‘We are not above nature, we are part of nature’ - brilliantly put, sadly so many people see animals as property.
Not just animals but children too. Children and pets are seen as little trinkets that people need to make their lives better because that's the go-to solution for one's own shitty existence. This is why some people and domestic animals are assholes because they weren't conceived with the intention of raising them right.
EminentKnight that's the most ignorant comment i have seen yet on YT. You sound like a sadistic pig.

Yes yes yes. Privileged.

"He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals."
And most people in our society eat factory farmed (tortured) animals. What does that say about these individuals? Time for a change?
@@dancenow1337 Remember most of those people are ignorant rather than cruel. Too far removed from the reality of the situation.
Animals are so amazing, each with their own personality. The greatest joy of being vegan is being finally able to self identify as a true lover of animals ... not because of how they make us feel, or serve us, but because of who they are on their own terms 🥰
Green Vegan Grandma it feels great seeing an animal trust you. Something that is seen as prey and is so vulnerable can actually feel comfortable with you.
And you have to be vegan to see this?
Street-wise Smart-bomb you can’t really be an animal lover if you’re killing them/paying for others to kill them on your behalf can you? If it was a necessity then it’d be justified - in our society there is absolutely no way of justifying what we do to animals. So yes you can "see this" as a non-vegan but if you were truly "seeing" it you’d go vegan right after :)
seeing is powerful. watching this is life changing, if people can see this and not immediately go vegan, it’s definitely a concern. ruclips.net/video/LQRAfJyEsko/видео.html

The animal rights movement will continue to grow as time goes on.
Agreed. You can tell a lot about someone by how they treat an animal or a selfless/defenceless being. As more access to different food becomes more widely available worldwide and the middle class continues to grow through Asia they will slowly move in that direction. Although it is slow. Their empathy is pretty F'kd in general.
@LEO2001 'As long as animals don' t suffer'. Thats the key part of your sentence and the part you probably dont follow or you dont realise you dont follow.
@LEO2001 You cant compare how some animals treats other animals and use that as a standard for humans to live by. We have far developed intelligence and are not under anywhere near the stresses that come with generations of the constant circle of pure survival as a focus. What we are talking about is pure human selfish indulgence. Unecessary over production/entertainment or just pure cruelty with no motive. Although the one biggest reason or excuse is just pure ignorance and 'out of sight, out of mind'. The industries are hidden and the product is nicely packaged and it all functions on hoping the masses remain lazy, non-equisitive and fundemantally have a degree of selfishness.
@LEO2001 Well thats the issue. You just said 'As long as animals dont suffer'. Now you have downgraded that to 'As long as you dont hurt anybodys rights'. So however way you slice it, you advocate animal cruelty because your own selfishness (to make you happyl is more important. Would you therefore have no issue if a being which was more advanced than you tortured you for indulgent eating? As you believe in selfishness for their Happiness I guess you wouldnt really beable to argue against them torturing you. Fair game.
LEO2001 I just want to make sure we understand each other’s perspective here, your first comment says you won’t stop eating animals as long as they don’t suffer?
The animal rights movement’s entire goal is to demonstrate that how they are already suffering, and that suffering is an intrinsic part of animal agriculture as we know it today.
You also stated that you believe in personal freedom and individuality as long as you don’t hurt anybody’s rights. This is something I absolutely agree with, however I also believe that due to the traits we share with animals (sentience, subjective experience, capacity to feel pain and suffer, relationships and family networks) they deserve fundamental rights to autonomy and to not be harmed by us.
If animal activism is done right, it’s not there to tell you what to do, it’s there to show you the exploitation and violence that happens to put animal products on the shelves and to hope that you care about animal suffering to share the belief that what’s happening in these industries is wrong.
If you do feel the way you’ve expressed regarding not wanting animals to suffer, urge you to look further into the animal rights movement and see from their perspective, or at the very least the animals perspective.
Dominion is a good documentary and free on youtube if you’d like to explore this point of view
Animals are loyal, unlike some humans! Love this guy...Power to actors who stand up for animals.

People lash out at atheists and vegans because they don’t like having their reality or comfort challenged, and this fear of change and cognitive dissonance is so widespread that it’s created stereotypes about both groups that end up being heard and absorbed by people before their actual message is heard.
I remember growing up and being told to about atheists as angry disruptive men. As a kid in primary school I sung songs poking fun at vegetarians and looked at the kid who brought a salad for lunch as ‘the other’. I’d formed prejudices before I’d even asked them ‘why’ as individuals, and the only reason I ever found out was because of activism and conversation creating a spark that lead to investigation.
We need to be taught alternative viewpoints, or at least taught to fight cognitive dissonance and fear, rather than the challenge, as the enemy. If we fear the challenge we never grow
As a Christian I feel like we only lash at atheists because there is a tendency for many of them to disrespect our beliefs and insult us. I was an atheist for a very long time and I was certainly guilty of mocking others for their beliefs and treating them as if they were stupid or didnt know what they were talking about. my respect for religious people was non existent back then, and this is the problem. people like who I used to be are the cause for people lashing out at atheism.
WOLVES WWFC1887 Having been on both sides, is it easier for you to understand why an atheist would manifest anger towards christians, and do you have empathy for those who simply don’t understand your way of life?
I think it goes both ways from a knowledge perspective. People raised in religion have a skewed view of what it means to be atheist, but the same is true of people raised agnostic or atheist. It tends to be a vocal minority that represents certain groups, and i think what Ricky and Russel were touching on about dogma being the issue is very true.
LEO2001 I wasn’t suggesting you have to be both, I was just comparing my personal experiences with indoctrination regarding both.
There are a lot of decisions that were made for us in our early lives (not to blame the parents, it’s just a fact of life) and It should be made easier by society and our education systems to self-assess whether or not they align with our personal morals as adults.
Isn’t it weird that (in the modern developed world where we don’t have to) society just assumes we’d like to kill and eat corpses? Regardless of what your answer is as an adult, it’s still valid that the assumption shouldn’t be made, or at least there should be a robust part of our education system that informs people they have a choice and the consequences of their choice.

@llTryhard2k Without food we die, sooo little. I mean is sad how nature works, but we didn't choose it. It just happened. So I agree with you, what we do is okay. Sadly there is no other way for now.
@David Taylor But for best nutrition?. Anyway how we would impose such a system, would require heavy state regulation.
@David Taylor So you would need a cultural revolution. It's interesting, I could try myself. But you think people would follow this trend in a large scale?.

Yet another reason to love Ricky Gervais. After Life is a brilliant show, as someone commented earlier.
Ricky, you articulated the exact way I feel about non-human animals. They are very special beings.
"non-human animals" - very good. Soooo many people don't really think we're animals - they think we are so separate and above it all.
As opposed to what? Human animals?
@@gillybuzz Yes, exactly. What's so difficult to understand here? Non-human animal = an animal that is not a human. It's common fucking sense.
I could not love you more Ricky Its good to know there are more of my kind out there. It is an honor everytime another species trys to make a connection. It made the conciouse decision you are worth its time and attention. That is a form of respect.
I respect both of these men. In my opinion, both are intelligent and highly hilarious. This is what we need, difference of opinion but with respect and dignity. Well done both, great talk.
I love animals too. Since childhood I was always saving something. They reach out to us for help, kindness and care. Even after all some of us has done to them. I wonder if they know that we don't know or long forgot about ourselves. Nature doesn't lie and they ling our touch. Amazing.
I m proud that I have not killed any animal directly or indirectly right from my birth as I have been taught to love the nature and use it for peaceful living without harming anyone... Every soul has the right to have a dignified life.
Animals are truly awesome. They know how you feel about them. It is a privilege to experience love from nature and to be able to have animals to interact with us ,they have that special way to connect. So many blessings all around us. Love conquers all, plus God guides us sand loves us. Thank you so very much.
Great to see an interview that brings on genuine and interesting conversation.
Thank you for discussing this. Animal welfare is at the core of my being and Ricky touched upon everything I feel on a daily basis!
So many of us are desensitized as children, from the moment we're told it's okay to consume animals. Thank goodness for all the vegan parents who teach respect for all beings.
respect for animals must go further than not eating them..... it is about a balance in which ecological diversity can thrive. If you really want to look after amimals, don't wear or use petrochemical plastic, don't catch planes or drive cars, don't eat soybeans (as massive soybean monocultures are also responsible for deforestation) and grow your own food. Leather is better for the planet and the animals which live on it than vinyl.
Cultures have been able to eat animals in a respectful way as being a part of nature not above or separate from it.
Ms Bramble It’s true, indigenous cultures have great respect for animals. That’s not what’s happening in factory farms, and we know that Covid and other diseases are the result of animal exploitation. Animal agriculture is also a huge contributor to the climate crisis. We do not need to continue to exploit nature, we do not need to perpetuate the great extermination, in fact it’s killing us to do so. I believe the respectful thing to do is to become plant-based and stop the forced breeding and subsequent murder of 70 billion land animals every year. you can check out my RUclips channel at green vegan grandma.ruclips.net/channel/UCOyLCj-6Z3c2NzyrUaagQEw?view_as=subscriber
Ms Bramble The massive GMO soy bean plantations are fed to animals. 1/3 of the landmass of the earth is used to grow food for animals for consumption and to house snd slaughter them. We can easily feed the world using a portion of that land mass when people just eat plants directly. And I agree, in addition to being vegan, which is about not wearing or exploiting animals for anything including entertainment, I ride a bike or a bus, I don’t ride in airplanes, I live a simple minimalist lifestyle. It’s spiritually very satisfying. Good karma too.
Ms Bramble I recently saw a photo of a cow hanging from its hind feet, its skin removed, its heart still beating. I would prefer to wear hemp or bamboo clothing then participate or endorse such barbarism.
This was so therapeutic to watch after losing my cat as well, such lovely men ❤️
Ive hardly any friends as 90% of humans are twats, but a animals trust is forever 😘
Troll Ha Ha Ha You gotta be a Pomme de terre. Twat is an old English word.
Twat
The word twat is widely used as a derogatory epithet, especially in British English, referring to a person considered obnoxious or stupid. It is also used informally as a verb in British English to mean "to hit or punch a person". In British English and Commonwealth English, it is pronounced to rhyme with that, or sometimes, to rhyme with hot.Wikipedia More recently it is a reference to the female genitalia. A twat could thereby be an object of great attraction. Similarly: Get Fd could be responded to as: Yes please.
Medical Interest im old too lol older enough to not give a toss... 😘 one thing ive learned in life is that humans aren't to be trusted.
Medical Interest TWAT also means pregnant gold fish... 😉

I really love that you both recognised “Religion” as a different thing to true spiritual relationship.
100% agree with the “good person” part. I know that there are loads of non Christian people who are far better people than me.
One of the things that upsets me the most in life is when people write off Christianity based on what a handful of base people have done. I think that any spirituality needs to be assessed by its principles, the god and how it transforms people’s lives.

Gervais is smart and genuine. Brand on the other hand is an attention seeking poser. His little sojourn in to politics a few years ago sums him up. At first he was acting like Che Guvara, but when he was seriously questioned on his views, he just had to admit he didn't know what he was talking about and that people shouldn't actually listen to him.

It is really amazing how few people ever even try to go vegetarian (or vegan) for a day, let alone a week, or let alone trying it enough to be able to compare for themselves any noticeable benefits they might have. For something so important for our health, as well as for empathy and for the environment, it's just amazing...

2) Apathy?

When you deeply love someone from that space that is beyond attachment to certain projections or desires, when you love someone just deeply, totally, completely, without any games that the mind or emotions play, then that love remains eternal in the heavens forever, and that is what pulls you back to remembering that love.
Yes Tera. Consider that love comes through us all the time. Dogs feel love until humans or other animals cause them to fear what comes back. Humans have a mind that can choose to consider what behavior shows love. A narrow definition creates the false concept of being able to fall in and out of love.
Love and blessings to you both for being advocates for those who have no voice!

I’m an Empath and was never what you would consider religious... fromRoman Catholic family and it’s only NOW that I am having a “spiritual awakening’. I’m clairsentient and I feel energy and feelings from people and living things around me which has been overwhelming my entire life.
I LOVE animals and I believe that we all come from “Source energy” so you can call it God or Prana or the Divine....it’s simply source energy.
It’s not about a specific religious belief, and I am more comfortable using the word “soul” because the word “spirit” is often associated with religion or ghosts.
Make sense to anyone out there? Russell... Ricky.... you’re brilliant!

@@lucasm3879 Different Strokes 😂
The first time I heard Russell Brand talk seriously, I immediately realised that there was a sensitive, intelligent human being looking for the best for all of us. And also, it was the first time that I’d heard how I feel expressed in the mainstream media. I then had arguments with people, friends, who had an image of him, that fed in to his previous life and their preconceived ideas of value in life.
But in all actuality, he is extremely accurate in his observation. And as far as I am concerned, he pulls a little short of the changes required. He points to the problems accurately, but I’m not sure how solid he is about the next step. Agree 100% with all he says, but then when I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop, it doesn’t quite happen. This is not a criticism but an observation of how the mind can’t answer its own questions. The question is being asked to the questioner and that will only supply an answer that is already there. And in this interview, it’s the same for both, as articulate and smart as they are.

I loved Rickey before but now that i find out about his love of animals it's increased.
You know even considered objectively, IT IS A COMPLIMENT when any animal gives us Attention! Even to have tolerance for our PROXIMITY, is flattering when we consider How humans (COLLECTIVELY AND HISTORICALLY) have treated animals.
It Is indeed, THE highest compliment and Honor!
I didn’t know Ricky Girvais has this sensitivity for animals!!!!
We are no more important that a little fluffy buzzy bee 🐝💗
Two brilliant and clever souls.
Serial killers who lack capacity to feel empathy have been understood to start with defenceless animals,. What next.?
@LEO2001 Killing an animal for sensory pleasure, in a world where that is not only unnecessary but inconvenient, equates killing one for fun. As a sidenote, dogs taste just as nice as cows and humans, but your perception of one being expendable depends on the culture you were brought up in.
@LEO2001 I have been much happier overall since becoming vegan, but you couldn't have known that so don't worry. What worries me is the 'I don't give a fuck' attitude, because that, as shown throughout history, is what allows cruelty to exist. It is so easy for us to turn away from things that don't hurt us, situations in which we are not the victim. But what is so beautiful and so very human is our ability and desire to understand another's situation. We can live without causing pain to anyone, and in doing so can help the planet and our own bodies - and we are drawn to that. Love will out.
Very interesting conversation! And completely disproves the idea that you must be religious to understand and feel compassion.
dog park people are the best people, they are just there for the dogs.animals even wild ones can read your aura .animals are smart enough to run from danger. there is always going to be concious and unconcious people, been a witness for70 yrs.
Russell brand looks like he's coming out a celestial lagoon
I don’t understand how people think it’s ok to force pigs into gas chambers thrashing and screaming - it’s just as bad as some video of someone punching a dog, worse in fact (that’s not saying the dog videos are ok - stay appalled at that just extend your compassion beyond pets because that’s arbitrary). The only things that matter are capacity to suffer and is it necessary for your survival. For most people there’s no excuse to be ordering people to breed and kill pigs with your money at a supermarket. That’s an active decision- they will breed more to kill if you buy. Let’s just stop.
Love ❤️ these two 💞

And Russell would literally kick his dog down the stairs (stated in his book)
I think we all need approval from others to a certain extent. That's what makes us a human animal!

After Life Season 2! Soooo gooooood
It's simple some humans are dead and some are alive, that's the culture clash the battle between life and death. That's a reality check.
You know it’s a privilege to have a cat sit on you and give you attention because we will refuse to get up no matter how dead asleep are legs are from the cat sitting on you, haha.
When I have said I don't believe in in religion and I'm not a Christian people look at me like a murderer, I think when your doing some thing for a person when you simply be kind to someone who needs picking up not just the ones you love to who ever comes your path isn't that God naturally running through you, also when some one is being rotten,I say to myself that person is full of pain, instead of wanting to punch them.
