Wait I'm not the only one who obsessively watches Ross's videos over and over again? Have you guys noticed that some of Ross's Game Dungeon videos are so good you watch them 10 times, and some others are so bad you never even watch through them once?
Wow, this far exceeds what I was expecting. I'll be going through HL this year without fail. Thanks so much to everyone who contributed, it's seriously going to turn my life around.
OckhamAsylum I was 10 when I started watching these videos now I am13. I don't know if this is correct because I don't remember when I started watching these videos.
I was in 6th grade when I started watching these, now I'm in 11th. I really hope he finishes before i graduate in 12th grade.. its a show I've been watching since it came out, and I think it would be amazing if it were finished before I graduated. I basically grew up with it. It's amazing to think about how long this series has been going on for.
Virtual Riot In three years, nobody mentioned that the dude who created the amazing mashup "Idols" donated to AccursedFarms, as well as WATCHES FREEMAN'S MIND! So awesome.
If anyone's interested in technical details on why is the motion blur in Source engine "selective", here's an explanation. The type of motion blur effect in Source is called "camera motion blur" - it's because it's only based on the camera (player eyes) movement in relation to the game world. It's done by calculating the movement vector and applying motion blur to the entire rendered frame at once, by calculating how the view is translating and rotating. This is relatively simple and can easily be added to a rendering pipeline that was not designed to do anything more fancy regarding motion blur. The effect Ross wants is called per-object motion blur. That's quite more involved - it requires the game engine to render a motion vector pass for every frame (each pixel's R, G and B values store the rendered object's movement vector in X, Y and Z directions relative to the camera) and apply the motion blur in post-processing based on this data. Even that effect isn't perfect though, as the motion vector rendering pass is only able to store motion information for one object for each pixel of the rendered image. That means the effect will break with transparent objects or objects having different motion vectors occluding each other.. If something moves fast behind a transparent window - motion blur will not apply to it. And otherwise - if a barely visible semi-transparent bubble passes you by quickly, it's motion vectors will be applied to blur everything that was visible through it as well - so the stationary background will be blurred as if it was moving fast, while it's just the bubble. A fully brute-force solution of rendering the game footage in super slow motion and then blending the frames together is very resource intensive, but gives the best possible visual quality as the effect isn't achieved with any trickery - it's done in a very similar way as it works in real life. The only difference is life is continuous and video is discrete. but with enough discrete input samples (input video frames) blended for each output video frame the effect is nearly indistinguishable from a continuous real-world motion blur that a camera would capture. We can also think of this as if the entire world is blinking X times per second. If you're in a room with artificial lighting, chances are the world is blinking 60 or 50 times every second, so that computer approximation isn't even that much different form it. Of course it's just because the frame exposure isn't uniform in time within each frame, and not that we're sampling the entire scene at regular intervals... I think some games can render multiple motion samples per frame and blend them to achieve a "global motion blur" effect, but you'd need to be able to render hundreds of frames per second to be able to do this in real-time and have any decent quality motion blur. Games usually run at 60 frames per second and 240 frames per second is only giving us 4 motion samples. Which for anything faster than super slow camera fly-by looks extremely bad. With a fast-moving object it'd look like the same object was rendered 4 times offset, with clear spaces visible between each copy. Because that's exactly what it'd be. We need at least 8 or 16 motion samples to have any hope of a visually smooth effect. In film motion blur is related to exposure time. Usually each frame is being exposed 50 of the time it takes to capture the next frame. This means if an object on the screen moves by 100 pixels, the motion blur stream should be only 50 pixels long. That means we need 50 motion samples to achieve a perfectly smooth motion blur effect That means 50 * 60 frames every second. With modern screen resolutions being typically 1920x1080 pixels, you can see how that approach would require absolutely insane amounts of processing power to produce perfect quality results. Of course we could limit the length of motion blur streaks to make them never extend beyond a given limit (say 16 pixels). That's not going to give us convincing results though. We can't be rendering tens of thousands of frames every second only to average them all out and show a smooth motion blur streak. Completely unfeasible. Cheating with motion vector passes and applying the motion blur in postprocessing seems like the only practical way and a great compromise between visual quality and performance impact. There's still a lot in there, about how the post-processing motion blur is smooth and not "steppy" with visible spaces between copies of the visible objects. I'm not knowlegable enough to say anything useful on that matter though. Possibly the best ever trick would require the game engine to render every object to a separate layer buffer including it's motion vector pass, apply the motion blur postprocessing effect and then composite all the objects together - this would work around the problem of transparent objects occluding non-transparent ones, and objects occluding other objects in general (at edges where a moving object occludes a stationary object there could be some artifacting from the post-processing motion blur effect). This would still require a lot of processing power, but would certainly be more feasibly than just rendering a 1000 motion samples of the entire scene and averaging them out. Especially since gaming enthusiasts often run their games at 120 or 240 frames per second. Ross's solution is a hybrid approach - he's rendering the game footage at 180 FPS, while delivering 30 FPS video (that gives 6 motion samples per frame) - the AviSynth script that Ross has shown takes that and estimates motion vectors for each part of the frame, and applies variable motion-blur effect that fills in the gaps and provides perfectly smooth motion blur streaks. The motion estimation is called Optical Flow, and is often used to generate slow-motion footage from regular footage. Modern television sets use this tech to make movies shot at 24 frames per second play at 60 frames per second, but the effect is very limited since it has to run in real-time so complex motions are often omitted, giving you a film that's kinda smooth, but also jittery at times, producing worst effect ever. If it was stable 24 FPS, then you'd get used to it and just enjoy the film, but this pointless attempt at an "improvement" is only making it worse. It's great for doing smooth motion blur though! Anyway - I'm back to binge-watching the entire series once again waiting for the next episode of Freeman's Mind 2.
Accursed Farms Ross, As a fan; I'm going to make a recommendation. Make Daily Videos. Make a Facebook/Twitter. Make a Twitch Stream. WAIT ROSS. JUST HEAR ME OUT. *Sighs* Okay, so the Daily Videos: More Fans will be active, because videos are daily, not bi-weekly/monthly You'll grow faster. You'll get to entertain a minimum of 50,000 a day. Facebook: Helps you grow on Social Media, Announce Videos. Twitter: Interact closer with fans and other RUclipsrs. I.E. DasBoSchitt Twitch: You can make money from this, and maybe play some Half Life (SVEN) or Half Life 2 (Synergy) with fans, or play some other games you like with fans. ------ Consider this Ross, I guarentee whatever you do now for money; this'll be better and you'll enjoy it. A lot. ------ Should also keep donations open, and start a T-Shirt Store if you haven't already. And YOUR WEBSITE, is a POWERFUL Tool. Enjoy a new life Ross.
GhostZ How do you want to keep making _daily_ videos of the same quality as biweekly videos? Except let's plays or some low-work things, it's impossible.
+Xeotroid Yes. It takes a certain number of man-hours for a good quality ten minute video. Much more for things like Freeman's Mind. The only way to get weekly or a few times a week is to make a small group of people that do all the work, rather than one person. Then 8 hours per day becomes 16 man-hours, and the same for any number if you double it.
+GhostZ I hope you understand that different types of content producers produce different types of content that appeal to different portions of the market. You really seem to be at the point where someone knows just enough to humiliate themselves by thinking they know more than they do. Hopefully you've gotten better since.
Guys, 480p is fine. I even watch these videos in 360p just so they load faster and I can hear Ross' beautiful voice no homo. I'm donating cause Ross has provided years of entertainment, thanks a bunch for all the hard work man.
I feel like part of what makes Freeman's Mind so funny is that Ross makes fun of HALF-LIFE at times, but with Black Mesa..... well, it's too good and serious in nature to poke fun at...
Dude, you really know how to entertain! Not only that, but you explained what could've been a very complicated problem, with simple and effective visuals! Well done!
The resolution has never really bothered me. I'd wonder about HD if you were doing a modern game, but like you you said, it's from 1998. I expect it to look this way. Still, I'm glad you got the money you need and it looks like you have some extra bean money, too! Kudos on being real about what happens if you get the extra cash.
I just know that I am not the first person to say comment this....but your commentaries about virtually anything are witty and funny while still getting the point across. I often just watch some of your other videos despite not necessarily having interest in the subject within it just to see your analysis of it. I also had no idea how complex recording and broadcasting game-play could be, especially for such an old game, and that is without however much time you spend writing a script and narrating. Keep doing what you are doing Mr. Scott. Your videos make my day, and I am sure they make many other people happy as well. I hope you receive enough money to buy the finest beans available.
That's exactly how I feel about Ross' videos. I've hardly played more than half a dozen console games in my life, have finished none of them, and yet I really enjoy everything Ross puts out. His humor is clever enough to cross interest borders.
Man i can't believe I've been watching freeman's mind since i was middle school! I'm a sophomore in college now and i still get excited every time i see another freeman's mind episode is released! Thank for the entertainment Ross!!
I don't even care about the resolution, i donated anyway! been watching this series since episode 4 got released a couple of years ago and got instantly hooked to your humor... In my heart you deserve 100x that money anyway. Keep being awesome Ross!
I don't care us you leave it at 480. I watch this series because of the hilarity and quality you put into it, thanks for this great series, keep up the great work.
I love the fact that you took the time to actually explain all of this, I had no idea the source engine had all these limitations. Honestly, I don't really mind, but I wouldn't bitch about it if the videos did come in 720p :)
the motion blur is some of the magic, making it look as it does, without it, freemans mind would not be quite the same anymore. however i will also keep watching regardless of resolution, but it would be nice if it was 720p, but then to get my compiled version complete, i would have to download all in 480p (of course this is just so i have entertainment and a FULL MOVIE of freemans mind put together on my pc, and movie library, i will not upload it anywhere unless i have direct permission) its going to be simply, edited together segments of freemans mind, with a few black screens with text on them(such as, if he sleeps for the break of one episode to another, it will have a short screen saying 10 minutes later or something)
pesoen I agree wholeheartedly. I like the motion blur. I also like higher resolutions; 420p is fine, below that is a bit absurd. Above it is always nice but not necessary. This all being IMO.
Ross you have been entertaining me for so long that you have more than earned a donation from me. The fact that it will go toward higher resolution Freeman's Mind is just a bonus for me. It's only $30 but may it push you closer to even higher quality videos!
let's just hope that the quality of jokes and the commentary wont be decreased if he tryes to finish the series this year. i've been watching him since the beggining and i dont mind if it takes few more years cose ill be still watchin u and yet u deserve the money just for the sake that ur still stayin with us and makin those videos!
Waaaiiit, The Source Engine based of the sorce gold engine of 1.6 times, which based on a Modifyed version of QUAKE and THIS is what titanfall uses as its engine? Hilarious ;D
dude havok is a physics engine that source uses. source and goldsource are full game engines. source uses code from goldsource, havok and some middleware. goldsource uses quake code.
Much love to Ross and his endless ingenuity, but also much love for you fellow fans who donated. Not only did you pass the mark needed for 720p in a blast,at the rate you're going you'll make Ross finish the series this year!YAY FREEMAN FANS!:D
You're the best, Accursed! Your videos put a smile on people's faces, even when they trudge through boring workdays and prevent people from banging their heads against walls out of boredom, thereby saving thousands of dollars worth of cleaning services from splattered brains on walls around the world! You deserve every single penny. P.S Don't get too excited and choke on all the beans!
I could care less about making Freeman's Mind into a HD project. It's freaking Half Life. I watch for Ross' commentary on the inner thoughts of Freeman. But I REALLY enjoyed the insight into how it's made. Wow! You put a lot more work into it than I ever imagined.
PFCperkins I think his girlfriend is from Poland. I don't know if he met her before or after he moved there, but if he met her before then that might be the reason.
I'm so happy you were able to raise the necessary funds...and so quickly! Freeman's Mind has been my favorite RUclips series for years, and you always do a great job.
DISCLAIMER: I can't believe the fact that too many people need to complain. Ross explains in this video that you don't have to donate money, stop your complaining, and watch his shows, if you don't want to help then don't. The fact of the matter for this comment is there is some people saying that he's begging, okay he is, but you don't need to rant up a cussing storm because he wants money from you to make Freeman's Mind in HD. Das Bo Schitt had the same problem when he asked for a new PC from other peoples pockets. Ross and Das Bo Schitt wanted money so they can improve the quality of their videos, but what does that mean to you? Yes, you, you little brats saying to Ross and Das Bo Schitt to get their own money, but there's another option, don't help and do not cuss up storms directing to them, or help. Plain and simple. What does this mean to you? What does this mean to you? Does it mean to yell at Ross for an SSD with help from your pockets with your earned cash? No, you should help, or not. There's the other group yelling at the people who don't want to help, you guys are in the wrong too. Just shut up, and understand, or don't and fuck off, either way there's no need for a rant on either side supporting or against Ross.
HashSl1ng1ngSlasher Still rising son, and i got 800 bucks coming this weekend and 100 of that is going in that box, if i can get myself a debit card or something
Hey Ross, I just donated to your page yesterday. I just wanted to say, that your FM and RGD gave me a LOT more entertainment value than the amount I donated. I hope people realize that the $13 (USD) that people will happily pay for Thor 2 does not come CLOSE to the hours of Freeman's mind they get for free. I hope you hit all your goals and keep on making videos. Thanks for everything!
wow, Ross I think you kinda put in way more work than necessary sometimes, don't get me wrong I do like it, but all I really want is your commentary... don't hardly care at all whether its in 480p or 4k I personally would just like more content because I care more about that then it being ever so slightly pixelated or blurry (which happens anyway just because of youtube) at any rate, great videos and I hope to continue to see more.
"...don't hardly care at all whether its in 480p or 4k" Exactly, because, like he said, it's freaking Half Life. I am pretty sure we have all been through the game enough to know what's gonna happen, and the graphics themselves can't be improved (unless he starts playing Black Mesa) and I agree that I am also here just for his commentary. Whether the goal gets met or not, won't stop me from watching, or staying subbed.
Terribly sorry to say I'm not in a position to donate or send parts, however I'll still see what I can do to help support you Ross. I've been with Freeman's mind from the beginning, and am an avid half-life fan. I always enjoy the videos and hope that you'll continue to make them for a while.
i don't care about increasing the resolution but i do want to, and will, give you money for making this great show. doing that now. shine on you crazy diamond.
I never knew how much work went in to making this series. HOLY CHRIST you are a madman. A beautiful, wonderful madman. Maybe it's because I just got out of a Stanley Kubrick lore rabbit hole of wiki articles and many tabs, but it seems the best content is always made by going over the top with attention to detail. Keep up the great work Ross. May your bean-fueled comedy be supported for years to come.
I'm late to the party, but since "Freeman's Mind" has given me so much entertainment value, there's twenty more bucks coming your way. I'll expect to see pics of the robot attack dogs...
Please, never stop making these. I would pay a subscription just to see these come out every so often. (Also HL2 continuation would blow my mind). Anyways, thank you for all the work that you've done with these videoes, they are utter gold. Hope the donation helps.
Ross seriously keep the donating option! I'm still gonna be doing it no matter what, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who'd want that. Yeah I legit WANT to give you money.
I was one of the people who raised the concern over the issue that your encoding methods are slightly outdated by modern standards. Glad that you listen to your audience. I'll send my fair share to donation too. Personally, I think your motion blur comment was not properly justified, you made it sound "if I can't record with motion blur then that's it, a failed machinima". So instead leaving it off you went through a massive PC rape of capturing video in 180 fps and then processing it through Avisynth script. Let's just hope that SSD will really help you, and it's not just a theory. 180 FPS is surely no match for any HDD(without RAID config at least). Hopefully Valve will fix their motion blur so you could settle with average 30-60 fps :)
SSDs do really make a huge difference in reading and write times of data. The faster it sends other pieces of data the faster everything else can compute. The faster it writes data the less chokes or hang ups you have. Which also releases stress on other computer hardware. They are really amazing. I love mine even if it is small and my only available hard drive in this laptop... (230gb I think counting Windows7 install.) My desktop died on me not too long ago and I'm using it in my laptop currently. It use to take about a minute or two for windows to start with a 5700RPM hard-drive only takes about ten seconds now. Also, it gave me a FPS boost in a good percentage of the things I can play even if it's not much due to the clock speeds of my video card in this thing. Most people say they are unstable to keep an OS or fragile data on but some people don't wanna accept change or something. I've had nothing but good come from mine. Cheers!
I did not realize it took that much work to produce a single video. That is awesome that you give this much effort for our entertainment. Thank you sincerely for your efforts please continue the series to the best of you ability.
Good lord mate, I agree with you, that's way too much effort to put into a game that's over a decade old. Still, I've been watching Freeman's mind since the beginning and it never fails to make me smile. So go ahead and take my money. You and your neurotic alter-ego have earned it.
I honestly don't mind freemans minds quality. It's funny, amusing, and free and, from I can tell, isn't half assed scripted like colonial marines. It's a solid, written form of comedy that is presented with the help of visual aid. Yes, I'm still mad at that shit storm game of an "alien experience". Hopefully alien isolation will fix that. But enough about that. Hope you find the parts you need mate. :-)
I agree with this gentleman and scholar. I watch Freeman's Mind for the comedy, not for the high-end graphics. I mean, the game is oooooold, why would I expect 1080p video for such an old game?
Here, take it - JUST TAKE MY MONEY NOW - YOU REALLY DESERVE IT!! 1. You're awesome. 2. Love those episodes that it should BE IN 1080p! 3. If you could just make a little April fools episode this year, it would be cool! :D P.S: I really miss your civil protection shows - dammit, I wish you continued that project, but you moved on to better things... so long... Civil protection... :(
This is a massive piece of internet culture you've made - I keep getting asked if I've seen "Freeman's Mind," sometimes just randomly. Keep it up, and we can't wait for the next one!
I'm not too fussed about the resolution, but I really enjoy the show. Liked and donated. Thank you Ross for one of the funniest and most entertaining productions on RUclips.
Man, this guy even makes "help me" videos that I want to see twice.
even after 5 years, i will be your first comment.
4 days later haha
I see it once a month to satiate my Ross addiction, that and I donated to help the cause. The video is funny even If it's a help me video, shows u how good Ross is.

Wow, this far exceeds what I was expecting. I'll be going through HL this year without fail. Thanks so much to everyone who contributed, it's seriously going to turn my life around.
Just remember: You're being held at gunponit, so if you don't finish this year you're fucked......
WOW!! congrats man! 12000+ in 2 days!! that is awesome man! you deserve it!
Yeah... so ummm... since it "far exceeds your expectations" can you do more Ross's Game Dungeon when you're done with Freeman's Mind?
Just an idea...
just a question why do you live in Poland? just a question
" It just goes ZIBBIDYDOODYEAGH and it's done."
This is why Ross is my favorite.
$15,000 raised so far.
I mean honestly, shit, why stop now? he does make the best content we've ever experienced for nearly a decade
Jesus... it has been nearly a decade, hasn't it? I'm not even in my twenties yet and I feel old now.
OckhamAsylum I was 10 when I started watching these videos now I am13. I don't know if this is correct because I don't remember when I started watching these videos.
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? No way :D
chris keehn Chris, you are welcome to watch Machinimas videos, even i am now 15 but i started watch these videos since 2006. :)
I was in 6th grade when I started watching these, now I'm in 11th. I come back to watch this every once in a while because the pacing and editing is so good it's almost hypnotic.
same lol
I Know right?! Love to visit this one from time to time.
I just did a donation just because I like what you're doing.
Pretty sure it's impossible to dislike Ross' dry humor.
Virtual Riot In three years, nobody mentioned that the dude who created the amazing mashup "Idols" donated to AccursedFarms, as well as WATCHES FREEMAN'S MIND! So awesome.
Yeah, so amazing lol
holy moly its virtual riot
@@zAlphii id never though id see virtual riot here lol
I don't know how the hell you did it, but your BEGGING videos are so well put together I've actually come back to this video multiple times
The magic of Ross.
It's amazing what having a personality will do.
i never realised how much effort goes inot freeman's mind. this is humbling.

GhostZ How do you want to keep making _daily_ videos of the same quality as biweekly videos? Except let's plays or some low-work things, it's impossible.
+Xeotroid
Yes.
Only this guy could make a plea for a solid state drive so interesting.
Guys, 480p is fine. I even watch these videos in 360p just so they load faster and I can hear Ross' beautiful voice no homo. I'm donating cause Ross has provided years of entertainment, thanks a bunch for all the hard work man.
I watch all the YT Videos in 480p, cause otherwise my wifi pisses itself.
You know a creator's special when you keep going back to the help videos because they're that entertaining.
you could make your video's in 144p and i would still enjoy them because you make good content so resolution is just a bonus
Dude come on, 144p is unwatchable. That's below standard resolution.
Might as well just be listening then, the video quality wouldn't mesh well with his commentary.
gotta love ross's humor. even this video is freakin funny XD
i had to stop or re play this ,especially when he explained and ssd(even tho i already knew how gud they were)
I died when he said “the source engine” and the sound played
I feel like part of what makes Freeman's Mind so funny is that Ross makes fun of HALF-LIFE at times, but with Black Mesa..... well, it's too good and serious in nature to poke fun at...
Well, its created like halo anniversary or just frozen poking fun on a headcrab
i've rewatched this video way too many time. how does he manage to make this so extremely enjoyable?
Dude, you really know how to entertain! Not only that, but you explained what could've been a very complicated problem, with simple and effective visuals! Well done!
Now I understand why it takes so long to make Freeman's mind episodes.
Ross scout is the man. The time honors tradition of throwing computer hard ware at a soft ware problem he must be a software engineer.
The quality is fine why are people even complaining also its about your commentary not high res half life 1
Ten eighty fucking pee.
This is my third time watching this video. I just love listing to this guy talk.
same here
Damn this really made me understand how much effort and times go into these.
Thanks, I hope to get many, many more videos out with game dungeon especially, where I hope to touch on other topics in addition to the games.
I wouldn't be myself if I didn't donate. Thanks for all your work! :)
Man i can't believe I've been watching freeman's mind since i was middle school! I'm a sophomore in college now and i still get excited every time i see another freeman's mind episode is released! Thank for the entertainment Ross!!
Best Fanbase Ever. So happy be apart of such an group of awesome ppl. Congrats on the Fundraiser Ross.
I don't even care about the resolution, i donated anyway!
been watching this series since episode 4 got released a couple of years ago and got instantly hooked to your humor... In my heart you deserve 100x that money anyway. Keep being awesome Ross!
*After ross posted this*..............*2 days later*.......*CONGRATS YOU NOW HAVE 12K*
"Throwing computer hardware at a software problem"
That alone made me roll on the floor!
I don't care us you leave it at 480. I watch this series because of the hilarity and quality you put into it, thanks for this great series, keep up the great work.
I'm amazed and happy for the support that was given here, in such short time.
My ears are burning...
WELL DO SOME CRACK!!! I mean MEDICINE!
Don't do crack. just don't!
Alexander Bennett
One time I did crack, now I can hear with my feet.
I also went blind, I'm reading this comment in braille.
i am blind...tough!
DShephard91 With your feet?
Ross, I'll give you my kidneys and my children's kidneys if you want them.
Do you accept kidneys?
*ACCEPT MY FAMILY'S KIDNEYS, GODDAMNIT!*
You can't save 500GB worth of files on a kidney.
It just doesn't work that way.
ks~
It does if it's a ROBOTIC kidney.
ks~ what if he stuffed a few flash drives into each of the kidneys...would that work? We have the technology!
ks~ Well not with THAT attitude it won't.
***** That just made my day.
Congratz on the highest level Mr. Scott, good luck on getting through freemans mind recreating it on HD levels!!
I love the fact that you took the time to actually explain all of this, I had no idea the source engine had all these limitations. Honestly, I don't really mind, but I wouldn't bitch about it if the videos did come in 720p :)
It really doesn't need to be in HD. Raise money to expand your channel/career.
"The time honored tradition of throwing better hardware at a software problem" I lost it at that!
Ooooor... you could drop the motion blur :P Seriously though, I'll keep watching regardless of the resolution :)
the motion blur is some of the magic, making it look as it does, without it, freemans mind would not be quite the same anymore.
however i will also keep watching regardless of resolution, but it would be nice if it was 720p, but then to get my compiled version complete, i would have to download all in 480p (of course this is just so i have entertainment and a FULL MOVIE of freemans mind put together on my pc, and movie library, i will not upload it anywhere unless i have direct permission) its going to be simply, edited together segments of freemans mind, with a few black screens with text on them(such as, if he sleeps for the break of one episode to another, it will have a short screen saying 10 minutes later or something)
Jeff Moreau 18 people do :\
Jeff Moreau a lot of people care
pesoen I agree wholeheartedly. I like the motion blur. I also like higher resolutions; 420p is fine, below that is a bit absurd. Above it is always nice but not necessary. This all being IMO.
Delirum Insipientum Think you mean 480, don'tcha?
I don't think RUclips will take 420p :P And honestly, 360p is decent. Not great, but decent.
"Tower of duct tape"... Never heard a better description of the Source engine in my life
Ross you have been entertaining me for so long that you have more than earned a donation from me. The fact that it will go toward higher resolution Freeman's Mind is just a bonus for me. It's only $30 but may it push you closer to even higher quality videos!
I'm recording this at 1080p and 2 hours of footage fills up my 500GB external. Give this guy your money. He needs it.
let's just hope that the quality of jokes and the commentary wont be decreased if he tryes to finish the series this year. i've been watching him since the beggining and i dont mind if it takes few more years cose ill be still watchin u and yet u deserve the money just for the sake that ur still stayin with us and makin those videos!
Waaaiiit,
The Source Engine based of the sorce gold engine of 1.6 times, which based on a Modifyed version of QUAKE and THIS is what titanfall uses as its engine?
Hilarious ;D
The tower of Duck Tape grows ever larger.
Its based from Havok, not GoldSrc. It uses middleware havok, some decent Fx middlewares and their own code....
Ralph Aguilar havok is a physics engine... it is based on the gold src engine.
NO ITS NOT! read the wiki page diot
come back here if u think its still goldsource
dude havok is a physics engine that source uses. source and goldsource are full game engines. source uses code from goldsource, havok and some middleware. goldsource uses quake code.
I've been watching this series for a long time and it is absolutely one of my favourites. I'm only too happy to help out with a donation.
Why am i watching this Video over and over again...
Ross, you never fail to amuse me
I love how you made this video entertaining in spite of the fact that it is pure information. You are a talented comedian....Keep up the good work.
I could care less about making Freeman's Mind into a HD project. It's freaking Half Life. I watch for Ross' commentary on the inner thoughts of Freeman.
But I REALLY enjoyed the insight into how it's made. Wow! You put a lot more work into it than I ever imagined.
Going back to watch this 6 years later, because the content is just *that* good
I KEEP SENDING MORE MONEY BUT THE RESOLUTION ISN'T HIGHER YET
ROSS PLS
Must be a RUclips delay.
Accursed Farms
I actually did send money. ♥
To think this video is so old now that SSD's are considered the norm to get.
What, what? You live in Poland? For real? In what city? I'm from Poland and you just blow my mind with this information.
PFCperkins I think his girlfriend is from Poland. I don't know if he met her before or after he moved there, but if he met her before then that might be the reason.
Huitzilopochtli Clearly he is just a fan of Polish beans, come on folks dont be so silly about things~
Yoshi - K better polish beans than polish vodka ;)
omg fasolki z carrefour'a XD
Gdansk
I'm so happy you were able to raise the necessary funds...and so quickly! Freeman's Mind has been my favorite RUclips series for years, and you always do a great job.
It has to be a good feeling that when you ask for help, so many people support you at the drop of a hat. Good luck Ross ^•^
That ZIPPIDYDOODAH killed me XD
DISCLAIMER:
I can't believe the fact that too many people need to complain. Just shut up, and understand, or don't and fuck off, either way there's no need for a rant on either side supporting or against Ross.
hot damn, you just knocked that goal right out of the water!
Let's see if we can hit the highwater mark!
It has happened. Good on ya community!
HashSl1ng1ngSlasher
Still rising son, and i got 800 bucks coming this weekend and 100 of that is going in that box, if i can get myself a debit card or something
I've been being entertained by this series for years, I'm happy to donate - Consider it thanks for making me laugh time and time again!
At the rate this is going, Ross is going to be able to make plenty of Robot Attack Dogs.
Yeah, like in Snow Crash.
Or he could blow the budget on beans.
WHAT?!! YOU LIVE HERE?! I MEAN IN POLAND?!!...Mind...blown...*Stares at screen*
wow, Ross I think you kinda put in way more work than necessary sometimes, don't get me wrong I do like it, but all I really want is your commentary... don't hardly care at all whether its in 480p or 4k I personally would just like more content because I care more about that then it being ever so slightly pixelated or blurry (which happens anyway just because of youtube) at any rate, great videos and I hope to continue to see more.
Why do I keep watching this? It's been three years
Seven now
...You're in Poland?
News to me.
Now its 2023 and ssds are sometimes cheaper than hdds, wow i kinda forget that tech evolves so fast...
Next goal: Freeman's Mind on DVD
i don't care about increasing the resolution but i do want to, and will, give you money for making this great show. doing that now. shine on you crazy diamond.
I really don't care if its in 480p or not, that's what I watch most videos in anyways.
just donated b/c Freeman's Mind is the funniest shit on the internet.
480p is just fine for me, honestly.
That fourth dimension thing cracked me up so hard
This video is ancient but I still watched anyway to learn more about how the Source engine works (and doesn't)
"the time honored condition of throwing hardware at a software problem"
best quote ever
Thanks youtube for recommending this 5 years later
C'mon guys, six more thousand and Half-Life is guaranteed to be finished this year!
Wait wait hold the phone... Ross SCOTT... Poland, what? Nevermind...
+TheScottishChe1919
yeah, I don't get it either
at least the beans are cheaper
Valve and fix inside the same sentence makes me think of ponies and nuclear bombs. IN the same room.
Cheers!

Sooo... FO:E?
P.S: I really miss your civil protection shows - dammit, I wish you continued that project, but you moved on to better things... so long... Civil protection... :(
It's not dead, and I have grandoise ideas related to civil protection, but for now, most of the audience want to see more Freeman
Accursed Farms Oh big THANKS for replying back to me! :D
YOUR GONNA WATCH THEM IN 480P AND YOUR GONNA LIKE IT
This is a massive piece of internet culture you've made - I keep getting asked if I've seen "Freeman's Mind," sometimes just randomly.
Keep it up, and we can't wait for the next one!
i keep rewatching because this reveals so much about the freeman's mind making process
I'd donate, but i just came back from a trip to finland, spent all of my money on knives and beef jerky, sorry.
I'll see about donating the next week!
I don't think anyone can criticize those purchasing decisions.
I'll just donate the money I was saving for Half Life 3.
Should hope you saved it for half-life alyx
I didn't quite believe the Poland thing until the picture of the cans of Polish beans. BEANS IN POLISH CANNOT BE AN ACCIDENT.
But it CAN be Google-d. lol
This video has my favorite analogy between a hard drive and an SSD.
I'm not too fussed about the resolution, but I really enjoy the show. Liked and donated. Thank you Ross for one of the funniest and most entertaining productions on RUclips.
