    Good on Sue for telling Jeff to shut up, it is despicable that that predatory fuck was allowed to harass her like that and get away with it. Her rage and pain is completely warranted and I think she's inspirational for lashing out like this, she refuses to let Jeff or anyone downplay her trauma. I wish her nothing but the best today.

      Predator? Calling Hatch a predator is the biggest load of bull I've ever heard. Dudes gay first off. Secondly, Hatch is a known nudist. Everyone knows it. And thirdly, if Sue didn't want contact, she should've just taken the beam away from Hatch. She willingly waited for Hatch to come to her before exiting the beam. Now, Hatch words was crude but there was no malice behind it. I understand Sue being angry and empathize with that but I also see Hatchs side. It's just 2 sides disagreeing. Neither was right nor wrong.

    Honestly, I just watched this for the first time today. Been going through survivor for the first time. And I found the response and reactions to Sue quitting and being upset utterly disgusting. Makes me want to just skip the rest of the season. Kathy insisting they still play for reward after this even though A. She wasn't on a tribe with Sue and B. Jenna from sues tribe wanted to split the reward. And then Kathy basically saying "Who cares if that happened? Control your emotions Sue." Big Tom making it very clear he didn't care. Rupert (who I love) saying that Sue just needs to get over it. Surprisingly of all people Boston Rob seemed to be the only one on that tribe who was taking Sue's emotions seriously, but even he thought it was a play in the game. It was disgusting. I hated it. And it has put an awful taste in my mouth for this season. And Richard Hatch is a gross pig.

    I've just rewatched this season and episode and I feel that a lot of people that commented on here, didn't watch the episode.
    The incident - Sue had the option to walk down the another beam before Richard would arrive (& Rob even called out to her to get back to them). She said out loud that she wanted to wait & face Richard, knowing that he was naked and it was a narrow beam and there was no way to pass anyone without touching. Sue purposly chose to wait for him to get there and all Richiard did was try to get by. Sue even said to Richard "come on baby" and Richard said want some honey & Sue laughed & it seemed like Sue was challenging him & even said "Good Job" when he arrived...Richard held his arms up trying to avoid her as they passed quickly, Sue was the one that put her hand on his waist & slowed the pass down, he never rubbed against her on purpose or behaved in a sexual manner. Probst even said come on guys, move it on becuase Sue was taking to long and messing around with Richard. Afterwards Sue laughed again & continue to rib him. Sue then continued with the challenge, continuing to yell out & strategise during the game.
    After the game, when the tribe is walking back to camp, Sue does say that I hope that Richard is voted off for what he did to me, but then she laughs again. Now I'm not saying that afterwards Sue didn't feel what she felt, but it did initially seem like Sue was creating a fake drama for her own end, which is why none of tribemates were sympathetic, as her behaviour at the challenge was that of the instigator!!!
    As the evening went on I think Sue talked herself into believing that she had been treated badly, etc. and her emotions got out of control overnight, sleep and food deprevation wouldn't have helped, but Sue had played everything prior to this incident as if she didn't really want to be on the show. Now I'm not Sue & I can't say how she felt & I do believe in the end that Sue may have felt that she had been violated. But the next day after seeing that Richard had been voted off by the other tribe (nothing to do with the incident, as the other tribe didn't even mention it, his vote off was because they deemed him a threat in the game), and off loading on Probst was way over the top...you can see in the reactions of everyone else on the beach, as they had no idea what Sue was talking about.
    Sue and Richard also were joking with each other at the reunion months later...so there was no ongoing issue with Sue towards Richard or the show.

  • @Delete59187
    @Delete59187 4 года назад +97

    Its not about sexuality, assault is about control. I haven't seen this season and I wasn't there in person so I can't say what happened. But the host blowing off her feelings kinda seems like a production stunt that pushed her too far, and if she was really about fame and attention I don't think she would have left a game that would have guaranteed her the next few eliminations after. (although I haven't seen this season)
    Richard is portrayed poorly on Season 1 and by other people. But reality show editing can work wonders. For all that's known either person could be a manipulative psychopath. Regardless the truth always comes to light.

      i mostly agree with you here but there is one very important thing to note with this situation: it happened in 2004. does this excuse probst's behavior? no, but it does put it into context. what we know now about everyday rape culture, even rape culture in general, wasn't known at all in 2004 outside of hardcore feminist circles, and either victims or police/lawyers who dealt with it every day. he had never, even once, been forced to confront anything close to this in his life. as ill equipped as the show was to handle dan spilo in 2019, they were WAY less able to handle it 15 years before that. given what probst knew back then, there was never any shot he was gonna be able to treat hatch properly at the challenge or even comfort sue hawk properly when she broke down from the trauma of everything.

    Even though Rich meant no harm, he still made her incredibly uncomfortable. Rich for some reason enjoyed being naked a lot, which is fine. But in challenges with such close proximity, I think he should have reevaluated his timings in getting naked.
    What really shocked me though was how Chapera treated Sue afterwards. Hate her or not, they laughed at her, called her crazy and said "it wasn't a big deal." It blew my mind that they spoke about her like that. I was born in 03 so I don't know how jokes were like then, but I would have been so offended if I were Sue watching it back. • @NK-bz9wb
      @NK-bz9wb 2 года назад +8

      Sue is a nutcase. The way she reacted is exactly what is being normalized these past few years- fragile narcissists view themselves as victims and crumble to the ground as they leash out at the world, instead of standing tall as one overcomes obstacles. Unfortunately every woman in her lifetime experiences sexual harassment several times in her lifetime and that's NOT me saying we can go on like this. Richard's behaviour was vile, but the way Sue responded had everything to do with her being either rattled due to past experiences in her life or with her being a narcissist. I lean towards the latter due to her "Why me?" attitude and her general narcissitic tendencies throughout the show. The dancing and the singing by the tribe was disrespectful and none of my friends would act that way, I remember as kid thinking it's terrible. But seeing this now as an adult- in those days you didn't have to cater to every single ADULT'S feelings, it's up to adults to develop a thicker skin, and it was far better that way. Point is, we need to strive to be the best version of ourselves therefore respect others, but there's always someone. If someone did this dance over you would it be the end of the world? Of course not, you would've moved on and so can someone else. You can only get as hurt over something as much as you are willing to let it and Sue is a perfect example.

I don't think Richard meant any harm but he is a total moron for thinking that rubbing his junk on someone and cracking a joke about it is okay.

    Ohhh Sue, my favorite survivor ever!! I was so exhilarated when I saw her face on that boat in the first chapter. I felt so bad when she left. I kind of didn't want to keep watching the show after that. Richard rubbed his genitals on her without her consent. He might have thought that it was funny but there isn't anything funny about that. He had the brilliant idea to make that move ON SUE OUT OF ALL PEOPLE. I'm surprised she didn't throw him off that thing and into the pool. I mean, I played the whole scene in my head and it would've been ugly. Now, whether she used that incident as an excuse to sue him for more money or she felt genuinely humiliated, she did have the right to do so. IT WAS NOT OKEY FOR RICHARD TO HAVE DONE THAT. I however, don't think she lied about her feelings. That woman is hard core it's not like her to walk around crying. She'd had to be a hell of an actress to have cried and exploded like she did; besides, we don't know her life; we don't know if she had gone through something like that before. Also, sexual harassment has always been an issue in the show business. We're just finding out in the last decade.

    This really did kind of ruin the show for me, it made me not want to continue watching. I'm obviously not mad at Sue for acting that way, I do believe she really felt the way she expressed. But I also believe that Richard Hatch did not mean to do anything wrong. people saying he's disgusting and a pig or whatever is out of line. I do think she is a really hateful person, but how she expressed it I'm not mad about. I do think Hatch being naked was a little strange since I'm pretty sure he was only naked once in season 1, and for some reason he was naked every second this season, but he was aloud to do, so I think it was okay. What I don't like is that she DID go back when he was doing the challenge just to go on the beam closer to her team when she could've just gone on the beam she was already on. I can see WHY he would use the "I'm gay" excuse and I also see why people saying that, that's a terrible excuse. They had a relationship in season 1 so him joking and saying "you want some" (or something) I thought was kind of funny especially since it seemed like she was joking with him, ALSO especially since Jeff yelled at BOTH of them to stop. I don't think it was sexual harassment but I also think she really felt the way she did. But I still think she is a terrible person(at least just in the show).

    If you watch the actual challenge when the “contact” occurred, you will plainly see that Sue chose to remain on the beam crossroad, taunting Richard and purposefully forcing him to scoot past her, resulting in said contact. Removing ones clothes was clearly not against the rules or Probst would have prevented Hatch from going nude in EVERY challenge prior to this one. If Sue didn’t want contact with a naked man during a challenge, perhaps she shouldn’t have stood there saying “bring it on, Richard.”

      Dude you can’t be conflicted by this. She has the right to blame survivor, they let sexual assault happen without consequence (He had to get voted out rather than him getting kicked off). It doesn’t take a genius to understand that somebody would feel extremely uncomfortable after what happened. If he passed by you making sure to touch you (presumably with his junk) while naked, how would you feel? Uncomfortable? Like you just got violated? It’s not the type of situation where it only triggers some people, most people would have felt uncomfortable in that situation. Even if you disagree with that, just look at how violated and angry she was. She had that shit built up, she had responses for everything that Jeff would probably say, after something that causes that much emotion it takes processing time to fully even understand what you’re feeling about a situation. That’s why she didn’t tell a staff member beforehand or expressed it immediately, she was probably still in shock that it happened

      people have been naked on the show before, and since, so to survivor, it's just a guy who thinks being naked will give him an advantage.

      This wasn’t sexual assault it was just an awful “accident” that Sue purposely caused. Poor Rich, because he has to live with this reputation now and it actually caused him from playing All Winners.

    • @sonicplushycentral

      This isn’t about feminism bs, its about lies, Sue try to bank off Rich, and she did. And because of that it cost him and fans his Survivor Career aswell as his reputation. Sue could’ve gone on the other, but she decided to put Rich in a position knowing he was naked, rubbed up against him and tried to make him look like the bad guy. Maybe its not her intention but that’s certainly what happened.

    See, I honestly think she had a right to quit, but I don't like how this negatively affected Richard. Let me put this into perspective, people seriously believe a GAY MAN sexually harassed a woman, and that it wasn't an accident. This is quite obviously also why Richard Hatch wasn't cast in Winners at War, because of the Dan Spilo controversy. It's frankly stupid, they completely fucked Hatch over on this

    Sue is so bitter and hateful, she has not changed at all in 20 years. I feel sad for her because she clearly has nothing but rage and distain for herself. Learn to love yourself Sue, you could be such a beautiful woman if you could understand your vile disgust for yourself and heal. You lash out to harm others because someone has hurt you.

She knew the nature of the close proximity each person would have but remained silent about having any concerns or dismay. She could have stated she was uncomfortable with his appearance but she made a choice not to. She did not speak with Jeff regarding his appearance nor did she say anything to anyone else about it. Sue never told Richard to put his clothes on and that he made her uncomfortable, she could have but she did not. Had she said something before the challenge or any of the other challenges they participated in together it would be a different situation.
