Loved this! I’m right with you on the Tiamat’s Wrath = perfection train and the LotR is a bore fest train. I’m glad so many people still love it, but it’s just not for me. I often feel lonely on my little LotR outcast island over here so it’s great to have someone to join me

Might help if you listen to the audiobooks by Phil Dragash. They have sound effects and background music from the movies. It's excellently narrated.

My experience with the Lord of the rings is listening to the audiobook narrated by Andy Serkis and it is phenomenal! With all the different characters/new words I could see how reading that would be kind of boring. Serkis does a great job making every single bit of dialogue, battle, and song fully engaging!

You and I share similar feelings about Gates of Fire and Stormlight! Since Daniel Abraham was one of the Expanse authors, I do not doubt your love of the series conclusion. Abraham did an incredible job concluding The Long Price Quartet!

Im always curious when two authors work together how the work gets split. Like does each other have certain characters or plot details they want to work on? I may have to find an interview im sure they have been asked.

@@TomOrange it's probably different for different authors, but I know Janny Wurts talked about how she did this with Raymond E. Feist. I'm sure that information is available somewhere.

Damn. Making me want to read Expanse with that rant about Tiamat! I’ve heard that book is amazing, but I’m so intimidated by the length of that series! Might have to get over that soon and dive in.

Death's End was amazing but I preferred The Dark Forest. I can see why people have problems with DF though, first quarter or so of the book is a bit weaker. What an incredible series though. I haven't watched the show yet and don't think I want to.
Top ranked books on GR that I gave 5 stars are Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption (novella but still), The Sword of Kaigen, Memories of Ice, Midnight Tides, The Dark Forest, and East of Eden.

Well, that was fun! The Expanse in on my TBR, currently sitting at the 161st book, but it's still on the long list (short list is sitting at 141 books, so this is 20 books into the long list which is sitting at exactly 300 right now) and could get bumped up if there's a sale or some other reason to bump it up.
I literally just added this all up to see when I would get to The Expanse. I swear this used to be at 200 books total. This is like 10 years worth of reading.
Short list = books I've bought
Long list = books on my wishlist
And I just realized this is only audio books and doesn't include ebooks...
Too many good options out there! I just started reading again in 2019, so this is clearly all my fault for not reading for 20 years before that and playing catchup.

    • @TomOrange
      @TomOrange  2 месяца назад +1

That is a pretty long list! I have no idea how many books are on mine. Im not nearly as organized about it as you.

@@TomOrange Luckily it's all digital. So adding up 20 entries per page and X number of pages is pretty quick work.
For the longest time I thought I was hovering around 200 books, but I subscribed to several more BookTubers last December and this is the result!

Okay, I'm unsubbing from you if you hate LOTR. No just kidding. I love it but I read it very early in my reading journey and it helped form my reading habits from then on. But I can perfectly well understand how some might find it boring compared to today's modern writing. I'll have to get to the Expanse some day but am reading Sun Eater series now and so it will be awhile.
