- At Long Last Love (1975). Director: Peter Bogdanovich Music: Cole Porter
Stars: Burt Reynolds, Cybill Shepherd , Madeline Kahn, Eileen Brennan, John Hillerman, Duilio Del Prete
I have fallen in love with this film from the first viewing and despite all its unsuccessful history, I consider it innovative and amusing and name it a brilliant and stylish parody. Thanks Mr.Bogdanovich!
Others numbers from this film:
"Well Did Ya Evah?" • "Well Did Ya Evah?"
"Most Gentlemen Don't Like Love" • "Most Gentlemen Don't ...
"Find Me a Primitive Man" • Find Me a Primitive Man
and • At Long Last Love 1975 - Кино
I like this movie.
0:55 For years, I could never figure out if John Hillerman singing too fast and off-key was a deliberate in-character thing, or a mistake that they just decided not to reshoot.
I reckon the character is breaking the fourth wall with that first line. He’s the driver and his car is full of distracting arrogant drunks singing about being friends. He’s not feeling friendly. Obviously he has to be part of the musical number, it’s in his car. So he spits out that first line without any warmth or fluency.
He’s back on key/time for his second line so I get the impression he knows what he’s doing with that first line.
This is a great film, not sure why it was ripped apart... far worse has gotten praise and awards.
One of the scenes in the film where Bogdanovich best captured what he was going for with this affectionate replication of a 1930s musical.
Al the scenes with Hilllerman and Brennan together.
Gorgeous looking movie! Not sure why it was so ripped apart. Far worse have been praised to the ends of the Earth.
At least they all seem to be having a good time! I am impressed with Burt's tap dancing in the film. Hey, they tried it, it didn't work...such is life. Everyone looks great in the film too!
It did work.
Well At Long Last Love has been pulled out of the meltdown pile and has been re evaluated . Critics carved it up and Peter Bogdonavich was so traumatized even he abandoned it and ran for cover . A version appeared on Net Flix and PB heard about it and heard people loved the film. I guess it has moved its way to cult classic status
Dear god I love the expression on the driver’s face...”Jesus Christ, what the hell did I get myself into?”
Poor Burt. He said he could sing. He told Peter Bogdonavich so and..... well....
No Sing Burt!! 😳 🙉
😢
So how many Oscars did Peter Bogdanovich homage to 1930s musicals win ??
it is deliciously silly and funny....
Yes, you are right. But actually, all film entirely does it
'Creek' and rhymes with 'slick'--he was Italian, get it?
WHY DID NETFLIX TAKE THIS DOWN. :(
Maybe they had too many complaints of viewers being bored to death....
Where did you find this film? I am searching for this film because I heard its one of the worst films ever made and I wanted to see it, even if never got a home video release.
One of the biggest musical stinkers (and box-office bombs) of all time. Playing off the hype of 1929's "Broadway Melody" as the first "all singing, all dancing musical" -- critics quickly dubbed this one the first "no singing, no dancing musical". Needless to say, Burt and Cybil didn't go on to great things in the musical department.
it's actually quite funny. I saw it new in a cinema and loved it. Very stylish and just great fun.
@@paulbrennan3816 An elderly pro film editor got hold of all the deleted scenes , everything . This man had worked in Cole Porter shows when he was young . His philosophy was “ You have a good film . It just wasn’t put together right “ That is when the movie got re evaluated and found its audience who loved it after that editor went to work
It wasn't meant as a "paraody" at all!!!
It's so (enjoyably) bad that it resembles one!!!
It's not bad... get new eyes.
@@theessentials450 I was 18 . Had a car . Totally embarking on my film fan career . I always read reviews . I laughed at the acerbic comments and avoided the picture . Wish I hadn’t. Bogdanovich got so traumatized he went into hiding . It is on You Tube . Finally after decades it was found , popped up on Net Flix , and re evaluated , yet it was a version Creator Peter Bogdonavich didn’t recognize . An aging Professional editor who was alive when Cole Porter was and had worked on some of his shows found all the footage and put it together the way he felt it ought to be . PB got word of its new incarnation and how people were loving the film . It was a hit and Bigdanovich loved it too . Oh well .
