The Aerial Lift Bridge operator issued multiple commands for a vehicle to get off the bridge, something I had never personally heard before. The driver was able to drive off the bridge in time, but it was a little scary as a big ship was approaching, and we weren’t sure what was happening. What makes this moment even more unique is the follow-up interview with the driver, who shared how scared he felt during the incident. Thankfully, everything turned out okay, making this a truly memorable and dramatic event to capture. 3:20 The bridge Lift Bridge operation begins, and the driver panics on the bridge. 4:34 Interview with the panicked driver after the incident.

@@vibewithmikethe cold in Duluth really puts things in perspective. Once you go through real cold up there, what’s considered cold to most people really doesn’t feel bad at all
Thanks for the videos. Born and raised in Duluth. Had an uncle that was a chief engineer on the boats. We use to go watch his boat come through all the time. He would stand at the door in the engine room and wave at us. Now i live in Utah and still get to see the boats thanks to you.
It's so cool you had that connection to the boats growing up! I can only imagine those memories. I have nothing but respect for the people that have worked on the ships. Speaking of Utah, I had one of the most beautiful experiences out there. Right outside of SLC, I went to antelope Island.
I'm 62 now but I remember living in Duluth when I was 11-12 years old. We would go down to the lift bridge and hang on to the bottom as it went up to see who could go the farthest. None of us ever made it too far. Too scared for one. Also the car on the bridge we used to hear the bridge operator tell not only cars but people to get off the bridge! Some tourists back in the day were under the assumption that they could ride the bridge up and for a time there they would charge pedestrians a small fee to ride up on the bridge! I have so many fond memories and still so many family members living in Duluth!
Check this article out talking about back then with that Bridge www.duluthnewstribune.com/news/local/northlandia-once-upon-a-time-you-could-ride-aerial-lift-bridge-for-quarter
@@vibewithmikethanks for the link but you have to pay and subscribe to the paper to read it, I’m just going to google it and hopefully find a story about it. I am scared to death of heights but not over water so I would have definitely paid a quarter to ride up !!! I’m curious when that stopped ?
I just realized that it’s a subscription. Take a look at this, here’s an isolated photo of the area. An excellent treat for a Friday, the PRT departing Duluth on its way to Michigan. Bentleyville looks nice and colorful! That car driver must have scared stiff afraid the bridge would go up with them on it. Love seeing these big ships make that pivot to line up with the canal on their way out. You can see the steam coming out that stack as the PRT makes her way towards the canal. What a marvelous site seeing this beautiful ship cruise down the canal. And the Captains salute to the bridge 👍 Wow is that dark heading out on to Lake Superior. That has to be one eerie feeling! Safe voyage PRT! Thanks Mike!!!⚓🚢⚓
Ken, try everything possible to get out there to record the PRT. In particular, I need to get more videos with Bentleyville because it’s going away soon.
I can see how confusing a first time crossing the bridge would be, so many distractions with bells and lights going off. Glad he made it off in time to watch the PRT from ground level instead of an aerial view. 😅 When I lived at the Jersey Shore, a draw bridge would go up and people would shut the car off and walk over to watch the boats pass, waving, of course. By the time the bridge went back down, everyone was back in their vehicle, ready to roll. It is still one of my favorite memories. Thank you, Mike. Glad you had a chance to chat with a new boat friend from South Dakota. You probably put his mind at ease with your kindness. 😊
It is kind of scary, although you get a green light to cross, that clanging alarm goes off before you get completely over, you think it’s going to start going up and don’t want to drive off the edge 😳
I had a good conversation with him after the video. He had his whole family in the car so I could understand his position. He was a very nice guy just got caught in a bad situation not understanding what to do and it was very scary at that. I did put his mind at ease and made him feel comfortable about going back over.
Your video artistry and cinematography are continually improving, Mike. That view of the lift bridge from below… your vantage point… the lighting… and all of the structure’s detail? Sublime. Congrats - and thanks! 🙌🏻
Mike, braving the cold for us to see the PRT up close and personal again. It never gets old! That horn blast either. Glad that driver was safe and sound ⚓️🚢❤️

This is a bridge crossing that the driver will never forget! That must have been scary, to think the bridge might go up with the car still on it. Glad all ended well. Of course it was amazing to see the passing of this huge freighter. What a privilege you have to watch these massive ships pass by- as you already know. Thanks for posting. Your videos are always a pleasure to watch.
Janet, this definitely was an interesting video just because of the situation with that car, I’m glad that that guy was OK. I did speak with him for a while even after I asked him those questions.
Not too many bridges lift to let a huge ship go under it, that's for sure! Glad the bridge operator can communicate via loud speaker to help any confused visitors. The Tregurtha is so amazing to hear and see, and it definitely sounds louder from the south pier! Haha. That was quite a moment you captured Mike! Bentleyville is so pretty!
If anyone wants to visit Duluth for the canal, the South Pier Inn is the closest to the bridge and very nice. We got a room there, set the scanner to listen for boats. It was great. The James R. Barker doesn't care what time it is, the Barker Bark happens at 3AM if that's when they are arriving or departing.
Here are the two tools that I use to determine when the ships will be arriving or departing in Duluth. Keep in mind, there is no sure thing because of weather, speed of loading/unloading, etc. However, if you use the two of these together, it’ll really help you know what’s going on. Here are those tools. #1 This is updated by Duluth Harbor Cams, this one can be accurate too, however, it’s all about when it gets updated as well. They do a good job. harborlookout.com/ships#0 #2 This will help you determine exactly where the ship is in live time. It’s extremely accurate. The app I use is called “MarineTraffic” and it has a blue ship for the logo. You will really enjoy it! You can research vessel names and follow ships all over the world. You can download it on your Android or Apple phone.
I made a comment before I saw the full video. That ship is awesome. Looking at it makes the Edmund Fitzgerald come to mind and how winter on the Great Lakes are so unpredictable. These brave men and women that make up the crew. They're stronger than I am. I laid brick and block on the Browns stadium in 1998-99. Lake Erie was right across the street. We were "tarped in and heated". When it's -4°F and you're by that lake it's no joke. To be on a ship, I have to give every crew member their creds. Your cojones are greater than mine. 👍
Trust me on this, when you have about a half an hour, please listen to this. It’s the most fascinating piece of audio and you literally get sucked into that night when the Edmund Fitzgerald sank. This is the actual Coast Guard audio from that night. You’ll hear the Captain of the Arthur Anderson agreeing to go out to look for the Fitz. It’s unbelievable, it starts at 20 seconds. ruclips.net/video/C0Nk7Ou6YUg/видео.htmlsi=49bdU7ab0amR8-rN
Skeeter! What a great treat to see a comment from you. I’ve seen you a few times on DHC having some fun with everybody. Thanks for being part of this channel. Thanks for your enthusiasm and I really hope that you and your family have a wonderful holiday season. In this video, I can’t believe I recorded a guy getting stuck on the bridge. That was wild.
Big Paul is no joke! It’s a straight up beast. I still can’t believe that guy was stuck on the bridge and it was interesting to hear what he had to say, I can see how he got scared.
I promise I’ll keep making these videos. We are going to have a lot of fun towards the end of the year. A lot of these ships will be going into winter layout. I will record them for you. I promise you happy Friday.
I’m going to be making my way over to Duluth there this coming spring to watch some boats and camp local! Not sure what month yet, but definitely before it hits hot weather again. That ship is absolutely beautiful.
I definitely recommend these activities in Duluth. First, you must visit Anchor Bar in Superior, Wisconsin, just a short drive from Duluth. They have the best burgers, even featured on the TV show “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.” It’s cash only, so keep that in mind. This place is a must for ship lovers. If the weather cooperates, the best restaurant balcony is at Mexico Lindo in the Fitger’s complex. You can park in the ramp and make sure to get your parking ticket validated before leaving the restaurant. The view alone is worth the stop, and you will really enjoy it. You look out on Lake Superior and the Lift Bridge! One block from Lift Bridge, there’s a place called Father Time Antiques. It’s a really fun place to walk through, and I bet you’ll find some cool things to buy. Tons of interesting items to look at and purchase. Also, about 200 steps away from the antique shop is the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, which is another must-visit. Finally, make sure you visit the Maritime Museum right next to the bridge. It’s free and a great spot for anyone who loves ships.
My boyfriend and I lived in Lakeside in Muskegon. Late one evening before Christmas, I heard a short freighter blast. I grabbed the dog and we drove out to the South channel wall. A freighter was coming into Muskegon Lake. It had a big, lit Christmas tree on its self unloading boom. We raced down the parking lot to get to the sidewalk closest to the boat. The Captain blew us a salute. I'm not sure about the noise ordinance stuff with boats. But, this dalute was loud, long and very cool. We were so excited that we forgot to notice the name of the boat, but, thank you Captain.
Mike, many thanks for braving that cold weather to bring us another fantastic video. Merry Xmas to you and your family. Also to all the boat friends watching
I think I would brave any weather condition to see that beautiful PRT. It’s such a beast. It’s so powerful. I had no idea I would catch someone getting stuck on the bridge in their car.
The Queen of the Great Lakes is one of my favorites. I've watched a couple videos of people who got to take the tour with her. That would be an amazing trip. Thanks for sharing Mike! Your videos are always the best. ⚓️
We both know that that ship is one of the most beautiful of not the most beautiful in the world. There’s something about it length and it’s powerful look and that powerful horn. I love it so much. I know you agree with me.

That makes me wonder if there is a Plan-B. If a broken down car or pedestrians exist on the bridge, but the ship predicts that it cant stop in time, then presumably the bridge would lift while occupied ? I've never timed it, but when Ive been there it seems that the bridge goes up in a generous amount of time before the ship enters the area.
I’m sure they have some type of a game plan. One thing I can think about is that they always clear the bridge early that’s why it goes up so early for situations like this, if the bridge could not go up the ship would have to stop turn around and go out the superior entry on the Wisconsin side.
I was in Duluth Thanksgiving weekend. Didn’t get to see any ships this time. But seeing the ships have always been a favorite thing to do when I’m in Duluth. Thanks for posting this.
@ it was freezing. The wind was soo cold blowing on us as we walked to Bentleyville. I know the week after was warmer. But it was my first time in Duluth during the winter. I loved Bentleyville
As long as you made it to Bentleyville, that’s all that matters, many people have never been there. I believe there must be snow on the ground for Bentleyville. I went last year and there was extension cords and Grass on the ground.
Beautiful!! Night lights and Christmas. This ship is a beauty, have seen it in person too.The locks at the Soo,she is massive, such a sight to experience. Hopefully the locks are still open in 3 weeks
What did you think about that car staying on the bridge, the operator had to yell multiple times to have him leave. I knew I had to get an interview from him too.
The main bridge construction in the area, the Blatnik Bridge, connecting Duluth, Minnesota, to Superior, Wisconsin, is undergoing a significant replacement project due to its aging infrastructure and safety concerns. The project is currently in the preliminary design phase, which will continue until 2026. Final design work is scheduled for 2026-2027, with phased construction anticipated to begin in fall 2026. A full bridge closure is expected to start in early 2027, lasting approximately four years, during which traffic will be rerouted to the Bong Bridge. The entire project is projected to be completed by 2031. The estimated cost of the replacement is $1.8 billion, with funding secured through federal grants and contributions from both Minnesota and Wisconsin. The new bridge will be constructed along the existing alignment to minimize environmental and property impacts and will feature a 12-foot-wide multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists. The chosen design-build delivery method aims to enhance efficiency and reduce construction timelines. Once completed, the new bridge is expected to have a service life of 100 years, significantly improving safety and accommodating oversize and overweight freight.
Hi Mike and boat friends ! We have a lift bridge here in port stanley ontario And usually it is walkers going across that are the problem The gates go down There will be a que of boats lined up both sides in a tight channel trying to maintain position in the wind Walkers will take their own sweet time going across almost in defiance ! they have the right of way When i first seen the video It almost looked like he parked on the bridge so he could get a better look at the ship comming ! Then when the bridge operator was yelling at him to get off the bridge He statted it up the lights came on and he drove across ! Then when the monster ship slid by in the dark and the guy was standing there it let out a mighty blast with its horn Saying DONT DO IT AGAIN ! Another awsome video Mike ! That ship would have no problem taking out that bridge They probably make sure the bridge is up before they make the turn in case thy have to stick the ship in the bank even going slow it is not going to stop Everybody have a great day !
Carl, I was doing my normal thing recording and then a car stopped in the middle of the bridge. I didn’t know for sure what was going on, but I heard the Bridge operator telling someone to move their car. I heard it a second time and then I started seeing the vehicle moving. It all came together when I interviewed the guy in the car. He was very scared. He thought that he was going to get stuck on that bridge going up. I’m glad everybody was OK but it sure made it kind of tense for a minute.

I was finishing my Christmas during the “Live” but was able to see what you had recorded,Mike. I live where I can’t get too far from my house without going over a bridge, it is also a Tourist area, mostly in the Summer. It can be rather terrifying if you don’t know the proper procedure with the bridge. He was able to get off and see the biggest ship! What a night! I wonder what it would be like to BE on the bridge as it raises, what a view that would be. I bet the crew are taking pictures, I would. Fair Winds and Following Seas to the Captain and Crew as they traverse Lake Superior. The Salute is a surprise when it DOES sound. Thanks, again, Mike. Get something warm to drink.

Another beauty Mike -the combination of the Bentleyville lights, the low ceiling reflecting the city lights and the silhouette of the PRT makes this one of your best. Merry Christmas!
I hope you have a merry Christmas my friend. This was a unique situation catching a vehicle that was stuck on the bridge and finally got off. I’m glad they listened to the Bridge operator. It was interesting in getting to interview from him as well.

Dude, that was really cool! Beautiful video work also! As a Navy pilot way back in the early to mid 80’s I buzzed many of these ships in the Mediterranean while flying off of the Carrier. Still have pics of a good number of them from the Cannon AE-1 with a 100mm lens that was given to us for recce. This thing is a monster. Quite the site. Quite the serene, quiet, winter setting. I do feel very lucky, that’s why I tried to share as much of it as I can. I respect all of the crew members that work hard on those ships. They are working hard from their families, and many times they don’t get to see their families that much. Lots of respect for all of the people on those ships
The PRT is certainly a sight to behold! The bridge and the fire looks awesome! Imagine you didn't know there was a bridge house and suddenly you hear him CAR PLEASE CROSS THE BRIDGE!!! Poor guy! The lighting and the cold makes everything appear so crisp tonight. I appreciate that, thanks for watching! How can you go wrong with looking at the powerful PRT. Also, it got kind of interesting with that car on the bridge.
Man, that looks cold. But it's actually colder here in Newfoundland. -1C at about 6 PM and we're due for a storm tomorrow. But I have lots of firewood.
I gotta get that snowman rolling. That boat from snowman he’s been having a lot of fun in the cold. What did you think about that guy getting stuck on the bridge? When I talked with him, he did admit to us he was scared on the camera.
Wow, is that ship long. A beauty for sure. It's interesting that it converts/cleans the diesel smoke into steam. The ship seemed to be moving right along. Im glad the car got off the bridge ok. He must have been shocked to be in that situation.
I remember hearing a story about a lady that wouldn’t/couldn’t get off the bridge in time. It started to raise and then she panicked. It got towards the top and she jumped off instead of just waiting for it to lower back down.
I'm a southern boy that lives near Lake Erie south of Cleveland. I loved the Gulf Coast but I have learned a whole different respect for the Great Lakes in the winter. I've seen more weather created in the winter than I saw in the Gulf in the summer and hurricane season. I lived in Brandon Fla for 16 years and Mobile Alabama for 3 and no hurricanes. Lived in Memphis for 6 years and Camille nailed us. My point is weather is random and we never know what's going to happen til it hits.
You lived in some really cool spots, a lot of interesting different things you must have experienced. I totally agree with you with weather, a lot of times we hear about these huge snowstorms that will come, then nothing happens. And then the opposite. You have to respect mother nature. Looks like you have some great looking dogs in the photo.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment! It truly means a lot to hear from someone who is part of the crew on the Paul R. Tregurtha. You are part of a group of hardworking individuals who keep the Great Lakes maritime industry moving, and we have the utmost respect for everything you do. It’s not just me, but all of the Boat Friends community deeply admire the dedication and skill it takes to work on the water. The Paul R. Tregurtha is a favorite among so many of us, and knowing someone like you is part of its legacy makes it even more special. We’re grateful for the hard work you do and the sacrifices that come with a life on the water. Thank you for taking the time to reach out and connect with us. If you have any stories or insights about your experience on the Tregurtha, we’d love to hear them. It’s always fascinating to learn more about life aboard such an incredible ship. Are you still part of the crew? Your perspective is invaluable, and you’re exactly the kind of person we all enjoy hearing from. Thank you again for everything you do it doesn’t go unnoticed!
Big time happy Friday to you, my friend! I see you on the harbor cam chat once in a while. Thank you for having so much passion with the ships. We have such a great community people that love these ships. Also, I thought it was cool to get the interview from that guy that got stuck on the bridge. I just had to know what he was thinking.
I’ve never turned on notifications for any of my subscriptions but your enthusiasm makes these videos so now you post,I watch…….in high school it would of been”Driver, This is God. My friend ST Pete is just one bad decision away. Time to get across the bridge partner”
You really made my day with this comment, that is so cool. I think my enthusiasm comes from just feeling like a kid again when I see these ships. Hearing the bell go off with the bridge and hearing the horns with the ship, no matter what’s going on in life, the ships can make us all feel much more Full of life and they are so positive at that
I’m really grateful that your friend sent you this link as well!
People could stand in when the bridge was going up years ago. cdn.forumcomm.com/dims4/default/7c630e8/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1180x1800+0+0/resize/699x1066!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fforum-communications-production-web.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com%2Fbrightspot%2F76%2Fe3%2F3fcdb709455d8c07d8fef707eaaf%2Fridescage2-ll.JPG
I never get tired of watching that monster churn through the canal especially at night all lit up like that. Great video
I can see how confusing a first time crossing the bridge would be, so many distractions with bells and lights going off. Glad he made it off in time to watch the PRT from ground level instead of an aerial view. 😅
When I lived at the Jersey Shore, a draw bridge would go up and people would shut the car off and walk over to watch the boats pass, waving, of course. By the time the bridge went back down, everyone was back in their vehicle, ready to roll. It is still one of my favorite memories. Thank you, Mike. Glad you had a chance to chat with a new boat friend from South Dakota. You probably put his mind at ease with your kindness. 😊
It was really a treat to have a boat friend from South Dakota check in.
@ I bet he was grateful for your conversation and reassurance!!!
Beautiful 🚢⚓ ship. I had no idea these monsters sailed the Great Lakes. I'm in absolute awe!
Yes, they are giants out there in the lake, there’s no doubt about it. I hope you’re doing great.
Your video artistry and cinematography are continually improving, Mike. That view of the lift bridge from below… your vantage point… the lighting… and all of the structure’s detail? Sublime. Congrats - and thanks! 🙌🏻
That is such a nice compliment, I’m such a rookie when it comes to recording ships. There’s no way I’m a photographer. I just have fun out there.
Mike, braving the cold for us to see the PRT up close and personal again. It never gets old! That horn blast either. Glad that driver was safe and sound ⚓️🚢❤️
That horn will wake anybody up
I get suggestions for PRT on RUclips after googling it a year ago as it passed by Belle Isle. It’s like therapy watching these ships pass by.
I was in Belle Isle earlier this year
It never gets old seeing the PRT!! Such a gentle giant gracefully passing thru the canal. Nice video Mike!! Have a great weekend! SKOL Vikings!!
What a salute! Perfect spot to capture it. Thanks Mike! Stay warm!
Thanks! I hope you have a great day! It was really cool to interview that driver that was stuck on the bridge
Thanks!
Frank the tank! What’s up, brother? Thank you so much for the generous donation of NZ$2! Your support truly means a lot and helps keep the channel going strong. It’s amazing to have someone like you in this community, and I’m so grateful for your kindness.

Trust me, I was not expecting someone to get stuck on the bridge during this video. It made for a few tense moments.
@@vibewithmikeit certainly did. Great that you managed to speak with him 😊
It was interesting to see all of that happen in this video
Hello Mike and friends! Hope everyone had a great week!
I hope you’re doing great. This is a fun weekend video to start things off. I’ve never encountered this situation on the bridge.
Something I learned...the lift bridge used to be a "Transporter" bridge.
Fascinating.
Thanks for the vibe, Mike
That’s exactly right, here’s a photo of that original bridge. www.perfectduluthday.com/2020/12/22/aerial-transfer-bridge-circa-1905/

Checkmate, thank you so much for taking time out of your night to check this out
I have had the opportunity to meet Mr. Paul Tregurtha more than a few times, a lovely man.
How cool is that! Tim, how was he in person. I’m sure he knows his ship that everybody talks about.
Thanks for sharing Mike best wishes from Liverpool Uk 🇬🇧
Best wishes right back to you in Liverpool! What did you think about that driver getting stuck on the bridge? He was scared he told us.🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
This is a bridge crossing that the driver will never forget!
I can see how someone not familiar with the bridge could get confused. I’m glad he’s ok and got to enjoy the ship.
Everything worked out great
Not too many bridges lift to let a huge ship go under it, that's for sure! Glad the bridge operator can communicate via loud speaker to help any confused visitors. The Tregurtha is so amazing to hear and see, and it definitely sounds louder from the south pier! Haha. That was quite a moment you captured Mike! Bentleyville is so pretty!
I think it was cool to record that driver and what he had to say
Bentleyville looks really good now with all of the snow on the ground
Where was the snowman ☃️
Way to go Mike! I love seeing that beast roll by. 👍👍
Absolutely, MAGNIFICENT. Thank you, Sir. Paul , New York City
I’m glad you loved the video, Paul.

This will help you determine exactly where the ship is in live time.

I do enjoy chatting with the folks. Makes it a little more personal...and fun.@vibewithmike
I agree with you! It’s fun getting to know these ships. They are all different. It’s really fun.
Always like seeing the big Paul rolling through the channel! The horn is always a treat! Thanks for giving us a look Mike!
Big Paul is no joke! It’s a straight up beast. I still can’t believe that guy was stuck on the bridge and it was interesting to hear what he had to say, I can see how he got scared.
Mike, I know I'll never get tired of telling you how much I LOVE your videos. What a thrill to see the PRT again! Thank you.🙂
I promise I’ll keep making these videos. We are going to have a lot of fun towards the end of the year. A lot of these ships will be going into winter layout. I will record them for you. I promise you happy Friday.

The coolest ship ever
This channel is addicting! What a giant of a ship! Watched it come in on the Deluth harbor cam with my other favorite ahip the Alpena and the stykes.
Guess what my friend, I have a great one with the Sykes coming in a few days! I know you will like it. Ice on it too.
I’m going to be making my way over to Duluth there this coming spring to watch some boats and camp local! Not sure what month yet, but definitely before it hits hot weather again. That ship is absolutely beautiful.
Duluth is a cold weather city. I say June would be best. It is really nice there in the summer! Fall leaves pass and its brutal for 7 months
2 seasons winter and July 4th
That’s a good one! I heard winter and construction
Massive ship !!!! Thank you for explaining it all !
You bet! Glad you enjoyed the video! I really was not expecting a catch a situation where a car was stuck on the bridge
I wish my (Navy) father was alive to see these vids. He would have absolutely been filled with joy! Thank you for sharing!

Just another comment from a old guy, back in the 1990 s in December, flew out of Chicago,my home town,in December,it was 20 below zero,Farrenheight, landed in Minnie,it was thirty below, dot on a Northwest airline DC9,flew into Winnepeg,it was 35 elbow Fahrenheit,my buddy and I were the only two guys on that airplane, this would not of happened today, walking through the Winnepeg airport, there was no other people there only the workers!people were coming up to us asking us were we were going! We said waiting for our contact ,we were going wolf hunting 100 miles or so north of there on the Manitoba Ontario border,I had a digital temperature gauge,it read forty below ,in the bush,at 76 years old today,I think I would of been, shipped back to Chicago in a pine box,did not seem to bother the wolf,at all!Memories!Thomas A.Filipiak!
Tom, when it’s 20 below zero, I definitely think twice about it 😂😂🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
Good job. Thank you.
Yeah, but we booked the hunt, through Halley’s Camps in Ontario, and paid a lot up front, plus,we were nuts!
Jane, thank you so much, friend
Tom, that ship is no joke, it’s awesome
It’s really cool that you were able to talk to the driver of that car. I’m glad he just kept moving. Those ships cannot stop on a dime!!!
I had to find out the scoop why all of that happened on the bridge in that car
Excellent as always Mike!! Thank you! She's such a beautiful lady! She takes my breath away!!
And such a huge powerful ship
I was in Duluth Thanksgiving weekend. Didn’t get to see any ships this time. But seeing the ships have always been a favorite thing to do when I’m in Duluth. Thanks for posting this.
What was the weather like there during Thanksgiving, if I recall, it was pretty good
@ it was freezing.
@@vibewithmike I got a lot of pictures and videos. Sadly my phone died right before we got to the roasting marshmallow area

We will see, I believe it’s January 15 when everything has to get lockdown
How cool....or cold is that!!!??? The Queen gave us a great salute! Thanks MIke, another one in the books for us boat friends!!
What did you think about that car staying on the bridge, the operator had to yell multiple times to have him leave. I knew I had to get an interview from him too.
@@vibewithmike That was funny, you know, that very well could've been me!! That's the kind of stuff that happens to me all the time!!! ha!!!
@ I can totally see how someone would get scared. If you’ve never been on that bridge and all of that happens. What do you do?
When will the bridge work be completed, the last two years the detours are not great?
We have a lift bridge here in port stanley ontario
And usually it is walkers going across that are the problem
The gates go down
There will be a que of boats lined up both sides in a tight channel trying to maintain position in the wind
Walkers will take their own sweet time going across almost in defiance !
they have the right of way
When i first seen the video
It almost looked like he parked on the bridge so he could get a better look at the ship comming !
Then when the bridge operator was yelling at him to get off the bridge
He statted it up the lights came on and he drove across !
Then when the monster ship slid by in the dark and the guy was standing there it let out a mighty blast with its horn
Saying
DONT DO IT AGAIN !
Another awsome video Mike !
That ship would have no problem taking out that bridge
They probably make sure the bridge is up before they make the turn in case thy have to stick the ship in the bank even going slow it is not going to stop
Everybody have a great day !

Hey Jeff, I’m glad that you were able to meet up with your cousin. It’s so crazy how fast Christmas comes. It seems like we were just talking about it and now it’s here again.
Robin, I got very nervous for that car. I’m glad everything turned on good. We both know that that view has to be incredible at the very top. Someday I hope to record it for you. All the best to you and a happy Friday night.
Has any vehicle not made it across and gone up with the bridge? PRT what a vessel and that horn.what a beast. Bon voyage.
I don’t think so, the Bridge operator does a great job keeping track of everything with an elaborate camera system

I was fortunate to have done service work on the dish machine on this when it was over-Wintering in Sturgeon Bay. The crew gave me a tour of the ship and invited me to lunch. Best prime rib I ever had. Was told to come back for lunch any time I was in SB on a Thursday ( prime rib day).

Happy holidays! PT is my favorite. It’s the longest ship on the great lakes. The truth is, it’s the longest ship in the world.
Heck no! How could one ever get tired of a video of the PRT? And that horn?? Let 'er rip captain! 🚢 ⚓️
The horn is such a magical thing. I love it. It just cuts through you with the power. This ship is so impressive, we both love this one. I know it.
Thanks!
Huge respect over to Dave! I respect anybody that put on the uniform. Thank you so much for your service and stepping up to the plate for our country. I’m a big aviation fan as well. You can catch me watching SR 71 videos and skunk works videos as well. I love all of that.
Hi everyone from Grand Rapids Michigan. 30 degrees and snowing. Merry Christmas
Hey, friend, Merry Christmas to you as well! Glad you’re watching the video! It’s a little warmer here, but we’ve got some snow too. All the best to you and your family in Grand Rapids.
I love your videos. Informative, and respectful to the men who man these ships. I know it’s cold there, but you are so lucky to be able to witness this.
I do feel very lucky, that’s why I tried to share as much of it as I can. I respect all of the crew members that work hard on those ships. They are working hard from their families, and many times they don’t get to see their families that much. Lots of respect for all of the people on those ships
Ah Mike - a sight to behold indeed!! It's been three years since I've been home, and I can't thank you enough for posting these videos.❤
Glad you like them! PRT is one of the most beautiful ships out there
The PRT is certainly a sight to behold! The bridge and the fire looks awesome! Imagine you didn't know there was a bridge house and suddenly you hear him CAR PLEASE CROSS THE BRIDGE!!! Poor guy! The lighting and the cold makes everything appear so crisp tonight. It always scares me a little when a ship that is so imposing goes into the big black lake knowing that against nature nothing is really 100% unsinkable. I hope you have the best of weekends Mike! 😀🤚
My friend in South Africa! I hope you’re doing great. I really was not expecting this guy to do that crazy stuff with the car. However, you could hear what he said. He got very scared. I hope you’re doing great, everybody settling in for the next two weeks and the holiday season.
@@vibewithmike I am doing okay thank you man! Hope you are doing great as well! I dont blame him! alarms on the bridge... A thousand footer heading your way... Thats a little distressing haha! Have a great Saturday Mike! 🙂🙌
Johan, it’s a perfect example why the Bridge goes up so early. Because things like this can happen. It’s all about safety
@@vibewithmike I agree. Proper preparation prevents problems... As the saying goes haha!
👍👍👍⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
That was more than impressive, wish I could have been there .
I will keep recording these powerful ships for you, Pat
Awesome video thanks as always Mike!!
Must be really something to see such a huge marvel of engineering up close!!! Thanks again for bringing these videos boat friend!
There’s a powerful beast! I really love this ship. I was really stunned when I saw that car sitting on the bridge like that. It was cool to record that.
Wow. Another great video in the can @vibe with Mike . Interviewing the driver was a bonus. Thank you.
I really had to know what was going through his mind
Awesome Mike as usual. Keep up the good work and thanks for the video.
You bet, I’ll keep making them.
One of my favorites! Great video, as always!
I appreciate that, thanks for watching! How can you go wrong with looking at the powerful PRT. Also, it got kind of interesting with that car on the bridge.
@ yes, it did. Poor guy probably never had a bridge give him an order before. That would surprise the heck out of me too!
He was a nice guy, I talked to him a little after I did the video after interview interviewed him
Man, that looks cold. But it's actually colder here in Newfoundland. -1C at about 6 PM and we're due for a storm tomorrow. But I have lots of firewood.
Such a clear picture! Thank you for sharing
It's a beautiful view!
Fascinating video with great perspectives! Very good job. Never gets old. Thanks!
Cheryl, I know what you mean, it’s always fun watching the ships. Even though we’ve seen them 1000 times, they never get old.
Magnificent video yet again, Mike, but you forgot the Boat Friends Snowman, unless I missed it. We like him, too.
I gotta get that snowman rolling. That boat from snowman he’s been having a lot of fun in the cold. What did you think about that guy getting stuck on the bridge? When I talked with him, he did admit to us he was scared on the camera.
I was more scared than he was.
Me too, after I realized what was going on
Watching that monster never gets old..Thanks Mike
It’s such a powerful beast of a ship
Wow, is that ship long. A beauty for sure. It's interesting that it converts/cleans the diesel smoke into steam. The ship seemed to be moving right along. Im glad the car got off the bridge ok. He must have been shocked to be in that situation.
You could tell he was nervous about what happened when I interviewed him
I remember hearing a story about a lady that wouldn’t/couldn’t get off the bridge in time. It started to raise and then she panicked. It got towards the top and she jumped off instead of just waiting for it to lower back down.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
@@vibewithmike the little fur ball was a neighbor's. I'm shocked you replied so soon. Lol
Hey! You had me when you said Brandon, FL!
I have seen her a few times it the St. Lawrence. The 4K was impressive!! I regret not making the trip up to Duluth on my St. Paul visit in October.
I would have loved to see the PRT in the St. Lawrence. I've been watching the videos of the locks in the St. Lawrence - awesome!
Ha! I’m on the deck in the high viz jacket at 0:36! That was in 2018/19 near the end of the season at Sarnia-Port Huron.
Merry Christmas to you and yours Mike🎄🎅...Thank you for your continued effort and creating a great community!⚓️
Merry Christmas to you, my friend
2:21 just a gorgeous ocean.. 😂 just unreal how much the lake looks like the Oregon coast ❤
Hearing the bell go off with the bridge and hearing the horns with the ship, no matter what’s going on in life, the ships can make us all feel much more Full of life and they are so positive at that
Thank you so much for sharing that information. We love that area and watching your videos.
What a very nice comment to leave on a Saturday. I wish you the best. Thank you so much. Beautiful profile photo as well.
I'm grateful my friend sent me this! I'll be subscribing! Great work!

Welcome to the channel Mary. Great to have you here.
You do such a great job. Great camera angle on The Paul.
Thanks for the feedback! I try to get the best shot.
Being from VA I would've probably freaked out a tad myself!! 😄 I'm glad everything worked out well. Nice video!, Mike! You must love pretty close to be on the scene so quick Keep up the fantastic work. -Doc
I was not expecting to see a possible bad situation occur with a car stuck on the bridge
As cold as it is I bet the PRT in shrunk down to 1012.5ft. 9 degrees in north Iowa. Enjoyed the video. Thank you Mike!
It’s a huge beast.
Thanks for a great 2024 and Merry Christmas!
You have a wonderful Christmas as well
That was awesome. Thank you for the great video!
It’s a pleasure, thank you for taking the time to write a nice comment on a Friday
