    I used to dustless sand lime wash off as easy job if you got the kit.If lime wash is thick then no sealer will work over time i found. Artex sold a product called stable x, but that was discontinued so i used the sandtex version kirk used or Wickes own brand as all the same stuff. Yeah. Smells nice.
    Duck tape and pull off is a good surface test plus easier than scrapping sometimes.
    Good information and well presented:)

    Another cracking job 👍
    Just a tip to any new plasterers
    use old left over plaster and save yourself a few £ on the halftime accelerator.
    I know kirk knows this, rumour has it that he was born with a trowel in his hand 😉

      @jamiejosh96 7 месяцев назад

      True, the advantage with the accelerator is that the plaster is still nice to trowl and comes back with water. Not the case with dirty water and can also easily go off too quick

    I recently had a hall to skim …put SBR on then tried the first coat and it dried in about 10 min …..so I put sandtex on another wall that had no SBR on it put the stabilising solution on then the SBR and to be honest it was no better still drying out first coat, and yes it is crumbly and about 1950 property

    Interested. Surely if the original is lathe and lime plaster then it needs lime plaster for repair?

    I found out the hard way that applying neat PVA to vinyl emulsion that’s sitting on top of lime wash paint will make the emulsion paint bubble up and blister. It did me a favour because it made scraping the wall down a lot easier…..A happy accident😊

    Do you get much of this stuff on walls as well?

  • @ChrisLivingInYork
    @ChrisLivingInYork 10 месяцев назад

    It looks similar to Zinzeer Guardz and if it is, using a foam roller is better as it retains more liquid and won’t platter everywhere, especially when doing ceilings😊

    • @Onthetrowel
      @Onthetrowel  10 месяцев назад

      Your spot on mate, it is very similar stuff.
      And your right about the roller aswell. I'm sick of buying them though, this one was the only one I had on the van 🙈

    Dunno how you boys would do 80/100 metres a day on site. Incredible speed. Surely the finish wouldn’t be as good as on a domestic job where you can take your time with it? I’ve never worked on site plastering but I have decorated new builds and the plastering is usually awful! Great vid fella

    • @NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot
      @NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot 6 месяцев назад +1

      There’s nothing wrong with surface rust. You’ve bought a carbon steel which will rust, is what it is. Soak it for a day or two in distilled vinegar and it’ll help lessen the rust

    Having a right issue on the current job mate with old painted walls.
    Walpaper been removed, and left the origional sand and cement interior walls (in Ireland this btw), so maybe lime sand and cement... but, i tell you i cannot get the plaater to slow down after it's been applied...
    SBR'd all walls, with neat SBR+, but it seemed to have no effect...
    1st 2 rooms i we did it dried before i got rid to the 1st wall... 1st flattened it , and i got almost a smooth finish, but it was really drying quick, 2nd coat went on and by the time od got half way round again it was almost solid. Had to brush and water it off to bring something back to work with. Was a total nightmare. Not a great finish.
    Today, i did the hallway, ended up putting so much sbr on, and it did same thing. (Don't tell anyone but i left it at 1 coat , and it wasn't thick, and got a lovely finish, but. It was drying so fast again.
    Any ideas on old painted samd and cement walls??
    I'm at a loss pal. Short of using a grit, i don't know what to try next.
    I was even thinking of using pva next! Ha..

    • @Onthetrowel
      @Onthetrowel  5 дней назад

      Have you tried putting the sbr on the day before mate?

    • @jonfenwick6200
      @jonfenwick6200 5 дней назад

      No. Only maybe a. Weak coat. But, I'll give that a go mate.
      Would you say the same for the likes of like thick glossy paint too? Some of this paint is quite thick, not glossy, but definitely smooth and gloss like... if you follow.

    • @Onthetrowel
      @Onthetrowel  5 дней назад

      Yes. If it's high suction then definitely sbr it a good thick coat the day before and it seals properly overnight.
      This will be a game changer.
      Don't water down the sbr, always use it neat

    Wish i had lad's like yourself when i was looking for a plasterers! Fuckin cowboys that came and did my job talked a good game and it looked good when it was finished. That's until it dried out then it looked awful and started cracking and patches falling off the wall, now watching a couple off videos it seems like it wasn't bonded properly 🧱.........luckily i had a contract with a Guarantee so threaten to take them to court and got my money back... how hard is it now adays to find a tradesmen like yourself that take pride in there work 🤔 to many cowboys now adays just take your money do a shit job and run
