"I don't think he is as stupid as he seems."
"My dear, NO ONE is as stupid as HE seems."
Absolutely hilarious. (not to mention, you aren't entirely sure if he is simply mocking the Doctor, or if he is - more likely - calling him out. Saying 'I know what you are doing & you are not going to fool me.')

I just wrote some of the same ones. Ambassadors Of Death got bad reviews but I like that one, it didn't make my top 10. Ribos Operation was really good and one of the best ever in my opinion. Caves Of Androzani, Earthshock, Remembrance Of The Daleks, Keeper Of Traken and the Sea Devils don't make my list. Inferno and Seeds of Doom may be my all time favs. .

If The Daleks' Masterplan wasn't mostly lost, it would be VERY high on this list. 12 parts, but oh so worth it.
P.S. My favourite Hartnell speech/scene is at the end of the otherwise meh story of the Massacre of St. Bartholomew's Eve. It takes "heartbreaking" to a whole new level.

    10. An Unearthly Child.
    9. Inferno
    8. Doctor Who and the Silurians
    7. The Planet of Evil.
    6. Kinda
    5. The Web of Fear
    4. Genesis of the Daleks
    3. The Invasion

  • @UseOfWeapons

    Oh man. Some great choices.
An episode of The Sea Devils was the first ever one I saw in colour (on my grandparents brand new colour TV). I still remember that and it was 45 years ago and I was 4. Made a huge impression on me and has always been a favourite story.
Pyramids of Mars - all time favourite.
Genesis of the Daleks - unforgettable.
Also agree about Season 13. Terror of the Zygons had just aired when my family visited Blackpool. Highlight of the visit was the Dr. Who exhibition. They had some Zygon exhibits, which was just awesome.
My two favourite Doctors are also Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee. Always assumed that was because I'm an old fart now.
I must go and watch some of these again.

    • @UnchainedEruption
      @UnchainedEruption 6 лет назад

I definitely agree. The Jon Pertwee era, at least at its height in Seasons 7, 8, and 9, was imo not only by far the best era of Doctor Who, but it is arguably also the greatest television ever made, particularly with stories such as Inferno, The Silurians, Curse of Peladon, The Sea-Devils, The Daemons, The Time Monster, etc. (and I say this as someone who got hooked on Doctor Who by starting with the new/reboot show only 4 years ago (which still feels like a long time to me))

  • @Nchubbz

My Top 10. These are my 'go to' episodes, or episodes I recommended fans of the newer show to watch if they were interested in older Doctor Who:
    1. Inferno - A brilliant 7 parter with some great nods to Orwell, and yes, even though the fully transformed Primords look a little like low budget green wolf-men with pillows stuffed up their backs, the concept still terrifies me and I want to see the adventure at Krakatoa.
    2. Resurrection of the Daleks - Creepy, disgusting, morbid, dark and ultimately depressing. Tegans' last words resonated so much with me and really summed up the mood of the episode in a great way. And, much like 'Adronzani', no one wins.
    3. Spearhead from Space - Childhood trauma episode. I will never forget the Auton rampage, and honestly this is the most professional looking Doctor Who episode ever. Very well done and sets up the 'Doctor on Earth' dynamic really well.
    4. Attack of the Cybermen - Telos, Ice Tombs, Sewers, Mind Control, Lytton dying. This is an episode I can go back to again and again and again and enjoy without every regretting putting in the DVD. Well paced, with some great cyber fighting, and an interesting gap filler in the Cyberman mythos.
    5. The Ark in Space - Green bubble wrap aside, another good, dark story which uses the doomed 'humanity in cryo-sleep' plot really well. The Wirrn too are a creepy villain, and the transformation, while goofy looking, is pretty creepy.
    6. The Curse of Fenric - Vampires scared me as a kid, and this added to that fear. Another creepy one, using Gothic imagery, and some great visual and make-up effects, plus Ace's conflict over her mother is really impactful.
    7. The Green Death - Hippies and the Military have to team up to stop giant insects created by an evil corporation controlled by a giant megalomaniac AI super computer. Barmy as all hell, but so much fun and a touching end to Jo's character.
    8. The Horror of Fang Rock - Doctor Who goes Gothic again and it really works. Creepy, with a mix of 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' and 'The Blob' with some great world building moments with the Rutan and the Sontaran war.
    9. Remembrance of the Daleks - Great fun. The Dalek battles, Davros is back, the Doctor revisits where it all began and Ace kicks arse and takes names. Just a fun episode with a great scope and a real gem of 80's Doctor Who.
    10. The Daleks - My dad asked me what Doctor Who VHS I wanted from HMV when I was a boy, probably only about 8 or 9 years old. I immediately saw the cover and pointed to The Daleks. It was the first old B&W Who I'd ever watched and it impacted me so much I wanted to know more about the show. This is the one that got me into Doctor Who as a fully fledged fan. Eerie, well realised and a hallmark of what was to come. Fantastic stuff.

I couldn't tell whether or not you dubbed his voice over the video or not for a few moments there! Absolutely wonderful! You've pointed out a few key things that have given me an idea for a serious Doctor Who story in which I shall endeavor to write. I do look forward to watching more of your videos on Doctor Who! There's that and people saying that the Daleks aren't like the Daleks that we've seen before which again, it's the beginning. Why would they be the same? It's on the DVD extras of some of the classic Dalek stories and in reviews I've read.

I saw the The Invasion and Tomb of the Cybermen when they released them on video. These videos were always hard to find, than I found them at Sun Coast video in the early to mid 90ties. I used to tape these on Betamax from PBS. My friends thought I was nuts for watching this show. In 85, I made my dad take me to the DW convention were we watched a private screening of Attack of the Cybermen and Mark of the Rani. My dad was a football player he couldn't believe was hanging out with all these crazies. So I met JNT and Colin Baker at this event and got autographs.

Wisher's Davros was utterly phenomenal. Everyone that's followed has inevitably descended into the foaming, ranting megalomaniacal trope but Wisher's Davros was a stone cold goddamn psychopath. Utterly, chillingly, monstrously *sane* and controlled.

I loved the Tomb of Rassilon, the chance to see a number of Doctors together in a story is great. Unfortunately, Tom Baker got stuck in some Time vortex Void. But with Richard hurndall, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Pete Davidson. On top of this, you had the Master, the high council of the Time Lords, the appearance of the Cyber Men. It just so good a production, I feel!

I can't really bring myself to do a best 10 overall, so I'll just do my favourites for each Doctor from the classic era:
    1) The Gunfighters - This story is here just for its pure camp value. It never fails to make me laugh, and I find that the way that it tells its story though song is quite a novel idea
    2) Power of the Daleks - Dark, brooding and mysterious. 'nuff said
    3) The Sea Devils - This is the Third Doctor era in a nutshell; the Master, the UNIT team, everything is on form for one of my favourite stories ever made
    4) The Talons of Weng-Chiang - Sure some elements are a little bit questionable now, but in terms of atmosphere, writing and acting, this is quite possibly the best. Aside from the giant rat...
    5) Snakedance - Maybe a bit controversial to some, but this is mainly because this was my first Doctor Who story, ever. It may look a little garish, but it is the script and the performances that sell it.
    6) Vengeance on Varos - No question really. The Sixth Doctor is my personal favourite of the incarnations, and Colin gives it his all amid the dodgy sets and subpar direction, but it is as you said, all down to the script
    7) Ghost Light - Confusing, baffling but fantastic. Nearly everything came to light here (pun intended), and was just one of the reasons why season 26 is one of the best (not Battlefield, definitely not Battlefield...)

Psyche M $100?! Do you not just have them in most DVD shops? That's weird. In the UK we do and except for box sets, all of the classic stuff is £10 or less. An alternative is to try find it to watch online, I've found a few websites where you can stream it so just Google it and you should find it.

    • @philadelphiawhovian5641

most dvd shops don't have them, and if they do, they are still expensive. amazon is the cheapest place to buy them, and seeing a good episode for 100$ is not uncommon at all. yes, I have watched some episodes online, but I want to buy them instead, so that I can watch them in better quality. what's even more annoying is that below our prices, we see the price it would be in the uk. nothing more annoying than wanting to buy the ambassadors of death, its almost 200$, and then u see that in the UK its like 9 pounds.

Philadelphia Whovian Hey there! The ridiculous cost of US Doctor Who DVDs is why I bought a region-free DVD player for about $30. I get my DVDs from the UK, and even with shipping, they're many times cheaper than the ones here. In addition to new DVDs, I've also bought a few used ones through Amazon.co.uk third-party sellers, and they've all been great, like new, and always arriving much faster than originally estimated. Another option would be to subscribe to Britbox, which is about $8/month, and which has almost all of the extant Classic series (there are a few Dalek stories that they don't have). It's available as a Roku channel and an Android app, and I'm pretty sure that you can also stream it via the web.

It's a US exclusive that includes a 9th/10th doctor sonic screwdriver, a two disc dalek collection featuring Dalek, The Stolen Earth/ Journey's End, Asylum of the Daleks, and Into the Dalek along with Genesis of the Daleks as a bonus feature, and it has a two disc cyberman collection which includes Army of Ghosts/Doomsday, Closing Time, Nightmare in Silver, and Dark Water/Death in Heaven with Earthshock as a bonus feature. The whole set is, as I got it, only $25! I can't recommend it enough

Oh my god Nyder is the best!
Having seen Genesis before The Silurians, 2 stories I both love and could rewatch over and over again, i must say it's a weird unsettling feel seeing Peter Miles in the silurians, you just wanna scream at 3, "ey dat's Ny...Oh oh wait!" ^^' Fantastic character, 1 of my fav in all of Doctor Who.
I'm not _as big_ of a 5th Doctor Fan, him being all \*too* 'human' & me loving that weird/grimm side of the doctor, 4/Tom Baker being my all time fav...
Still caves deseves to be on here.
The rest I can also agree on! Vengeance on Varos is an absoloute master piece (in midst of that weird mixed bag that is the 6th doctor era) & you picked 1 of my fav Hartnell speeches, too! \*,*
Having seen Cat trap (the doc on Survival) & therefor knowing just _HOW good_ this story AND S27 could've been if it wasn't for JNT & Michael F'N Grade, I can't really blame them for the not _that_ good cheetah costumes etc...
Anyways I miss Remembrance of the Daleks!
Also favs of mine (that might _almost_ make the list) that I think are really underrated are e.g.
    - Terror of the Zygons, with its beautiful oudoor shots & Baker at its best!
It sorta feels like a 3rd & 4th doctor story mixed into one with best of both worlds, focussing on the amazing chemistry between a fantatsic doc & really good companions but also havin some hilarious sFx with the pizza computer even Tom Baker made fun of in the bonus features & the almost "Invasion of the dinosaurs"-ish Nessie. :'D
    - The five doctors! While It couldve done more with its elements, especially the brig,
it still just is sooooo damn rewatchable & having the Brigadier punch the Ainley incarnation of the Master with that line delivered is just pure joy! Plus it features 4 incarnations of this madman arguing with eachother in wonderful wonderful childish ways, it brings tears of joy to my face of laughing out loud.
    Cool video! Keep it up!

For me, your top 3 is my top 3. I love City of Death, I think I know it off by heart (the script that is), Genesis of the Daleks has that whole "if I kill the Daleks" thing and the quip about ending up with bows and arrows features in The Magicians Apprentice but Androzani has everything, drugs smugglers, arms dealers, bent politicians and a maniacal villain in the middle orchestrating it all . Then the Doctor and Peri just stumble into the middle of it all and are just victims throughout the whole thing which ends in Davison regenerating and Peri being saved and then wondering what the hell is going on as the bloke she just met in the previous story changes in front of her. It's totally mind blowing.
Survival, Dalek Invasion and Androzani also have the most emotional endings. I always end up in tears at the end of Survival because I remember it the first time around when I was 19 and having heard the news that it wasn't coming back, it was soul destroying to think that a programme that I'd watched since Deadly Assassin in 1976 wasn't coming back. I only ever missed 2 episodes out of the whole of that time too. Dalek Invasion where he says goodbye to Susan is very tearjerking too, reminds me of people who I've worked with who just kind of leave and it's always a git because you enjoyed working with them.

Love Caves of Androzani, it's possibly the very best classic Dr Who ever. However, I very rarely watch it because it's the last story for MY Doctor, and it still makes me sad! The first Doctor I remember was Tom Baker, but Peter Davison was MY Doctor.

I always say, if you haven't seen "Genesis of the Daleks" you're not a Whovian.
The only problem I had with "City of Death", one of my favourites, is the death scene of professor Kerensky . That was sooooo cheesy. If not for that, the story is perfection.

‘The Caves of Androzani’, oh my god... I watched that full story one day and here’s how it went... Part one, I was feeling it was a bit slow, but I liked the situation they were put in... by the time Part Four starts, it’s just a wild mad dash to the end with the Doctor about to regenerate, Peri about to die, a drug war going on with soldiers chasing the Doctor, and a f***ing planet about to explode! 'The Invasion' may be the single best Sci fi episode of the 1960's Dr. It fits so well with RTD's portrayal Dr Who and as you say shows you the 70's in black and White and then 'War Games' show us along with the lost 'Destiny of the Daleks' why Troughton is the first modern doctor even though it took most of his career to get right. His first and then later stories ('The Icemen' too) are for adults and intelligent teenagers (rather than just little kids as the Tory 'moralists' stated), a moral seriousness and serious thinking as intended by Verity Lambert from the start all WHILE entertaining and enthralling! 'Genesis Of the Daleks' is along with "Dalek' and the first 'The Daleks' these villains most gripping versions.

I can't agree more with the caves of Androzani, best. classic story. EVER!!!
People often hate me for saying that the 80s had many of the best episodes of doctor who in general, but the caves of Androzani is a prime example of that. I also really like a lot of Colin Baker stories, I mean, they really weren't that bad, especially the two doctors, but it's just a shame that Colin Baker's doctor was the worst.

  • @josephcooke3899

Take out The Sea Devils and put in Inferno. Take out The Invasion (even if it is brilliant and put in either The Enemy of the World; or The War Games). Survival is good, but I’d go for Ghost Light (which is probably McCoy’s finest hour - his incarnation’s darker moments are where McCoy really shines). I’m not going to quibble with Genesis of the Daleks or The Caves of Androzani.

  • @timothyweers8054

I think The Caves Of Androzani is an episode that is near number one, and for the regeneration hold off in part 3 if he did regenerate he may not remember where Peri was or is or who he was for that matter. I think the most enjoyable story was from the William Hartnell era was The Chase after the Doctor obtained the sonoscope and was playing around with it, the Daleks found a means of time and space travel and were chasing the travelers throughout time finding a place to battle.

I believe when the Doctor and Jo went to visit the Master in jail in The Sea Devils it was because the Doctor was hoping he could convince the Master to give up the location of his TARDIS so the Doctor could use it to escape Earth. You wouldn't put Inferno ahead of The Sea Devils, though? Incidentally, the bits in The Caves of Androzani where Morgus delivers theatrical aside to the camera were a result of John Normington misunderstanding the directions in the script, but they liked the effect because it gave it an old-school pantomime feel so they left it in ("The spineless cretins!").
