It’s all about having fun! This is my hobby and I love it. I’m dedicated to my career in real life but this is my way to get away and relax. I enjoy so much doing the research on the ships and finding new ways to record them. It truly is a pleasure to record these videos for you and all of the Boat Friends!
Mike, you have outdone yourself. This was an absolutely amazing video. The water looked like glass. Everything aligned, great weather, great lighting, great ship and a great cameraman! Thank you so much!
Can you imagine how cool it would be to be up in that pilot house Brett? It is such a unique vessel. I love how it looks. I didn’t know what it would look like at night. I’ve never seen it at night. It took my breath away as it went by.
Oh man that came in like a canoe in steath mode! Once again loved the pre amble and extra info...especially about the yellow light on the bridge stating neutral current....all new info for boat friends!
Mike this one is a 10 out of 10 too! It’s not just covering an event. It’s the way you narrate the story for us, and angles you film for us. Very cool. Thanks! That Captain must have known he was on camera too, he knew that water was flat calm and didn’t want to leave a wake to ruin the reflection! Just Awesome, thanks Mike!
First view of the ship in the canal: Love the lower angle viewing the ship. It almost makes the ship look like it is riding on elevated water within the canal. Gives the ship a little look of majesty.
Seeing this video presentation at a time we see for ourselves, portrays a stillness not often captured to take one's attention in the way we see here. Stillness, a calmness with bright lights in the background that adds even more stillness, light not moving with the still calmness of water reflecting that light so still, enabling all to see this moment in Duluth MN. as this uniquely incredible ship, John D. Leitch is called to port. Another great video indeed! 🧐
Ghost! I can’t underscore of how awesome this video was to record and how it turned out. This is the most unique ship on the Great Lakes in my opinion. What a treat to catch this at night in this situation finally coming into Duluth.👍⛴️
@GhostSportsES at some point I think it would be really cool to do a community live stream at some point. We’ll have to figure out how this would go down, but I hear what you are saying.
I have a picture of myself as a 6 yr old in 1967 when this ship was called the Canadian century on the Welland CanalI almost got another pic in Iroquois Ontario beside this ship as it went through the locks a couple years ago
Thanks for doing these videos! Duluth is one of my most favorite places on earth - great food and birding in the fall! Without these videos, I thought it only a myth that ships traveled in and out of this harbor.

What a wonderful and unique picture indeed. Seeing that old lamp post having the lift bridge as a back-drop. It's a picture that draws and captivates one attention in a moment of time! Now, to capture the sun, the moon or even a seagull, any bird within that picture, resting on the lamp post or in flight will be incredible. A picture of still-life that comes alive when seeing life there in wonderful, Duluth MN. A picture only to have happened in that moment in time. 🧐
Tony! It’s all about having some fun brother. You never know what’s coming. You do know there is a ship or weather. Those are the only two things I really cover.

Deb! This is the most unique ship out on the Great Lakes. I can’t believe I finally recorded this arriving in Duluth. It was cool for me personally to see this ship in Duluth for the time! I’m glad I was able to share it with everybody!👍⛴️
Great video. Always enjoyable. No kidding about how calm it is when you filmed. Definitely looks like a Mill pond. But that can change pretty rapidly for sure. Thanks pal.
Shawn, thanks for the comment, pal! I really do believe this is the calmest I’ve ever seen the water under the lift bridge. It was like a sheet of glass and I know many people say that sometimes, but you could see it for yourself. It was unbelievably still. I will never forget that ship.
Duke! I really appreciate you taking a few minutes this evening to write that comment. It means a lot man. You know me, I just go out there and have some fun with these ships. I’m so glad that you enjoy seeing what’s going down in Duluth
Hi Mike, how are you doing, what a great sight that vessel the John D Leitch coming in to the harbour, with all the lights reflecting on the water, a great video Mike. 👍👍.
Mike, that pier light pole/two globes you showed was very interesting looking. I found some pictures from 1905, and the lights back then were the same design as today. Its pretty neat they are maintaining this history!
What a very nice thing to say. I love when you leave a comment so that I can think about Tucson. What a wonderful city. Thank you so much for watching this ship video friend.
The ship is so different from all the rest. It really is unique and I was so happy to record this for everybody. I hope you’re having a great Thursday night.
The lake sure is unpredictable. The other day the waves were crazy and now its almost like a mirror. It seems so quiet. I like the light pole. Its probably very old! Given how long the bridge has been there its no surprise that they have though of everything including lighting! Very unique looking ship! Super high pilot house! It is not even disrupting the lake as it gracefully moves onwards! Thank you for sharing bro! 😀👌
In my humble opinion, this was your best video yet, Mike. And the John D. Leitch is in my top 2 favorite boats and I really love how the captain went so slow through the canal. It definitely gave us a lot of time to admire her beauty. What an awesome ship.
That was such a fun video to record. Did you see the one from today with the big turbine blades? ruclips.net/video/H9XOHboR6ho/видео.htmlsi=CgtFI_UNc9qnEcyj
What an awesome night video Mike. You never cease to amaze all of us boat friends. That light pole, you should blacken out the post and show it as two full moons with the night sky as back ground. Peace!
There’s something about that light pole Scott. Chuck told me that it’s the original light poles that they had from the early 1900s that they must’ve converted. That makes me feel even more attached to these polls. I can’t tell you how excited I was to record this ship and everything went the way I wanted it to and the ship looks so beautiful in person.
New Boat Person from Australia. I am actually in the middle of the desert here in Alice Springs but luv ship watching. The Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge is amazing & the Lakers are humungus!! ❤❤

Jeff, I’m really glad that you liked the ship videos. They are so fun to make and I really enjoyed taking some time to learn about the ship and doing research about them. The ship in this video is one of my favorites and it was such a treat to see it. Go under the left bridge for the first time myself. What an old-school beautiful ship. I hope you’re doing well brother.
@vibewithmike yes sir I look forward to watching all your videos. I'm doing good me and the wife are road tripping this week. In PA now then Ohio tomorrow then back to PA till Monday or Tuesday
@jeffjohnson5810 well I wish you and your wife safe travels brother. I’m still waiting for some snow and the ships. There might be some snow on Saturday I heard so maybe a ship will come through
What can I say? Just another fantastic effort. All the more so because it’s a night piece with some beautiful light conditions. Nice little walk around in the bargain. Loved it.
Dave, you are totally right, two different situations on the lake. The video that you just watched right here was as calm as it gets and just a few days ago it was really wild. What a wonderful treat to see this beautiful ship come in.
That’s a very good point. I could not believe how slow it was moving, but I was very happy about it. The ship really took a piece of my heart. I love this ship.
I couldn’t ask for better conditions to record a ship. It was absolutely stunning and to see the ship for the first time in Duluth was unbelievable.⛴️👍
Awesome video Mike. FYI the John D Leitch was named after the owner of Upper Lakes Shipping. Algoma acquired the fleet in 2011. It is said John had a hand in all his ship builds. He was very involved in the Canadian Great Lakes trade, and would make a point of visiting all his ships. He once boarded one of his ships, and was upset the officer lounge had dated furniture. He ordered the furniture removed and ordered new furniture fit for an officer lounge.
Never heard of you, never seen your vids, not a spotter of or knowledgeable of ships. Your video came up on my feed, so I gave it a moment, then was held by your enthusiasm, bringing me along, guiding me to see with new eyes. I caught myself in a brief laugh your pat on my back, "Friends, could you ask for anything more?!" as the ship begins passing under the bridge. And thanks also for the calm and the silence unmolested by fast edits and background music.
No, this is a cool comment. What a way for me to start my day to read this. Thank you so much. I really appreciate you liking this format. We have really created a community of people that just have a good time. We talk about ships and everything else that comes along with life. Again, thank you so much for taking a moment out of your day to write such a wonderful comment. It really means a lot. All the best to you and your family in 2024. I hope we chat again soon.
I’m so glad you feel that way. Thank you so much. You’ve been with my channel since I was just figuring it out. Much respect to you for your loyalty and being there for me.
Thanks for another great Duluth lift bridge video with a truly unusual ship. Sorry, I did not realize this happened on 27 December 2023. There is not ice on Lake Superior. I grew up in Northeastern Wisconsin. I remember Lake Michigan with ice on it at the end of December year after year. Even when I left in about the winter of 1979 - 1980 it was nearing the end of December and very warm for December. It must have been in the 50s daytime. They just do not make winter the way they used to. This ship is going through the canal very slowly. There must be some coordination between the captain, the pilot, and the docking people to speed up or slow down arrival of the ship(s).
John, I could not be more excited when I saw AIS switch to Duluth. I was so excited to record this video. I don’t think I’ll be able to be happier with a night ship video than this.
Great video! You should be proud of the progress you’ve made with the channel. The content keeps getting better and better.

1000 footers are great, but the older ships are so much more majestic as they pass under the bridge, in my opinion! Thanks for the beautiful shot!

There might be some snow on Saturday I heard so maybe a ship will come through
@vibewithmike cool definitely will be watching if you post a video and hopefully we'll see some snow here cause we don't get hardly any snow back home
@jeffjohnson5810 👍⛴️❄️
That’s the best
Thank you so much for watching this video. This ship is truly one of a kind.⛴️👍
Wow! What a spectacular video. So cool. Great job Mike!!!
Bret! I’m thrilled to hear you enjoyed this video. I truly cannot wait to see the ship again.
What can I say? Just another fantastic effort. All the more so because it’s a night piece with some beautiful light conditions. Nice little walk around in the bargain. Loved it.
It’s always fun showing the area and what’s going on. I like setting the table just before the ship comes in.
This channel is the best!! Thanks, Mike.
I’m really glad you think that. I’ll keep recording these ships for you my friend.
Wow must be your best video yet Mike .The reflections in the water were amazing and what a beautiful ship . Thanks
I still can’t believe how beautiful everything turned out in the video
The water reflections are awesome
I appreciate that, I always try to provide cool perspectives to allow us to see the ships in a new way
Another great video Mike! A big change from the other day when Mother Superior was raging! All the best my friend!
Dave, you are totally right, two different situations on the lake. The video that you just watched right here was as calm as it gets and just a few days ago it was really wild. What a wonderful treat to see this beautiful ship come in.
Absolutely great video today!Smooth as glass waters for the arrival..
It was like the stage was set to see this beautiful ship finally come through Duluth
Mike…. I think they didn’t want to disturb that beautiful Duluth calm harbour with a wake.
That’s a very good point. I could not believe how slow it was moving, but I was very happy about it. The ship really took a piece of my heart. I love this ship.
Great ship, color is awesome
Wow! Will you look at that!!!! The boom lights make it extra magical! Thanks Mike!!
👍⛴️
Look at those lights reflect, what a sight!
Long live the memory of John
SO COOL!!! This is great! I agree with you, I think it's more beautiful at night too! Thank you so much!
Such a beautiful ship
It looks so majestic! Kelly
This was my favorite night ship video I ever recorded
Beautiful Video.First time seeing this ship.love your videos! Happy NEW YEARS from N. Wisconsin
Mike, your videos are getting pretty slick. This was great.
I’m so glad you feel that way. Thank you so much. You’ve been with my channel since I was just figuring it out. Much respect to you for your loyalty and being there for me.
Ready for it
The ship was awesome to record
Thanks for another great Duluth lift bridge video with a truly unusual ship.
Sorry, I did not realize this happened on 27 December 2023. There is not ice on Lake Superior.
I grew up in Northeastern Wisconsin. I remember Lake Michigan with ice on it at the end of December year
after year. Even when I left in about the winter of 1979 - 1980 it was nearing the end of December and very warm
for December. It must have been in the 50s daytime.
They just do not make winter the way they used to.
This ship is going through the canal very slowly. There must be some coordination between the captain, the pilot, and the docking people to speed up or slow down arrival of the ship(s).
You can’t miss this one Wendy ruclips.net/user/livejqasDa4ruIo?si=dbtqv8wQ3FjhW59q
Very impressive ship and video. Thanks, Mike.
Thank you very much friend. The bonus for me is every time you leave a comment I get to see that cool vehicle.
Just stunning combination of the glass-like water acting like a mirror for all the lights. Great looking ship!
It was the most stuffing ship at night I have recorded
The ships are beautiful at night.
I couldn’t ask for a more beautiful stage sent by Lake superior to see this elegant and unique ship
HA! I was hoping you got the JDL again... I saw it was heading back to Duluth. So cool.
John, I could not be more excited when I saw AIS switch to Duluth. I was so excited to record this video. I don’t think I’ll be able to be happier with a night ship video than this.
@@vibewithmike The vid was awesome, my man! Well done!
Great video Mike. Going to be passing through Duluth tomorrow on my way up to Orr MN. I don’t think safe ice Yet. Have a good night.
Safe travels, Dennis. No worries about ice because there’s all green grass and Duluth right now unbelievably. Thanks for watching this awesome ship.
Beautiful lights and city as well.
The sky was unbelievable to give me those reflections of the vessel
Beautiful night video, fantastic shots of the water. Well done. Thanks Mike
Ellen! It’s so fun capturing the reflections with the ship and bridge! I really enjoy finding cool things in the water to look at
