How to Knit a Corner to Corner (C2C) Baby Blanket - Glen Echo Free Blanket Knitting Pattern

  • Welcome to the Blue Mouse Knits! Today I'll be walking you through my Glen Echo baby blanket pattern - this is a gorgeous, textured blanket worked from corner to corner instead of bottom to top. This blanket is worked on the bias using garter and twisted rib stitches.

    SKILL LEVEL: Advanced Beginner - Intermediate
    Potentially challenging techniques: twisted rib, YO, SSK, K2TOG, CDD
    INTRODUCTION
    Glen echo is a timeless and elegant baby blanket that is worked on the bias to create a perfect square with alternating sections of twisted rib and garter stitch. The unique construction of this blanket creates a unique and timeless look that is sure to become a treasured heirloom for generations to come.
    SIZING
    Fully customizable - makes any size square.
    MATERIALS
    YARN - your preferred yarn
    - Any yarn weight and yarn material will work.
    - Yardage will vary depending on the size you make.
    Sample uses: I Love This Cotton (100% Cotton, 180 yds {165 m}/100g {3.5 oz}) in the colorway Parchment.
    NEEDLES
    - Circular needles in any needle size that works well with your chosen yarn. I recommend circulars with 32" {80 cm} cord lengths.
    - Sample used a set of US 8 {5 mm} circulars (32" {80 cm} long) with worsted weight yarn.

    OTHER MATERIALS
    Yarn needle & stitch markers.
    GAUGE
    Works with any gauge.
    Find a yarn and needle combo you like, no gauge needed.

    I am going to figure out how to work this as a straight across blanket. I know it won’t have the eyelet edging all around but it’s a good compromise for me.

    I just finished this blanket and I am tearing it out. I love the look of the garter and twisted rib but the blanket did not square up at the end. It came out misshapen and I don’t think a new mom would take the time to keep blocking it after every wash.

    Thank you for this pattern. Is there any chance the blanket can be a rectangle?

      Hi, thanks for your comment! Unfortunately the way this pattern is written it can really only be a square. But you could probably cast on an odd # and work stripes of twisted rib and garter to create a rectangle instead of following this exact pattern. Hope that helps!
