    Got an 8ft section of countertop at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore for $2.50/Linear ft. So $24. Drove to the nearest town with a Menards (40 miles away, made for a nice Sunday drive) and got the frame, the 3/4"X2'X4' plywood, and the hardware. Gonna try and put it all together tomorrow.

    This is by far the best DIY video I've seen to date. I built one with all of the exact same items except I made it 6' long and added a pair of t-tracks. I routered two 4' grooves to mount and sink 2 heavy duty flush mounted t-tracks that take 9/16 bolts to secure any device without drilling any holes. This also makes the bench more flexible to temporarily add/remove any items not in use like case trimmers and powder measures.

  • @greatdaneparis

    Awesome! I went to menards right after I watched this, and they had a customer return 10ft piece of the white marble. Its the more expensive style, and it had the sink cut out towards one end. I think I can get 5ft of it and now a nice butcher/ cutting board of the sink cut out. I like the t tracks comment. I think that these 2 together would be the best but also wonder how t track would hold up to your more aggressive style of reloading

    Could this be done without wall anchoring if a different workbench frame is used? I live in a single wide trailer and have nowhere else for a bench and don't want to destroy my walls. I plan on getting an insulated building later on to move it into.

      @@ElfstersRiflesandReloading Does the size you chose also add to the solidness of the bench or was it just easier to work around the 8 foot length? I'm unsure if I would need an 8 foot space since I don't plan on producing a large amount of ammo.

    Menards now sells a pre-cut 8ft section for these frames. I just got mine yesterday for $25. Its two sided, white or a "maple" pattern. I don't have the back splash but i don't have to put plywood to support it. Got it all for about $100, with the 11% rebate that they run sometimes it the cost would drop close to $90.

      Kitchen countertop is the only way to go and super durable. Key is simply a strong frame under it and the laminated plywood under it as in the video.. also mounting the backslash to the wall studs and you're good to go... look at my current videos today. This video was what? 4 years ago?

  • @benharmon7136
    @benharmon7136 6 лет назад +2

    This thing is flimsy as hell!
    Only support on the front is the far ends so the middle is weak as hell. If you would have bolted the kitchen counter to the wall and put 3 4x4's on the front you'd have a stronger bench that this.
    Not really sure how Menards calls this extreme!
    Think about this, the extreme bench weighs 44lbs total... I have presses that probably weigh about that lol
    Not recommended. This is my 4th bench and Im going to make some serious mods to this to make it up to standards.

    • @ElfstersRiflesandReloading
      @ElfstersRiflesandReloading  6 лет назад

      Did you screw 3/4 laminated plywood to the 3/4” countertop? Then screw thru the bench metal laterals into 1-1/2” of total top with pole barn screws ? I have the top screwed to the wall studs as per the video... guess I’m not following ya as mine is very strong and have had numerous people make the same bench with good feedback. You’re the first person to say they have had any issues. Did you watch the whole video before you made it? Sorry it didn’t work out for ya if ya did but you’re the first person to have any issues and I’ve been using mine for years, in all my videos with obviously no issues.

    • @ElfstersRiflesandReloading
      @ElfstersRiflesandReloading  6 лет назад +1

      Just a suggestion if ya want it even stronger. As mentioned in the video the top backsplash is lag screwed into the wall studs so the back doesn’t need support. Just run a 2x4 on edge across the entire front of the bench (just under the top bullnose) from corner to corner and screw that into the metal horizontal lateral frame and bench top... if that doesn’t make this bench strong enough along with everything else in the video, then I’m not sure what to tell ya friend.

    So, one question, i'm not putting my reloading bench in a place that has 2x4's, my walls are concrete (basement).. what would be a good way to attach it to the wall? I was thinking maybe a 2x4 or something, and running some tapcon screws into the 2x4, then running the screws you used into the 2x4, or should i just run the tapcons straight through the countertop into the concrete?
    also looks like right now the laminate counter tops are about double price (even the one directly from home depot you have shown). also sucks I don't have a local menards. all in all, it'll probably cost me a bit over 200$ (frame is 100$ shipped, counter top around 87$, and 20$ for the wood/screws) still a pretty good deal for an 8 foot bench.

      @@ElfstersRiflesandReloading Thank you for the response. Unfortunately my location is against a foundation brick wall so mounting the bench to the wall will be much more of a challenge as that the standard Tapcon style fasteners have never been totally install reliable for me in the past, not to mention the negative of making holes in the brick in the event I relocate my workstation area in the future. Regardless this might be the only option for me to try as that wall mounting the configuration seems like the only option for rock solid performance. Also...I tried to locate the actual premade metal config and was unable too from any resources online. If you happen to know if this is still made and available from somewhere and can post it would be highly appreciated. Thanks again for all your help and a great video of your build - The prefabbed Formica top idea alone I think is the best and most useful way to go hands down.

    Agreed on the bench top material. I was given an 8' counter top for free (unused) - figured the price was right. Sad part, it's as black as coal - ughhhhh!!! and it is slightly textured - ughhhhh! again. Also received 2 nice oak cabinets underneath for storage. After seeing this, I am going to rebuild my bench with a lighter countertop. I have cinder block walls so lagging to it yields additional work. Thanks again!! Doug

    • @ElfstersRiflesandReloading
      @ElfstersRiflesandReloading  7 лет назад +2

      +nick parimuha 100% needs to be fused to wall especially when running the ram on the press like seating primers and such. Just level the bench, push up against concrete, drill holes in backsplash and frame as in video and where the pilot hole drill leaves a mark take a hammer drill with a carbide drill bit with a concrete anchor bolt right into the foundation. Easy as that if you have a friend with a hammer drill. Most foundations are 8" thick. Maybe drill 2.5" holes with at least 2" embedment of anchor into concrete. Blow
      Out concrete dust after drilling holes. I'd just do two holes backsplash and two holes for frame.

      @ElfstersRiflesandReloading  5 лет назад

      Mine is great and 100% level and has been for years, even after moving it to a different house as in my videos. Did you glue and screw the 3/4 plywood to the the countertop, screw the bench to the countertop, and fasten the bench/top to the wall just like in the video? If the backsplash of the top is screwed to the wall, where can it go? Any reloading bench really needs to be fastened to the wall so the bench doesn’t move when applying large amounts of pressure to the bench through your press handle as for example seating primers, and especially so the bench doesn’t move and powder spills out of your cases when reloading because your bench isn’t fastened to the wall. Unless your bench weight is in excess of a ton, literally...
