Been lurking for a while, thought it high time I subscribe. Quite eerie watching this video and listening to your weather report, we had very similar conditions today on the other side of the Atlantic - cold but felt warmer than the thermometer indicated due to high humidity and we had clear blue sky. River was like a millpond, and watching the ducks floating along was just the same as seeing the ducks on your video! I live pretty much next to the River Thames in the UK, generally go for a daily walk by the riverside and have always been a bit of a ship fan. Since the London docks closed many years ago we don't get the big ships along my stretch these days apart from the occasional cruise liner or navy vessels. Enjoy watching your videos as these huge lake freighters navigate the canal, must be awesome to see them so close up in real life.
Pete, your message truly humbles me, and I want to sincerely thank you for taking the time to share such kind words. I’m familiar with the River Thames, I had the chance to visit London years ago, and it left a lasting impression. I’d love to return one day and experience it again. It’s great to hear you’ve been enjoying the videos, and I can promise you this, the channel will always remain a positive space. No matter what’s happening in the world, we’re here to have fun, share good vibes, and enjoy the journey together. Wishing you all the best, my friend from across the pond!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍👍👋👋👋👋👋
So wonderful that you're a new Boat Friend!! Mike dies the most amazing job (that's not really a job in my book!) of recording the ships in our canal in beautiful Duluth Minnesota! Welcome!!❤❤
@miapdx503 waving right back at you, my friend! The snow is starting to come down here in Duluth. There should be some good videos coming soon if I can catch a ship with the snow.
So now I've found a new channel to binge watch...I'm from the southern US but have a massive affection for Great Lakes shipping, I've always loved logistics and the Great Lakes are a MASSIVE logistics hub. Awesome videos!
This makes me so happy to hear this! I hope everything is going great there in the south! I’m glad you found the channel friend, welcome! Very cool! You did an awesome job with the master’s salute. That Swan was picture perfect and of course, the Barker is impressive as always. Thanks for another great video!
It was a surreal moment to be able to hit that horn on the master salute on the powerful icebreaker! Also, I thought it would be kind of fun and funny to add the bird in the canal that everybody was talking about. A few videos ago there was the discussion if it was a goose or a swan, it was obviously a swan. Come for the ships, but also learn about the birds! 🦢 😂😂😂😂😂
Stephanie, it was one of the funniest videos I’ve recorded in a long time. I seriously cannot wait to show you the Coast Guard and commander Greene! It’s going to be unbelievable. I can’t wait for you to see it.
I thought that was you down there this morning!!! Glad it wasn't as cold as it looked out there for you. I keep envisioning being up close to these ships as they come through the canal, how massive they are. Can't wait to see the videos of the Mackinaw and your experience with the capt and crew! Even though it was just the capt salute, it was still a thrill to hear her horns!!
I was out there doing a little filming this morning, the canal is a pretty neat place. It’s so fun to see those boats up close! One day you will be standing right by me at the canal and we will watch 1000 footer go through. I just know it.
A lot of ship! A lot of people watching it come in. Great video! Looking forward to what you have left to show on the Mackinaw. Thank you for sharing Mike!

I was up on the boulevard today, and watched the JRB spin around at Rice’s, then back all the way to CN, with the help of the Missouri. Lovely slow motion. Looking forward to the Makinaw footage.
Hey friend! Look at that cute animal in your profile photo! Very cool. When you read this comment here on a Sunday morning, you will look outside and see all the snow on the ground. Today will not be that cold but they said starting tomorrow is gonna be extremely cold. I want you to see a little more about that trip. Hello Mike and friends! Winter has finally hit Indiana. Looks like a beautiful day in Duluth! Thanks Mike for continuing to bring us all great content!
James, there was nothing like being around all of those Coast Guard members. They really have so much respect and love for one another. It was truly impressive of watching them work together. I hope you have a fantastic Sunday brother, I want you to take a quick look at this to understand that trip I did ruclips.net/user/postUgkx5WQphI6WYET6WrxNTN92fu2p5RxdjJnz?si=P6WNZ0dC4L2g55ee
Your winter video of that huge ship coming into Duluth is wonderful. Everyone looked fine watching that ship come in on that cold day. Everyone knows to dress for the weather even below freezing with snow. Growing up in northeastern wisconsin I remember layers of clothing seemed to be key. However, I remember my feet were always cold in the winter. They only time they were warm was in bed. I do remember ice on the inside of my bedroom window on the coldest days. We had only single pane windows with storm windows. I do remember big winter heating bills. We went to the home improvement store and bought many bags of vermiculite insulation pouring them into the attic. After adding maybe another 6 inches of insulation our heating bills dropped by over 30% right away the next winter.
Here’s another cool comment from Wendy! I love how you not only talk about the video but pull interesting elements from your life and things that are relevant into your comments. It’s like another page that could be added to an awesome story book that you’ve created for us.
It’s a Super Saturday! A peek and listen to the Mackinaw, the JRB and a Trumpeter Swan. Oh, I almost forgot the ducks. Wowee! I especially enjoyed so many crew out greeting the watchers. Awesome Mike! Thanks!⚓️🚢❤️
Over 2 inches of snow yesterday down here just outside of Duluth, GEORGIA. Between the snow and watching "The Barker" it felt much like home. Thanks for the great video, Mike. Stay warm.
@@vibewithmike Yes, and it will dip down to about 20 degrees tonight (12 degrees below freezing. 😉) Up north it is a "dry" cold, which I can tolerate much better than the winter temperatures down here (due to the amount of moisture in the air).
Awesome! Love the JRB! Can’t wait to see it in person some day! Thanks for sharing that clip Mike that is truly an experience that will be remembered forever I bet! Can’t wait to see the video!!
@ some day again! Was just fortunate to see the PRT the last time we were there and make some awesome memories with my dad! Hopefully Captain Newland will be on board when that happens!
The Barker really is a beauty, isn't she? I love that horn too. It's like a musical announcement! I cannot wait to show you the Coast Guard video. What an amazing group of people.
@@vibewithmike Speaking of music, one of my favorites, singer Van Morrison, uses a foghorn in a song. "Into the Mystic. Also love Otis Redding "Dock of the Bay".
Great job Mike as always, interesting video and the energy we all need. Stay warm and keep them videos coming. Comment next time how long it takes Barker to make a round trip and how many roundtrips they do in a season.
Wow!!! Love the Barker!! Something about those footers! My face is still hurting from smiling for you getting to do the Master Salute on the Mackinaw! I think I would’ve wet my pants!! 😂. Awesome video Mike! 👏👏
Doug, that was an incredible experience to be able to salute the lift Bridge. It was beyond surreal, as I was pushing the button from one of the most well-known vessels on the Great Lakes. It was really something. And that Coast Guard crew, unbelievable professionalism.
@ I’m so happy for you! Well deserved and I’m so proud to get to be apart of this great community of boat friends and for you to share all this with us!
Great Video Mike. Gotta Love seeing the Barker. Sure Can't wait to see the Video of you on the Mackinaw!! Super excited and waiting. Hope you weekend is good.
It was like I was living in a dream when I was on a Coast Guard icebreaker during that operation. When I pushed the horn to do the master salute, it was literally like a Drop the Mic moment I was so mesmerized and and shock that I was doing it.
What a great last entrance of the Season for the James R. Barker. How grand of the crew to see the fans and I’m sure feel their excitement at seeing the Ship. I seem to forget about the Salute and am surprised by it and it was terrific. Fair Winds and Following Seas to the Captain and Crew for the final crossing of Lake Superior for this shipping season. Thanks, Mike for all YOU do to keep us informed of the Ships. I’m looking forward to see what the USCG has for us, in the off season. Stay Warm.
Hey friend! I love thinking about Texas! I’ve always had such a great time there. Wonderful people, wonderful food. And I’m OK with that hot weather. I hope you’re having a fantastic Sunday. My friend in Alaska! I hope you’re doing fantastic. Someday I will make it to Alaska to see that beautiful part of the world. So many wonderful animals. I just can’t wait to go there.
Shirley! If I was able to add additional positivity into your day, it really makes me happy to hear it. You always show up in the comment section and add positivity. It’s always nice seeing a comment from you Shirley! I wish you a fantastic Sunday. There’s a lot of snow on the ground today in Duluth finally
Greetings Mike and all the Boat Friends. Mike, this one belongs on the best of reel for sure. The view of the canal and the north and south piers from the bridge of the CGC alone was worth tuning in for. The JRB footage was some of your best. You’re getting pretty good at this 😉😉😉😉👊👊👊.
Greg! It was absolutely fantastic and such a honor to be on the Coast Guard vessel. I really can’t wait to show it to you. The entire crew was unbelievable.
@Vibe with Mike Howdy! First time commenter here .. on my phone so can’t see all the comments so someone might have caught this already .. but that white aquatic bird you got right the other day. It IS a goose! That is a Snow Goose! They migrate from the Canadian Arctic through the North Central US on their way to their Winter habitats. Maybe that beauty likes Duluth and will stick around to enjoy the boats with us!! We can hope! Loving your content .. helping me get over my fear of ships and water. ❤🚢🌊❤ Thank you!!
I think that would be great for the bird to stick around Duluth! I want say hello to you and thank you for leaving that first comment. Don’t hesitate on every single video to keeps those comments coming. I promise we will learn so much together. I’m learning each day with these ships. It’s a blast.
Thank you so much for the positive comment my friend. All of those crew members are in a good mood because the very end of the season is knocking at the door. That's the spirit! You'll have to see how majestic the Mackinaw is when you get a chance. I’ll be posting that video very soon. The Barker’s horn is unbelievable.
Bill and Julie, I hope everything is great in Tucson. Anytime I think about Tucson I think about Guadalajara restaurant. They make the guacamole and salsa right at your table fresh with that cart.
Thanks for showing me the Barker on a very calm day ...that was awesome that you got your invite on the ice cutter and you got to blow the horn too yay ...
Another awesome video @Vibe with Mike ⚓️! Yes, that was a swan and I'm going to watch the previous video co starring the swan. Thank you for sharing. Have a fantastic weekend, boat friends!
There is my man Bill! How are you doing, brother? Please say hello to Claire and your wife. Some light snow was coming down during the video and there should be a few inches in Duluth tomorrow. There’s nothing like that Barker bark.
@vibewithmike they say hello! We're all doing well and hope you are too! We love that Barker Bark! It'll be snowing here soon too. Any live streams planned before end of season?
@@vibewithmike no pressure just curious. Can't believe the end of the season is already here. It's been an incredible season! You've grown the Boat Friends community and brought the Duluth area into so many homes! Truly grateful, thanks for everything Mike!!!

It is one of the most powerful sounds out there. It’s such a recognizable sound to all of us that love the ships. I hope you’re having a great day Christy.
Thank you Mike that is a beast of a ship! You’ve been quiet, no boats to show us?? Why is this the last load of the season? But it looks very cold! Thank you for the Swan pic, I wasn’t sure cos of the angle last time, but this if definitely confirmation 🤣🤣🤣 We are having some much needed rain but we need lots as we haven’t had any for months! I appreciate you braving the cold to share these ships. I'll stay here where it is a warm 42 degrees with a wind chill of 38. But hey that is typical winter in the Houston area.
Hey, my friend there in Houston! It really wasn’t too bad, I know it seems pretty cold, but for whatever reason it felt a lot warmer than it was. Maybe the adrenaline was going to see that big ship come in? I wish you a fantastic evening there in Texas.
How are you doing, Mike? That was so awesome to hear that salute from the Mackinaw! Were you nervous? Haha. Nice crowd to see the Barker and lots of waving back and forth! So is the Barker staying in the Twin Ports then? Great video Mike! Always enjoy seeing the ships come in! 🙂👋🚢💙 So many ducks too. And I guess the one white bird was a swan! I did notice the longer neck this time. Stay healthy everyone! Especially our football team! ;) 🙂👋🏈
With the 2025 shipping season coming to a closure, I'm so glad I get to see my favorite 1000' the James R Barker one last time for 2025. Seems like the last couple of years we have seen less and less of the ship that set hook, line & sinker into me to make me a Great Lake freighter watcher along with you and your Boat friend community sharing your shipping knowledge. Mike, you gave me goosebumps listening to you give a Masters salute! You had to be in Seventh Heaven. Man.... I love the look of that big old boy the JRB cruising up the canal heading into the harbor. No Master salute. I knew before you said it that it wasn't Capt. Newland. She was pivoting before she was through going under the bridge. Thank you, Mike that was great. Looking forward to more of your time aboard the CG Cutter.
Ken, you and I both know that there’s nothing like the bark of the barker. Even a condensed version is super powerful and cool. It came in at 110 dB even without doing the big one. I hope you’re having a great Sunday. Right now, there is a lot of snow on the ground here in Duluth. I guess we should expect that at this time of year. I can’t wait to show you these Coast Guard videos.
Always looks so serene over there! It looks pretty nippy over there! Those ice sheets look cool! both people and birds are out in force hehe. That is awesome man! You are actually on a Coast Guard Ship! Years ago I told you one day you will sail on these ships and it is fantastic that you now can! The Barker has the best horn period! That two tone bellow is fantastic! Hope you have a great Sunday Bro!
I do remember you telling me that, but there’s no way that it really connected to me from a reality standpoint. As you know, I’m so content recording these ships, but to be invited to do something like that is something that is so hard to put into words. I know I was there, but do you know how that feeling? Happens where it’s like you’re living in a dream and you’re above yourself watching yourself do all these things. That’s what it was like on that Coast Guard icebreaker during that operation and being able to hit that horn is something that will live with me until the very end⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️👋👋👋👋👋🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
@@vibewithmike I had a feeling it would happen for you man! @@vibewithmike I can imagine! Its like the first time I went in the cockpit of a Boeing 737. It seems surreal how complicated they are! Cant wait for the video!
Again a Big Thanks for showing what is happening in your neck of the woods. I’ve been to Duluth a few times visiting relatives. Living here in New England and seeing those big freighters travel thru that narrow channel is a skill and true professionalism. Time to visit Duluth again. Thanks again.
Please let me know if you make it to Duluth again. Make sure to bring some great weather. Hello Mike and friends! Winter has finally hit Indiana. Looks like a beautiful day in Duluth! Thanks Mike for continuing to bring us all great content!
It’s great to be bringing you these videos, Indiana, Thanks for watching. I hope you have a fantastic Saturday Don
Wow, Mike thank you so much for your videos and the fact that you shared that coast guard footage. What a wonderful experience you had.
Great video. Thanks for clarifying the swan debate. lol. Birds, ships, snow, etc. So many fun things going on. Cheers to you. Keep up the great work!
It was a pretty cool day on the canal! Thanks for watching as always
Your winter video of that huge ship coming into Duluth is wonderful. Everyone looked fine watching that ship come in on that cold day. Everyone knows to dress for the weather even
below freezing with snow.
Another great day for Lifty the Boatfriends Snowman. Take care Mike, have a wonderful evening, stay warm and God Bless ya Brother!!!🙏❤😊
That’s the spirit! I'm happy you are enjoying the video. It was so great to show it to you. I got to get that snowman out.
I hope you have a fantastic Saturday as well! It was a wonderful environment out there watching a big beast leave today
Over 2 inches of snow yesterday down here just outside of Duluth, GEORGIA. Between the snow and watching "The Barker" it felt much like home. Thanks for the great video, Mike. Stay warm.
It’s been a very cool winter so far. Now I was not expecting you to tell me Snow in Georgia. Are you serious?
@@vibewithmike Yes, and it will dip down to about 20 degrees tonight (12 degrees below freezing. 😉) Up north it is a "dry" cold, which I can tolerate much better than the winter temperatures down here (due to the amount of moisture in the air).
@francisforest9342 don’t forget, at some point that warm weather will come to us
@@francisforest9342 , @vibewithmike. lol I always tell my dad in AZ that it's a dry cold!!!
I think they South has had more snow than Wisconsin
Awesome! Love the JRB! Can’t wait to see it in person some day! Thanks for sharing that clip Mike that is truly an experience that will be remembered forever I bet! Can’t wait to see the video!!
Mike, I really hope you get to Duluth to see the JRB. You will not be let down brother.
@ some day again! Was just fortunate to see the PRT the last time we were there and make some awesome memories with my dad! Hopefully Captain Newland will be on board when that happens!
@@vibewithmike Mike is my bonus son!!! I look forward to meeting him in person one day!!!!

@@mikehelt30022 we will have to get Mike involved!!! LOL I may be his bonus MIL though!!! 🙂
Anxiously waiting for the Mackinaw fun. The Barker was awesome. Love her horn. Thank you for sharing with us!!❤
The Barker really is a beauty, isn't she? I love that horn too. It's like a musical announcement! I cannot wait to show you the Coast Guard video. What an amazing group of people.
Skeeter - That horn reminds me of the guitar amp in the 1st scene of "Back to the Future".
Massive overload.
@stevejette2329 it is a vibration to it for sure
@@vibewithmike Speaking of music, one of my favorites, singer Van Morrison, uses a foghorn in a song. "Into the Mystic.
Also love Otis Redding "Dock of the Bay".
@@stevejette2329 Hello Boat friend Steve! Love both those musician's music.
Nothing like a Boat friends video on Saturday!❤
A special Saturday treat my friend. I hope you’re doing great Karen.
Great job Mike as always, interesting video and the energy we all need. Stay warm and keep them videos coming. Comment next time how long it takes Barker to make a round trip and how many roundtrips they do in a season.
If it it’s going straight back to Duluth, it usually would be about a three day trip is what I’ve been told
I knew you’d be there Mike. Thank you❤
There’s no way that I’m gonna miss that Barker Mary Anne
@douglaswhites-zo3hb I cannot wait to show you everything.
Great Video Mike. Gotta Love seeing the Barker. Sure Can't wait to see the Video of you on the Mackinaw!! Super excited and waiting. Hope you weekend is good.
There will be multiple videos on that Coast Guard vessel. I can’t wait to show it to you. It’s so wonderful. I can’t wait.
Mike on the horn! Love it!! And watching something the size of the Barker essentially 'spinning' to port to enter the canal - VERY cool.😊
It was like I was living in a dream when I was on a Coast Guard icebreaker during that operation. When I pushed the horn to do the master salute, it was literally like a Drop the Mic moment I was so mesmerized and and shock that I was doing it.
@@vibewithmike That is a VERY cool experience Mike!
@PatrickSBellSr 👋👋👋⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️
Stay Warm.
It’s going to be wonderful to showcase the wonderful Coast Guard
Hi Robin. I counted 11 crew members gathered together waving to the crowd. I'm not sure I've ever seen that many. Great to see the enthusiasm!
Love the Barker bark!!!!!! She’s riding high!!!
It has such a powerful deep tone
I'm fron Houston TX, and I thankyou for all of the great adventures. We never have ice in our channels
Hey friend! I love thinking about Texas! I’ve always had such a great time there. Wonderful people, wonderful food. And I’m OK with that hot weather. I hope you’re having a fantastic Sunday. Absolutely, I’ll always be out there checking out those ships
That ship is indeed a beast. I would love to come to Duluth & see that in person. Anch AK sending respect & greetings.
My friend in Alaska! I hope you’re doing fantastic. Someday I will make it to Alaska to see that beautiful part of the world. So many wonderful animals. I just can’t wait to go there.

Outstanding video Mike, thank you for your dedication.
I’m glad that you enjoyed it. It was really fun to make Jeff.
Sure is a beast, the Barker. Huge!
You can just feel the power as it goes by Ruth
Greetings Mike and all the Boat Friends. Mike, this one belongs on the best of reel for sure. The view of the canal and the north and south piers from the bridge of the CGC alone was worth tuning in for. The JRB footage was some of your best. You’re getting pretty good at this 😉😉😉😉👊👊👊.
Greg! It was absolutely fantastic and such a honor to be on the Coast Guard vessel. I really can’t wait to show it to you. The entire crew was unbelievable.
Great video Mike! Wishing her safe travels on her final trip for the season! Keep warm all!
It will be leaving sometime tomorrow. I can’t wait to see it.
Saturday afternoon hello from Poulsbo Washington, thumbs up,great video 14 is still cold to me,thanks for being there and bringing us along
That actually felt a lot warmer out here, Jeff
What a beautiful 'beast' she is Mike! Love the thousand footers! Thank you for the video! Stay warm!
The Barker is definitely one of the biggest ships on the Great Lakes.
I love all these videos showing the fans showing up to welcome the ship in. Looks like the crews enjoy it as well.
Thank you so much for the positive comment my friend. All of those crew members are in a good mood because the very end of the season is knocking at the door. That ship is so huge over 1000 feet
The bark from the Barker was incredible! Love that deep rich sound. Massive beastie!
It is one of the most powerful sounds out there. It’s such a recognizable sound to all of us that love the ships. I hope you’re having a great day Christy.

If you were digging in the garden here in Minnesota, you’d have a handful of snow and ice right now! 😂👋👍
Especially our football team! ;) 🙂👋🏈
It was a very good fraud out there for the Barker. That was really nice to see. It felt really nice out there too.
@vibewithmike Nice! 🙂
Gets me excited every time! Love everything about that ship. Thank you for sharing Mike
I hope you’re doing great. I can’t wait to show you that Coast Guard video.
I love the rumble of the power plants of these large ship. Feel the power.
So much power with those diesel engines
The James R Barker has the best horn! My favorite! ❤❤❤
It’s one of the coolest sounding horns on the Great Lakes if not the coolest
Thank u❤😊
