    Just want to say, when I get comments on my channel, I usually only heart comments I think are insightful or kind or funny or interest me in some way, I don't use it willy-nilly as many small channels like mine often do, but I've gotten 63 comments as of writing and I think all of them have been all of the above. I just wanna thank everyone for genuinely having something to say about my work, particularly the criticism, as it helps me immensely when planning future animations. I cant tell you how nice it is to have people engage with a creation of yours, seriously, you lot are really great. Thanks so much

    I think the part that gets me the most about this is the genuinely *dangerous* look in Gordon's eyes. Dude looks like he'd shoot you for looking at him funny... which he absolutely does, multiple times, throughout the series. It makes it all so much funnier when he looks like he's giving the entire world a death glare for daring to keep getting in his way.

      the cool thing about that, Ross's Freeman doesn't start out that way. Slowly by the end of the first series, he develops a psychopathic personality, shooting first, and at one point, singing in the middle of a firefight.

  • @SgtP4in
    @SgtP4in 2 года назад +128

    I adore the addition of the ALICE harness, and the slung weapons. It's a very nice addition, because it fits perfectly with the more down to earth attitude of Freeman's mind: of course Gordon would have his weapons slung, and of course he'd grab a load bearing harness off a dead soldier, the HEV suit doesn't have much in the way of pockets, not nearly enough to accommodate the amount of Ordinance he carries around. I also appreciate animating the reloads, and scavenging the ammo.
    The addition of the little Full Metal Jacket reference was inspired, shit like that adds little things that make the animation more than just Freeman's mind from a 3rd person perspective, I could watch an entire series of Freeman'a mind redone with little additions like that to just add to the scenes.
    The look in the eyes is also spectacular. They say the eyes are window into the soul, and you managed to capture the Gordon look.

    I don't exactly know why, but I kinda love the first 15 seconds of Freeman talking compared to when he talks later. It perfectly captures the look of a genuinely *dangerous* person, and just the way his mouth is exaggerated when he's talking about the turret is amazing.

    I was not expecting the FMJ reference, that was a masterful recreation. Putting that aside, the only areas that still need work are the mouth movements still resembling puppet jowls at times and some of the movement being too fast, like the support beam collapsing and resembling a rubber hose when it hits the ground, though these flaws can be seen as contributing to a comic charm if that's what you're going for, either way I still enjoyed the animation. You continue to maintain a baseline level of quality in terms of attention given to facial movement, camerawork, and action scenes that I rarely see in animation, much less fan works for a machinima. Keep it up!

    • @codaboi138
      @codaboi138  2 года назад +14

      Thanks you so much for the feed back, it's very helpful c: about the beam, it was a last minute inclusion, just to give some punch to the destruction Freeman caused. The idea was to make it look like the weight and angle of the beam falling caused it to buckle and wobble. I suppose, for a support beam, it shouldn't do that in the way I animated it, so I'll take note. And yes, facial animations need to be toned back for sure. I'm pretty pumped to find the next clip to animate so I can get these things right. These comments have helped a ton and given me some ideas, so thanks for giving me pointers and thank you very much for the compliments:D

    Beautiful. Another Freeman’s Mind Animation is just as good as a new Freeman’s Mind episode. Only criticism I can give is the mouth movements at the later half of the episode were superior to the ones in the first half. • @codaboi138
      @codaboi138  2 года назад +42

      To be honest, I do see that now. At the start I was drawing inspiration from animated films like Megamind, with exaggerated facial and limb movements, but by the end I was doing more realistic movements. I can see It didn't fit the tone of the video as a whole, so I'm taking notes for the next one :D thank you dearly for the feedback!

    'Went back to this video as I needed a pick-me-up and I still can't go over how well animated this is. I especially love the movie references you've implemented which makes this animated short ever so funnier! Good work, really good work!

      Thank you so much! I always appreciate you comments man. I've taken a break from animation, but I still have a big project that's mostly completed, so hopefully I can release it one of these days. Hope your doing well with your own work too!

      @@codaboi138 No worries! And good to see you still around commenting! I've also taken a break from animating in SFM (to be honest I feel guilty for doing that sometimes...don't know why...), but in the meantime I'm learning Blender. I've got a few semi-animation projects uploaded on my channel and they've turned out really well! And I've got a 3d model project (which is nearly finished) which is turning out really well, and I'm considering in using that project into a slightly bigger animation project! 'Very looking forward to getting those done soon!

      @@m.sharif_3d @Doctorus Prime same here, it's why i haven't posted any more progress updates or wip's, cuz I feel the urge to just hide haha. Sadly can't force ot either, when it's done, it's done I suppose. That's awesome! 3d modeling is a great skill to pick up! Hope it all goes well for you.

      @@codaboi138 It is going well, actually! The 3d model, im working on is nearly done, I just need to make a turntable animation of it. After that, Ive a small animation project for that 3d model. Hint: They're giant pepperpots of hatred! 🤣

    God I love that I just stumbled upon this! This part and your previous Freeman's Mind part with the tank and the sniper are so well animated and the visual comedy lands so fucking well that I actually laughed out loud at points which, when I'm on my own, I rarely do!
    For the animation itself, some of the facial expressions in both videos land so well, like when Gordon is talking at the end or generally the small touches in his eye movements and eyebrows as they kind of accentuate his words. The animation itself, while at times feels a bit stiff or weightless, is so good, especially in the final fight in the last part where he just bursts open the door with a shotgun in his hand and that serial killer look on his face. Keep up the amazing work! You're definitely improving and are 100% onto something here!

    I'm so sorry for tuning in late to this! YT didn't remind me, my notif settings are broken! Anyway, the animation is superb! I love how you animated the mouth moving slightly to the sides, to emphasise Freeman's rambling. I also love the Transformers reference you've made and the Full Metal Jacket reference too. Really superb animation!

    I keep coming back to this and I adore the details in how everyone handles their weapons, the recoil Freeman feels everytime he fires, the way that one soldier had to hold his M60 because it's that heavy, but my personal favorite gotta be Freeman releasing the bolt on the MP5 as he comes across the HECU
