    I took my first shave this morning with a non-cartridge razor this morning, on a new Henson mild with the standard blade supplied. Wonderful and easy - zero cuts. While I have to say I was apprehensive at the start, it was very easy. This almost 56 year old, so shaving for 45 ish years, could not be happier. If you are, like I was, hesitant at shaving with a DE razor, give it a go

    Great video for those that are starting out wet shaving. Leaf? Nothing better. I use the Thorn, yes, a bit more aggressive than the Twig, but nothing has given me a closer shave. I’ve got a collection off razors, but the Thorn is the only one I use. It’s the best razor for shaving around the nose and upper lip because of the small and thin form factor. Yep, for me, the Leaf Thorn is the best razor made.

    I would recommend the rockwell 6c for anyones first razor. You can start with nr.1 plate and work your way up to find your preferred level of efficiency/aggression. I currently use the Muhle R41 for WTG and XTG passes and the Rockwell 6c nr. 4 plate for touch ups and buffing.

    When I started my wet shaving journey to shave my head I purchased the Leaf and all the accessories like shave soap (Hoffman’s/PAA), an alum block, aftershaves, DE blades, brushes, and a good bowl. Loved shaving my head with the Leaf but I was still using a disposable to shape my beard and do my cheeks and neck. You and your channel gave me the confidence to pickup a Twig. Yes it was very different to use at first but after a couple shaves I’m in love with how a gentle two pass shave makes my skin smoother than ever and with almost no irritation on my neck. I can't argue with these recommendations of currently manufactured razors for new shavers. I think you nailed it. In the vintage category, I would recommend the Gillette Slim Adjustable for newbies, a variety pack of blades including Astra SP's and Nacets, a shave stick for face lathering, and some well reviewed synthetic brush from PAA to start.
    If the newby is a methodical and disciplined sort with an average beard and average skin sensitivity, then they may even find the standard Gillette Super Speed or even a Gillette The New open comb (short comb) to be a good training razor. These are relatively easy to find in good condition for small dollars. Find the right blade combination and learn your beard map with 30 practice shaves.

    I recently bought a Leaf Twig. I have a heavy beard and I shave my head. This is the first razor that I have been able to shave my head and face in the same session without any nicks. In the past I have used an old school Gillette clamshell adjustable razor and a 3-piece old-school Gillette. Both are double-edged. Currently right now I'm using Lord razor blades in my Twig. It is truly smooth and gentle shave. I never have any irritation or nicks. The weight of the razor is substantial and it felt good. My second shave was today and I shaved my face and head. Used the Astra Green blades and I couldn’t have been happier. I’ve owned the Rockwell 6S, and all 3 Hensons (mild, medium and aggressive) and the the Merkur 34c. All are decent razors but you will be amazed at how much better the Karve Overlander is. After getting the Overlander I sold all of the above mentioned razors, it’s that much better of a shaver.

      WHAT'S THE COST NEW

    • @billjohnsonseattle
      @billjohnsonseattle Год назад

      @@OhioShaves The Aluminum version is about 88.00 USD (120.00 Canadian). The SS version is about $172.00 USD, and the brass version is about 93.00 USD. I own both the aluminum and stainless steel version, both shave pretty much identically so your best bet is to just get the aluminum version unless you must have a heavier razor, in that case the brass version is OK if you’re alright with patina.

    • @billjohnsonseattle
      @billjohnsonseattle Год назад

      @@OhioShaves Also, where the Overlander really shines is how close & irritation free it shaves, especially against the grain around the sensitive areas like above the lip. It is noticeably better there than most DE razors I’ve tried. The only other razor that comes close is the Charcoal Goods Everyday razor, but sadly the owner retired & closed the business. It also is efficient enough to tackle several days growth, yet mild enough to shave every day with it. Check out the reviews, there are a few that use it ATG on the first pass. I wouldn’t recommend that unless you have 2 days or less beard growth.

    First, I want to thank you and other reviewers for the time and dedicated you’ve put towards teaching and informing people about single-edge (SE) and double-edge (DE) safety razor shaving.
    That being said, would you consider adding the Supply single-edge razor (either the model SE and/or the Single Edge Pro model) to your repertoire of reviews?
    Four years ago, I purchased the Supply 2.0 (now named the SE) as my first single-blade type razor and loved the ease of use and performance it provided. After viewing many of your videos on SE, DE, plate-adjustable and handle-adjustable razors, I’d like your opinion on how Supply would match in performance with other razors; like Henson, Twig, Rockwell’s 6C/S and T2 SS, and Merkur’s 34C and Futur.
    Thanks for your time, consideration and great videos!

    Man....I tried so many safety razors looking for cartridge razor replacement and you cannot compare. I just cannot replicate that cartridge shave. So I use a knock off Merkur adjustable set aggressive and Rockwell for 2nd and 3rd pass. My face cannot handle going against the grain, unless I use a cartridge razor. I got Feather butterfly razor and blades ...price was good but yo that is so sharp, don't let the price fool you...you need to know what you are doing.

      They used to be $12. In my experience, it wasn't that great. Especially compared to these Top Razors. The razor in my opinion has one fatal flaw. It doesn't matter what blade I put in it. I always get blade chatter causing major skin irritation on my neck. Not good for my sensitive skin. Everyone's face is different. Glad you like it👍

    • @alexk3948
      @alexk3948 Год назад

      I liked the KCG head and price (usually on heavy promotion) but the handle was too long, thin and slippery. I sold mine although it wasn't worth much it was never going to get used again as there are better heads and handles. For someone on a very tight budget or not willing to spend too much upfront maybe at $12 but unlikely to be something that gets long term use.
      I'd suggest a Rockwell 2C for a beginner as it's only $40, the 1/3 plate enables them to start low on 1 then move onto 3 when they get confident and Rockwell sell the 2/4 and 5/6 plates seperately to upgrade in future if desired. Still the 6C is only $20 more and you get the 2 extra plates included. There's usually a 10%+ discount code on Rockwells and free shipping if you spend enough.

    My T2 arrived a week ago. Until then, the only DE razor I've ever tried was my dads Invicta Industria Argentina (Fluted brass with both combed edges); once ages ago when I was maybe 18. Forrrrrget it. It tore me up. Thing is probably 1960's. Tried a G.B.S. blade in it a few days before my T2 arrived. I could hardly believe it! Great shave! Only one small nick, with one pass. As for the T2, I love it. With my first use, I thought I should dial it up to 6, so as to be the best comparison with my dad's Invicta. So......I put it to 6. Looked at the size of the gap. Got scared. Dialed it back to 3. And it was similar to the Invicta (same used blade). Of course I'm still finding the best blades.
    I had a Twig in Prism arrive yesterday. Except......they sent me Berry Blue. NOT acceptable. So waiting for them to get back to me.
