Pete-it is Marino's stats that are the problem. In his 3 championship game losses he had 4 TD's BUT 6 INT's and 2 fumbles, an avg. Passer Rating of around 60, and he led his offense to an avg. of only 12 p.p.g. How can a TEAM win championships when their QB is playing like that ?

  • @zenlandzipline
    @zenlandzipline Год назад +8

Whether or not he was the greatest doesn’t concern me. (Most people feel Brady or Montana or whatever, and they may be right.)
But to me, Marino was the most exciting quarterback to watch on Sundays. He had a lot of balls to throw that football into coverages that most Q-backs would not throw. (Steve Young said Dan made throws he never would have attempted.) Probably a little TOO confident at times, and that would sometimes result in an interception. But it was exciting to watch. His accuracy and release and velocity on the ball was amazing. Every time he took the snap, there was that anticipation of that long throw, hitting a receiver in stride, or into double coverage and rocketing that ball right where only the receiver could catch it.
Idgaf if he won a SB or not, he was the most exciting QB to watch play the game, and in the end, isn’t that why we watch football?

I hate the Montana (who won 4 superbowls all with top 5 defenses) and Brady (had all top 10 defenses) get treated like they had more individual talent just because they were on better 53 men rosters. Marino was better at the position than Montana... Just like Rodgers, Manning, and Brees are better at the position than Brady, but he has much more help, year in and year out, due to Bellichick and the recruiters and staff... This is what happens when you let the people who aren't the smartest make these determinations. so Foles is better than Marino, now???????

Silver Jaiden You’re a moron! The offense still had to perform against top D’s with Montana and Brady at the helm. You’re ridiculous! Play the position of QB and then talk smack! Montana and Brady didn’t or don’t make the common mistakes MOST QB’’s make. There are SO MANY variables in the DECISION MAKING process of throwing the ball ACCURATELY along with throwing to the OPEN receiver DEPENDING on what the DEFENSE is giving. The instinctive more athletic QB’s who have played in the NFL have mostly FAILED. VICK is the PERECT example...GREAT athlete...however lacked great decision making when pressured which had he NOT had his great escapability with speed, Vick would have had a VERY HIGH Sack Ratio GUARANTEED! ELWAY was IMO the MOST TALENTED QB during his era and possibly of ALL TIME with a GREAT ARM and LEGS to avoid pressure when needed...ELWAY should’ve won more SB’s but to your point didn’t have a balanced D to match his offense along with never having a great line with a superior RB until DAVIS showed up in ELWAY’s two final SB appearances which he finally WON! Manning and Brees throw or threw the ball 35-45 times a game along after QB’s were HANDS OFF...ENOUGH SAID! They both are HOF QB’s...keep in mind MONTANA played when QB’s were FAIR GAME and DEFENSE’s (Bears, Giants, Saints, Eagles) were FIERCE!! MONTANA played them ALL, took his licks and still found ways to WIN 4 SB’s with 11 TD’s...ZERO INT’s.
      Case Closed KID!!!!
      MONTANA IS GOAT!!! Hands down!!!

In the other 2 championship games he had a total of 4 TD passes dropped that ended up in Zero points. It's obvious you just look up stats and never even watched those playoff games. Also in the 1995 playoffs vs Buffalo, his receivers had 10 passes dropped in 1 playoff game which is also a postseason record with most drops. I love the way Marino didn't get baited into the Brady better than Montana narrative. Truth of the matter is I'm sure Marino, Kelly, Elway, Montana, Aikman , Staubach, etc all feel today's NFL pecking order has been made out to be a joke because of the flag football mentality. That's why it's like "what do you think"? Marino knows deep down today's QB's that throw for 5000 doesn't equate to him throwing for 5000 and most of the QB's like Johnny Unitas, Bert Jones, etc could have played until they were 50 with today's watered down protection. That whole conversation is a joke.

Before Brady there WAS football. In that era from 1984-1998, Montana easy number 1. But number two is tough. I’m a die hard Broncos fan from before their first SB against Dallas. So I’m a good person to have a take on this: Loved Elway! Jumped up and down when we got Elway. But those first 5 years, Dan was better than Elway. No question. Dan was an assassin. Elway would throw two interceptions and fumble. Then he’d construct a drive in the last minutes or OT for a thrilling win. Dan just beat your azz in 4 quarters. Dan is the best passer the game has ever seen. Joe Namath number 2. Quick, accurate, ESPECIALLY with the long ball. Today’s dink and dunk sh!t puts me to sleep

    2 Dan Marino
    3 John Elway
    4 Aaron Rogers
    5 Steve Young
    6 Tom Brady
    7 Peyton Manning
1-5 would dominate in any era. Brady would have struggled in the 80's. Can you imagine Montana and Marino playing now with all these QB friendly rules? Millennial fans have no clue. Brees is second all time in stats, that is laughable.

@@CesarPerez-it8xy Just because YOU say it does not mean it's true. The following are rule changes since you do not understand:
1993: It is not intentional grounding when a passer, while out of the pocket and facing an imminent loss of yardage, throws a pass that lands beyond the line of scrimmage, even if no offensive player has a realistic chance to catch the ball (including if the ball lands out of bounds over the sideline or end line).
1995: When tackling a passer during or just after throwing a pass, a defensive player is prohibited from unnecessarily and violently throwing him down and landing on top of him with all or most of the defender’s weight.
2002: It is illegal to hit a quarterback helmet-to-helmet any time after a change of possession.
2006: Low hits on the quarterback are prohibited when a rushing defender has an opportunity to avoid such contact.
2009: Clarified rule regarding low hits on passers: A defender cannot initiate a roll or lunge and forcibly hit the passer in the knee area or below, even if he is being contacted by another player. This is known as the “Brady rule,” because it was implemented after Brady was knocked out for the entire 2008 season.
If you’re comparing quarterbacks from earlier eras to today’s, it’s worth remembering that many older QBs had their careers shortened by plays the NFL would severely penalize today. Steve Young’s career ended because of a brutal hit from Aeneas Williams that knocks him out.
Thanks you for allowing me to provide some facts to further confirm my original list. You should present facts when trying to make a comment.

I don't care that they have two championships and a perfect season. The Dolphins have always been a poorly run organization. Marino fell into their lap and they were so enamored with Marino's ability, and rightly so, that they focused entirely on the offense and completely neglected the defense for over a decade. I can't tell you how many times they lost games after putting up 45 points.
