i love the weakerthans, and this song is my favorite of theirs. " i cant stop finding your face in their faces all rearranged." one of the best lyrics ever.
I see a lot of people on here didn't like the video in the comments, the song is about a Winnipeg transit bus driver, and the video is filmed on a city of Winnipeg bus. I think the video is awesome, and fitting way for the 1985 #136 New Flyer to be rememebered. I'm sure I've been on that bus! The only problem with the video is at Minute 2:42 where you see him come out the backdoor to head back to the front of the bus. Other then that It's an amazing song and video! Kinda makes me miss Winnipeg!
One of my best friends one day looked at me, paused for a second, and said: "You know, Ben, you think too much". Nailed it. Not that I could stop. It's just the way we are.
My favorite line from this song is "Hey, every other hour I pass that house where you [broke up with me]." And then the rest of the song he's wondering why he thinks about this girl while driving this route! It's so funny how he can't even make that simple connection. Let alone that Civil Twilight is both the time between close of business and sunset, but also a summation of their civil relationship reaching its end.
They filmed this video at the Winnipeg Transit Garage (421 Osborne). I actually got to wonder around the set before they started filming. I probably drove that bus at some point!
I can't believe that this doesn't have million views. I've bought every album over the years and just discovered they have a couple music videos! Manitoba proud.
This band brings chills to my spine with the way they encapsulate what it is to be a Canadian. I sometimes get choked up just trying to sing along. Lyrical genius inside of simplicity. I have a guitar..... can I be in your band?
To this guy, "Jennifer Jason Leigh" is to Hollywood actors as "Ontario" is to provinces, which is one of the ways you can tell that he's incredibly cool. I know she's probably one of the only ones that fills out the metre on the line, but
while they were in Toronto they did an acoustic version at a radio station...so if you live around toronto this is probably why you heard it, and cant find it anywhere else.
Everything from, "Hey every other hour, to now I know I had plenty of time" that was really me once...I'm an idiot. thanks Weakerthans for reminding me...this really is a nice song.
Top 3 favorite bands. I'm from south of Winnipeg (between steinbach & nivervile), but live in BC now. This always makes me think of home. Hudderites, Mennonites, Amish are all very different and there are many different versions of each of those. Southern Manitoba has 'modern mennonites' Go to southern Ontario (near Wingham) and they are 'oldschool mennonites.' and yes... mennonites also came from Eastern Europe, specifically Russia & Ukraine.
As an amateur astronomer, the song title interested me - officially, civil twilight is the period after sunset when the sun is between 0 and 6 degrees below the horizon (followed by nautical twilight 6-12 degrees, astronomical twilight 12-18 degrees, and finally full darkness). Great tune from an obviously well-read song writer
theres snow about once a week in toronto during the winter (if you want I can dig up the number), and there was more accumulation of snow on the ground than the height of our (somewhat short) mayor when (a couple dozen) armed forces troops were called in to help.
i'm pennsylvania-dutch.....mennonites came from Switzerland...i man named Mennon(french-swiss) started it.....they beleive in electricity...the amish came from germany and still speak a high german dialect, they DON'T believe in electricity or our modern world, but their kids at age 18 i beleive get to live in the modern world and see if it's for them, alot go back to there farms cuz they can't adapt plus they miss and love their families.... i hope that helped..... Hudderites come from Russia??
i don't know what errors you're talking about, i only noticed one, and i don't feel like finding the others. anyways, the one i saw was his arm going down the stairs after the part with his girl..and i don't think that was intentional.
Yeah, I had a good laugh at that it was pretty funny watching it on the news. Johnny Ontario: "How do you use this shovel-looking thing Martha?" Oh, you guys crack me up.
who directed this video? it looks a hell of a lot like guy madden but his imdb page makes no mention of it. if anybody knows, could you please respond. even hazard a guess. much thanks, people. this is wpg culture at its finest
ya but it's still been 40 years since the leafs have won a cup and by the looks of it, it's going to be 40 more, PS if you had a tractor you wouldnt change the oil?
I'm not talking about Rush over The Doors, or even The Tragically Hip over Nirvana (which is, I think, debatable)... I'm talking about The Weakerthans/Arcade Fire/Tegan and Sara/etc.. over shit like Daughtry/Hinder/Aly & Aj (err.. I don't think that comparison is fair to T&S)
See, that's one thing I cannot understand. A person comes to a video and then says something negative about it. It's like..sheesh. Why make everyone else as miserable as you obviously are.
Not my style of music, though it wasnt to bad... not something i would listen to, but due to the hatters who rate poorly just because they like something else, enjoy my 5/5 rating!
this is a very disappointing video - I think it's their first one I have not really been crazy about, and that includes Diagnosis. The one shot thing is cool when it is done well, but they just don't do anything with it here really. Oh well, at least the music is absolutely exceptional.
ADDITIONALLY... I am aware that there are obviously some dope American bands (Spoon, Silversun Pickups, The Shins, Death Cab..) and comparatively some shit Canadian ones (see Nickelback) All I am saying is, focusing on "indie rock", Canada is superior.
i love the weakerthans, and this song is my favorite of theirs. " i cant stop finding your face in their faces all rearranged." one of the best lyrics ever.
I'm a transit bus driver and this is the most absurdly relatable song.
I want to drive a bus now
I see a lot of people on here didn't like the video in the comments, the song is about a Winnipeg transit bus driver, and the video is filmed on a city of Winnipeg bus. I think this is among their best. I love the way JKS so perfectly describes what goes on in the mind of an overthinker while the world passes by.
One of my best friends one day looked at me, paused for a second, and said: "You know, Ben, you think too much". Nailed it. Not that I could stop. It's just the way we are.

Terrific peice. A friend showed me this song yesterday. Stoked on The Weakerthans.
The the beat and rhythm actually makes me 'see' the song move. Great song.
Great song and lyrically one of the best I have ever heard.
I haven’t skipped this song when it comes on shuffle in over a decade.
I saw this band this summer at an outdoor show, right after the sun had gone down. It was awesome.
I absolutely adore the Weakerthans! I have every single one of their albums!
Weakerthans FTW Winnipeg proud.
Great song by a group that is consistently fun to listen to.
and i am going to see them in Nelson BC tomorrow. very much looking forward to the small, intimate venue. (300 capacity)
how was the show?
This band brings chills to my spine with the way they encapsulate what it is to be a Canadian. I sometimes get choked up just trying to sing along. Lyrical genius inside of simplicity. I have a guitar..... can I be in your band?
I feel the same way and I'm an Australian , a great band with great lyrics who I would live to see live.
I think they encapsulate what it is to be human. Be a man, show emotion & cry during sad songs. I applaud that, as most women would.
Great comment brotha.
@@blankgen8003 And I kick my own ass for NOT going to see them the two different chances I had...
To this guy, "Jennifer Jason Leigh" is to Hollywood actors as "Ontario" is to provinces, which is one of the ways you can tell that he's incredibly cool. I know she's probably one of the only ones that fills out the metre on the line, but
I think we can all relate to some of these lyrics "my chance to say something seemed so brief but I wasn't "
while they were in Toronto they did an acoustic version at a radio station...so if you live around toronto this is probably why you heard it, and cant find it anywhere else.
Everything from, "Hey every other hour, to now I know I had plenty of time" that was really me once...I'm an idiot. thanks Weakerthans for reminding me...this really is a nice song.
One of the awesome bands this city has turned out.
Just saw them in Calgary at the Folk Fest, it was awesome!
Did anyone see the girl gets hit in the face by a bass at 1:18? Great song.
Excelente el valor intrínseco que le adjudicaron
That was a sick show...Probably the best one they've done that I've seen so far.
Best band to come out of Canada period!
Propagandhi is better
Top 3 favorite bands. I'm from south of Winnipeg (between steinbach & nivervile), but live in BC now. This always makes me think of home.

The line about golfing and jennifer jason leigh always comes into my head even when i havent been thinking about anything
Same here! Like I'll just be doing some random shit and all of the sudden itll just pop in there. Weird.
WOW! This video was great...but that is to be expected. Not the best from them, but still pretty much amazing! Thanks guys.

Love this song!!
Let's pray for the 23 poor lives that disliked this video.
yeeeeeh seen them twice, the second time, they dedicated a song to a guy who came all the way from scottland to seem em! :)
theres snow about once a week in toronto during the winter (if you want I can dig up the number), and there was more accumulation of snow on the ground than the height of our (somewhat short) mayor when (a couple dozen) armed forces troops were called in to help.
wtf this deserves more views
love this band.
Mann, I love this band,
Cool, I actually drive this bus for real!
saw the most recent herein t.o. kicked ass! =D
I think the 'errors' you guys are pointing out are just part of the video and may be intentional.
woah how'd he get back to the front? lol. probably one of canada's finest indie bands.
I live in Winnipeg.
Winnipeg probably has more snow than the majority of major cities.
o.o;;
This is really good
i'm pennsylvania-dutch.....mennonites came from Switzerland...i man named Mennon(french-swiss) started it.....they beleive in electricity...the amish came from germany and still speak a high german dialect, they DON'T believe in electricity or our modern world, but their kids at age 18 i beleive get to live in the modern world and see if it's for them, alot go back to there farms cuz they can't adapt plus they miss and love their families.... i hope that helped..... cool....any one go to that show at the burton just b4 christmas twas sweet
i don't know what errors you're talking about, i only noticed one, and i don't feel like finding the others.
anyways, the one i saw was his arm going down the stairs after the part with his girl..and i don't think that was intentional.
hah i saw these guys live
they oppened for feist it was amazingg
they were awesome at the winnipeg folk fest
WAIT!!!! who's driving the bus after 1:55 ?!
sooo good at toronto show,
thx, i'll look into that. I know Manitoba has a large hudderite community.
But in Manitoba we don't call in the National Gaurd when we get a few snow drifts in our cities.
Song - 5 Stars
Video - 2 Stars
. . . I love Propagandhi, but how can you bring that up here?
I love the weakerthans! Woo for canadians!
He told me he would tell the story in any color
Near sighted he drives at night, only 12' feet.
Yeah, I had a good laugh at that it was pretty funny watching it on the news.
Johnny Ontario: "How do you use this shovel-looking thing Martha?"
Oh, you guys crack me up.
Why did I JUST discover this band?
who directed this video? it looks a hell of a lot like guy madden but his imdb page makes no mention of it. if anybody knows, could you please respond. even hazard a guess. much thanks, people. this is wpg culture at its finest
I think this was directed by Matt Holm if I remember correctly. Its wasn't guy maddin.
I directed it.
Fun video. I like it, but the jury is still out for me until I hear more of the album.
since ALWAYS
If there’s a song better than Paperback Writer, this would be it
You mean the one sitting on the bus you can see at 2:38? No, you are not crazy...we do have penguins in Winnipeg :-)
hahahhahha, i've never seen a videoclip of them:)! so cute *g*:)!
this song turns me to mush
Weakerthans cancelled, and no one knew until later. I'm glad I was just outside and didn't pay to see the show.
their concert was great! the first day of the fest this year was awesome, but the third day sucked
My boyfriend and I are going to dance to this song at our wedding
instead of staaaariing baaaaaack

Love this song too! And I like weird videos
ya but it's still been 40 years since the leafs have won a cup and by the looks of it, it's going to be 40 more, PS if you had a tractor you wouldnt change the oil?
🤘💜
I love winnipeg and the prairies
Noone I know knows about these amazing musicians.
What a waste..
High Five!!!
billy talent...
that is all.
See, that's one thing I cannot understand.
A person comes to a video and then says something negative about it. It's like..sheesh. Why make everyone else as miserable as you obviously are.
The drummer always looks eternally pissed off... even back in the day.
like a death cab for cutie meets the decemberists sound
GO WINNIPEG
The saddest busier ever.
tried to get into it.
really did.
can't.
canada's death cab for cutie
great band
did anyone else see the penguin at the end when it pans to the front?
15 people had their mice stolen only to find a few days later they had been used to click thumbs down
dude winnipeg has a fuck load of snow
Not my style of music, though it wasnt to bad... not something i would listen to, but due to the hatters who rate poorly just because they like something else, enjoy my 5/5 rating!
so canadian...xoxo
This is too realistic.
yeah, that one time a decade ago? and canada doesn't have "national gaurd". Learn your millitary terms.
i love their sound!
and to previous posters, stop starting shit, ALL of Canada gets snow. Get over it.
oh.. ic
@like2iceskate123 me to! i was also looking for more music from the band civil twilight! these guys are nothing compared to them..
wait wait...ur definately gonna have to explain the difference between mennonite and amish...
this is a very disappointing video - I think it's their first one I have not really been crazy about, and that includes Diagnosis. The one shot thing is cool when it is done well, but they just don't do anything with it here really. Oh well, at least the music is absolutely exceptional.
