It really does take it to a whole new level. The lyrics are indeed powerful in and of themselves, but the music video is so well created to tell the story of the song. It greatly enhances its impact. Hope you take the chance to watch it and even react to it with the music video. It's one of those music videos people search for reactions for.
While I do agree the video takes it to higher level, it's kind of a double edge sword for me, as when I am hearing just the song, the images of the video are playing in my head, instead of my own imagination seeing what it wants to create. Still awesome no matter what
@@tommyk6719 Totally ridiculous and idiotic to say it's not cool to hear this song without watching the video. No band or artist writes and performs a song with a video in mind. Music is powerful and compelling on its own without someone else's visual interpretation to make it enjoyable and moving.
My father and I didn't have a great relationship, we didn't talk all that often, I'm just glad I was there holding his hand when he passed, it was only 2 years ago, but this song now makes me an emotional wreck. I miss you Dad.
mike and the mechanics...thanks for reacting to this. The last time I heard this I was 20 and kind of in an argument with my dad. Now he's gone and I have a twenty year old son. This song means so much more now. Thanks, you're awesome!
The wonderful voice of Paul Carrack who has done different versions of this song and can still sing in his 60's. "All I need is a miracle" was another popular song by this group. Love your reviews
What are your sources? I've only just started listening/watching and you are covering some great music. I'm envious that you are getting to visit such magic for the first time.
Nice review of a great song. Guitarist, band leader and writer of this song is Mike Rutherford who was with the band Genesis with Peter Gabriel. They were my favorite band in the '80s. Also....love the T-shirt! I'm from Boston.
Rather than blame the generation before you, just imagine the havoc your generation will wreak when you start having kids. I'm old. Trust me when I tell you.
My song for my dad shose hone 23 yrs yet still present. Get the video girl
It's better when viewed with the official video. It's like a scene from a movie.

@@michaeldavid6284 At least back then songs were not written with a video in mind.
This tune always brings a tear to my ears.
This is my all time favorite song of any genre!

This is a masterpiece, the lyrics are so true to life. 👍👍
A great song by Mike and The Mechanics. You should also try "All I Need is a Miracle"
With your keen intellect and such emotional DEPTH, you are well fitted for a rewarding life.
I really appreciate this comment, thank you so much

This one brings a tear every time ❤
The singer is Paul Carrack from Sheffield- a great soul singer
I watched that catch you - the vulnerability showed. :)
The official video will make you cry.

Gotta have the official video
You should have reacted to the Official Video.
A lesson for Life
Hey ya. Beautiful yet heavy tune.

Wish you much success! Please be aware that a lot of the songs you react to have versions with videos that are often used by other reactors!
Mike plus the Mechanics.😂
You gotta do INXS next. 😉

The brilliant B.A Robertson co wrote this masterpiece with Mike Rutherford, and B.A Robertson released the song Bang Bang
That was great! I was wondering why the thumbnail pic says Violent Femmes, cuz that's a totally different band
Thanks so much

@@RNDReacts Love your reactions but the Official Video REALLY brings home the meaning and significance of this song.

How old,my friend?
@@Isleofskye60 and counting...
Agreed. I'm in my 70s. This song and Harry Chapin's "Cats in the Cradle" are the two saddest songs of fatherhood ever written.
