I own these pants, and agree with the pros and cons mentioned. Regarding price, totally worth it considering how long they will last. I have a fjallraven store near me, and they were able to custom hemmed them at no extra charge, which was great considering I’m a really short dude and it’s hard to find pants that fit well off the rack. I recommend these, thanks.
I have the Vida pro but not the ventilated. The first time I put them on, I was immediately relaxed about how much money they cost. Literally the most comfortable pants I’ve ever had. A few weeks ago I had to shovel snow for three hours. Got 15” overnight so lots of work. I did a high quality base layer and my goretex Mammut jacket for my upper body and just my Vida pros for pants. Three hours later, I was soaking wet with sweat all over my upper body but waist and legs were honestly dry as a desert bone. Even in the crotch area. Snow slid off these pants like they we’re greased. These pants are extremely durable, functional and breath much better than goretex. Yes I’m sure in heavy rain my legs would get wet but they shed light rain no problem. Best money I’ve ever spent in outdoor gear!
On the opposite end of that, I work in a lumber mill and need to chainsaw large logs time to time... These things will absolutely get completely covered and with a few slaps from my gloves all the sawdust is basically gone. Not a chance this is happening with my normal jeans. Ive got 2 pairs, ventilated and non vented. I dont make much and live paycheck to paycheck but I def agree with feeling relaxed with the money spent. Right now they are on sale for 115$
I love these as well as the non ventilated version. I’ve worn them both daily for the last several years. They hold up incredibly well. People constantly ask what type of pants they are. I don’t know if it’s because they think they look cool or stupid. 😂 I highly recommend them. Great review!
Just picked up a pair of ventilated VP to add to my regular. Truly good pants on both fronts. If they fit you, they’re like a second highly protective skin. I love the adjustable ankle snaps. You can use these to size above your calves and wear like knickers (that’s knickerbockers, all you Brits). One of the best features, IMHO. They’ll last forever. The design and Vietnamese construction is done at a high standard, as is everything I’ve ever purchased from Fjallraven. I can only imagine how nice their down stuff is!! So worth the coin. Good review. Thanks.
Can I ask what size you got and if they fit close to your other pants in that same size? I'm 6'-4" and I want to make sure fit is consistent with my other pants. Thanks!
@@brettspencer892 I’m 6’ with 32”waist and 32” inseam. EU-48 which is US-32. I think they have a size calculator on their website. I used it when I got my first pair and then t was spot on. Ventilated ones fit virtually identically to regular. They definitely have short, regular and long. I can understand your angst. They aren’t cheap. But 100% worth it if you spend a lot of times outside. With light colour for warm weather and dark for cool, I am pretty set for a good long time. Last word, they fit really well and that the main reason I like them so much. With that, I am out.
@@richardstanley1331 Thanks! Got a vented pair on the way for a birthday present to myself :) I went with the 32W & 34L. That's what all my pants are now days. Appreciate the feedback.
When I want to buy something I look to see if you have reviewed it or something from the brand, if you have approved it then I am happy to purchase on your recommendation. I'm crying right now as I just bought a pair of Vidda ventilated but as long as they fit then I know I'll be satisfied. Thank you so much for all the honest work that you do, I hope it is paying off. Huge respect and thanks again.
I've owned Fjallraven trousers for years and have just bought a pair of Vidda Pro vented... You're absolutely spot on with your review and comments. I will say that for me they did work 'ok' in all but the hottest weather and I liked the process of treating them with the wax (a more environmentally friendly approach to waterproofing - important for me). They do have a certain mild sound - so if you want more silent trousers go for the hunting range. 🙏
Crazy idea to place pockets on the top of anyone's thigh! Hej, Fjällräven (FR) addict here. Thank you for showcasing these great outdoor products, but I need to slightly add a bit: 1. I had been buying my FR equipment myself, ever since high school (kind of a disclaimer). That was in the early 1980s. 2. I'm sitting here on a regular day with almost half a dozen FR products on me (wallet, belt, trousers, shirt, jacket). Thats' because I don't wear my FR briefcase or backpack, tonight. 3. One thing I could always (meaning since my first purchase in 1983) rely upon was quality. Quality. Quality. Did I forget? Quality. 4. I admit that preferences change, including in the outdoors (friluft). Good for our daughters and sons. So does.fashion. Not so good, at least in my books. 5. Function determines form. Good joke, these days, when even FR produces trousers with pockets that do not hold what they're being conceived for or let it fall out for lack of considerate design. That includes quadruple dollar cell phones. 6. (and more to the point) Any trousers with pockets on the front of my thigh (not even half-way, as this almost $200 item) will never be my choice. Simply because this is not where my stuff (including maps) should ever be. This is where I sweat and mechanically challenge my trouser's tissue the most. At least where I live. Crazy idea to place pockets on the top of anyone's thigh!
Good review, thanks. I have always wanted a pair since I saw a German park ranger using them years ago; but they were out of my price range. Finally found them on a crazy sale and bought 3 for less than $150 :-) I am a happy camper LOVE them!
A proud Swede here! :) Love my pair (non-ventilated), and i've put them through everything. Hands-down favourite all-around pants ever. I'm my opinion they´re quite stylish aswell, something i think attributes to the simple design of them! So many other comparable products can look quite dorky and a bit too "outdoors-y". Another part of the simple design i love: buttoned pockets, not zippered. Intuitivly one might prefer zippered, but the simplicity, sustainability and surprising performance of those buttons make it just outstanding. Strongly recommend!
I agree. They are more aesthetic and less points of failure. I have a pair i am in love with these pants, they did arrive slightly larger than id like so I’m waiting on a Kore belt to fasten them into place on my fluctuating waistline. Other than that, zero complains these pants are amazing
Coming from Scotland and served in the Royal marines, Fjallraven is very common and well known............I have both the Vidda Pro's and the Keb's ...........and would highly recommend both for all outdoor activities. Never let me down in some pretty grim conditions. I find the Keb's even more comfortable than the Vidda's due to there being more stretch but just as bomb proof and being vented as standard with both thigh and ankle zipped vents. As stated as a con the vents are not mesh lined like many other Outdoor brands like Montane. Rab, Mountain Equipment etc etc ..............but that is an easy fix and took mine to a local seamstress to have the mesh added. This is a must in Scotland due to the high level of "Midges" (very tiny mosquito's) that are everywhere!!!!!!
Great review, as usual. I agree 100%. I own 3 pairs. I just love them. I think they were designed with the Swedish mountains and forests in mind. In a year, the number of days with real warm weather (above 20 C) is normally less than 10. Summer nights are frequently down to freezing. I use knee pads in mine, wich is great since I do so much on the ground. And yes, Ive had them for so long, I forgot the price. 😅
Little Brother, I purchased these paints due to your reviews and uses...I love these paints...I use them for Kayak Camping and they're great for wicking away water.
By far the best outdoor trousers I have ever owned ( I have 3 pairs of them) - superb comfort, quality and ruggedness. I have used them extensively - if you are looking for a trekking / outdoor trouser - you cannot go wrong. Thanks Luke - agree with everything you say.
Totally agree re-loosed fit is best. Leave the skinny pants for the chicks. That was pretty funny the school bus went by and realized your mail was hanging out. So, when you said if you weren’t showing the pants in a video you would’ve been wearing them. You were standing in your boxers? Lol looks like the vents are a must without insulating those cotton pants are. The loops could they be for suspenders? Unless maybe that single loop you mentioned in the back left is for pulling the pants to the side so you can squat over a cat hole without taking the pants off relieving yourself through the zipper and vent. Good complete coverage of these pants from top to bottom thanks for not panning down when you were standing there holding the pants up in the air. 😮🎉
Keb pants are my favorite, the stretch panels are amazingly comfortable. Sold my vida pros and I’ll only wear the keb . Absolutely love them worth the 230$ price tag .
A very happy new year to you, your family, and everyone on the channle that reads this! I love the reviews, the adventures, and 2023 will bring new camping and backing fun to me and my family. Thank you for inspiring me to get back to the outdoors like i did when i was younger!
I watched this review few times, and watched other reviews too. The *main issue* with such *proven* reviews is that you review pants which served a decade for you and are proven to perform the best, and we (consumers) won’t find decade-old models in store. Just check users reviews at manufacturer’s site for any brand: model sizing and fit changes year after year. Specifically this model, it is waxed cotton, which is an issue for me. I finally bought Haglöfs “Rugged Mountain Pants” which are comparable by design, but no cotton; on sale, for CAD$160 (USD$ 110). Happy with the purchase. Canoeing, portaging, hiking, camping. If you check manufacturer site, you will find again reviews from users who is super happy with few-years-old model, and unhappy with the current one.
For warmer weather I use Abisko Midsummer Trousers they are vented and much thinner G-1000 fabric so I use them int he summer when the weather is under 25C(77F).
I bought a pair of these a few months ago, in preparation for an mid-winter trip above the arctic circle in Norway. They are everything promised, absolutely superb design and quality. The most money I've ever spent on a pair of pants but I don't have any regrets. I didn't think I would need the ventilation feature for my usage but the only pair the flagship store in Denver had in stock in my size (30 inseam) had it so that's what I got. I've not run into a situation yet where I wanted to open the vents but I haven't been through any hot weather with them yet.
I've waxed mine from knees, lower thighs and around ankles. These are the spots which always gets wet while walking in moderate or light rain, so waxing them prevents water coming thru and fabric soaking.
To be fair its no surprise to me that these trousers are so warm as they are made by a Swedish company, I guess aiming at a domestic market where temperatures are largely cool. Love the review Luke, many thanks. I've been umming and arring about a pair of these for some time and have been held back by the big ticket price. However, you have convinced me and I am now going to buy my own pair...Thanks again
Oh yes, I own two pairs of Fjällräven trousers and they seem to last forever. In fact, I have a Fjällräven jacket from about 1978-1980 and it's still perfect.
I absolutely love my Fjallravens, and I recommend them to everyone. As a slightly cheaper alternative for everyday abuse and pretty close to the features of my Fjallravens I also tell people about Tru-Spec 24-7 Xpedition pants. They're not quite as full featured, but might be a good alternate for those still psyching themselves up to paying for the fox.
@@JaneThorson-dm3ev For sheer light weight (while still blocking wind and some rain if they are waxed) and flexibility of movement, I like the Fjallravens. The fabric is more comfortable, and they just fit really well. Fjallraven stores also do free tailor work. However...The expedition pants are my goto if I think I will need maximum durability. Also, since they are cheaper, I have several pairs of the Expeditions, so I worry less about them. Oh, and Expeditions have a back pocket whereas the Fjallravens don't, if that's a thing.
Thanks so much for the review Luke. I'm getting ready to put my money down on some good outdoors pants. I do like the mesh and color options of the Revolution Race pants but hate tight clothing as well. I have ventilated Klim Dakar riding pants with a huge vent with mesh. They are awesome when you get hot on the trail. Open the vents, stand up and enjoy the A/C. I'm going to assume you went with the short version, I'm shorter myself and find most technical gear is meant for tall skinny people. Us short guys get out there too! I hate when the reinforced knee sits below my knee just because the company doesn't make clothing for people under 6'.
YES!!! I have 2 pairs of these and they're great!!! Like you said tho, they're hot to wear in the summer months even here in Colorado at high elevation. I also have the Fjallraven Keb Agile pants which are more breathable and lighter in weight. They also have the mesh opening along the side so I wear them during the summer months. But like you said, I LOVE these pants! Pricy yes but will last forever!
After trying these on and finding the fit *not skinny* I was finally sold. Having used them for a while, the fit is very good but does bind if you go to scramble up a steep slope or high step over blow-down. I find the waist size is slightly generous, so I use a belt, but the low rise still pulls them down my butt some if squatting or scrambling. The fabric seems colder than other pants when directly on the skin below -10 C, but pairing them with wool tights is excellent. Those are the only negatives that I've found. I'd consider them best for shoulder season hiking or bush work. Friends who use them for timber cruising and eco-typing in BC say that they are one of the only pants that holds up multiple seasons in the field. You don't get higher praise for durability than that.
I have 2 per of the fjallraven pants and a pr of the hiking leggings. I agree the kebs are hot, but they have double vents which help. Also have a lighter unvented summer pair. Love all 3.
Recently got the Keb Touring, a beefed up version of the regular Keb. More for winter use. Ventilated, some kind of thick soft shell and G-1000. Make sure you wax your G-1000 for weather protection.
I ended up biting the bullet and bought a pair of the ventilated and non-vented. I actually found them local at 20% off as well. I might have been able to save a few bucks buying online but this was the first place local to me that I found them where I could actually try them on for sizing. The Kebs I bought work but are probably 1-2 sizes too big in reality. One thing to note with the Keb vs the Vidda Pro vented is the side vent height. On the Vidda Pro the zipper starts about 4 inches higher than on the Keb's which as stated in this video the Vidda Pro can show a lot more of your underwear. Also worth noting is the regular Vidda Pro does not have the stretch material at all. Which to me is a pro and a con. The stretch is nice to have but at the same time if it is the same material as on my Keb pants which I think it is it takes 3x longer to dry when wet compared to the g1000 material. I would say there is a chance on the Vidda Pro vented pants since there is so little stretch material alot of the moisture will wick into the g1000 material and dry a lot faster than the Keb pants as it is about 50% stretch material. Either way all 3 will fit well into my rotation!
Happy new year Luke and I hope you and your family have a fantastic year! I love the side waist gear loop, I've used them for attaching keys when I don't want to fiddle with getting them on the belt loop gear loops and mostly use it for an axe/hatchet when I'm out gathering firewood and that's worked out well. I love the function of these pants and they are my favorite pants for winter campouts!
Got mine last year and love 'em to bits. Absolutely bullet-proof build quality but as you say, quite warm in hotter climates, especially out here in S.E Asia 😥. Happy New Year to you, Susie and family and look forward to watching your 2023 adventures. Stay safe 👍🇲🇾
Would you recommend 100% cotton outdoor pants for super hot, wet climates like Vietnam? If it's desert then cotton has pretty much no downsides but if it's rainy half the year maybe cotton sucks.
@@ryaniam22 good question. Your climate is similar to here in Malaysia . I do find they get pretty sweaty in the heat but they do dry out quick and personally, I prefer the durability the Vidda pros have to offer, so I'm ok with that. However, mine aren't the ventilated Vidda Pros that Luke was trying out, so that extra bit of ventilation may make a difference in our type of climate - but I guess with the extra ventilation and exposure of skin, it might have a downside with mosquito bites ! Cheers
@@ryaniam22 I do find cotton pants get pretty clammy in this climate and certainly take a bit of a hammering on rough terrain and vegetation compared to the Viddas as well
Happy New Year, Luke! I've become a convert--having bought two pairs which have totally replaced the denim jeans I used to wear all the time. His is correct in them being "insanely comfortable." Thank you for the various video recommendations over the years. A caution...label size often does not match actual waist size. This makes online ordering risky. Examples: my two pair, size EU52/US36 are actually 37". Another pair EU52/US36 was actually 38".
One reason why I think there isn’t mesh over the openings is because Europeans sometimes have inner layers with pockets. Being able to access inner pockets or simply rearrange your underwear is pretty nice.
My friend you’ve been a reviewer far to long not to notice the numerous changes there is with newer ventilated version. The original ones are a lot better, the butt is double material, cargo pockets actually stick out and are useable unlike the ventilated version. Much more function for ppl with beefier legs.
When I was a kid I saw my uncle wearing his keys on a belt loop and thought it was so cool....been doing it for 30 years haha. Fjallraven is no joke from my experience, I don't own any clothing yet, but their other stuff like the Abisko tarp is top notch stuff. It is indeed buy once cry once. So far their stuff is worth every dime.
Question.. how often do you wash them? after every outing? or wait until they stand on their own..? love my Fjall's... thanks for any replies. thanks for your video man... happy new years to you and your family...
I've been tempted to buy these pants many times but can't seem to pull the trigger. Instead I buy LL Bean Riverton Pants. Much cheaper with the same material composition, maybe not as many pockets as the Fjallraven but better placement and more useful. And the Riverton pants wear like iron. Maybe some day I'll buy a pair of Vidda Pros but I'll probably keep buying the LL Bean pants and instead buy a Fjallraven trekking jacket. Good review, Luke!
I got some for Christmas. Love these pants. Make sure you order a size larger than you would normal pants because there is -10 stretch. No stretch at all. As for length I got the "regular" at 6 foot I figured I was a regular sweedish man... but at waist 32-33 with average length these pants are made for a 6'5" person. They run small waist because of no stretch and run LONG. Because sweeds are huge apparently.
Hi I would like to recommend the fjällräven Ked Trouser, they are like the Vidda Pro Trousers but different, trekking trousers made of stretch fabric and G-1000 Eco, now updated for an even better performance, fit and durability. You can use them with suspenders, and the bottom edge of the trouser leg has a new design that is easier to adjust and repair. The trousers have classic, large pockets, two large ventilation zips on each side and openings for knee pads. A well-fitting, durable classic for maximum freedom of movement in the mountains. I have been using them for more than 10 years and am very satisfied with them. the first pair I've had has held for approx. 9 years. Regards Jon.
Hi Luke. Happy new year to you all! You changed you sunglasses finally!!!! OMG!!! (Haha.. Sorry. Since i have like 40 pairs of sunglassses watching you only wear that black Oakley pair ALWAYS was driving me crazy ;-) ) Awesome review as always. Love those pants.
I have the same pair and they are the best!!! I pair them with The Vidda Pro Jacket . I live near Duluth Mn and they Hold up in the cold North Shore winters just fine!! I don’t think I’ll ever wear another brand again after these.
Amazing pants. I do search and rescue and these are my go to pants. They're great if you have to go off trail or bushwhack. Very durable at the campsite. I use the loop in back for my bandana.
I would like to share very few of my experience with my own Vidda Pro Ventilated. I have never tried the non ventilated model so I can not compare but from what I have read from the site and I believe official promotional video is that this model is slightly slimmer than the non-vent model but does have the stretch where it matters. I bought this pants in my regular wear size and it does fit ever so slightly snug compare to similar shaped Levi's jeans I have but again thanks to the stretch between the legs it doesn't bother me much. BUT one BIG issue I have is with the all the pockets. Yes it does depend on each person but if you want to put anything other than paper maps, slim wallet, anything slim and flexible in the pocket you will want to size UP as when you are seating or bending over/down thigh area get too tight. So do keep that in mind. I do like that with Vidda Pro series you can pull and snap at the ankle for tight fit. One other... yes it is a expensive pants. Another options I would highly you check out is the ever so popular CARHARTT Rugged Flex workwear pants. They do have many variety of design, fabric choices including stretch. I highly suggest you check them out as those are much cheaper and if not just as durable but may be not loaded with pockets like Fjallraven. But again... I gurantee you, you won't be using all the pockets on Vidda Pro anyways for the reasons I explained before. So yea... certain Carhartt model will 100% satisfy so many of you for any outdoor beat up wears. Also, I personally wax my butt and about 6" pants bottom only... in winter I wax entire knee down. Before buying, read about them from the official fjallraven site first for sizing info and such. But if you must feel like owning a Fjallraven, do consider their Outdoor series pants as they are made with same material, just designed bit more casual loook. I pronouce it V - Da. :) Cheers.
Outdoor gear is not like workwear or everyday clothes. It has a purpose and is priced accordingly. These pants are priced this way because only them and a few others will perform like they do. Nice review. They look like sweet work pants in the spring and fall as well.
You dawned the pants and it dawned on me the importance of ventilating spectacles. By the way nice white framed spectacles. Thanks for explaining the sizing as I was converting based on European shirt sizes subtracting 10. For a minute I thought you had a 38 inch waist which didn’t look right. Anyway, thanks for the concise and very complete description with review. Lots of pockets. I have a couple sets of military surplus kneepads, and really like the option being able to use with these trousers. Thanks for the info! 🎉
It would be interesting to see you review the pants from UF PRO. They are more of a military style company but I think they are great and would appreciate your take on them.
Luke I like your channel. I really like the back packing episodes you use to do. Lijw mount rogers, appilation trail and others. I like what you stand for. Keep up the good work.
Happy New Year folks, I've got a pair of fjallraven trousers. Love them! I don't have the vented type. Don't know how they would perform in a Scottish summer, too many midges could get to somewhere you'd rather they didn't 😂😂
I love my Vidda Pro's. After buying one pair at 155.00, I've been on the lookout for more at a cheaper price. The no back pocket takes a minute to get used to if that's all you wear are rear wallet pockets. I'd like to have at least 3 more pair.
I have two lots of vidda pro and a new pair of vidda pro ventilated. Just wondering about where you said “the only difference is the vents with zippers” but my ventilated pants have elastic-style fabric between the front panel and the rear. My standard vidda don’t have that. G1000 all the way. I ask because my buddy took a pair of ventilated trousers out for their first wear and the elastic fabric came apart from the g1000 after 3days of trekking. I never bought a pair after I learned that but my wife got me a pair for Christmas. I’m nervous that they are not going to last but also know they’re Fjallraven and so they will probably surpass my fears.
I love my Viddo Pro (no vents), as well as my Barents. Yet, I've found that the Keb is far more comfortable in warmer months with the vents, with the downside of not being nearly as durable.
$135 isn’t too bad for high quality pants, but here in MO almost all hiking will be done in temps over 70 degrees. Do you have a high temperature equivalent?
I have these exact same pants and I kept the cinch at the bottom because even though they are 30 inch pants they are still too long for me and cinching them down prevents them from going all the way to the ground and getting caught under my boot heel.
Really helpful as I look for a new pair of walking trousers for backpacking (thru' hiking to those in the US). And Luke, if there were three like buttons I'd have clicked them all for the style and pragmatism of your presentation.
Härkila Mountain Trek trousers are also good. I use trousers in the forest in summer and fall because of the ticks etc. A beltloop in the middle of the back for braces is good.
My problem with pants, no matter which brand and season they are, is the moister they get in the hip belt band. This is less a problem with summer pants, but with heavier soft shell one, it is. You should try Rab Matrix soft shell pants. Light, stretchy, water and wind resistant with great breathability, except for the area I mentioned, but I think this is a problem with all of them.
Have you ever tried their KEB trousers? Or KEB Pro. I find them to bee even more comfortable. Lots of stretch panels where needed and the rest is, of course in G-1000.
I have a pair of these and two pairs of regular vidda pros which are 2 years older, they've been abused in all conditions however the ventilated ones have deteriorated much quicker considering they have had over a year's less wear and tear. The quality is significantly less than on the vidda pro. They do the job they're supposed to but quality is the downside. I also didn't like how the vented areas have no form of mesh or netting which is an open door for bugs (I stitched my own on for next to nothing).
There a pant out here in oregon that are very heavy and you can get them in regular or fleese lined. They are warm and comfy they are water resistant. They are great made by Duluth trading. Thoughs are my pants of choice but I'm going to buy a few of the ones you have to test if they are warm and tough I'm all in.
I have 2 pairs... one for summer and other that i wax for winter camping. Wax does a good job o keeping snow from melting through the pants on the knees and butt. I have never used the vented version.
I bought my first pair of Fjällräven 25 years ago, still use them. I think I have 6-7 pairs of different Fjällräven pants, an anorak, a jacket, 5-6 different pairs of shirt, and so on. I just can't wear them out. First time I was in Alaska 2012 a lot of people asked me about my pants and shirt, they had never heard about Fjällräven then, guess they have now.
I have a pair of Fjallraven Sormland and they taper down to the ankle. I really like the material and I forgot about these ventilated ones. Will likely be my next pair of hiking pants, thanks for the review.
I got a pair of vida pro 3 years ago how long did they last ? 3 Fecking days !! Whilst walking in the woods a branch stuck in my backside and put a 1" rip in the arse ... To be fair , I did contract the vendor , they contacted Fjallraven and a replacement pair sent.. The other thing I did not know is that they are not made in Sweden.. Fjallraven have Asian production partners in China and South Korea to produce their clothing and gear, a long way from Ake's basement where it all started. SO, I don't mind paying for quality BUT it seems high considering where they are made . LOVE the replacement pair ! Would I get more ? Maybe .. still feel a little ripped off considering where they are now made.
The only problem I have with the Fjallraven trousers is that in the UK, the sizes are extremely small . I am not sure whether this something that happens in certain countries or the manufacturer don't make bigger sizes . As the standard size of person grows internationally, manufacturers seem to want make clothing smaller and don't want to know about the bigger ,taller person. Great videos and keep up the amazing work you and the gorgeous Suzy do to make these videos.
I am talking about the waist more then leg sizes even though I am tall as I am well built. I have found this a common them in the UK and can't seem to find any answer to this although I have encountered some abusive remarks about my situation even though I am big , I am not fat .
I think that it varies between styles of pants. In the Keb pant I’m a 48 ( uk 32) but in the vidda pant I need the 50 as their higher waisted. The websites good for show the fit of each style🤙
@@BurtReynoldstash I have just out that Fjallraven don't make anything bigger than 40 inch UK size , it the same with all of the range that they make . I have found the same with quite a few clothing companies and if they did, they would have a bigger market to gain .
@@andrewjohnalbrighton6140 hi yeah the scandi market is the tall, skinny, athletic fit. There’s another brand like Fjallraven sasta, and pine woods are of a Fjallraven ilk.
@@BurtReynoldstash I have been trying some clothing from a different company that makes for the bigger person and like Fjallraven , are expensive, but worth the money . Some people complain that this other company I have found makes the clothing in greens and brown as they originally aimed at the hunter , bushcrafter type of person, which is ideal for me as it's where I spend most of my time when I am at work.
Thanks for the review... Yes! They are hor in the summer time... ;) Fjällräven sayes that the loop ( 5:12 ) is for an axe... It cuold be used for hanging my glowes in a carabiner... ;)
I wish they keep the pocket layout from the original Vidda Pro, but I guess the side pocket and hatchet sleeve (or the handle of the hatchet) would interfere with the ventilated areas. Bought the original Vidda Pro today, but I live in Norway where the ventilation is less of a necessity throughout most of the year.
Hi! Thanks for the video. Do you feel wind through stretch panels? I'm thinkin gabout buying a pair of hose for winter hike and I'm hesitant because I'm afraid cold wind is going to pierce me through.
A subtle difference between the two versions of the the Vidda Pro trousers. The ventilated trousers have a single layer rear panel, as opposed to the double layer rear panel with the non-ventilated version. It seems that Fjallraven felt that having a double layer rear panel would make the seam containing the upper end of ventilated zipper too thick. Thanks to Luke, I bought two pairs and have "lived" in them since.
How is the fabric weight compared to something like Carhartt double front dungarees? I wear the Carhartts a lot because they're sturdy, they breathe ok, and if you look for them some are made in the US. The Fjall Raven looks good though. For that kind of money I'm surprised I saw 'made in Vietnam'.
In the summer I wear the G1000 Lite trousers with zip-off legs. They are super light and keep you cool. You can even swim with them if you go commando! 😂 They are the most comfortable trousers you can ever have in the summer. I don't wear anything else. I also wear their G1000 Lite jackets. PS Just wax the front part of the legs and use a hair dryer to spread the wax.
I would think that when hiking out in the woods, pants vented without any mesh might pose a problem with tics; exposing something for them to latch onto.
I was wondering if you were going to mention using Nikwax on them. I’m a big fan of Fjallraven clothing. I myself actually like the waxing but don’t necessarily want to wax the entire pants. I’ll try Nikwax, the probably wax the knees and rear patches. We’ll see what happens and if I drop the waxing all together. Having said that, I will keep waxing the pair I will wear canoeing. A well waxed G-1000 material almost acts like the neoprene of a wetsuit when rained on. Totally agree with you on those pants and yes they dry incredibly fast. Happy New Year 2023 and to lots of great adventures! 🥂🥳🤙
I have the normal Vidda, and find them perfect for 3 season use, including ski touring. Super tough & reliable. The only downside is the lack of stretch - my wife has these vent type with the stretch crotch which I regret not getting instead
When you are ready to step to next level in comfortness, try out the Keb trousers. Basically the same pants but they are a bit more technical(more ventilation possibilities, more stretchy areas etc.) Ventilation points should never have mesh IMO.
How tall are you and which size do you wear?
They actually offer to fix anytime no problem, at least the one near me
I have the Vida pro but not the ventilated.
Hey brother, they do look a bit strange don't they? I had a lady ask me why I had ski pants on once while out shopping. Lol - Luke
Do you a preference between the originals and the ventilated?
The loop at the back is for the gloves….very useful 😉
Or use it to hang the pants on a wall hook
Thank you for showcasing these great outdoor products, but I need to slightly add a bit:
The Kebs are my favorite. I’ve torn the seat on them, and they replaced them for free! Great company
Any precautions on how to wash them?
@donniev8181 just put them inside out into the washing machine and you should be fine
It's always nice to see that our Swedish products are well liked 😃🇸🇪🥳
Little Brother, I purchased these paints due to your reviews and uses...I love these paints...I use them for Kayak Camping and they're great for wicking away water.
By far the best outdoor trousers I have ever owned ( I have 3 pairs of them) - superb comfort, quality and ruggedness. I have used them extensively - if you are looking for a trekking / outdoor trouser - you cannot go wrong. Thanks Luke - agree with everything you say.
Any precautions on washing and drying them?
Hi, Luke, Happy New Year! I am living in Sweden and have used Fjällräven pants since the 70s, durable and comfortable. So happy you like them!
For warmer weather I use Abisko Midsummer Trousers they are vented and much thinner G-1000 fabric so I use them int he summer when the weather is under 25C(77F).
Man...I have never seen anyone do an unboxing of a pair of pants...mesmerised brilliant unboxing review
Also, up here in Scandinavia mosqitos gets through lighter fabric, but not Vidda pants.
@@palbal Good shout Pal...I hadn't thought about the mozzies...yes they are a menace..thanks for the heads up
Oh yes, I own two pairs of Fjällräven trousers and they seem to last forever.
Axe/hachet loop 👍
I have the 24-7 expedition pants. Which pair do you like the best?
@@JaneThorson-dm3ev For sheer light weight (while still blocking wind and some rain if they are waxed) and flexibility of movement, I like the Fjallravens. The fabric is more comfortable, and they just fit really well. Fjallraven stores also do free tailor work. However...The expedition pants are my goto if I think I will need maximum durability. Also, since they are cheaper, I have several pairs of the Expeditions, so I worry less about them. Oh, and Expeditions have a back pocket whereas the Fjallravens don't, if that's a thing.
These pants are expensive in Scandinavia where they come from(Sweden). A new pair costs 220 dollars and is still a very popular pant. Good review!
Love all 3.
love the fact that u completely deny revolutionrace. good job ! :D
You are 100% correct. These pants are the best unless you are in hot /humid climates.
One reason why I think there isn’t mesh over the openings is because Europeans sometimes have inner layers with pockets. Being able to access inner pockets or simply rearrange your underwear is pretty nice.
Discovered these pants today for the first time. Crazy that they've gone up $50 in the last year.
My friend you’ve been a reviewer far to long not to notice the numerous changes there is with newer ventilated version. The original ones are a lot better, the butt is double material, cargo pockets actually stick out and are useable unlike the ventilated version. Much more function for ppl with beefier legs.
100%. The fabric of the original is a bit nicer too. Also the fit on the originals is much more loose than the ventilated.
Love that you're still using the decathlon bag! I have the same one and its so worth the price!
I think the reason for no back pockets is that stuff there will make them wear out when you sit
Cheers.
Outdoor gear is not like workwear or everyday clothes. It has a purpose and is priced accordingly. These pants are priced this way because only them and a few others will perform like they do.
Nice review. They look like sweet work pants in the spring and fall as well.
I definitely think I’ll get a pair. Currently digging my Kuiu Tiberon and Attack pants but I like all the pockets in the Fjallravens.
I bought these based on your old video and use them for hunting pants, hiking and all other outdoor activities. They really are great
Luke I like your channel.
Thankful for the size chart..... Didn't see 44" x 34" inseam...
Hi Luke , I like my Craghoppers " Kiwi Pants " , They come either Lined or unlined , Tough and Durable , yet thin enough to be good in the summer .
Love mine too. Recently paired them up with the Fjällräven suspenders too - love ‘em!!
Great review, last year while in Banff I picked up the same pants only in shorts, there's your warm weather solution.
Really helpful as I look for a new pair of walking trousers for backpacking (thru' hiking to those in the US). And Luke, if there were three like buttons I'd have clicked them all for the style and pragmatism of your presentation.
What are your thoughts on 5.11 gear? I feel like they would be a great comparison. I love mine. However, they are missing the vent on the legs.
Dude your reviews are so real and awesome, can you review Gash Hao?
There a pant out here in oregon that are very heavy and you can get them in regular or fleese lined. They are warm and comfy they are water resistant. They are great made by Duluth trading. Thoughs are my pants of choice but I'm going to buy a few of the ones you have to test if they are warm and tough I'm all in.
Fjallraven is extremely popular here in UK, i think Ray Mears is a fan as well...
I have 2 pairs... one for summer and other that i wax for winter camping. Wax does a good job o keeping snow from melting through the pants on the knees and butt. I have never used the vented version.
Not sure why you don't like the leg closures (the ones you removed) on the pants. Love your reviews. Have you reviewed the Anorak #8 yet? 16:57
Happy new Year hey Ijust discovered the Atik Family and his tent is next level for their Christmas Campout in heavy rain.
It cuold be used for hanging my glowes in a carabiner... ;)
These seem solid. I wonder how they stack up against UFPro all terrains, they seem very similar in features.
I'd love to see an update with the new Vidda Pro Lite entry into this lineup.
In the summer I wear the G1000 Lite trousers with zip-off legs. They are super light and keep you cool.
You can even swim with them if you go commando! 😂
They are the most comfortable trousers you can ever have in the summer.
I don't wear anything else. I also wear their G1000 Lite jackets.
PS Just wax the front part of the legs and use a hair dryer to spread the wax.
The viddas are ok but I like the little bit of stretch in the Keb pants. Especially for the high king foo kicks lol. ( same vents on the legs)
I would think that when hiking out in the woods, pants vented without any mesh might pose a problem with tics; exposing something for them to latch onto.
Favourite pants, wear them almost everyday most of the year 👌🏻👍🏻
I was wondering if you were going to mention using Nikwax on them.
I would get the ventilated type if they kept the pocket layout from the original, as well as the hatchet loop/pocket hybrid.
When you are ready to step to next level in comfortness, try out the Keb trousers. Basically the same pants but they are a bit more technical(more ventilation possibilities, more stretchy areas etc.)
Ventilation points should never have mesh IMO.
