No amount of being cool or kicking ass makes it OK to use your nudity to intimidate another player during a challenge. That's what he did to Sue Hawk. It's not about him being naked around camp; you can simply walk away from someone who is naked around camp. But Sue couldn't walk away from him on a narrow platform and a beam during a challenge; knowing that, he got up on her and deliberately intimidated and embarrassed her. If you haven't watched the incident, watch it. It wasn't OK. And props to Jeff and to the other producers for making the right call. There is no amount of awesome strategy or game play that makes it OK to sexually harass someone.

Can it be possible for CBS/Survivor to make another season of 'winners at war' that are NOT on this season, like, immediately/soon? It'll give Richard and Tina to come back.
But yeah, I can't forget about that interaction/run-in between him and Sue. But I do believe Richard has learned his lesson. He won't be another 'Dan'.

Solito Reyes II not at all. Other than being condescending about being able to do something and never actually doing it, it is the same game played every time he has been on the show. Not terribly watch worthy. Boring actually. No shock value, no scheming, nothing. Yes, it could be editing. If he were truly clever he would play into that and utilize his talents accordingly.

At 5:07 Rich makes a fantastic observation that he himself downplays in this video.
In Season 6, 𝙎𝙪𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙫𝙤𝙧: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙢𝙖𝙯𝙤𝙣, there is an episode titled: “Girls Gone Wilder” (a reference to ‘Girls Gone Wild,’ an adult entertainment franchise that produced over 300 adult films of young women from 1997-2011) where two young female contestants (one of whom is just 18) tell host Jeff Probst that they will strip if he can get them peanut butter and chocolate. Rob C., a male contestant, jokingly pleads with Jeff to fulfill the girls’ request. Next thing viewers see is Jeff bringing out a plate of peanut butter and Oreos goading the girls on. Not only do the girls take their tops off, they also lower their bikini bottoms to their ankles showing everything-not just their breasts.
Jeff Probst played a part in literally manipulating the situation behind-the-scenes to get two young women, one who was barely legal, to show it all. As Rich states at 6:42, the hypocrisy from Jeff is ridiculous. The show benefited and profited from these nude scenes that were considered “family friendly” back when they aired; Now Jeff is trying to rewrite reality after initially profiting from the show’s openness with nudity.

During the challenge in Allstars where that supposed incident took place, Probst told the tribes (or at least Sue's tribe according to her) to balance across specific platform beams. When Sue went down the beam towards Richard and his bare ass, you would think she would have surmised that in order to maneuver around him they would have to go close quarters if she wanted to get past the large naked man and on such a thin platform it would be difficult not to graze her especially with Richard's extra weight if of course there even any contact at all. We all know he is very comfortable with nudity something Sue had plenty of time to learn in Borneo, fully aware of her former tribemate and his more recent indulgence in doing challenges nude (likely to his credit a machiavellian strategy of unnerving his competitors), Sue in that moment chose her path towards Richard, the producers chose to allow Richard to remain nude even in a challenge where close contact is largely unavoidable which eas completely their decision but Richard takes all the flack for it such from those like you who make Richard out to be some sort of aggressor. In the moment Sue and Probst gave Richard a mild chiding, if it would have been a touch of any real significance he would have elicited a much clearer reaction from her but it didn't but rather she had a bit of a delayed reaction to it back at camp. I'm not saying she lied but there was most certainly a difference of perspective on how the situation played out and she and Richard both talked it out and discussed it, even though you don't hear Sue complaining about it now the show won't touch Richard because they have let that incident alongside his blunt candor muddle their image of him so they toss him aside in some misguided effort to avoid controversy even though the show is the biggest instigator in gaining controversy.

Typically we are not able to watch the event unfold right on our television screens as opposed to many situations of the Weinstein effect where we usually hear about a number of egregious stories after the fact and it can be up to a number of victims but we had the chance to witness, the one potential blemish on Richard's reputation, compared to those like Dan Spilo, Louis CK, or Matt Lauer, its not even close to being comparable. It is still a very good point but Richard's absence in season 40 may come down to simply the pettiness of Jeff Probst with throwing Richard under the bus because of course the show can easily bend the narrative to whatever they desire.

HOWEVER, I really don't think he should so easily overlook the incident that occurred with Sue Hawk in All Stars. Maybe since it was so long ago, not as many people remember, but it was a MASSIVE deal and is probably the closest thing to sexual harassment that the show has seen (at least until the S39 issues)
CBS and production had to pay Sue Hawk a private settlement due to the incident that happened at the challenge, and I'm sure that it was THAT that had made the executives question Hatch coming back. If they had to do any sort of settlement for Dan/Kelly, they may be thinking, "Hm, should we really open ourselves back up to the possibility of legal action, just to have the original winner on?"
I can't be the only one that could see EVERY morning news outlet playing the Sue Hawk explosion from All-Stars and the Kelly confessional from S39, talking about how the show has actually done nothing to change its ways.

Well, Matt, I’m happy to address the “Sue Hawk” situation, and I will do so in an upcoming video. Then, perhaps, you will address the Matt Barber situation in which you and others like you pretend they know things they are outright imagining without putting any critical thought into their perspectives.
I spent an entire season on Survivor with Sue during which she and I were both often naked. Further the woman was more crude and sexually explicit with me about her sex life than any woman had ever been. Oh, and did you forget I’m gay and have never had any sexual interest in women? Those are some of the things that should have made you skeptical of salacious reporting. Things you probably don’t know include the fact I was voted off the show and unaware of Sue’s claims made after I’d left. Further, Sue has informed multiple people she knew she couldn’t win and planned to figure out a way to extort CBS. Add to that, we all (Sue included) watched the unedited footage from all four cameras showing how she turned around in the challenge to intentionally instigate interaction with me, and I NEVER touched her or anyone else - despite the salacious reporting and false claims. So your contention I ever did something to her or anyone else is ignorant and inappropriate. Had you interest in sharing an opinion, it would be helpful to learn more about what is true before acting like the typical ignorant bully your comments make you sound like.

. Probst's comment about "now a family show -so not comfortable with Hatch's nudity" is incredibly absurd since we all know all he has to say is "no nudity in challenges" and Probst had a big hand in the Sue becoming distressed by not saying that for that challenge. But no offense but you not mentioning Sue here wasn't a great look.I personally already know what you've said about it but a lot of others probably don't and were probably waiting for that here. Probst also came off sounding homophobic with those comments though I'm sure he did not mean to. You mentioned the stripping for peanut butter incident on Survivor Amazon. One of those girls, Jenna Morasca, went on to win that season, and like you, will not be on Season 40. I have some issue with how you characterized this incident. What made the air, and has been backed up by interviews and I believe Rob Cesternino's podcast, was Jeff Probst mentioning how temptations would be offered. Jenna specifically wanted chocolate and peanut butter, and SHE was the one who offered to take her clothes off for those items with Heidi chiming in too. This does not sound like Jeff "challenging" them to get naked. Yes, he provided the temptation they wanted (almost... Oreos instead of chocolate), but you make it sound like Probst initiated this incident by daring them to get naked. I think this is an important distinction.

When it comes to the choice to have him on again or not the public perception matters. As for the fact that you keep mentioning that he's gay so he could not have assaulted a woman I think this is complete nonsense. The accusations was that he touched a woman with his genitals. Your sexual preferences have nothing to do with this act. I would also like to point out he purposely did that challenge naked with the hope that the threat of touching his naked body would freak out the other players enough that it would help him win. I've seen every episode survivor has ever put out and I can't remember anyone else ever doing that. It's not because no one else is smart enough to think of this. It's because no one else is willing to cross that line and be that big of a slime bucket. Also it definitly didn't happen so it's obviously absurd and unfair to punish him and more importantly the audience for it because season 40 will be worst without him. First off, I am not and never have been a Richard Hatch fan. Sorry, Rich. I don't agree with your views on many things, including your tax evasion. Look, man -- you messed up. You should have gone to jail. I think that you did Sue Hawk wrong in All-Stars, and hope you made your peace with her. (whether she considered it sexual assault or not is up to her, not some poster from below) I also hated the way you played the game in Season 1. Too cold, too distant. And I'll never agree with your election as being the first Sole Survivor. Those are my feelings.
That being said, you are completely right in calling out "Survivor" as being hypocritical and two-faced for not including you in the Winners at War edition. Even though I vehemently disagree with you being a Survivor winner, you are, in fact, a Survivor winner, and should have been given the chance. For someone -- whether it be the producers, the advertisers, or some knucklehead like Probst to fear that you would engage in something inappropriate at any time is a symptom of what's wrong with society.
The whole situation underscores the fact that I am proudly no longer a liberal. For decades, conservatives went overboard in their restrictions on society. Now zealot, fire-eating left-wingers are also engaging in restrictions. Write a famous book and then come out later with your own opinions on something in society? Book gets shunned. Angry because there aren't enough minorities representation? Cause such a whiney, whinging howl that networks like CBS publicly decide to engage in SEGREGATION by putting a person who fits a certain race/gender/sexual orientation/whatever in a show instead of a more qualified person who does not meet that criteria. It's a violation of what Martin Luther King, Jr. said: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." Is it the fault of the book that the author has an opinion? Should it made as to the book's quality (or for that matter, a movie, or a piece of art, or whatever? Hitler was one of the principal founders of the Volkswagen company -- should we denounce their fine vehicles as fruit from a poisonous tree? Putting a capita on who should appear on a show is simply making quotas, and really is the same as saying who can eat a certain lunch counter or drink from a public fountain or use a public toilet.
It's disgusting. There are so many fears in society about how to act right now, both from the right and the left, that the joy that we all shared once has dissipated and people are being expected to act as proper automatons. We're heading towards a dystopian, war-filled future fast, and anyone who is a radical member of either side is completely guilty of driving that boat.

Richard, you remind me of Meghan Markel’s Dad. You are mad that you weren’t taken along for a 3rd ride. So now, you are going a tirade about how you’ve been wronged. Give me a break. You won S1. What did you do with it to grow the brand, build relationships?? Oh, that’s right, you evaded paying your taxes, spent time in prison. I’m surprised you made it on fit a second time. This show continues to be a success because it works. For 38 seasons it has been a tremendous win for CBS and all involved, NOT because Richard Hatch was involved. You’ve had your moments. Move along. Sure if what you say is true in that you cancelled your school, etc... I am sorry for you. They should not have cased you in the first place.

Because he was stupid and didn’t get it in writing that CBS would pay the taxes on his winnings in exchange for keeping quiet about Kelly giving blowies in exchange for samwiches. Burnett told Rich to team up with Rudy then got Sean and Dirk to switch their votes to Stacey at the last second. Otherwise Rudy and then a Rich go next and the series dies.

Richard's gameplay was the best. Fresh cast that never had another season to watch. He takes a loyal friend to the end, steps away from the last challenge to enjoy breakfast, because he knew Rudy couldn't make it and he'd get to take the goat to the slaughter in the end. Boss move.

first of all okay he was called to go on a season. was it winners at war? i don’t really know. but there was just a situation that involved inappropriate touching. i don’t think there gonna put a guy that’s the exact same on there! plus i think it would be such a huge disrespect for sue and the other victims of the inappropriate touching. and you want to be on survivor? STOP talking bad about survivor. and jeff probst is great! he didn’t steal it from anybody! jenna and heidi actually came up with them getting naked. maybe if he actually watched survivor he would know what happened. jeff had nothing to do with it. it’s entertainment. and no not everybody walks around camp naked. nobody should. i mean it’s kinda disgusting i’m not speaking for everybody but i definitely am for my self that’s so disgusting!!! but i think richard hatch should definitely watch what he says! talking bad about jeff and survivor ain’t gonna land you on that show anytime soon bud.

Ik it's years past the fact but it would've been really interesting to see how far Hatch could've gone on the all winners season, would they have targeted him right away for being the original king of survivor or would they have looked at him as an old, outdated player that can't hang? I'd assume it be the earlier given how old school players were targeted, but if Hatch could've masked his threat level between his age and it being a season littered with other equally big threats I genuinely think he would've had the potential for a really deep run

  • @quiddity99
    @quiddity99 5 лет назад +1

I do kind of wish we could see Richard Hatch on this season and its unfortunate that he won't be on, especially after being recruited for it and what he had to do to make himself available.
But let's not rewrite history. Its not Richard being naked that is the problem. It is Richard rubbing himself against Susan while naked, Susan quitting the game because of it, and CBS/Survivor needing to come to a settlement with her that is the problem. After the Dan thing happened, there's no way they ever would have let Richard on the following season.
And he's mischaracterizing what Jenna and Heidi did in season 6. They came up with that, it wasn't asked or encouraged by Jeff.

  • @genniferdavis5830

I would also validate your argument further, Shirin in very recent situations chose to be nude at times and it made it into the edit. Season 39 was horrible, but anyone with logic understands the difference in the situation with you and Sue, she was after a check. And got one. I have no idea how they think they can have an all winners season without you. You aren't just the first winner, you are a brilliant strategist. I am truly sad for you, I feel that you have been thru enough just based on who you are.

This season could have been really good. I feel like it’s rigged because all the old school players were voted off right out the gate. I mean voting Ethan off third was just unnecessary. I was born four years after the first season aired, and I didn’t start watching Survivor until maybe five years ago. I finally decided last week that I would watch every episode and one day apply. I just finished the first season, and it is very clear that Rich was the ultimate Survivor: everyone just wanted to get to work from the start, but Rich was smart by trying to strategize and form alliances/thing about the long game. Having no other castaways before him to take an example of, this proves that he is the ultimate Survivor. Now I am sad that he was not on Winners of War, he should’ve been the FIRST choice, and the producers should have not gone back on their word.

You and Tina got robbed from the season. U and Tina both played great games showing early how Survivor is played. There are too many recent winners and there should have been more from older seasons. You were the first contestant I cheered for. Like the only reason you got voted out of all-stars is because they knew you were a threat. If you returned you would have been easily final 5-12 and maybe even won.

You're right Jeff did make it happen--the stripping for peanut butter thing that Jenna and Heidi did.
