Fjallraven Vidda Pro Trousers - light and rainproof?

  • I have owned lots of outdoor trousers in the past. If I am out on dry days I normally chuck some Crye Precision G3s on. However if it is wet I have previously struggled. The options I have selected in the past have ranged from useless to dry but to hot and pretty much all were quite uncomfortable, sweaty or both. So this year I bought my first ever garment from the legendary Fjallraven. These Vidda Pro trousers are made from Fjallkravens G1000 material and provide a great blend of robustness and comfort. They are not to hot or sweaty and have a high degree of resistance to water thanks to the wax. You can of course add more wax if and when needed.
I absolutely love them and will be buying more Fjallkraven items following this good experience.

Great video. I thought that I was out of my mind spending so much on a pair of trousers, but after a few weeks of wearing for Golf, hiking, biking, kayaking, hunting, bushwhacking and outdoor activities, I ended up buying 4 more pairs, three Fjall Raven belts, two bars of Greenland wax and a Fjall Raven Skogso Heavy padded jacket. I live in North Idaho and Fjall Raven is my daily wear. I could not be happier!

Im about to get the Vidda Pro. I have the Barents Pro for many years and have been to a lot with them. Brambles and nettles are no problem with these pants. Your pronounciation is correct by the way. Cheers! 👍

I gotta say, I’m on my 2nd pair of Vidda Pros and haven’t been overly impressed when I consider the price they’re sold at. The first pair went back due to what I assume was a manufacturing fault, the boot hook ripped straight out on my first 1.5 mile walk/light hike. Replaced by Cotswold Outdoor no questions asked so fair enough, it happens. 2nd pair I’ve had about 2 years and have multiple small rips from thorns, and a sizeable tear in the right knee panel, I’m not even sure when or how it happened. They do a lot to try and use the G1000 and wax as a selling point, but really it’s just polycotton. They are nice trousers and I still use them regularly, but can’t help feeling the price point is just far too high for what they are.
At (I think) exactly the same price point I went over to the UF Pro P40 All-Terrain Gen 2s, and honestly I feel the quality and durability is much more reflective of that price point. They use ripstop fabric and the protective panels on high-wear areas are much heavier duty. The pockets are very well thought out and designed to be accessible when you’re sitting/kneeling/crouching, etc. The seat is made of a stretch material so it’s very easy to move in them. They also have an option to use kneepads and/or a removable liner for cold weather. Also has two sets of belt loops, one for a regular belt and another for a gun belt/tactical belt to be worn over the top if you want - not something I have any use for but might be useful for your line of work. If you’re ever in the market for another pair of outdoor trousers I’d recommend giving them some consideration.
Anyway just my tuppence worth, and sorry for all the edits, kept forgetting to add things - hadn’t had my coffee yet!

It’s pronounced FEE-AL RARVEN. I believe it means Arctic Fox in Swedish. The small pocket with a pop open base on these trousers is for a hatchet handle to go through when one is worn on the belt, keeps it from misbehaving. Been wearing these for years, quality clothing.

It is a good brand. Lovely to see your dog. It looks so happy. Don't worry about the pronounciation. Scandinavian languages are for Scandinavians only 🙂

Ive been considering these but they are pricey. I just got some montaens, and a fjallraven m65 jacket, old school but I'll have a watch of this and see if it's worth it.

Hmm, the Vidda Pros are neither lightweight nor waterproof (without additional waxing). These are the heavy duty outdoor/bushcraft pants in Fjällrävens lineup. Look for Abikso Light pants if looking for lighweight.

7:23 actually they don’t come waxed. You have to wax them yourself. The wax makes them more water resistant but makes them a lot less breathable and make you sweaty when wearing them. Better wax them in winter and wash the wax of in the hotter seasons.
