The thing I dislike about Clara is that her story makes her so much glorified and is given so much importance as the girl who saves the Doctor.
I think that really undermines the little and big things that all the other companions have done for the Doctor, like Rose saving the Doctor as Bad Wolf, Martha bringing back the Doctor, Donna giving the Doctor hope after Rose is gone, Amy and Rory being a family to him.
It is a shame and Moffat ruined Capaldi's time by pulling his character to the background while Clara gets the limelight. And guess which is Capaldi's best episode? Heaven Sent! When Clara isn't even there!
(Sorry for the rant, peace out)

Neha The Jedi The fact Capaldi's best episode didn't have Clara in a main role means nothing. Some argue Blink is the best Tennant episode, doesn't mean 10 is a terrible Doctor that the show was better without. Same with Martha.

I really liked Clara for most of those reasons. I thought it fit in with the recent companions whose lives have been more focused on. Hers just was different, she was more of a time travel junkie. I love the touches they threw in, like putting her name first in the credits. She wasn't Mel or Teigan or a screamer. Now mind you most people seem to love Donna and I couldn't handle her. Probably cause I was watching them when they came out on dvd at that point and knew Donna was the new companion before I saw.
That said I respect your opinion. Its a matter of taste and for me Clara first!!

Fun Fact - After Eccleston refused to be in The Day of the Doctor, Moffat got upset and wrote a draft of The Day of the Doctor WITHOUT the Doctor, but just Clara fantasising about who the Doctor really is. Oh my god, how awful that would have been? Eg, *The Day of Clara*

It already IS Day of Clara. Literally the three Doctors together are so stupid that they plan to wipe out the Timelords until Clara says "You're better than this." and then they decide to think of a plan which doesn't involve genocide. Total fucking character ruining madness for THREE Doctors who are planning to kill their entire species because they didn't think hard enough until Clara told them to.

    • @lapelcelery42
      @lapelcelery42 3 года назад +2

This was never more explicit than in Day of the Doctor, when the conclusion is this:
      1. The Doctor realises the only possible hope in the time war is to destroy the Timelords, and spends the whole episode preparing to do the unpleasant but necessary thing.
      2. When the moment comes, Clara says "No, you're better than this. There must be another way".
      3. The Doctor goes "Oh, you're right. Better do something else."
It's so fucking stupid that in order to make Clara seem important to this plot, Moffat had to make THREE DOCTORS so dense that they were planning on wiping out their entire race because it hadn't occurred to them to think harder.

Tbh; Clara and Amy were the ones I most disliked. At the start when we first saw Amy as a seven year old child, I actually thought she was decent. But after finding out how she turned out; this way too flirty and mean person, I couldn't stand her anymore. Not only was she constantly flirting with the doctor even though she was engaged and later on even married, but also that she treated the actually pretty likeable Rowry so bad...
And yeah, Clara was kinda just shoved down our throats, she's that Mary sue-Character you get in nearly every series. She was pretty boring and annoying not only because of her lack of personality and character development, but also because of her attitude...
    Sry for bad english btw

  • @natalieybarra5207

I did like Clara in the beginning with the 11th doctor because i was caught up in the mystery of who this person is and why she isn't dying. But when 11 turned into 12 and she didn't want to Travel with him, because he was old, was when I started to hate her character.i hated her for exactly all the reasons you give. so from the beginning of the 12th doctor's regeneration you knew she didn't even want to be there. Then when she betrayed him and threatened him, that was the last straw. She was the epitome of a shitty friend.

    • @puppycatsbee
      @puppycatsbee 3 года назад +1

actually, she was the epitome of "good people do bad things." her friendship with 12 was actually very realistic. it had a rocky start, and was imperfect, but stood strong on a foundation of unconditional love.
and the real reason for her confused and sceptical attitude towards the doctor in deep breath is because she expected his new face to look, well, new. she made it clear that it's not because he doesn't look young anymore. she's not someone who cares about outward appearances. she missed 11 dearly and was attached to him, that much is true, but realised that the doctor is still the same person on the inside.
also, in her defence, the doctor was acting very differently in series 8. it's like she had to get used to a whole new person. but once she truly understood him, they were able to reach a place of stability and mutual respect.

The character is introduced as a boy genius from the year 2012 who attracts the attention of the Doctor's traveling companion Rose (played by Billie Piper) after she and the Doctor (No. 9, played by Christopher Eccleston) meet him in his place of work. Despite Rose's willingness to accept Adam as a fellow traveller, the Doctor is skeptical. After Adam attempts to use information from the future for his own gain, the Doctor throws Adam out of his time machine, the TARDIS. This was the first example of the Doctor forcing a companion to leave because of negative behaviour.

Then it becomes the single most important thing in the show. nthe season 8 specials moffatt actually stated the companions were more important than the doctor, the companions were the voice of the audience. NO THEY ARE NOT!!!!! the companions are children next to the doctor, they do keep him grounded so he doesnt go off in a rant, but you have to remember he is not human, he doesnt think like a human, why would he. One of the things I most despised about her, into the daleks 12th says theres no such thing as a good dalek, and IT says thats a bit bigoted isnt it, that not like you. This is the man who just spent 1000 years on Trezalore, and died blowing up a dalek fleet (again) did IT forget the doctors trauma? The name of the Doctor: Shes now the impossible girl that has met/helped all of the incarnations of the Doctor.
The Day of the Doctor to the Witches Familiar: All of a sudden she's a school teacher at Coal Hill without an explanation of how they got out of The Doctor's timestream. WTF?!
Also I agree with what you said about her character in Deep Breath. If Clara has met/helped all of the Doctors incarnations, how the fuck was she not used to having the 11th Doctor change into the 12th Doctor?
    like seriously, Moffat?!

The phone call in Capaldi's first episode after regenerating was FOR THE AUDIENCE, not for Clara. Moffatt even said so. It was to help ease the audience, who was used to watching young Doctors, into the older Doctor, Capaldi- assuring them that it was the same character, with a different face.

I really liked Clara. Like her character did develop from 11th to 12th like 11 was acting like her boyfriend which is solidified by 12 in Deep Breath, so Clara moved on accepted the change and got with Danny (who I did think was a bit dull) but her and the doctor clearly did love eachother which 12 was about to say before her death in Face the Raven and I adored her in series 9 like The Doctor was the only thing she was living for really because Danny was dead so she just went all in and I just liked how they had that deep love for eachother because they know everything about eachother.

I have issues with multiple characters from Doctor Who. Amy was a selfish bitch for most of season 5, Rose could be annoyingly clingy and jealous, Bill's homosexuality was pushed to the forefront of her plot (though this is more the writers' fault), Donna could be quite vapid, Martha was a bit of a know-it-all, etc. Personally, I believe Clara was the worst companion of New Who (I can't judge Classic Who as I have not been able to see the series yet). This belief stems from her multiple mistakes, which she refused to learn from, her overreaction to Danny Pink's death, her selfishness, and her overall ignorance when it came to the Doctor and his role in the universe.
I've noticed people saying Rose was the worst companion, and though they me a few good points, I have to disagree. Rose was a compelling character who brought in many new fans to the Doctor Who Universe. She was incredibly human, she made mistakes, could be extremely jealous, and was fickle when it came to Mickey. On the last point, I think it's important to note that we do not choose who we fall in and out of love with, and so I believe people cannot fault Rose for leaving Mickey for the Doctor. People seem to forget that Rose was created as very human, but very good. She was heroic in an understated way, and acted exactly as one would expect her to. Overall, I think Rose's character was a very good companion to the Doctor. She was exactly what he needed her to be, someone he could teach and show the wonders of the universe to while healing him from the horrors of his past.

People also seem to forget that Mickey was an ass to Rose in the very first episode by wanting to take her to a pub but only because there was a game on the TV. He wanted to be with Rose because of how it made him look. Then the Rose-haters want to complain about how she was so mean to him. She treated him exactly how he deserved to be treated.

It's the overly peppy, feminist Mary Sue character Clara Oswald, by a large distance. Martha was bad, like Clara lacking any identifiabe character traits and not especially well acted, but at least she didn't last too long, and the entire show did not revolve around her character. Clara, on the other hand, kept on returning like a bad rash. And Tegan was really annoying also, but only during her 'air hostess' phase. She was a decent companion when she returned. Clara was essentially Who's answer to Rey from the latest Star Wars films. It's as if she was completely created by a non classic Who watching SJW committee, and that's more or less the truth of it.

I actually really like Adric. I agree about the poor acting, but as a character, he has a lot of merit, especially with Tom Baker. Also, I don't despise Mel.
As for my three least favorite companions:
    3. Rose Tyler. She's okay in season one. She's not great, but at least she's a friend to the Doctor. In Season 2 however, she takes a turn for the worst. She becomes so shallow and rude, flirting with every guy she meets, but getting mad when the Doctor so much as looks at another girl.
    2. Amy Pond. She treats Rory like a second thought, and not just in Season 5. She talks down to him, ignores him, and places the Doctor above him in her priorities. When they get sent to the past, I felt bad that Rory was stuck with her for the rest of his life.
    1. Clara Oswald. Like the video says, she has no real personality. She's just boring, and all of her fake departures got old. She has the nerve to threaten the Doctor, even though he's the only person who has been a constant paternal figure in her life.

    • @DsRelaxingSounds

Rose flirted with every guy she meets? Can you give some examples, because I did not see that at all... she was obviously always into the Doctor. And she had feelings for Mickey to a degree, although nothing like what she felt for the Doctor. There was the one episode where she had a flirty moment with Captain Jack Harkness, but that was season 1 with Nine, and also who doesn't have a flirty moment with Jack.

    • @Alexander-nb1fg
      @Alexander-nb1fg 5 лет назад +2

Pre-Clara I thought it was a joint between Amy and post-silence in the library River Song. I hated their obnoxious flirtatiousness and how the overarching plot(s) relied on them so much.
When Series 7 Part 2 rolled around, Clara pissed me off so much that she became my least favourite. Why did moffat think we cared about her arc more than the Doctor's? It really felt like Doctor Who had become The Clara Show ft. The Doctor.
If only Moffat had made amazing characters like RTD could, most of his crap episodes would've been bearable.

When he does include or should I say rant about a Matt Smith episode, it's a series 7 one so he can blame Clara. This guy is biased. • @lizdevine2525

It's got to be Clara, I was really hopping I'd like her going into the back half of season 7 (especially after Amy and Rory sort of had to be yanked out of the show) and Jenna tried her friggin heart out to bring something to the character but she was just an empty shell after Name of the Doctor. Which would have been fine if they used that as an exit point for her character but then they tried to give her more screen time then the title character. Season 8 was such a mess that I flat out quit watching for 3 years. I didn't even have that much of an opinion on 12 until I when back and skipped through season 9 and actually got to enjoy Capaldi's performance. I'm not going to berate anyone for liking her, Jenna Coleman is genuinely likeable, but when in every episode the writer has to back-burner the story to remind you that Clara Oswald is the greatest thing since ice cream there's a big problem.

I've only seen New Who but my vote is Clara. Starting with the fact she was so bad the show retconned her entire fucking existence
Other than that her entire role was to best the Doctor. Nearly every episode; something would happen, the Doctor would do something either ineffective or not enough and Clara would save the day. (Ahkaten anyone? The Doctor gave everything but Claras leaf was the answer? First off was the Old God a weeping angel that fed off of potential energy? And How did Claras mum die that she would leave so many days that should have been?)
Clara entering the timestream; should've killed her as EVERYONE said it would, plus the Doctor entering his own life is so far beyond paradox it's ridiculous (what ever happened to reapers??) Plus her doing all these things in the timestream when honestly she should have just canceled out the GI not interfereing. And how come Dalek!Clara and Snowmen ep Clara didnt recognize the Doctor when her other seleves did? And Clara picked the TARDIS? That negates all of "The Doctor's Wife" and how would Clara know? Sexy HATES Clara and vice versa so she wouldn't have helped Clara AT ALL
Saving Gallifrey? Or as I like to say Clara cried and Moffat dismissed ALL of New Who history up to this point. All the pain the Doctor went through was for nothing
Its also said a few times that Clara remembers being in the time stream though not specific parts of it, so her treating 12 so horribly was disgusting. "Am I good man" "...." like, this is a whole new thing for the Doctor and this supposed important person just makes him feel worse. And she never comes to terms with the change on screen, she's just suddenly okay after the whole going for chips thing (stolen straight from the Ninth Doctor & Rose BTW)
Then she lies and tried to drug the Doctor and lock him out of the TARDIS and thats okay?! Like, no? Not okay, at all.
Then the whole Hybrid thing where this shitty ass character drives the Doctor to do something thats not really explained but overall stupid, for a character that every in show person liked, good and bad guys alike??? Than she somehow gets to travel in a telepathic time machine in a disgusting mirror of the Doctors start. Traveling with a stupid ass stranger as well but thats a different rant. Hybrid is one being not two.
I could go on but I think this is long enough for one youtube comment

Martha was the worst, she spent all season trying the make the Doctor love her, kept on with the "good for Rose" under her breathes and its her fault the Master came back. She made Yana aware of the pocket watch, so those spheres and the 1/10th of the people her murdered - thats on Martha. He arch was being a female black doctor and constantly flashing her front teeth (with three episodes including racism at her Family of blood two parter and the Daleks take manhatten)
Second to worst is Bill. Just because she is written so badly. Every adventure. "Im black" or "im a lesbian" comments. We get it, you dont need to remind us. "Oh i didnt say that because your blue, im not a racist, usually im on the receiving end of racism." Other than her being gay and black, and having no mum, she had no character arc. Her arc (if you wanna call it that was meeting a girl and then that girl becomes a alien pilot and vanishes, then she travels with the Doctor reminding him every week she is black and gay until finally becoming a cyberman and then crying her apparent girlfriends tears who she had like zero chemistry with, and the two run away together, the issue with that is the Pilot was about not running with her. Then 13 episodes later she is like "psych im going because we're apparently in love bye!")

I disliked Rose for basically the same reason I dislike Clara, the fact that their writers wanted their characters to be THE MOST IMPORTANT COMPANION IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE. Instead of concentrating on writing good stories, they tried to leave a mark by creating the ultimate companion, the only one the Doctor actually loved and would do anything for etc.
But still, leaving her mother for a year was the Doctor’s (or the TARDIS) fault, not hers. Everything else she ever did irked me to no end, though.

Clara is the worst, for one thing, the impossible girl , became more important than the Doctor. yeah mel sucked too. Rose, Martha and Donna were good.

Ian and Barbara were more important than the Doctor, those who fixed the things he messed up. And they are some of the best companions ever. And with a look to Super-Doctor Tennant, this way it is a lot better.

In my opinion CLARA is the worst companion ever . She is too important and too powerful for no reason that I can see . she completely destroys Rings of Akhatten . If the Doctor was allowed to destroy the sun God then it would have been a great endings but Moffat decided Clara's life was worth more even than the Doctor . Even when she died she didn't die she came back to annoy us , she was so obnoxious and before anyone says that I just want companions meek and mild , my top companion is Ace who was far from meek and mild .
My 2nd least favorite companion is ROSE . This is because where the importance of the companion came from , and the first time the Doctor had a romance with his companion which he should never do in my opinion . Imagine Colin Baker having a relationship with Peri WRONG!
MY 3RD least favorite companion I would say is Martha firstly because she had the romance storyline which I hate . But also because she was a pretty nothing character , even the 60's companions who were just screaming girls were right for the time and complimented the Doctor , this new idea of importance of companions I feel goes against the importance of the Doctor . Also before u say I just hate new who companions . I loved Amy Pond , also Donna Noble was a great contrast and funny too . Bill was even quite good even though she was a bit too P.C but yeah Clara is the worst

I personally hated Martha the most out of all the companions, although loyal to the Doctor, she was annoying as hell. I enjoyed Capaldi's Doctor and Clara together because I think they had fantastic chemistry and companionship.

I only saw one episode with Clara, but I did find her very annoying. She slapped Peter Capaldi in the face, told him to calm down and gave him a lecture. I didn't like either of Peter Davidson's companions Tegan and Nyssa. They were so bland, I had to look up their names. They were better than that robot fellow, Kamelion. I had forgotten about him altogether.
