- Have you ever wondered what it's like to go through Basic Training today?
So many improvements have been made recently to enhance the process of turning citizens into Soldiers.
That's why we are to launching our exclusive series, The Making of a Soldier, to show you modern day warrior making.
Kenia Mills takes us to Sand Hill for part one...day one and the emersion into a whole new world.
One of my biggest fears is that one day, I will wake up in the morning and I will still be at 30th AG back in 2005.
What month were you there?
Just went through 30th Oct 2021. Apparently it hasn't changed a bit. Still sucks
I feel the same way. Except the year is 2018
@@killroy681 is reception really that bad? My daughter just made it to Ft. Sill last night. She called me and had 60 secs to say I love you Mom and that was the last I heard. I thought she would have her phone for this week and be in a hotel chilling or something, but I see I was wrong!
Fucking miserable went Jan 2 2012
i love how most of the guys in the back are trying so hard not to bust out laughing at "before i was hot" lol
I love this series! It has really inspired me. Originally I wanted to join the air force but now I realise that the army is the way to go in order to serve my country. Just a question though, where is part 2?
Did you end up going
I ship out to Benning on March 31st.
so, 5 years later.....how did it all go??
2:37 Had me dying!!
@PVTTomb150 Hey im shipping in Oct. I hear that the showers at benning at little stalls that give you atleast a little privacy, is that true ? and what about 30thAG do you shower there ?
I'm thinking about it
I still feel nervous I’ll get sent back to 30th and it’s been years
Stop crying….wow!!!
"Before, I looked hot". Wonder if that soldier's shop saw this before he showed up. Good luck living that one down
He caused everyone near him to quietly laugh like hell
At least he has a sense of humor. Thats important to get through BTS lol
Yeah man, you are NOT alone. EVERYONE there is going to be scared, look stupid and need help. It'll be okay man:)
Its like the first day of highschool all over again lol
I needed this man
The," before I looked hot", is priceless look at the ones behind him cracking up lol!!
Oh man. I remember these days. 19 years old, 1998 Ft Benning. Youth, innocence and testosterone.
The way they’re giggling is cute!❤️
"If you aren't sure ask your battle buddy to help you out."..except do it without talking because talking is not permitted. :D
My battle buddy went AWOL, 5th week of basic!
You got it wrong. I believe he said "axe your battle buddy". 😂
my brother is probably getting yelled at right now lol
FutureVibes
Your brother is probably getting out right now
FutureVibes lol
FutureVibes how is he now 4 years later
FutureVibes did he finish serving...????
HA
Great advices: 1.) avoid creating unwanted attention. 2.) observe everything around. 3.) be a team player. 4.) Don't quit / Never give up.
Funny thing is reception is worse than boot camp
There is no hell, only 30th AG.
Agreed.
+TheGary2346 Whats 30th AG mean?
Adjutant General. It's for reception. Each BCT site has one.
Still true 4 years later
True that
I just graduated Basic Training from Fort Benning. They only show the PG version of Drill Sergeant's in this video. Otherwise, things aren't that bad in the end.
What is your MOS?
Everyone going through Infantry OSUT goes in as either: 11X-ray (undeclared) 11B Light Infantry / 11C Indirect Fire Infantry / 11M Mechanized Infantry
it's way different now then it was when I went though Oct 3rd 2001
@@earleaccount Lol he did never answer your question xd
I did bct at fort bliss in 1977
Friends forever... I still remember this guy, he was the morale for the entire platoon, don't know how he does it. I'd kill and die for him.
“Not even sir, do you understand?”
“Yes sir!”
2:14
DONT WALK AT THE POSTION OF PARADE REST!
Haha! I see I wasn't the only one to notice that!
I know this comment is 7 years old but you wrote position wrong lmao😂👍🏻
hahhha i love the other soldier's reactions to "before i looked hot" hahaahhahaha
I leave for meps this Wed. So excited an ready!!! Ill be going to Fort Benning, 11B Infantry all the way!!!!!!!!!! HOOAH!!! :D
Well did you survive?
What's your MOS and where are you stationed now??
Did you make it??
How'd it go?
God bless you sir. May God protect you as you go to fight for our freedoms.
30Th AG was the worst experience.
Charles Exavier 30th AG was like Purgatory but they had great burgers.
"Before I looked hot." Lol, that one got me.
Why are we there so many Overweight recruits? They are extremely picky on overweight people. Also isn't this Infantry Basic?
Simply Reception Battalion. All those fatbodies will probably be held back from going down range and stay at RB for additional training. When I was at Reception (1991), to be sent down range for Infantry School, we all had to execute 15 perfect pushups. I was amazed at how many guys were not able to do so.
Things may be different now, I don't know. Anyone who has gone through OSUT within the last few years, do they still use that standard before being able to go down range for training?
All basic is infantry basic.
You know this how?
Robby Robinson Because I went through the exact same basic as infantry guys as a mechanic. The only difference is that they went to a different school afterwards.
Did you go through Infantry OSUT at Ft Benning? Yes or no?
Go to Ft. Benning Febuary 18th 2014 for Infantry. Wish me luck!
Enjoy your sleep now man.
You gonna volunteer for ump school too? Might as well if you're doing infantry.
I might switch to AD, but the unit im going to (69th infantry) is a pretty good infantry unit
Hi Ryan, I am retired Army Infantry. I know this post is a few years old, but I am very curious as to where you are at now...I am assuming you are now part of the E4 Mafia......Would be extremely interested to hear about your experiences from Infantry School and now as your are on Active Duty. What was your first duty station?
so how is it now ryan? 2 years latee.
I'm currently retired now, but I was an 11BP (Paratrooper). I served with the 173D ABCT, 1-503D in Afghanistan during OEF 10, then I retired in Fort Drum with the 4-31 IN. I retired as an E-5.
Stay motivated, man. I'm sure you have a lot of hopes and prayers behind you. :)
You medically retired?
Did arctic training at drum ,1980 .being from midwest I was the only one in the platoon that knew how to run a coal stove ,put me from the end of the tent ,newby,to head of the class ..kept city boys from freezing to death ,or dying from coal smoke .
11BP?
I got family who live on fort drum its awsome going to visit them plan on going to army bootcamp my junior summer when I turn 17 im 16 right now
Thank you so much for this entire series! As a mom to a son beginning his first week of basic training at Ft. Benning this information has been so helpful at easing anxieties while I wait for graduation day!
So weird... I remember watching this video before I went to basic, and watching it now at my unit. Pretty cool. To anyone going through basic in the future- get ready for a lot of boring moments, a lot of hurry up and wait ( A LOT) and a lot of boring times, but embrace the suck and remember why you are there, stay motivated.
AgRyan12 - So what has your time in the military been like so far? Are you still in? What is your MOS?
Man did I hate that place not because it was hard but because it was boring
Truly learned the Army skill of hurry up and wait. :)
This is so sugar coated haha!
30th ag is hell
Tell me about it, I was stuck there for two weeks.
I'm sure it's changed since I was there in 05 . Never passed basic
When I was there in the 80's, they called the reception station, Just Johnston Hall.
2:14 YOU DON'T WALK AT PARADE REST
I hated the 30th. I was there for 12 days, and probably only did about 5 days of processing. Everything else was just waiting to ship out. That auditorium was the bane of my existence.
What a change since 1980 ... seems like a lifetime ago. We were quarentined (fenced in & icolated) at Fort Jackson for 3 days after being administered our series of shots. Then off to Fort Benning for OSUT training at Sand Hill.
I dunno, those Army Special Forces/Rangers/Spec Ops instructors look like scary mofos
I'm going into the national guard. this is very informative!
*YES SIR DRILL SGT SIR... SIR SGT, SIR*
_kicked so hard by Drill Sgt I end up in the Air Force_
Bring back a lot of memories of myself went through this 33 years ago in ft.sill Oklahoma especially the haircuts but what a great experience for me and good luck to the recruits make the best of your service to our country 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽👍🎖
Anyone shipping 7 Jan? 35M here, basic at Leonard wood, AIT at huachuca.
Idk why but I love watching these cant wait to go got another year left though
they have to talk all nice cuz its being recorded.
Respect to US soldiers and the Army. I've met a lot of good friends who are soldiers, and marines, and sailors. From a US Airman.
Don't know your SSN? Spend 15 minutes at 30th AG and you will have it memorized -
YOU DON"T WALK AT PARADE REST FUTURE SOLDIER!
ahhhhhh!!!!! 2:18 walking at parade rest!!!!
Pretty mild compared to my day which was mild compared to what Pa was through . Pussified type mild even .
My husband started reception at Ft. Benning yesterday, and it's so great to see exactly what he's doing! Thanks!
How was it?
@@whytho2714 I wonder how it was?
Is he still in?
I wish we had this shit on the internet back in 2002. You kids today get a good glimpse into what you're going for if you choose to. Back in the day we just went & hoped for the best but expected the worse, haha.
Great video. Quick question. For those who have done it already, do they re-check your hearing at reception even though they did already at MEPS or is it just eyes and dental? Thank you anyone who answers.
You do everything you did at Mel’s
To keep it sweet and simple:the ONLY tip you need to do great in Basic and in tech school, just do what you're told and you WILL be fine. Good luck bro!
They should pray for peace every single day and be ready to fight when ever democracy is in danger( or oil companies want to steal drills from other countries).
So, who's going? I'm leaving March 5th.
What u doing now?
@RebelliousPatriot You guys can believe whatever BS you want butI'm ganna stay on my theory ( and everybody else's) that ALL branches are EQUAL. Do you hear me? ALL branches are EQUAL!
lol. i've watched this like a thousand times :) love it
Leaving for basic november 13th (2012 obviously) fort benning. 19d , osut
Off to fort benning January 26
I signed as an 11X
Ranger
4 years late but I still have to say, REMEMBER YOUR OPSEC
They didn't call Charlie Company _"Suicide Charlie"_ for no reason, lol
My husband leaves to fort benning October 7th
So did he make it? Or most importantly ....are you still married?
@btsvox9 We all do this for the same reason, if you are taking the time to hate on even one of the branches, you don't deserve to serve anywhere
LMAO...those guys behind him actually made me laugh hard...haha "before i look hot!!"
Air National guard please enlist me I take my in October I’m ready
30th AG best time of my life.
Funny, although 30th AG was akin to watching paint dry, I remember a feeling of impending TERROR once we were shipped down range for Infantry OSUT. Of course once OSUT started it wasn't anywhere as terrifying as I thought it was going to be
basedbray You’re one hell of a masochist aren’t you?
Put the food in your mouth, chew it and swallow it. You can decide if it was any good later.
2 weeks left 😭
was it fun
Ur lucky
How's it going?
2:38 the guys cracking up behind Norby when he said he used to look hot 😂😂😂
I'm one of the cadre at the 30th. Can't wait for all the new PVTs to get here...
I have a question in the army how do they decide which base you train at
Soo different than when I arrived at Ft. Benning in 1993. 14 of us stuffed into an 8 passenger van, picked up from ATL airport around 2130, arrived by 2300. After first briefing, searched for contraband, didn't get chow (DFAC was closed), and got to my bunk around 0100, slept for a few hours before starting the day. Stayed at 30th AG for about 10 days, before we left to begin OSUT.
Ah 30th AG... aka hell. It was only a week but felt like a month.
This place where they give us the tests was really something. They had this great big building, full of doctors, nurses and officers. All of them walking in and out and around real quickety-quick, and not smiling at nobody. And then there was this place something like a schoolroom, where they give us the tests we had to write out.
Reception was 100% the worst part of basic
I’m thinking of joining the airforce
When I’m old enough XD
Army guy here 1966 thru 1969 still the same, just more up dated, loved it, no I did not go to Vietnam, I had to guard White House, I was 519th MP Bn. 716th was in Vietnam. Just watch the movie (Good morning Vietnam). It was very hard to do it but I was treated very fair, I love are Military, my son is now a S/MSGT, in the USAF.
I can't wait to leave for basic
Damn that guy that has a beer belly gives me hope I can join too even though I’m not as fat as him 230 5’11 19yo
Dont worry dude I’ve seen dudes way bigger than you make it through basic
I'm thinking about joining the army so these videos have helped me alot on what to expect when I get to fort benning
Trust me, you will learn patience in reception. It's all about sitting around and waiting. The waiting and the peanut butter shot is the worst part of OSUT. Plus, you'll only go to Benning if you go 19K (tanker) 11C (mortar) 19D (Cav Scout) 11B (infantry) or some form of combat MOS
How’s it going
I went to Fort Jackson in 1990 and I remember we weren't allowed to have any candy so we resorted to cough drops lol.Reception only lasted a week and yes we went everywhere in those cattle trucks.
i leave march 3 for infantry 2014.. any tips or advice
Marco Lopez is it everything you expected? lol
Don't Quit, watch your locker aka toilet paper 24\7, right place right time right uniform, don't get hurt and you don't have to be the last to do something BUT never be the first! Bravo 247.
wowi did it in 2005 sems like forever ago
What happened to part 2?
David Schaum - It’s on here. I just watched it. Did you see it?
i joined the Navy, but I wished I had joined the Army. Navy boot camp was a joke.i wish i could transfer to the Army.
3dartistguy - What exactly would you prefer about army vs navy? How long is navy deployment vs army?
Leaving for basic in 3 months. I know I'm going to need those BCGs. That is the one and only thing I'm not looking forward to lol
I leave in 15 days to Ft. Jackson. Don't worry about BCGs man.
www.army.mil/article/73319/
Brandon Brown Thank God and thank you for pointing that out man. Good luck in basic
Brandon Brown Im going to Fort Benning Tuesday, good luck guys.
Going through basic as an 11B Infantry I can tell you right now, BCG's will be the least of your worries. ;)
How was basics ?
Most those guys probably out of the Army by now.
I remember this place like it was yesterday. To all of you guys going downrange soon, Reception will suck really bad. And basic if youre an 11B will suck even worse. Defiently the hardest basic in the Army.
I went through boot camp at Fort Leonard Missouri in July 1980. There was no physical fitness uniform. Our PT uniform was our duty uniform including combat boots. In processing was simple. The first day with our drill sergeants was hell.
I remember that exact guy that does the boots. Fitted mine and still wear em to this day. They will give you alot smaller boots than you normally wear, they gotta be tight
I remember him too lol he was actually one of the few nice people that worked there.
SPEED STRESS AND VOLUME BABY!@
I watch this just for 2:38
"before, I used to be hot"
dont move at parade rest wtf is wrong with you
Had my basic & infantry training at Ft Benning 1971. My only advice would be..do no more & no less then you are told. They're trying to keep you alive
Most of them are out of the army
make sure that date comes. Drill Sergeants aren't evil people(well most of them aren't :p). They are there to teach new soldiers discipline, basics about the army lifestyle and also what to do in a combat situation(basic combat training.).
Feels like yesterday 😂💀
You do not have to worry about your son. The joke is they call it Relaxin Jackson. haha No Drill Sergeants will never be abusive. The worst that happens is they raise their voice at you if you mess up probably make you do alot of pushups.
11x (light infantry) with airborne. And a little tip since you have a long time until you actually enlist, start doing PT and studying. A lot of the people in my platoon (future soldier platoon) fall out of my recruitment station's 2 mile formation run. :/
That’s me at 1:17!
im shipping in the morning im at the hotel for meps
Erik Bazell did you make it?
2:35 to 2:54 that was SO FUNNY!!
