- Today Jaein, Erina, Jangmin and I went over some unique Cultural differences between eachother's countries. We specifically looked for stuff that was unique to that country and or completely absent in Korea. I hope you guys enjoy it and find it informative and fun. If you guys have anything you want to add on, let us known in the comments. I plan to continue this series and rotate the guests and talk about new countries and cultures in each new video :)

Comparison of the same sentence in different Spanish languages:
Meaning in English: Please, can you speak more slowly?
Spanish: Por favor, puedes hablar más despacio?
Basque (Euskera): Astiro-astiro hitz egin mesedez
Catalan/Valencian: Si us plau, pots parlar més a poc a poc?
Aranese (Occitan): Se vos platz, pòdes parlar mès pòga pòc?
Aragonese: Por favor, puetz charrar mas lento?
Astur-Leonese: Por favor, pue falar más despacio?
Galician: Por favor, podes falar maís amodiño?
All of the above are romance languages except for Basque, which is not related to any other living language. Some of the romance languages like Occitan and Catalan are very closely related. Some are a bit more distant.
I think in valenciano we use more perfavor and no si us plau
It's máis not maís in Galician!

David: Yeah, Americans can buy guns.
Everyone: 😮
It's common, isn't a surprise
Dan Dei
Only in America. Literally no other country has commonplace stores that will sell guns.
@@dandei545 Common in America, there's little to no place here that sells weaponry
I feel like Jaein and Erina is how I see the visuals of Korean and Japanese girls. Korean girls have this elegant beauty about them and Japanese girls are freaking cute.
In spain when its between 2-5pm we usually dont talk loudly on the streets or call on anyones phone. We are always like "oh, dont call x, hes probably taking a nap" or "dont talk to loudly, people must be taking a nap". But im spanish and i HATE taking naps, its a thing that that most of the people do, but not everyone.
Another one is that in Spain you are able to drink alcohol when you turn 18, so its weird to go to another countries and see that you aren't able to drink it :/
Ohmysuga which part of Spain are you from? Because I’ve never heard anyone say “don’t call because they might be taking a nap”, maybe it’s because i’m from the north? The nap culture is almost non existent there
@@Risperanto im from Madrid, idk i usually hear that a lot..
Here in the north I think that it isn't that common especially during winter. During winter no one takes a nap cause we're working/studying and during summer I think it's up to each one
Patricia Fañanas exactly! Actually, it kinda bothers me when someone takes for granted that every Spaniard has to take a nap because it’s “tradition”. But well, if we have to speak about cliche Spanish traditions I actually don’t identify with almost any of them so (as I said, in the North things are different 🤷🏻♀️) I’m from Galicia, btw xD
@@Risperanto yeah it bothers me too. I'm from Bilbao and believe me that most of the people I know don't take a nap during winter unless they are very tired and really need it and during summer neither cause here it's not like in Andalucia that they can't go out till 6 because of the heat

“everyone has guns” idk why that made me laugh so much
Actually only 20% of Americans own a gun, but there are far more guns in the US than people. So the average gun owner in the US has atleast 5 guns.
Lol here in AZ you don't even need a license to conceal carry you just have to be 23
@@Drialeth wtf
@@ArchesBro My cousins are gun owners, can confirm. Gun owners seem to never just have one, they have like at least one of each type, pistol, shotgun, rifle, with semi auto, lever action, bolt action. Some historical collectors as well, who'll definitely have a lot
@@jangtheconqueror Yeah, most of my relatives and I have multiple guns. I think it is moreso that we have 1-2 shotguns between us, multiple old hunting rifles, a collection of AR-15s and similar modern rifles, and some people have concealed pistols or military service pistols. It really depends on what region someone is from and how wealthy they are.

The drinking laws in England are complicated. You can only buy alcohol once you turn 18, however people between 16 and 18 years old drink beer, wine or cider with a meal at a licensed premise so long as someone over 18 buys it and is eating with them. Also in private premises it is legal for anyone above the age of 5 to drink alcohol.
Above age 5???
NZ is similar, 18 and over you can buy your own drinks, but from 16 as long as an adult/guardian has brought the alcohol and is supervising they can drink as well. but because of the drinking culture here most kids form the age of 13/14 (younger for me) have had a sip of some kind of alcohol at like x-mas or on the new years with the family
In Belgium is the same as Germany.
Pretty much everything Jangmin said can be applied to the italian culture too! Gotta love the mediterrian culture
not everything, at least in the north we eat at 7:30-8 pm, the breakfast is far before 8 am and the sleeping thing and siesta doesn't exist; we also only use the father last name. For other things we are pretty much like the spanish.
@@flecter Un po' di tempo fa c'era anche da noi la siesta, ora non piú
Some stuff can be applied to France too, especially southern France
same thing with portugal!
And most Latin America too
It's really interesting! I felt that each country should respect each other as different cultures. I'll look forward to seeing more useful videos.

In Australia we are very laid back. If they want to, people can wear bathing suits or no shoes in the supermarket, fast food eateries, voting booths, etc and most people wouldn't think it's rude. Also, we are very casual when talking to our seniors, even our boss at work. I call my boss by his first name, and when I was at university, we called our teachers by their first names. I noticed that foreign students often had a difficult time with that, and thought it was rude, so they would often say "sir" or "ma'am". It would be interesting to know other cultures that speak so informally, or would most cultures find it rude?
In Finland you call your teachers by their first name. I honestly don't even remember/know some of my teachers last names.
I had this super nice teacher a couple of years back and our class called her by this nickname that we came up with lol
She was cool with it :D
haha yes aussie, it is pretty much the same in nz, we would call teachers miss and sir rather than their names in high school, and at uni it was just their first names. you always see someone with no shoes in in public (i write while at uni sitting at a table with my feet up, no shoes on), and cursing is done a lot and is considered 'okay' as long as it is not in a negative context (one the shocks foreigners here is when you call ya mate 'a good cunt')
In germany it depends tbh. You only use the first name of your teachers in primary school and after that you have to adress them formally.. which is actually kind of annoying to change as a habit. In university u stick with the last name as well. For jobs its different everywhere. I use the first name of my boss but my friend uses formal language towords her boss. It's so cool that there are countrys as chilled as Australia somehow. A little respect towords authorities is still necessary in my opinion :))
I'm from New Zealand and I have several friends who call their own parents by their first name! Unthinkable in Korea hahaha.
My friend from Medellín, Colombia once told me that they also use the tú with their teachers and call them by the first name, or just 'Pro'!

For drinking age: US has a higher age in order to prevent teens from drunk driving, since earliest legal driving age is 16.
Parents always with kids: besides dangers of kidnapping/muggings, don't forget that US is a BIG place, so kids can't always go to a store in reasonable walking distance without needing their parents to drive them there too. But kids will generally walk by themselves to stores in suburban areas (at least, they do where I'm from).
Guns: yes, it's super easy to buy, carry/conceal compared to other places. But there are zero tolerance zones where guns aren't permitted AT ALL. Though not every state requires people get a permit to buy or take classes for permit.
The Wal-Mart I go to has the guns and knives right next to the toys.
grownup toys, saves me from taking a trip around the entire store.
Same
Is it really true that u can get gun license so easily..like really XD XD istill cant believe ,like ithought that was anew thing sense the obama government
@@xxmemonixxx9686 usually the license is only to carry it around with you. You only need an ID to buy a gun in most states. I have 2 handguns and a few rifles but don't have my license to carry so I can't put a handgun in my pocket and go to the store. If I had my license I could. I dont think theres any restrictions on rifles here. I can carry it down the street as long as I'm holding it in a non threatening way.
I think getting a license is easy in Texas. I think it's one day in a classroom and one day shooting. If you pass then you take all the required paperwork and send it to the state and the state sends you your license in a few weeks.
@@xxmemonixxx9686 Yeah, like here in Washington state the day you turn 18 you're legally able to buy a rifle or shotgun as long as it doesn't have a pistol like grip. Like the most they do is a background check and make sure you're actually 18.

In the US I don't even call the waiter I just wait till they stop by the table cuz they just come routinely😅 I think that's what most people do
Yeah we do that in England as well, I’d find it awkward to call out loud for them
That's actually kind frustrating. Like sometimes if the restaurant is busy, the waiter takes a long time to get back to our table and it's like we end up spending such a long time just....waiting.
It‘s also like that in switzerland
Yeah usually if it’s taking too long I’ll kinda raise my hand to signal them but that’s only if it’s busy (:
Nah one time I had to wait an hour for my food I felt the right to yelled for them and they kept saying it’ll be done instead of telling me that they ran out the food but that’s my experience but usually I raise my hand if I see them

You might like to know that human circadian rhythm (natural body clock cycle) fits with the siesta culture. According to our biology, the whole world should be doing it like Spain. Not necessarily napping, but at least resting, if we don't nap.

Papua New Guinea: *Watching in +800 languages* .
Well Indonesia is 10 times Spain xD... and in Spain we have 7 languages and three dialects of Spanish. He just skipped the minor ones. At least more languages than those of Korea, Japan or the USA hahaha
@@Alejojojo6 Actually, the US has around 150 native languages that are still spoken today. At one time, California was arguably the most linguistically diverse place on the planet, with at least 20 major language families spoken there (modern Europe only has 3, excluding isolates).

Korea has only 1 languages
@@quantumsoma2585 There is a big difference between native (the native is usually quite isolated, in Spain it does not happen. If we do it like this, Spain has many more languages. In France :
- We just eat 3 meals (or 4 if you have a snack) : breakfast, lunch at midday (normally, but it depends on families), snack at 4 PM and dinner at 7 PM (it depends on families too)
- You can eat with your plane or your bowl on the table or in your hands, both are ok with us. But if you are on a table with family or in restaurant or in the refectory/canteen/cafeteria, it's better if you don't take your plane or bowl in your hands. But if you are with your friends in your house, or alone on your sofa, we don't care, do what you want to do !!!
- we don't need to have a tip, and you can have a tip just if your job is Server or Taxi Driver. Because in France you have a sufficient salary, you have rights and you're protecting unlike the USA where you don't have a fixed salary. You don't have to give a tip but it's well seen in France, and you give a tip depending on the work of the person. If you are satisfied with his work, you can give a tip.
- we just have French for our languages and after we have some dialects.
- we can't have a gun in France, expect the police.
- when you have a child, you can give to him or her, the mother's last name (if both are ok or if we don't know who is the dad of the child), but most often, you had your dad's last name.
- in the subways or bus, most often, people have earphones and listen to music. people can talk with their friends but no loudy, and you can talk on the phone but almost nobody does it by modesty and respect or they speak normally on the phone but in another language, like that, nobody understands them lol
- You don't walk on the streets alone, in France. The parents can be scared because of pedophiles or just because the children can have a accident. Parents leave alone their children when we have 11~12 years I think. It's difficult to me to give you an age because I didn't have a normally family (like handicaps, jobs that start early and end late,...) so I was left alone soon enough, around 7~8 years old.
- You can start drinking and buy alcohol at 18 in France (19 in Korean age), but most often, 12 years old's children already drink alcohol several times.
- often, the server takes a tour of the tables and asks if we want to take our order, but most often it's like what Dave and Jangmin do, just like an "excuse me" or lifted arm.
- we drink alcohol during the meal, like wine, or during the appetizer or both!
I'm sorry if my English is bad, I'm French so please forgive me and correct me if anything is wrong ! I hope I can help you to discover French culture !
Ton anglais c'est très bon, en fait!
The only things I could grasp that may have to be changed are "protected" instead of protecting, because you are receiving protection, not giving it. Also. "normal" instead of normally, because it is an adjective, not an adverb,.
Besides from that, you just have a couple typos or the usual forgetting the n in "an" before a word that starts with a vowel, mais pour un texte si prolongé je crois que tu as un niveau impressionnant de logique dans ta rédaction. Desolée pour le mauvais français, j'etudié pendant quelques années, mais je suis sur que j'oublié toutes les mots; cependant, j'essaie de me communiquer dans cette langue quand j'ai l'opportunité. Salut depuis Mexique!
Y'all must make a part 2!!! Very informative and entertaining to watch. Also, I miss Vai):
You could show the differences of gestures in different countries. It will be very interesting. For example, how to count with fingers, calling people with hands, and how to knock the door etc.
Persona 5 and Final fantasy XV bgm really fits for the video ~ I really like the concept of this one ! Keep it up with the hard work Dave !!!
i see you're a man of culture as well
I really love this kind of videos! Here in Chile almost all people have 2 names and 2 surnames (our parents' surnames) some people also have only one and other up to 3 names hahaha. Regarding meals we have three breakfast, lunch and dinner but in breakfast and dinner we only have tea/coffee/milk with bread and that's it! Also here in Chile you are allow to drink and smoke if you are over 18 and the most common in almost all latin american countries is that we kiss when we meet (even if you meet strangers) It like a kiss on the cheek but you just touch each other cheeks like pretending a kiss and just make the sound of it. Again, I love this kind of videos and I really love all Dave's channel content! I've been a suscriber since years now and I'm a really fan of everyone of you💕 Love from Chile!
About Spain having many languages, it is really coool!!!! Like, in Galician we have like 70 words to talk about how it is raining, if it is hard or soft and things like that, and since I came to Madrid to study I've been struggling a lot when it starts to rain and I say "oh, empieza a orballar" and my friends stare at me like ??? I find it really interesting. And not just that, there are a lot of expressions here in Madrid and other spanish cities that I've never heard before and I'm just like "are we speaking the same Spanish?"
And then words that mean very different things, for example, in Galician "ano" means years old, like if you have 3 anos you're 3 years old, but in Spanish "ano" is anus. If you want to talk about your age in Spanish you say " años", and años in Galician means lamb.
There are other cultural differences, like Carnival in most parts of Spain is just one day, in Galicia is called Entroido and is like a whole week and all weekends of the month, with traditional clothes and usually making fun of famous people and politicians.
And about the food, in small villages in Galicia is common to have a place at the village, not far away from your house, where you can have pigs, lambs, sheeps, and more animals and we feed them and take care of them and then we ourselves kill them and prepare all the food to eat all year. So it is the best food always, with potatoes, lettuce, tomatoes, ans other things that we plant. Basically you can live in Galician villages with your own food, buying just things like milk and bread.
I really love how diverse Spain is, even if I'm eating bad now that I'm here, Madrid is interesting too!!!
Wow, this is fascinating! Thank you so much for sharing. 😍
This is so cool!!
Pero come bien muchacha! No sabía esos datos de Galicia, no tenía ni idea. Es genial 😊

Well In India there are around 1600 mother languages and 22 official languages. Even if Hindi is quite common not all of the people speaks it. We sometimes may need a translator while travelling into another state.

I like this channel!! :)
Here in Chile we have a lot of unique things, I can relate a lot with the Spain culture because we have also a gap where stores are closed (here it’s more like between 2:00 and 4:00), we have something called “once” that is before the dinner, some people here don’t eat dinner but just with the “once” are okay (consists on bread, some tea or coffee, something like a breakfast actually and it’s like religiously done by almost every Chilean family)... parties start late here, normally they start at midnight or past midnight and sometimes we have before-party (previa) at 9 pm (around it), the actual party after the previa, and for the most courageous ones we have also the after-party at 5 or 6 am when the bar or disco you where at closes, so for hard-party kind of people this is an amazing place to come 🔥 another cool thing about Chile is that we have almost any type of weather you can imagine so you can choose whether you want to go (in my city normally we have in summer between 24 and 32 degrees C, and in winter between 5 and 18 degrees C)... I could go ahead but I would never stop writing 😂 I love learning about different cultures, thanks for sharing this!!
Actually in America they do have calling buttons in restaurants but ONLY in Japanese and Korean restaurants
Red Robin and Olive Garden have them now too
Oh that’s good
lol not in the Japanese or Korean restaurants in my area
That’s sad
데이브님 감기조심하세용~
I really appreciate that there was someone from spain, i could relate to everything he said
12:36초에 되서가 아니라 돼서 입니당! 좋은 영상 감사해요~!
