My mum who passed away 4 yrs ago loved Bill Walton. My mum never even watched b-ball, as far as we knew. One day I was by her house and apparently Bill Walton was on tv for something. She goes please turn up the tv that is my all time favorite basketball player Bill Walton. I turned around to see where she was going with this and who knew she knew his entire history. I texted my brother guess what? He did not believe me until he talked to her later that day. My mum was full of surprises. R.I.H. Bill Walton and mum. ♥
I just heard over the weekend that he had cancer. Monday was my birthday. Hubs took me to brunch, Bricktown, OKC. when that news came on, the volume came up, the whole place quoted. I cried. I loved that for him.
One thing I find a bit disappointing in all these eulogies of Walton is how smart he was as a TV commentator and his knowledge of basketball. I feel he is dismissed as some goofy eccentric who was only a color commentator because of his reputation as a player. But he actually provided as much substance during a broadcast as any other commentator if not more so. Even while he would spend minutes talking about the local geography or his experience at a Bob Dylan concert. He was astute enough to know when nothing in the game was worth talking about. But then the second he saw a great pass during a game he would come back and acknowledge how great it was.
Of course he was. Stoned out his mind. Also, painkillers. Get it together Dem dan. Try asking some uncomfortable questions to your Dem base. Not just try to bury Conservatives.
