Ha, I recorded this on HBO, and they had other tributes for the Monkees, Queen, and Judas Priest. I have it on VHS (!) somewhere and used to watch the hell out of it. Can't quite remember it's title. It is really classic, so good to see it again. Thanks for posting.
I drove up to Andy's place from Phoenix to Audition for Drums. The thought was for touring as Jimmy Newell had that day gig, and they were about to do the TV Show " Your Big Break ". Andy had a house trailer set up on his Grandfathers ranch. I drove straight thru to get there, setup the next day, played basically the entire set of number. Val Popovic and Jay Harris were also there. Jay actually had Paul Stanley's voice, Andy "WAS" Gene, and Val "WAS" Ace. So were played for several hours, then I tore down and packed up my drums. We then went to Jay' Where he and Andy played video games, We shot the shit about things. I headed back the next day. Never heard the details on why no call back or gigs. Of course then Andy died. I actually have a video somewhere of that audition, but it seems the microphone was damaged during the ride up so it has no sound. I have to dig that out and put it online. I small missing segment of Larger Than Life band history. I am glad I missed out on the replacement Bass Auditions.
A.D.D. alert at 11:24. New potential "Gene" to Jay: "How far are you from Antelope?" Doesn't wait for response and immediately walks away and shouts to camera, "What's up, Hollywood?!"
Val today plays in a incredible tribute Journey Band called Journey Revisited on West Coast as Neal Schon. His band plays some big gigs all over California area. He is actually a incredible guitarist . .
It,s good to make or form a tribute to Kiss, as long as all its members are true fans of Kiss, have the same musical level, and all its members, without exception, have sufficient financial resources to buy their instruments, amplifiers, equipment, costumes and makeup.
Awesome documentary. I have the full version on vhs from recording it off tv years ago. Its this same documentary but includes tributes to Judas priest, Queen and the monkeys. check the full version out if you can.
7:10 mark is the gospel as far as KISS tributes go. So many dudes in these KISS tributes basically lose their identity and become pompous jerks who think they are the KISS tribute police.
The Gene and Peter characters look great, well done. But the Paul character took the whole "pouty lips" thing a little too far....wait...what?...ahhh nevermind.
does anyone know if Larger Than Life still going ? or have any info on them I can't seem to find a whole lot . all the guys were great but Jay's Paul Stanley blew me away he was perfect
Gene and Peter are spot on..Ace..yea..no..and Paul..um... I thought he might have been Aces stand in in Kiss meets the phantom of the park..no.. Gene and Peter..keep looking for your Ace and Paul...
You can just hear the guy auditioning for Gene is not a capable bassist. He’s off tempo, out of synch with the drums and his notes are off. The Paul character is trying to make a valid point to the dude: instead of jumping around and doing the cringey lizard tongue, why don’t you chill and watch the drummer instead- see if you can at least get in time with him.
As for people in tribute bands getting too caught up in it to the point they become egotistical asshats, might want to look at the guy pretending to be Paul lol

The "GENE" is the best I have ever seen. When KISS starts using stand-ins for their 5 final tours,he will be the guy to call.
+D Silva Yes Andy. He was made for it!
too bad he passed away.
@@spacecase7504 13:28 look at this jump. And tell me is this guy in Meth or just batshit crazy? I don't know maybe both.

Yeah! Dudes either on something or has a serious case of A.D.H.D 😂😂
Btw thanks for bringing me back to this gem \m/
You've obviously never seen Spiro Papadatos.

Black Death 1347 the movie is called “Tribute”
they're like "Oh my god, how do we get this guy out of here?"
I was waiting for the classic, "OK, thank you. We have your information and we'll uh….thank you. NEXT"!
The movie is called "Tribute". The producers are Rich Fox and Kris Curry.
"Don't pay attention to details." Says black Paul Stanley....

I really enjoy stuff like this. Good job guys. Rock and roll is fun to watch and play anywhere.
"Gene" is the most solid one.
Until he flipped out...

That guy auditioning for the Gene spot is a freakin' nutbar!
jaybone23 yup odd
Fucking whack ball

The Gene guys in any KISS tribute are always generally the best.
Paul - a black guy in whiteface? Is that racist?
the Gene guy in every tribute band is the fattest one in the band
Livin the Dragon!!!!! Hard work goes into this shit !!!! Labour's of love
I'm impressed with these guys.
Jimmy & Andy look just like Peter & Gene!
xoxo
The Clarences (robert, erin & leslie)
gene looks and sounds on point
That’s the funniest shit ever. I love to do weird spectral shit like that at band auditions!!
i always felt that paul stanley talked like a black guy when he was talkin to the crowd
Black guy? More like a black chick
At first I thought the Gene guy was the dude from Type O Negative.
You guys are great. The star child character isn't working, but its all good.
He looks ligit exactly like Gene that’s insane...
That dude needs to start a Dave Chapelle tribute act!
The Clarences love & support "Larger Than Life"!
A black Paul Stanley. I have officially seen it all now. 😂
The gene simmons is a great gene for a tribute band of kiss
Rock on guys!!! Good luck and keep the dream alive!!!
sad story. poor Andy seemed grounded initially. tragic.
cool to see a black Paul. he was very good
Good thing they didn't hire that bass player because he would've been nothing but trouble.

Who gives a fuck if Paul is played by a black guy! Don't forget Ace's stunt double in Kiss meets the phantom was black! Relax their just having fun!!!
+Ahmed Smith Its not cuz he's black, its because he just has no resemblance in his face to Paul at all, cheeks , lips nose etc.
He looks just like Paul Stanley 😄
He looks like Ace's stunt double from Phantom of The Park
Guitar player won't shut up to let anyone else talk for even a second.
Paul has two different voices....on stage , and any other time. :)
The Clarences love & support Kiss Tribute Documentary!
now I know from where they pulled out Tommy Thayer
How can I get the whole movie? can't find it anywhere!
does anyone know if Larger Than Life still going ? or have any info on them I can't seem to find a whole lot . all the guys were great but Jay's Paul Stanley blew me away he was perfect
Awesome band
Wonder whatever happened to these guys, do they still play?
Gene and Peter are spot on..Ace..yea..no..and Paul..um... I thought he might have been Aces stand in in Kiss meets the phantom of the park..no.. Gene and Peter..keep looking for your Ace and Paul...
😂😂😂😂 spot on
12:33 = how not to audition for a band
The Ace and Paul are horrendous..how did you even get a behind the scene doc? Jesus...no...no...no...

Where is Andy now?
Andy passed away bak in i think 2007.
dead
had no idea he passed
@@patiam1969 😥
Chris Gioridano is the best Paul I've ever seen. he even introduced Sophie on the Kids Cruise a few years back.
kiss kruise
I'm trying to be open minded here... I rarely heard how they sound as a band !!! The Gene guy looks pretty good tho...
wow I remembering watching this doc when it first came out and I always remembered how much of douche that guy was during the audition lol
Jay Jay…. Wellll
11:27 Wtf is this guy on
My favorite part 13:28
Hey look at me I'm a boot lip black guy playing Paul Stanley along with witchy poo playing Ace frehley
So im not exactly clear on what happened at Andy (Gene's) house? So, was he blowing fire, homicidal, closeted pyromaniac?
Patchy is a weirdo 😂🤣
I am sorry but kiss is not the inkspots
these guys should stop doing this for just money, thers more to kiss than that
As for people in tribute bands getting too caught up in it to the point they become egotistical asshats, might want to look at the guy pretending to be Paul lol
The singer likes to pay attention to every detail, except for being a white guy lol
why not writ your OWN music and create your OWN Image/show??
bwahahahaaa, is that Dave Chappelle as Paul?!! hahaa, he's terrible!! they're actually all terrible,.. but got a good laugh out of it.
bad bad bad band
Lol Paul Stanley looks horrible
Identity crisis band.
Wow. They look nothing like kiss. This is just embarrassing.
KISS blows
And yet, HERE YOU ARE. Odd, isn't it?
Nope your mom did
