I have a 2015 with air suspension. To make the rear bags last longer, turn off the Aeromode setting under Suspension and don't use the lowest setting to get in and out of your truck. The rear bags, generally, only leak in the lowest setting, by the fold that you showed in the video.
That is correct. I actually have lifting links connected to my ride hight sensors, so it always rides 1.75 inches over stock. And i always put it in off-road 1 when i park it in the garage, and they still only last 5-6 years. But great advice!!
@bustos257 i made my own. It was a long time ago, so i dont remember all the part numbers, but now they sell kits on eBay that are essentially the same thing. I just typed in ram 1500 air ride lifting links, and they poped up!
Thank you for the great video. I’m having issues and the dealership wants a fortune. It looks like you have a jack stand keeping it at tire hight I’m guessing? Is that right. And the other jack to bring it up and then down on that stand so the spring locks in? Thank you.
You're very welcome!! Yes, just install the bag or bags, and then the truck will do the rest. I always put it in off road 2 after i install bags for the compressor to fill the system up. It doesn't take long.
Great video, thanks. I've got a 2019 1500 5th gen. I swapped out 2 leaky air lines connections on the compressor, but the system won't air up. The compressor runs, then overheats without changing my ride height. I checked for suction on the intake hose of my compressor and don't feel any. Think my compressor is shot? Would filling with nitrogen possibly help?
@samashbaugh1414 sounds like a compressor. Nitrogen shouldn't change the no pumping problem. Maybe there still is a big leak somewhere that the air is escaping from?.
I have the same issue with my left rear airbag on my 2017 ram 1500. I have ordered a new airbag from amazon. Just to clarify. Once you pull out the old airbag and replace it do you inflate it before lowering down the truck onto the suspension. I have heard if you don't do the initial inflation properly they explode. I just want to make sure I do this in the right sequence to avoid the explosion issue.
I dont know about any explosion issues. other then if the bag gets inflated and the bag is all crooked in the sleeve like i said in the video, it probably could explode. I would just install it, and with the tire still off, then put down the jack from under the truck and just inspect the air bag while inflating, or after it did inflate. The bag can go all crooked in the outer bag sleeve. Thats probably what they are talking about. Make sure the bag in properly inflated before i would pit on the tire.
@MalConsejo9 you dont, the system pumps it back in. If you watch the video it tells you what to do. The system is not a closed system like they claim. And air in 90 percent nitrogen. You just have to add some air line antifreeze to get rid of moisture in the system. Then your ready to go.
Great video, do you install both new rear bags at the same time and then lower the truck down and have both bags re align just fine? I too am worried about exploding bags
Been flawless, hauled a load of cattle last week with the cattle trailer on to get a good workout out of them, i kid u not they look exactly like the mopar ones. Very impressed so far.
I replaced both rear bags almost exactly a year ago. Talked myself out of being "cheap" and went with the "top of the line" Arnotts. Wife pulled in the driveway yesterday and i could hear a hissing sound as soon as she shut it down. Turns out the plastic "top hat" is cracking and allowing air to leak out. So much for paying for quality stuff. Now I see that Arnott discontinued this model earlier this year and replaced them with a new model that they describe as more "heavy duty". They also reduced the warranty from lifetime to 2 years. What a racket. 😡
I have the immediate service needed message. Just had the front suspension redone because one was leaking. Thinking they didn't reset the sensors or something like that. I'll try pulling the fuse. Do I pull it with the truck on or on and running? I used TRQ for the front suspension. Great build quality and materials. Waaay cheaper than Mopar!
They are working great. I just typed in air bags for ram 1500, and you know they are adter market when you see the price difference, lol. They are like $150 Canadian per bag vs. About $1000, i made sure the ones i found were sold from a US website, not china. But they all come from china. And i also made sure they had a 2-year warranty.
James, I am looking to do this soon just picked up new rear airbags. Question: do you put the truck into exit/extry mode, disable the system and then change out the bags??? I don’t want to lose a ton of nitrogen, just had it refilled and the stealership charged $300 to fill.. trying to avoid that… I can give you my email if you’d like to correspond directly. Any hints you can give me would be greatly appreciated from a retired cop! Thanks!!
If you would put it into entry/exit mode, it would keep more nitrogen in the system, yes. Then i would put it in tire jack mode in the setting like i showed. That way, the pump won't turn on and cycle when you start changing out the bags! The system is not as complicated as they make it out to be. The steps i give you in the video should finish off the process. Be sure once the bags are installed to start the truck and put it in off road 1or 2 and make sure those bags are not inflating crooked like i show in the video. Thats probably the most important step. You want the bags inflating strait up and down.
James another question for you. Since I am putting the vehicle in exit/entry mode when I put on the new air bags should I also compress the new bags since the truck thinks that all the air/nitrogen has been evacuated and once I get the air line on (hopefully iam able to keep the bag compressed) then go into the truck and put it to level 2 and then put the fuse back in and let it do its thing? Just don’t want the control module under the seat going bonkers because there might be latent air in the bags… making any sense??
@missyvanwinkle9159 However, the bags stay while installing them is fine. You dont need to keep them completely compressed, but i think somwhat compressed is the best way to install them. But if not all the way, it should be fine.
I have the same year 2014 Limited. Having the same troubles on the rear suspension. Where did you get the airbags from and did you look it up through the OEM part number?
I got them off ebay, i just typed in 2014 ram 1500 rear factory air bags. They are all the same on all models from 2013-2018 so far mine are holding up great.
@@jamespenner1412 Thanks just ordered mine. When you are removing the hose from the old air bag are just using a wrench? Also when installing the line to the new bag do you have to tighten a certain amount or do anything else?
@joshv2445 you just have to un do the air line fitting and jack up the truck, and the bags pop out. When putting the fitting into the air bag, spin it in with your fingers the first few rounds, then snug it up with the wrench, go till it's snug, not too tight. You can always check your fittings after with soapy water to make sure no air is coming out
@2010asbel I would set it to entry exit and then jack the rear end of the truck up with a jack so the bags are free. Make sure you put it in tire jack mode before you start jacking or pull the fuse so the compressor doesn't turn on in the middle of the job, though.
I've got a '16 and my airbag on the right rear will sometimes bottom out just sitting at a light. What's really strange is, it never happens all the time, only randomly. If I air up to Off Road 1 before the pump overheats , sometimes it'll stay up just fine as long as I keep it under 40. Did you ever experience something like that? Any ideas?
Yes thats the exact thing they do. In off road 1 or 2 it pinches off the cracks and then it stays full but on lower settings they leak. Its a classic sign your rear bags are shot. Id recommend doing both rear bags.
I have owned my truck long enough that all those symptoms have come up. Even if you pin point the bag in the back that is leaking, it wont be long till you have trouble with the other. If you do them both in the rear you should be good for 5+ years without problems. I would make sure to put air line antifreeze in the system after you do the job. It takes out moisture and ensures problem free service in the cold!
Hi I have a 2014 Dodge ram 1500 and the front air suspension goes down in overnight and comes up when I start the truck. But I just realized that it started to do all the time when I turn off the car and leave it for 1 hour and it goes down a little bit and comes up when I start it. Do you have any idea what is that?

I checked mopar parts, and they have different part numbers then mine, but look the same or very similar in the photos. Mught be worth trying to save some serious money. I can't find any aftermarket ones that say they fit the 5th gen body style.
You dont have to if you put air line antifreeze in. The system is not a sealed system like they tell you. The pump has no problem pumping in the air back in. But outside air has moisture in it so thats why you need the airline antifreeze. Works flawless after that.
$1000 per bag, plus they would like to replace the pump at the same time. Which is another $2000 Canadian. When i do it, i buy both rear bags for $300 total and a bit of time. It probably takes an hour on each side.
My ram has a massage "the air system its cooling down please wait" any clue why this massage? Most of the time its level right but some times goes all the way down, and then the trailer break system massage show up,
First id check to see if the pump turns on and cycles when you try lifing it to a higher setting. Then id spray soap and water on the front air bag connectors to see if its leaking from a fitting.
