It's been a long time since we've done a pronunciation difference. Today's subject is Pokemon names! We had a lot of fun filming this, but most importantly, it was really informative for us. I learned a lot of new words from other languages just from Pokemon names, so it was kind of neat. Today's Korean guest is Oh JaeYoung. Some of you might know him as the Jeju guy in my videos. I wanted to call Jaein out, but she wasn't too big into Pokemon as a kid, so my friend joined us. I had a similar video before, but that video was a hot mess and some of them were wrong, so I did it again THE RIGHT WAY. Hope you enjoy :)
Here are more pokemon facts for you Dave. 1) Ditto is actually a fail clone of Mew which is why they can only be found on Cinnabar Island in the mansion that they were trying to make Mewtwo. 2) Gengar is called the shadow pokemon because it is believe to be the shadow of a Clefable and the name is taken after Doppleganger because your shadow is your Doppleganger. 3) The name for Magikarp does not have a meaning but its evolution is based on the Japanese myth that when a karp swims up and jumps over a waterfall, it will become a dragon which is why Gyarados looks like a dragon. Hope you liked the poke'trivia!

I hope you always leave a disclaimer comment like this Dave. I was about to ask "Where's Jaein?" too cos I was curious, but I'm also worried since you don't like people asking where someone is. It's nice to see this kind of disclaimer so we get the answers before we leave a comment, and also so you wouldn't get stressed out cos we probably wont ask anymore. Thanks Dave! :)

Because in English it would sound weird if translated literally. Whereas it doesn't sound weird in those East Asian languages since every syllable means something.
English is rooted on others languages so we can use Latin for example to make things sound fancy and novel. But Chinese for example, is a root so everything sounds very literal.
@@panner11 I guess that's why english is a pretty hard language for quite a few people. Cuz for us, the words are based on a dead language which then gets translated into a new way, thus often become a sort of pun or different way of being said.
@@blurryface5744 also phonetically it sounds like a word on its own because we don't associate Mew with anything. So Mewtwo doesn't sound too weird. Single syllable helps too. Isn't Onix's Korean name, "롱스톤", a pun? Yes, "롱" sounds like the English word "long", but doesn't it also sound like one of the Sino-Korean ways to say "dragon"? Not the actual Korean word(s) "용"/"룡", but like the Korean pronunciation of the Mandarin word, "龍". "Lax" is also an English word that means "loose" or "lacking intensity" or "lacking rigidness". And that ending city theme is damn pretty lol. Sorry I can't remember the name, I just always saw it as a generic city theme. Let's go with Pewter City 😆 *Or I could be mistaking it for Pokemart. Thank heavens for internet ease of access
I love that Dave was hugging the Pikachu the entire time. So cute!
I appreciated the Ragnarok Online reference in the Doppelganger explanation hahaha nice :)
Me only knowing onibugi for Wartortle because JR from NU'EST looks like it... 😂🐢
Same. Thanks jr 😂
꼬부기=꼬마+거북이, 어니부기=어금니+거북이, 거북왕=말그대로 거북이왕

Finally figured out which pokemon RM loves, thanks to this video 😅 but this was really interesting and mind blowing
Them learning about Ditto was cute!😄
신기하다 AF I love these types of videos. Also that editing boi you been slayin'.
Remember the fake squirtle card named “Jenny Tortoise” you had when you were a kid? Yep.
These are always so cute and interesting! Your pronunciation differences videos always make my day☺️

I found this very educational because I’m learning Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. Also it was learning Pokémon names in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. Thank y’all for this video! ¡Gracias por esto me ayudo mucho! ありがとうございます!

브아이 너무 귀여워 ㅠㅠㅠㅠ
gyarados could be from the japanese word gyakusatsu which means genocide/atrocity or from gyaku which means opposite ( because it’s very strong and it evolves from magikarp which is weak , so the opposite ) , arashi which means storm and “dos/dosu” but I don’t know what does it means 🤗♥️
8:03 プリン可愛い😍
고라파덕 설명하신거 맞을 껄요?
제가 잘못 기억하는게 아니면 전에 포켓몬 이름 지은 사람이 TV에서 밝힌적 있는데 설명 그대로예요.
참고로 샤미드라는 이름이 굉장히 신경쓴 이름이던데...
Best video ever!!! The editing IS LIT
I thought you were gonna make the Muk joke when you brought up Arbok and Ekans
정말 이번 영상편집 제 취향이에요ㅠㅠ 작게작게 효과도 많고 17분이 전혀 짧지않게 느껴졌어요! 요근래 본 영상중에 최고입니다! 좋은 영상 감사해용💕
왘ㅋㅋㅋ 한국어도 아신는게 너무너무 신기하네영ㅋㅋ 똑똑하시네용ㅋㅋㅋ
With in the Japanese system, there is an Hu/Fu sound. It just funny watching Dave react to that all the time.
저 포켓몬 엄청 좋아해요 ㅠㅠㅠ 아 데이브 포켓몬 덕후라서 너무 좋아여!!! 아보크랑 아보(영어) 와..이건 저도 몰랐네요 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
저의 최애캐들을 이렇게 나라별 이름알려줘서 고마워요 데이브

5:21 Erina with the usual "F" sabotage sounding LOL
망나뇽의 뜻은 망망대해를 나는 용이라고해서 만들어진 이름입니다.
When Dave said, "Erina is so cute. Omg." I was just like... "Oh... Dave?!?!?!?!"
very enjoyable !!! informative and just seemed like a lovely time
also, jaeyong is great, i like seeing him a little more lively its really cute, and i hope to see him more uwu
Some of the Japanese sub translations are not correct. The sound a pigeon makes is po「ぽ」not bo「ぼ」So Pidgey's name is Popo 「ポッポ」 not BboBbo.
팬텀(겐가)와 비슷하게 생긴 픽시 픽시의 서식지는 동굴... 팬텀은 그림자포켓몬 팬텀은 포켓몬의 그림자 안에 숨어들어서 목숨을 야금야금 먹습니다... 그래서 픽시는 그림자가 나타나지 않는 어두운곳에 사는 이유랍니다

@@K0alaBairs wha?
In Latin America we name all of them like in English
Spain does it too! The only Pokémon with a different name in both places is Type: Null (Código: Cero)
Yes but with our own accent.
Sadly, I really wish they had unique names :(
Yiglipuf. ;) Yeah, too bad we don't have Spanish names.
우와 정말 유용해요 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 외국인 친구한테 포켓몬 이름 설명을 못해서 답답했는데 속이 뻥!
Dave your videos are so satisfying...actually I'm a university student of languages in Italy and I'm studying Chinese and Japanese, Korean language is also a big passion for me, so this was REALLY educational. I know that Pokemon is an anime, but using this as an approach to different languages will make everything more interesting. I'm glad that there are youtubers like you who make this type of content! 많은 키스💕🤞
I love your videos!! 💕 especially when it's so funny like this one. kisses from Brazil!
And then there is Germany who also changes the name😂😂😂
The Abra evolutions are named after kids spell in Germany ^^
Abra
Kadabra
Simsala
Snorlax is calles Relaxo here😂😂
PUMMELUFF
The three languages I’m learning just got together and attempted to kill me, I’m alive though
15:32 망나뇽 너무 궁금했어요.
방탄 소년단이 영국에서 인터뷰했을때,
RM군이 가장 좋아하는 포켓몬 캐릭터가
망나니용이라 했거든요. 그러면서 영어이름은 뭐지? 했어요.
오늘에서야 덕분에 알게되었어요. Dragonite이였군요!
감사해요. 재밌었어요.😁
정말이지 시간이 아깝지 않은 유익한 시간이었습니다.
LMFO the "H" thing always gets you Dave!!! hahahahaha omg I can't...so funny hahahaha
7:03 okay but the way I just found out about this makes me mad. I literally watched 8 seasons of pokémon to know about this just now, madness luv.
