    Despite being some 200kg heavier, down on torque, and without expensive options like ceramic brakes, the RC F matches the M4's lap time. And it has actually outrun the BMW in AMCI's track test. Shockingly astonishing results that truly show Lexus' engineering prowess.

  • @Sandouras
    @Sandouras 8 лет назад +71

    I think it should have been the same guy who drives both cars (or both guys driving both cars) just so that the comparison would be better. Also, instead of giving double points, you could have given normal points for the lap time, and then score the way it makes you feel. Sometimes the fastest car isnt always the funnest or the most exciting one.

    I think that people can't stand the fact that Lexus is no longer reliable work horse ONLY. They are now exciting to look at (in my opinion), clearly very good performance cars, and they still have their quality which to me matters a lot. I don't have too much damn money to keep fixing the damn car every month. Lexus is is kind of like Cadillac. Both brands used to be boring and nothing to be excited about, but now, complete turn around. I will always like M series, but all these brands are starting to give BMW, Audi, Mercedes run for their money. Get over it people, times change and so does everything else.

    A testamant to the chassis engineering in the RC-F that such a heavier car without all the costly brakes and dual clutch tranny the BMW has can almost match it on the track and with less effort from the driver.

    • @gw7624
      @gw7624 8 лет назад +1

      +Slimecrazy234 It isn't really a testament to engineering when Lexus produce a supposed sports car that is so much heavier than its main rival and with such poor weight-distribution. Making a car the size of an M4 that weighs around 1500kg is extremely difficult, and the difference in weight between the two reflects the difference in engineering between them. Let's not forget, the Lexus also has more power, a more advanced LSD and a more progressive power delivery thanks to its natural aspiration.

    • @Slimecrazy234
      @Slimecrazy234 8 лет назад +7

      +GPD W The weight is due to the RC being based on a hybrid of 3 platforms, the IS at the front, the IS Convertible at the mid-section, and the GS at the rear. The M4 is based on a beefed up 3 series chassis.
      Yet despite that additional weight and less torque, the chassis is able to keep up with the lighter M4 on the track. If the RC-F weighed as little as the M4, it would likely destroy it on the track. That says a lot about the suspension engineering in the Lexus.

    • @gw7624
      @gw7624 8 лет назад

      Slimecrazy234 " The weight is due to the RC being based on a hybrid of 3 platforms"
      Take a look at the dimensions of the two cars. There's very little difference - certainly nothing that would explain a 200kg weight penalty.
      "Yet despite that additional weight and less torque, the chassis is able to keep up with the lighter M4 on the track."
      It has a similar power/weight ratio and torque only really matters for manual transmissions. Most automatics do a good of keeping the engine within its power band. If anything, the RC F's naturally aspirated engine is an advantage over the M4 because it gives a more progressive power delivery. The M4's turbos make the rear end more difficult to control, which is why you'll see the M4 sliding more than its rivals.
      " If the RC-F weighed as little as the M4, it would likely destroy it on the track."
      The only reason the RC F doesn't get totally humiliated by the M4 is its more advanced torque-vectoring system, which probably explains some of the weight difference between the two. If the M4 employed the same torque vectoring system, the gap between them would be huge.

    • @lexusgs4604
      @lexusgs4604 8 лет назад +2

      +GPD W the BMW has more torque on paper and more horsepower in real world. We all know BMW underrates the power of their cars. there is a dyno video of the m4 and after removing transmission hp lost, the bhp is around 480.

    • @lexusgs4604

    i don't know, but a car that weights so much and has slightly less power to weight ratio and is still able to keep up with a really good M division car with carbon ceramic breaks and DCT is quite impressive engineering there. great job lexus and good job BMW for always being the great performance car. love both cars but i would probably go with the lexus for its resale value, reliability, V8 and standout looks.

    • @miljororforsprakpartiet290
      @miljororforsprakpartiet290 8 лет назад +1

      Toyota4Life LOL man, Lexus = Toyota in the same way as Infiniti = Nissan, Audi = Seat = VW = Skoda, Volvo = Ford, Cadillac = Saab = Opel/Vauxhall, Chevrolet = Daewoo and the upcoming brand Genesis = Hyundai (which was earlier the very Hyundai Genesis). Lexuses have also been branded and re-badged as Toyotas in many parts of the world, shared the same components, and so on.
      LF-A is also a supercar, BMW doesn't have a supercar (Except for the 8-series supercar pretender back in the 90's). You can't compare Toyota Altezzas to IS-F and say Lexuses in general are expensive just because 0.0001% is.

    Tires can make a huge difference on track, as well as improving track conditions as we see here. We see the media bash Lexus often, but we rarely hear them mention reliability, cost of ownership and resale. BMW have many more problems than Lexus, and when they do, they're known to leave customers twisting in the wind. BMW and Porsche still haven't learned to treat their customers like Toyota/Lexus have, and that's a big reason I buy Toyota and Lexus products.

      +lessismore Not true. In the real world the owners that buy these cars are gonna race them against other people. In the real world the M4 is almost no faster then the RCF and that says alot about the RCF because it weights more and its still able to match the M4. Bravo Lexus

    what ? guys, u blame the iphone & the pretty much identical drivers ? funny... ceramic brakes and -200kg matters here. -> these drivers are professionals, even their reaction time to push a touchscreen is way better than you think. therefore Lexus much better car. BMW reliability is also struggling against the japananese elite. Sorry, germany lost this round. get over it. RCF is the future, M is the past.

    That may be true but if you put both cars together on a street and ask all who pass what they prefer to buy for their hard earned cash, I believe it would favour the BMW

    • @rogergeyer9851
      @rogergeyer9851 7 лет назад +1

      RM K: Because they love having their car in the shop and paying a lot for BMW repairs? Doubtful.

    • @RMK67
      @RMK67 7 лет назад

      Roger Geyer or you can be an intelligent and astute buyer and negotiate a service agreement with your purchase, unlike your cheap Toyota badged Lexus 😱

    • @rogergeyer9851
      @rogergeyer9851 7 лет назад +1

      RM K: You don't seem to get it. The Toyota badge on the Lexus makes it GOOD re quality, durability, and reputation. Calling that "cheap" is mighty stupid, when you're comparing it to a BMW, with a horrible reputation for durability AND very expensive repairs.
      And a hint: service contracts are based on how likely the car is to break. So for example, GM extended warranties were MUCH more expensive than similar extended Toyota warranties in the 90's because -- Toyota's cars were so much more durable.
      So, go ahead, add an expensive extended warranty / service contract to your unreliable and expensive BMW. I'll stick with "cheap" Toyota over that every time, thank you very much.

    • @RMK67
      @RMK67 7 лет назад

      And thats the crucial word - "CHEAP TOYOTA" - enjoy the Corolla bud... :) I'll stick to my M4

    • @rogergeyer9851
      @rogergeyer9851 7 лет назад +1

      RM K: I owned a Corolla for awhile. Great car re efficiency and practicality. Not that I'd expect you to understand that.
      I consider my Infiniti G37 superior to your M4, when the total experience, including durability is taken into account. And being "cheap", I got it 3 years old with 20K miles at about half the price of new, but it was essentially as good as new.
      I'd far rather be "cheap" like that then an M4 fanboi, but it takes all kinds. Enjoy your long term repair bills.

    • @Sandouras
      @Sandouras 8 лет назад +1

      +Audiwan Kenobi For some reason the launch control on the m4 is shit and the car ends up burning up its tyres. So even an Astra might be faster than it. Without using LC on any car, i'd say that you're right, the m4 should be quicker.

    • @SaMaster18
      @SaMaster18 8 лет назад +1

      +Audiwan Kenobi Agreed. The launch control is really just burn-out mode on the F8x M3/4. I've been able to produce a much more successful launch with traction completely off and simply feathering the throttle to produce less wheelspin off the line. also, cold and wet play a big role considering the mounds of low-end torque the BMW has compared to the heavier Lexus with a NA V8.
