  • Men’s 5000m Result:
    1. Paul Chelimo - 13:26.82
    2. Grant Fisher - 13:27.01
    3. Woody Kincaid - 13:27.13
    4. Cooper Teare - 13:28.08
    5. Emmanuel Bor - 13:30.30
    6. Morgan Beadleschomb - 13:30.90
    7. Robert Brandt - 13:32.21
    8. Conner Mantz - 13:32.69
Although there was a lot of clippings and pushing going on, it was a walk in the park win for the veteran Paul Chelimo and finished first in this Olympic Team Trials. Textbook strategy for the last 100m as well to let the runners behind you run longer distance. Happy that Grant Fisher was able to make the team. But was really rooting for Cooper Teare to get in the cut but nonetheless he was able to keep up with the world class long distance runners and finished forth. Looking forward for fireworks in the Tokyo Olympics for the 5000m run.

@@paulevans240 “blatant blocking” gets actually physical. he moved out wide and made em work for it, which is a race strategy u see mostly in the 800 or the 4x4. they did it in the preliminaries for the 800 (wasn’t as exaggerated) and Brazier took advantage of it and won the heat, waiting for the opening and running thru it. it’s risky but can pay off as we seen with Chelimo

I think something that not many people bring up about the finish is that Fisher and Woody are also moving to the outside. Had Chelimo moved in front of Grant and Grant didn't slow down or also move, causing a collision, yes absolutey a DQ on Chelimo. Maybe it's the camera angle, but I don't think Chelimo is ever directly in front of Grant. Or at least until the last 10 or so meters, he doesn't have both of his legs in front of both of Grant's legs, which could have caused a collision. What I'm saying is, there could have been far worse fouls to take place.
