Hey Stephan any thoughts on how to pull guard in a way that more realistic for today's tournaments where it I take that much to to get set up, the other guy will just pull first?
Sorry, it's not my move. You need to be extremely flexible to pull that off or you risk hurting your knee. Lots of other tutorials about that online though...
Pullind guard should be penalized...and that's the end of the problem, it should only be allowed when you take your opponent with you to the ground...in a clear attempt at submission or at least to take him to your guard.
A few answers maybe. It might be that pulling guard rather than breaking the clinch and moving away and back out into striking range is not desirable. Another is that while it looks disadvantageous, there's actually a lot one can do from guard in terms of punch block/defense, positional improvement/reversal, & submission setup Also, it can count as a takedown.
Yea because in real life the guy is gonna be standing still not punching wearing a fucking Robe with a huge collar and is just gonna let u grab him this easily .......great.........
Agreed, looks like an intentional attempt to take it to the ground, bjj is so great for sport. In the street this is stupid. Learn Shoulder throws, hip tosses, and wrestling slams and suplexes. Catch wrestling and Judo is far more interesting to me than bjj.
That's kind of what I was thinking. Looking at this purely from a self-defense perspective, this is really bad tactically. For sport or competition this might be fine. However, you would not want to do this in a real confrontation.
ryan dravinski Tbh “ in the streets “ this( all BJJ) could work. If you trained in any self defense/combat you’re 2x better than anyone fighting in the streets because people in the streets aren’t thinking of their next move they’re just throwing punches/head hunting and doing take downs
@@rye-bread5236 What are you on about? Even in wrestling practice there are ppl who get on bottom turtle intentionally to get better at gut wrenching. And bjj players get on bottoms to get better at guards. If you don’t learn how to pull and just lie on your ass you will get your guard passed instantly lol
I have kids. Could you imagine if one of their friends found out dad pulled guard? Lol
They would be very impressed

@@legolassonofthranduir33254 true story. I tried to stand up with a 320lbs 10th planet purple belt and he pancaked me twice 😂
Love the beginner videos. Need all the help I can get! Thanks!
1:45 wiii🤣
Some Judo for BJJ would make a great video topic
I needed this video so much. thanks, gonna start working on this tomorrow.
Glad it helped!
Get grips on arm, leg to hip on same side- yes! Helpful!
"if I see anyone pull guard in here I will smash you through the wall"-tim Kennedy.
This is bjj, not MMA.
@Eduardo Ramos I wasn't aware bjj wasn't a martial art.
@@Naxvarus are you Dumb? Or just tryng to be funny? Bjj is a marcial art without punches, so you can pull guard. Theres no problem champ
Literally just came from there lol
@@eduardoramos5901 thats why bjj is for pussies...pulling guard is for pussies...
CATCH WRESTLING is for MEN, BJJ is for PUSSIES

Ha! Words straight out of my head !
cool. can you do a no gi version of this?
Simple, effective, and to the point. I love the amount of detail you pack into these short videos! Oss!
Weee.. :D

Perfect, thanks
Thank you
May I recommend you make a video on the gogoplata choke? I've discovered it recently and want to perfect it as soon as possible

Stephan Kesting OK well thanks for at least letting me know and not just leaving it there
It's guard Jim, but not as we know it.
Eu amo teus vídeos
Stephan, what do you think of the tomoe nage style guard pull with the non-hip foot way out?
That can totally work. Tomoe Nage doesn't work as well in BJJ as Judo thanks to the more defensive posture, but it's still a great way to pull guard
Awesome, thx ppl keep doing the foot on hip the collar grip side ...😐

Hello Imgur!
If you don't mind me asking, what's the point of pulling guard? (Novice)

I pull guard everytime a drunk guy wants a fight, just wait until he can’t be arsed anymore and stops trying to hit me haha works most of the time.
Now I'm ready.
Yea because in real life the guy is gonna be standing still not punching wearing a fucking Robe with a huge collar and is just gonna let u grab him this easily .......great.........
This is a demonstration, a lesson so the viewer can watch and this is for the sport of BJJ not a street fight idiot
There's also no refs or points in real life. It's almost like this guy is showing a move to use in competitions.
this position in real fight , hehe ,, sorry ,but this position , this is 'kick in the balls'
true, but bad call if they do lol!
Torpedo2529 you can't.
his leg on your hips
You could go for a stomach throw, but I wouldn't recommend doing a sacrifice throw on the street
Ew!
how ? simple. DONT. learn takedowns.
its lame.
i dont teach it, i teach real takedowns.. do some judo, and grow up ^^
