have you read M.L. Wang's books? Sword of Kaigen and Blood Over Bright Haven. I have finished both recently and I really enjoyed them. Hope you will be adding them in your TBR soon - if you are not yet done with them.

Have you gone to this rally before? "The Man Who Knew the Way to the Moon" is a 3.5 hour audio book. It's a nonfiction that I found interesting if you're into space stuff. "Up from Slavery" by Booker T Washington is a 6hr long nonfiction. I found learning more about his life fascinating. I just started Lord of the Rings, so that will take me into August. And then I have 3 Ray Bradbury books lined up; The October Country, The Illustrated Man, and Dandelion Wine. We'll see how far that takes me through August.

You like Sci-Fi, you like classics, you want something short? Go for Rendezvous with Rama from Arthur C Clarke. ~200 pages, from the early 70's. Going to be turned into a movie by Dennis Villeneuve in next few years as well, so something extra to look forward to. About the discovery of an alien planet-lookalike sorta spaceship and a team of humans going on a complete discovery of it. Absolutely brilliant. Enjoy your trip :-)

That's going to be a fun ride, enjoy! The Book of Elsewhere is very heavily influenced by Keanu's comics, it's not China's best but far from his worst. The writing style's his, and there's some content that's absolutely him, but for the most part it's Keanu's world. I still think the best place to find out why so many people like China is The City & The City. At least you'll see what his style's like to some extent.

No pressure but you are currently going to be the decision maker to me listening to the book of elsewhere or reading it at all-enjoy the trip man! That sounds dope

Great answers! With you getting a bit bogged down with heavier reads like Memories of Ice, I really need to convince you somehow into picking up Darien by Conn Iggulden. That trilogy is the polar opposite in terms of how easy it is to access the story, and we share so much in our sff taste that I’m fully confident the Empire of Salt trilogy will be a hit with you.

I just knew that you were going to say water lol. Don't get me wrong, that's easily the main thing I drink all day as well, but a favorite? Love the passion for the answers! Solid books all around.

My favorite book is Death's End as well. So many people seem to prefer The Dark Forest the most. but for me that was the weakest of the three books, but I also didnt really like the style of how the translated was translating it too. The first book was a great introduction, the third book was just so many ideas just shot out there and I found that so fun. The second book was a great book but to me it only really focused on one thing, the Wallfacers, deterrance and the idea of the universe being a dark forest. very good book, but just was my least favorite of the three.

For the VIP one I’d have to say the three body problem series by cixin liu, now that the series is more popular than ever due to the Netflix adaptation I feel like I got into a secret club early. Also deaths end is one of my favorite books of all time too!

Great answers! You're right, brown is a hard color to make pop but something about that design just works. Ian Fleming would be fun to talk to, I'd want to know about his time in the service during WW2. Hangover is a good way to describe what Cixin Liu does to you with that series 😂 my brain was deep fried by the end of it.

Man I got stuck halfway in this book. I got slumped and eventually considered this a DNF. I am a huge Sanderson fan that's why it was a bummer that I didn't enjoy this one. This review might help me consider picking it up again.

Sorry to hear that it's been so rough the past few weeks/months! I can definitely relate to the frustrating streak of aggressively fine books, that is just so demotivating 🙃 I also think we need to normalize 'not reading' more, it's so easy to make reading your entire personality when you enter the online bookish community. Glad you have found some good entertainment in other areas, and I hope your reading mojo will only increase again from here on out. Cheers :)

After I finished The First Law trilogy I read Jurassic Park, Piranesi, and Recursion and that really kept me motivated since they were quick.

Had no idea people didn’t like Wayne. He’s literally the best character

People will come at me with pitchforks.. but I had a slump for an extensive period of time (think years), and what pulled me out was... The Fourth Wing 😬 Ok, hear me out, I had never done fantasy before, The Fourth Wing was an easy read, fast-paced and it has dragons.. can you blame me.. yes the writing was tacky, and it had all the cliches, but for someone who never read fantasy (barring Harry Potter) it really pulled me out and now I read 3 books a week..

Switching genres helps a lot. I try to change the genre I'm reading every week.

I like Backman's longer books better than his shorter ones but as I've said before, his longer ones are some of my absolutely favorite reads. You had some good suggestions for getting out of your slump. For me, rereading a favorite book is especially helpful. Good luck, I'm sure you will be back to reading a lot at least by summer's end.

Malazan is the bane of booktubers who have a goal to finish as many books as possible. If you're looking for quantity, read other easier/shorter books. If you're looking for quality, read Malazan.

I can really relate to this, I go through spurts where I read like 100-300 pages a day, vs days where I don’t even want to pick them up

Memories of ice with its density and emotional hits definitely could force one into a slog. I needed months off Malazan after memories just to regather all my senses lol If you want a change up, Imperium by Robert Harris (recommended by Library of Allenxandria) is 305 pages and a total pace shift. It’s helped me kinda pull myself from a mini slump. And so far, halfway through it is absolutely compelling. Also-odd question but are you a fan of Star Wars Old Republic Era?
