    In '86 they didn't have the 2 inlet air openings in the hood... the hood is off an '87-88 turbo coupe model because those had an intercooler that the hood connects right to it for more air to enter and the spoiler on the back wasn't standard that has to be an add on by whoever owned the car aftermarket it wasn't an option

    I had one. Good car. I just bought an 86 Elan with 19600 miles on it in perfect shape. It had been in storage since 1991.

      The hood ducting is for the intercooler that Ford added on the 87' TC just like the SVO mustang came with.

    my ex had a 87 back then, in dark red.. while i had just got a 87 IROC. i remember her turbo having a pretty decent sound system, had JBLs from the factory. i never been a Ford fan, but it was nice for going out of town, road trips. she kept it till 89 and got a Turbo Anv TA , that was more like it! anyway, nice 86!

      To bad GM's quality was crap by then. I had an aero Monte Carlo back then and NOTHING worked on that car by the time it had 60,000 mi., 2 sets of air injection tubes and it still had exhaust leaks, the CC cable rubbed through the AC line. The wipers went nuts and turned on the washers, whenever. The trans went out. Bought a 1988 Turbo Coupe which still sits in my barn with 267,000 miles. I had lots of GM until then.

    To explain the hood... That's an 87-88 hood. The 86 did not come with that hood. I put the same style hood on my 86, back in 89.

    • @elizabethcherry920
      @elizabethcherry920 3 года назад +2

      On 87-88 models those ducts was used for the intercooler. The hood threw me off when he said it was an 86, I knew the turbo was available, but it did not have the hood ducts or the intercooler. In 87 the Turbo coupe w/ intercooler was its own pkg

  • @marksmusicplace3627
    @marksmusicplace3627 3 года назад +2

    the hood is for the 87 and 88 t bird turbos that came with the intercooler. it fed air to the intercooler. Maybe the owner was going to add the intercooler at one time and never got around to it. this was the one of the downfalls of the 86 t birds . I had a 86 t bird turbo 5 speed and had so many problems with it. I love the body style but it had its issues.

    I wanted to buy one of those when they came out. Took one for a test drive and didn't even make it out of the lot.
    I'm 6'4" or 5ish and my knees were knocking the steering wheel. No matter how I adjusted anything, I couldn't get my knees out of they way. Shame, I really had a hard on for that thing.
    Thanks for the knobby knee memories. LoL

    The air ducts go to that opening to cool the intercooler for the turbo.
    came stock with a top mount intercooler and sat under that opening.

  • @elizabethcherry920

    The wheels are certainly the same as a GT Mustang, if this was a true 87 Turbo coupe it would have other Mustang GT parts, ie the front suspension. The Thunderbird during these years was based on the fox body. Nice to see this generation on Thunderbirds are becoming collectible and saved

    Wonder why the trunk badges have been swapped around? Turbo Coupe goes on driver side. Although I always thought they should’ve been the way these are on this car so it would read Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. But I digress. Thunderbird emblem is on passenger side.
