Omg so I already bought tear based on your previous rec, but you describing it now, I'm literally pausing every other book I'm reading to pick it up. I relate so much to that storyline, Im so intrigued
Me side-eyeing my LFL deer and the dragon LOL honestly the cover is stunning so even if it sucks, at least we have that 🤣🤣

1000% agree with you re: Earthlings. I hear over and over again how weird that book is, and I'm like...really? Yeah, it's disturbing for sadly mundane reasons ("mundane," as in these terrible things happen all too frequently and it's horrific but also not surprising) but...the weirdest thing ever? I don't know about all that. Not at all similar, but I can kinda gauge someone's tolerance for weird and outré by one.) how weird they think Earthlings is, and two.) how shocked they were by certain scenes from Saltburn. I heard of so many people grossed out or shocked by the bathwater or the graveside scene in that film, and I know it sounds a trifle edgelordy of me to say so, but my first thought upon hearing of their disgust and horror was "bah! amateurs!"

I'm planning to read Together We Rot next month or in the fall, which for me August is already fall. Lol! The cover is definitely what drew me to the book as well. I'm happy to hear that it's good. We seem to have similar reading taste (and zodiac sign 😅), so it's safe to say I can trust your reading judgement. 🍄🍄

I'm a very character driven reader. I'm the same way with my characters, just like I am with people. LML! If I don't like a character, I won't like the book. I won't care about them enough to care about the rest of the book.
I loved Bunny. I read it this year and I want to reread it in the fall. I want to read it through a different lens and annotate it.

Ooo the shelves are looking fab back there 👀
I haven't been called to Chlorine but hearing it has one of my favorite tropes ("Is this gay???") I may need to read lol
There's no way I won't love Tear and Day of the Door with those parental relationships
Cuckoo does have big IT vibes, it was pretty cool but I wasn't obsessed
I definitely immediately bought This Wretched Valley because I thought I would love it lolll
Least liked character is such a good idea. For me this is every FMC that loses/gives up their powers at the end 😠

    The new shelves!! 😍
Sharing my high and low for the mid year:
Black Sheep by Rachel Harrison - 100% love!
Horror Movie by Paul Tremblay - Most disappointing by far. I've DNF'd for now and it's gonna take a lot for me to try again.
Thanks for mentioning Cicada Summer - adding to my TBR now. Tear was amazing!

The Wretched Valley was bullshit! I got so heated when they looked for their missing dog for a whole 2 hours and then were like "oh no, too bad. let's go climb this rock". ARE YOU SERIOUS. I stayed mad about that for the entire book. edit: realizing I'm STILL mad about it lol.

I actually liked This Wretched Valley, liked it being ambiguous and having no real explanation given. The characters were one dimensional, but I think they felt like real people. Their dumb decisions felt like real decisions people would make.

🍄🍄 I recently picked up Cuckoo at a Barnes and Noble, buy one get one 50% off sale. I look forward to getting to it soon.
My most disappointing books of the year so far are ones that a lot of people seem to love: Lost in the Garden, Horror Movie, Incidents Around the House, and, worst of all, Diavola. I haven't heard many good things at all about This Wretched Valley, which is too bad since it sounds interesting, but I definitely don't plan to pick it up.

    • @WickedScorpio

Thats awesome to find a new release as part of buy one get one deal. I'm hearing a lot of horror movie being a disappointment/worst book for a lot of people 😬 sad to hear lost in the garden is one for you too. I still need to get to that one.
