I don't know why, but I like seeing these dudes joking and messing around before the interview. Paul singing, Gene in the zone with his tongue, Eric smoking his drumsticks, and Vinnie cracking some jokes too, I just like seeing these dudes laid back with the makeup on. Gene's laugh at 5:03 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm a Canadian Recording Artist, and KISS had a huuge impact on my writing style. You probably couldn't overstate their impact on the music scene. One of rock's greatest acts.
I totally agree! 👍 Love them or hate them, no one puts on a more dazzling rock show than these legends! 🤘 Garth Brooks also credits them with being an influence on him
I respect that Paul Stanley wanted 100% every show. I heard he had a doctor freeze his vocal chords, when he blew it out touring, so he could still sing with laryngitis it's just crazy how much he spoke and sang for hours on end
While the original lineup will always be the true KISS lineup, my favorite was when Ace was still there and Eric had just joined. Eric and Ace seemed to mesh well musically and personally plus I like Eric's drumming style over Peter's though Peter is a good musician in his own style. I give credit to Eric and Vinnie for revitalizing the band and molding them to the modern sound rock music was going towards. They were faster and heavier sounding. Plus I appreciate that they had their own personas too, the Ankh Warrior and Fox makeups and outfis were great additions as I never liked the idea how Tommy and Eric S use the Spaceman and Catman makeup when thats not who they are. Short-lived but great additions. Who the best guitarists and drummers are will always be debatable but this was a good lineup for its time.
@@brogan71 And I payed $ 6.85 to see ZZ TOP, REO SPEEDWAGON and a band named TROOPER in 1975 in Norfolk, Virginia . Now that would not even be close to buying a beer .
I paid $13.00 for a ticket to see Santana and was front row,Carlos was in front of me by six feet ,and that was back in 1997. Brian Howe and Jackyl were opening acts.
That's almost double what the tickets were just a few years earlier, so it's very understandable that people of the era, myself included, would complain about that...in the 70s, you could see the show for $7.50...so yeah, that was quite a jump in a time when minimum wage was under $5 an hour...
The live footage that's come out over the last couple of years especially really you can see how much of a leap they took... watch the live sets from the Elder and then the 83 tour supporting creatures???? unbelievable difference in energy from Stanley and Simmons I don't think I've ever heard them admit it but this was the fire-breathing-est version kiss
A nice birthday present!! My favorite formation, because it was with her that I met Kiss. I love, love and love so much. Thank you for sharing this treasure❤️🥰😘😘😘
I agree. As far as originality, Vinnie and Eric's makeup is much cooler than Paul and Gene. Paul should have stuck with the Bandit. Gene's is OK, but not as scary as they want.
Poor Paul and Gene have been telling this same old "Beginnings Of KISS Story" for over 50 years. I've known Paul since 1988. I asked him if it got old. He told me how Elvis was asked if he ever got tired of singing the same songs every time he performed. Elvis said, "Actually, I've been fortunate enough to still love singing That's All Right Mama + Heartbreak Hotel. Otherwise, this would be no fun." Paul said he learned from those who went before him. 👑
Big gamble taking off the war paint not long after this. Eric Carrs thundering drums, and Vinnies talents really revived Kiss. Maybe not to the peaks of the 70s, but definitely kept them relevant.
My first Concert in 79...great show. I loved em. Judas Priest opening changed everything for me thst night. Didnt listen to much of anything except Ace first solo record. I saw this tour too...once without makeup. We had an ice storm and maybe a couple hundred people made it there and they played. Vinnie was blowing me kisses and i was very uncomfortable lol
Creatures the true return of KISS! I saw them in Glens Falls where I live ...we met Vinnie sans makeup at soundcheck! Great guy! The Wiz! Amazing show!
Portland Maine (on the barrier in front of Gene, so like 'front row'); and Worcester Spectrum, Worcester MA. The EricVinnie band was amazing! The lean-mean setlist was awesome, and the deeper-darker 'sound' for all the songs was THUNDEROUS. (Firehouse stayed, Hotter Than Hell gone. Calling Dr Love stayed, Christine Sixteen was gone, etc). Eric was a monster! Vinnie was a RABID scorpion! Got the signed Creatures photo at Strawberries Worcester.
(After that, I was the same line-up on the Lick It Up tour, five times: Stafford, England; Glazgo Scotland & front row at Ed-in-burra Scotland; Worcester Massachusetts; New Haven, Conneticut. Met, talked with, photos with, autographs with all at Stafford, all at Glazgo, Vinnie at Worcester).
I'm over both of you.! Missed Creatures. They were all over Upstate NY. So was I.!! But wanted sumthing closer. Under 2 hours. It was Wintertime and a bad one at that. That never happened.! 3 friends from school went. Saw their concert jerseys the next day. Thought Vinnie looked amazing.! Caught Lick It Up tour up there tho. 45 min away.!! Go figure..
Even though the band took the make up off if they had put mark or bruce in makeup what would we see today had they never taken off they just gave every new guy a identity would they be around today
Anyone know if they had planned to take off the makeup by this time? This footage is interesting because it was such a transitional period. I think it's safe to say they were probably at a commercial low in the U.S., but Lick It Up was just around the corner!
Vinnie may be a good guitar player and songwriter but was a giant pain in the ass to Paul and Gene. so much so that they fire the S.O.B. twice. Bruce was the right replacement after Mark St. John tenue with KISS was cut real short. Vinnie looks kind of bored but his persona was a pretty cool. it a sad shame that P&G diecided to not give Eric S. and Tommy their own persona for familiarity reason. Paul resented and did really felt unconfortable with new members new personas in his autobiography. IMO ditching the make up I believe may have been an excuse to put an end to the continuous revamp of new characters. plus, when they band was starting to sound more heavier and due to Eric drumming style being different Peter's jazzy drumming style. Eric gave the band an extra added punch to the band. Vinnie, Mark, and Bruce brought more shredding compared to Ace who isn't exactly a shredder.
gene is really boring , truthfully. compare this to the 79 tom snyder interview of how to actually interview for televsion. gene joked about preparation h, and it went over like a hemorroid.
@@raymorrow170And Ace was constantly falling on his ass (luckily they figured out how to make it look cool), to which he himself has admitted. What’s your point? Bruce would run around stage and do various other things. You don’t see it much on recordings because they would only focus on him when he was soloing and standing still.
Three big egos, and the most humble guy on earth. RIP Eric

I'm an American recording artist, and musician. Kiss was a big influence on me as well.
Oh man ..this is incredible..such a precious piece of video history for all of us long time KISS fans …amazing ..
Vinnie’s voice is absolutely beautiful
Totally agree!
I never had the privilege of seeing a concert but in 79 my brother got snowed in in Evansville indiana and got to party with them so cool
I had the privilege to see Eric on the Asylum tour and just missed a drum stick he threw at the Centrum on Worcester Massachusetts.. R.I.P. Eric
I don't care what anyone else thinks, I still love cranking up the KISS and rocking out like crazy!
I respect that Paul Stanley wanted 100% every show. I heard he had a doctor freeze his vocal chords, when he blew it out touring, so he could still sing with laryngitis it's just crazy how much he spoke and sang for hours on end

Great stuff. I can't believe people were complaining about concert ticket prices in 1983, when tix were like 12 bucks.
Amen, you can't park for $12 now.....
$12 is equivalent to around $36 in 1983 so go figure

You’d almost think Ace walked in the room @4:45
Makes me wonder if they told Vinnie to laugh like Ace in interviews lol
Loved this lineup!

Vinnie did a great job as guitar for Kiss , I see Eric filled the comedian void Ace left behind
Not as funny as ace but rip eric
9:24 "I used to go next door and lip sync to records" Lol, he still does.
My favorites are Ace, Peter, and Vinnie.
I actually think Vinnies make up is cool as shit
Me too.!! Awesum.! I was sold quicker on his than Eric Carrs.! But excepted him right away too.
Bam!
I agree. As far as originality, Vinnie and Eric's makeup is much cooler than Paul and Gene. Paul should have stuck with the Bandit. Gene's is OK, but not as scary as they want.
Paul actually came up with it. The onk was his idea
Eric carr's is my favorite the 🦊
Funny Eric mentioning Space Bear out of the blue
Personally was Gene mentioning Stray cats (firstly it's one of my childhood band and secondly I wouldn't guess he would like them)
Poor Paul and Gene have been telling this same old "Beginnings Of KISS Story" for over 50 years.

Glad I got to see KISS with Eric Carr and Vinnie Vincent.
The BEST in the business, all talented
We were lucky to have them
19:00 - 27:05 Eric is soooo funny🤣

April 1974 Michigan Palace my first time
Sault Sainte Marie, 2007 outdoor casino was my first and last time. Felt the flames on my face from like 20 rows back
Vinnie reminds me of Chris Kattan.
I can't unsee it now lol
Eric was soooo fun and sweet 🥺♥️
It's safe to say the 80s was a huge period of change for KISS.
Best Kiss interview I ever heard.
My first Concert in 79...great show. I loved em. Judas Priest opening changed everything for me thst night. Didnt listen to much of anything except Ace first solo record. How funny that Paul knows Julius Rosa…,that to me really highlights the New York origins of the band….and when they grew up
I love listening to Gene talk. His voice and inflection are so precise.
Creatures the true return of KISS! I saw them in Glens Falls where I live ...we met Vinnie sans makeup at soundcheck! Great guy! The Wiz! Amazing show!
I love all their accents ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
RIP Eric and pray for Vennie well being
I think I miss Ace Frehleys laugh in this video haha... rock on 🤘
2:08 Eric: don't do that do this 🕺🕺
I love Paul Stanley he is my favorite 😍🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸❤️❤️❤️
He was in no way gonna divulge anything about Diana Ross
Although Eric is small - he has a nice body and under 9 pounds of hair - he had a cute face too . What a nice guy he is ! 💜🧡💜🧡
Maybe it's me but often small people makes really great drummers
Love Eric that man was a humble man kick ass interview ,!

KISS AND MOTLEY CRUE AT IRVINE MEADOWS OF CALIFORNIA OUTDOOR CONCERT , IT WAS COOL,!!
Would they (Gene and Paul) have ever thought that almost 40 years later, they'd STILL be doing it! RIP Eric Carr.
Gene Simmons is the very soul and embodiment of KISS
Gene mentioned it's my life and I do what I 🎸 well that song was on Psycho Circus🤡
I saw this tour in 1983 in Dallas,I paid $11 bucks.
Tour program was $5 bucks.
Now it’s worth several hundred dollars!
In MINT condition ..maybe. @@ricksantana1016
If it’s just about the band and not the members let’s see if they replace all 4 of them at the End of The Road!
Paul has already said this is a possibility.
The Beatles influenced the boomers and KISS influenced the Generation Xers.
And then the parent from gen X influenced the best gen Z lol (personally have more grew up with Billy Idol and David Bowie but I still love them)
Acted exactly the same before the Dan Snyder interview with Ace and Peter
Tom Snyder.
Eric interrupting his own sentence to talk about his "quivering breast" is so genuinely funny to me
We are its❤iz

Maybe not a shredder. But HIS solos are by far the most memorable.!!
(Gene) "We'd catch a lot of flack from"...
(Paul) "Roberta"
Too funny

@ 21:50 - Little did they know…
These guys,Not Vinnie Vincent have set the mark very very high for any other rock band to follow.
ACE FREHLEY is KISS.
53:10 😂😂😂😂 WE ARE KISS! ...and who are you?
Too bad Ace wasn’t with them at this point. Vinnie simply didn’t belong or fit in with the group. The Dawn of a new era. “ The 80’s “
But Bruce did.
Bruce looked.like a tree. Love him deerly.! But stage presence.! Come on. Get Real.!!

They needed Eric Singer and Thayer and they would have been fine
1:37 Yoda?

You can just tell vinnie wasn't a fit
Yeah. In interviews. Etc. But on stage he fit in well. He could freaking jam.
Granted it was awkward!…
I can understand him being out of place at first. Who wouldnt.? He got my vote right away..
Gene was just 33, looks like 50
I always thought the Beatles (well, at least three of them) looked older than what they actually were back in the day.
Vinnie invented kiss
I would say he “transitioned”with KISS from makeup to non makeup…
The Ankh and Fox thing just didn’t cut it
Fox is better than cat by design for face.
This was the best version of the band…Eric’s drumming was great and Vinnie was a great guitarist and songwriter
This was best KISS lineup ever!
They looked.GREAT.!!
