      It is at a stand still right now. Waiting on a bonus check to get some .223 projectiles and some powder. Other than that got almost all my .40s&w brass polished up in the tumbler. I have a question. How long do you polish your cases in the tumbler and what polish and media do you use. Can you just use media alone w/o the polish? Just picking your brain. Thanks

    Nice setup.
    My question is regarding primers and the data used to select them. I haven't found any information on this subject but haven't looked real hard either.
    Other than selecting a primer that fits in the case, what other info do you use to select a primer for any given load? What criteria goes into that decision? I am assuming that primers vary greatly in their design performance and I would like to know how to use those differences to get the desired outcome. I have not ever seen any info or recommendations printed on the box like "use these primers in belted magnum cartridges using powders with a burn rate slower than that of IMR 4350 and bullet weights greater than 160 grains," or some such recommendations. Or maybe, (and I'm not sure) as long as the primer fits in the case and ignites the powder, very little, if any, difference from one primer to the next can be seen. Do primers have any real, measurable effect on the overall cartridge performance? Can a poor selection of primer cause any safety issues (over pressure, or something like that) in the finished cartridges? Ide like to hear your thoughts.
    Thanks
    Mike

    very interesting.i started reloading in the late 70's.i was never overly active in it but am currently going to start again.brass i store in a similar way.i try to keep it by brand.my bench is small compared to yours but it's functional.i learned the basics of reloading by reading and speaking to a man over the phone.basically one step at a time and do it safely.no smoking etc.my first reloading kit was $55.today it would be $250-$300.or more.it was RCBS.thanks for the tour.TOM KOSKY.

    I'm assuming you use the IMR4895 for the M1 Garand? It's been by far the best powder for cycling auto feed rifles in my opinion. I use it in my Garand and SVT40.

    You and I could trade reloading rooms and probably not skip a beat. They are so much alike. I have been reloading since 1978 and have a lot of the same stuff as you. I started out with a Lyman Turret press just like the one on the floor in your room. I traded it off and got the RCBS Rock chucker. Wish I had it back but wouldn't trade the Rock Chucker for it. lol Enjoyed the video.

    • @KD4BAW

      Pops, As a beginner I would suggest that you start with a Single stage press for about 2-4 years before taking the leap to a progressive press. Learn the steps and get your good reloading habits started. Then go to a progressive press! NEVER The other way around!! If you want precision loading for your 223, single stage it!!! You can't beat it!!! Starting with a progressive press causes you to develop bad habits and not to do your safety checks along the way! Just my take after 40+ years of loading and 20+ years teaching it! Have fun and BE SAFE!

    That's an awesome set up you have and very well organized. I use to reload years ago but got out of it because the ammo I shot was cheap. I'M getting back into reloading because of ammo prices going sky high and the fact that some ammo is really hard to find now days. I'm only reloading 9mm and .308 for now. The .308 rounds that I'll be loading are going to be for an FAL STG-58 and a CETME so I want to custom load rounds for them. I mainly shoot military 7.62 x 51 out of them rifles because I've herd some say the commercial .308 ammo can be a little hot for them rifles but I've never had issues with it myself.

    noob question here. ive googled and googled but it seems everyone that chimes in on this has a different opinion than the last. so. hopefully yours will help the most.
    i want to get into reloading. best beginner equipment you know of ? best place to get casings and bullet and powder? if there was a top 10 things all beginners should know, what would it be ?

    • @Buckrun11
      @Buckrun11 10 лет назад

      I will start you off with a list of 5 that I would recommend.
      Reloading won’t save you money. You will spend just as much money shooting as you did before you started reloading. You will just get to shoot a lot more and become a much better shot.
      It depends on what you want type of firearm you want to reload for as what is the best kind of equipment to get. High volume shooting handguns get a progressive. I like Dillon!
      It is hard to spend the money on a reloading set up. Especially when to get set up correctly it will cost as much as another firearm. You will not regret it if you plan on shooting the firearms you already have. You will be able to shoot a lot more!
      For handguns that you will be shooting a lot you might want to also think about getting into casting bullets. Find a course of wheel weights and you can make a bunch of bullets cheep.
      Get hard copies of reloading manuals. I try to have a manual from each bullet manufacture that I use their bullets. I have learned a bunch from reading about different cartridges. I suggest the Lyman manual as the first in your collection. It goes into a lot of the process of loading step by step.

    • @live4wild968
      @live4wild968  7 лет назад

      What do you mean? Not full of powder? If so yes different powder uses less space to do the job. O have 30-06 and 300mag I can shake and hear the powder move.

    • @HuntchSquad
      @HuntchSquad 7 лет назад

      live4wild no like underpowered compared to factory loads

    • @live4wild968
      @live4wild968  7 лет назад

      Is it old powder? What powder are you using. I check my loads with a Chronograph. I don't have that problem. Most of my loads are hotter then factory. Are you loading 223 specs or 5.56 specs ?

    • @HuntchSquad
      @HuntchSquad 7 лет назад

      223 spec and imr 3031 its about 6 moths old by this point they jsut feel really light when I shoot and I dont have a chrono to test

    • @live4wild968
      @live4wild968  7 лет назад

      Chrono is the best way to find out. Then you would know how must pressure you are building. How is the bullet placement on target down range. Is there a difference between factory and reloads
