Oh for sure! I love cockatoos and birds in general. Cockatoos are some of the smartest parrots out there, up there with African Greys. From what I know, cockatoos have roughly the same intelligence as a human toddler. They’re super smart animals.
“Just a bird” In this same video we just heard this parrot say I love this. Which means he knows what love means in our language. Plus he was able to put together a complete sentence.
Many birds especially Cockatoos would recognize their imagine. The really cool thing is that they pause and wait to see what you are introducing them too. The human brings all these fun toys and games that they can play together. He may think that the tattoo bird is going to perch and then fly around the room. Humans are very interesting creatures to them.

This made me think of my sweet feisty chicken Twinkle, I only had her for six years before a fox unfortunately killed her, but she was an amazing bird! Twinkle was best friends with my cat, I still have photos of the two of them cuddling. We had two kittens and a goat grow up with her and learned to respect her even when they became bigger than her, she’d ride around on the goat’s back, it was so cute. She was a free bird, she’d sleep in trees or on the roof of our car, we could never keeps her in the pen we had, she’d always find a way to escape. She also used to love riding on my shoulders and I’d take her into town with me on walks. I miss her every day.
I grew up around chickens. They aren't the smartest bird but they're just as capable of love and affection as any other living thing. We had this tiny little rescue once. She was a black rock, small and cute, called Petit Poulet (Little Chicken in French I believe). She would let my stepmother pick her up and she would sit on her lap. Sweetest little thing
Yes, many years ago my friend's father passed away and my friend inherited his cockatoo, Rocky. His father got Rocky in 1958 and he is still going strong. These really are life long companions so please take this into consideration before making the commitment. Rocky was very lucky my friend loves him just as much as his father did, but unfortunately the sad truth is many are abandoned after their owners pass away.
@@eireannemerald1382 Yes absolutely right!! You have to remember in this case my friend grew up his entire life with Rocky. When his father passed away, this wasn't an adoption, it was an inheritance. They are essentially brothers and like it or not, know they are stuck with each other until the end.
Oldest Cockatoo on record was a Major Mitchel's (also known as a Leadbeater) Cockatoo named Cookie that lived at the Brooklyn Zoo to at least the age of 83 - that's how long he lived at the Zoo, it's possible he was even older. Winston Churchill's old Blue and Gold Macaw is also alive and kicking at the ripe old (estimated) age of 114, and she's infamous for having picked up quite a few of Churchill's private rants during WWII.
I have an African grey that was orphaned when his previous owner died of cancer. He's kind of a failed rescue in that 2 attempted placements failed b/c he's unpredictably aggressive (bit thru my septum right after I got him) but we've been together 8 years now so we have things figured out. He's not a companion bird but he's part of the family anyway, just in his own way.
My Sister had a Cockatoo and he was just in love with me. I lived across the street from her and the second he would see me outside he would start screaming out the window. She would call me and ask to come over to say hello because he wouldn't stop yelling. When I would walk in he would make his way and open his door and tell me to " Come here", he would then climb on my arm and start asking " How are you?" he would say things like... "Whatcha do'in....Do you love milk( His name was Milk), he would tell me he loved me, whistle at me, just the most loving bird ever. well, I had to move and he became depressed, he began rocking while looking out the window so she had to move his spot. He would call my name over and over so she would replay a voice recording I left her on her voicemail so he could hear me calling his name. That sweet bird got a toenail infection that gave him a hard time on the stoop. During the operation, he passed. Such a loving bird, I do understand the affection he has for this Bird, I loved Milk too!

I never realized a bird who can still fly would not necissarily fly away if taken outdoors. I'm so glad you haven't clipped his wings. What a very special bird ❤❤
For centuries humans used messenger pigeons to communicate over long distances. Despite their freedom to travel, birds have a strong sense of "home". If a bird feels that your home is also their home, they wouldn't just abandon it without a very good reason. The vast majority of the time, if a bird leaves its home it will come back in a short while.
Yeah, I feel the same way. I never felt I owned any of my animal friends, They lived with me. We have been friends. I don't believe you can own them. Maybe for reasons having to do with legal accountability, but not for real.
You're truly blessed to have this special bond, but most importantly, parrots live for such a long time. I wish I had more time with the animals I had my bonds with
Parrots are highly intelligent sensitive animals. When they get stressed, they suffer. Neurotic birds become that way when owners are abusive. The birds become aggressive, depressed, which is what happens when they pluck their own feathers. This is a love story that warms my heart. 😍🧡
I know someone who adopted this type of bird from a shelter and he was in terrible shape he’s slowly recovering but the first few months after I found out she had him I was judging her for his condition, then she explained why he was like that and how she hadn’t had him for vary long . 2 years I think and she told me they are like a 2 -3 year old child you wouldn’t expect a child to recover from extreme trauma in only 2 years, it really hit me then why so many rescue birds I saw were still pulling feathers even though they were in a good home it takes time for them to mentally heal. I think this bird probably had a good home that realized they couldn’t give him what he needed before he was traumatized otherwise he wouldn’t have bond with his person so quickly.
I think Beau won the lottery. Turned in by a previous family, he could have wound up plucking his feathers out and going nuts. But he got just the right owner! Blessings on the both of you!

Sir, don't waste your time explaining your relationship to other people. Just enjoy your special relationship with your bird and always do right by him. However, please be super aware there are always raptors out there and they can swoop down and attack before you can react. Many have lost their precious loved ones in this manner.
My budgie stayed at my parents when I moved in with my now husband because he has a cat. Every time I go to my parents I still expect Bobby to be there in the kitchen greating me, even though it's a decade since he died. He was 14years old. I live about 300km away from my parents and we try to visit every 2 months. My Bobby died in my hands, he was ill before, this time he didn't recovered. He waited until I came home to say good bye. I had two days with him, where he almost was his old self.
That’s how my parrot is, he can fly but instead he walks around instead. He doesn’t know he’s a bird, he thinks he’s a dog, since he was raised with dogs. He won’t even play with bird toys, only dog toys. He’s silly.
I think most birds are like that. They fly when they have to or it's more convenient, but otherwise they prefer to walk. It's like people, we could run everywhere if we wanted to but given the option most will prefer to walk.
@craig reid A pigeon and an emu were arrested for murder. The emu was found not guilty, and walked free. The pigeon was found guilty and executed by firing squab.
Then do right by them by fulfilling their needs. Like social contact. Parrots and similar social birds form strong pair bonds to another bird of the same species, and they need that bond. Keeping a bird like this alone is animal abuse. In my country it's even illegal by law for that reason. So if that guy doesn't have good reasons for keeping the bird alone (like aggression against other birds or health issues), he'd do something that's illegal and forbidden and immoral to my countries standards.
Love seeing videos of people with birds! It’s a lifelong commitment. A lot of people don’t understand how long these birds live for. If in a healthy environment they can live 60 years no problem. It’s a big commitment due not only to the length of time but the amount of social interaction that the birds require. In the wild the live in fairly large, communal gatherings. They have social interactions much the same as humans. My grandfather had African grey until time he died. He spent a lot of the last 2 years of his life finding a suitable home for Shakespeare… the parrot.
This reminds me of my husband and our male Cockatiel Rio. My husband was not keen on me getting a bird but I had always wanted a cockatiel. At 1st he would just talk to him & pet him but never wanted to hold him. Fast forward a year later those 2 are best buddies. Rio picked him and those two have a very strong bond. Rio says several phrases, whistles so many tunes & makes certain noises like a laugh, calling the birds, woofs as in a dog woof & many more! Now we have 3 and we adore each one. Birds are so such great wonderful pets. ❤️🦜
This is true. You can never fool an animal. They know exactly who will love them and who is faking. Animals are so much better then a lot of people I know as well.
I loved the fact that he didn't cage Beau. People cage birds because they think that if the birds are free then they will fly away and will never come back again. But the truth is that, if you love someone and if that creature loves you, then he/she will come back to you, no matter what. You don't need a cage, you just need to have a kind, compassionate and loving heart.
I'm glad most people I know with cockatoos only cage them for sleep , f Though I prefer the friends that dont lock those cages. Once your bird likes ya enough it dont like going to bed just cuz you arent around. Is good to sleep where your bird can see you through the cage
Chand... Flying away is a real concern as well as safety. If they fly away they will get lost and the chance of getting them coming back is slim asd they won't be able to identify your house from up above. As well they dont know how to survive in the wild and therefore exposed to predators and other elements that can be a threat to them. My love bird has a cage and loves being in it. It's her space and safe haven. When I'm at work she's in her cage as otherwise she will chew cords and other things that are a risk to her. When I come home the cage door is opened and she comes out if she wants to. Being a responsible parent to your pets sometimes involves making decisions that others do not agree with. Don't judge but inform yourself on why things are the way they are. Those that abuse their birds however, should be charged as that is not okay.
“... I don’t look at him as a pet, he’s an extension of the family” and “he’s something I didn’t know I needed” Yesssss!! 🥰🤟🏼❤️👍🏽. I completely get it! Critter love /friendship, almost no words can describe its AWSOMENESS and how great you feel! Undeniable and incomparable! 😘🤗
Some of the best love stories do NOT always involve another human being..I'm so glad you found each other!!! Living your best life ❤️ together!! What a great story!! Blessings to you and the whole fam!❤😊
Parrots are such special birds. A lot of people don’t realize how much care and attention they require just to physically function. It very much takes a relationship like this one for a bird like a macaw or a cockatoo to live a long and healthy life. You essentially are taking up the role of a lifelong companion that this bird would form in the wild. They don’t do well with the long separation that usually happens because of work. They take far more effort to keep her happy and healthy than a dog or cat. Thus, it really lifts my heart when I see things like this. This is a relationship I know it’s going to continue to be happy and healthy for as long as both live. However, many birds don’t get to have this sort of special relationship, and suffer negative health repercussions despite all the physical needs that are met. I encourage anyone who is thinking of getting a parrot to call a bird sanctuary first and foremost, and really get into the nitty-gritty of what to expect with life with a parrot. They should be considered extremely exotic and specialized pets. Unfortunately due to their popularity in regular pet stores many people believe they’re making the same kind of commitment they do with a dog, cat or even an easier animal such as a hamster or guinea pig. Some smaller parrots like parakeets make excellent beginner bird pets and should always be considered over larger more beautiful birds such as macaws, African grays, and cockatoos. Adopting or purchasing one of these larger parrots should be considered analogous to adopting a small child that will never grow up and might outlive you depending on how old you are when you get it. Sorry for the lecture on what is a beautiful relationship video, but I felt it needed to be said.
Absolutely. The commitment is near total. What you do NOT see in these types of videos is the chewing destruction of furniture even beyond the toys you must provide them with when not spending virtually every waking moment with them, the incredible mess their feathers and waste make, the work of cleaning and sanitizing their perches/cages and surrounding area. Want to get away for the weekend? Go on a vacation? Difficult as they usually pick ONE person to bond to and can be difficult for other family members to care for than their primary. It cannot be stressed enough of what it takes for the rare person to care for a solitary bird like this appropriately.
Yeah, my friend is Indian and she was gifted a macaw when she was young. Now she's 24, working two jobs, and she feels absolutely terrible leaving the bird home all day by itself. One of her biggest regrets. A wonderful bond, and some hilarious stories, but way too big of a commitment for most people.
Well put...we were those people who purchased an Eclectus parrot without proper knowledge of what they need to be happy and healthy...fortunately we were able to give 'Sam' the attention deserved for example: 4 hourly feeds whilst still a baby, his own padded bed which now sits between our pillows in our bed! full run of the house and back yard enclosure (big cage when we are outside), shared showers followed by blow dry, lots of fresh fruit/veg plus him begging for whatever you are eating! lots of interactions....you get the idea! We would never trade Sam for anything but as you said they are an exotic pet with needs far more specialised than dogs or cats which when not met can equal cruel neglect in my view (hate to see these birds left alone in aluminum cages with a bowl of seed, they must go mad). This guy and bird represent the proper level of care and engagement a parrot requires.
This should be Home Depot's new mascot, and their new slogan should be "I love this." And the bird should be paid millions of dollars for coming up with their slogan and being their spokesman.
Now that I think about it a little bit further I think Home Depot would be doing themselves a huge service if they could make Beau their mascot... They would out advertise Lowe's, Ace or any of the other hardware stores for REAL... AND PEOPLE IN GENERAL WOULD LOVE BEAU just like we do!
I went to go get a cockatoo and that cockatoo wanted nothing to do with me….but my auntie was with me and that bird wanted everything to do with her!!! What I learned about them is,,you don’t pick them! They pick you!!! So my auntie took the bird home and they lived happily ever after!!!
It’s great that you respected that decision! Some people would ignore the bird’s obvious choice and be determined to “make them theirs”! You’ll find your special someone too, I know it!!
Its essential that His person specify who gets him and how he will be provided for in his will. People can say "oh don't worry I'll take him for his rest of his life " Until they really realize what a HUGE COMMITMENT it is. Cockatoos are the NEEDIEST of all bird. They require one on one time EVERY DAY 365 DAYS A YEAR. To keep them in a cage after he has had the love this man showed him. He would grieve the loss greater than a human and pluck all his feathers from stress. People don't realize how sensitive they are!
There is nothing in this world more full filling than that special connection to any pet that never judges you and is always there for you I'm thrilled you two found one another
Hearing Beau say "Hello." around 2:42 is so indescribably cute, it literally leaves me speechless & makes me laugh, respectively. Beau is cute, too!...
"I don't own him, he owns me" yeah, that's what it's like having a bird. They are loud 3 year olds that crave attention and own your life. And yet I love them
And equally, chickens, pigs, alpacas... and even animals known to be not especially ‘social’ such as some lizards, can develop highly bonded attachments to their human companions.
"Whenever I left, he would scream" That sounds about right. Screaming in parrots is both an expression of distress and a way of letting their flockmates know where they are.
They must think that a cockatoo is some kind of pidgeon. If the guy was some kind of pidgeon whisperer i would think that the dude is strange, but a cockatoo is smarter than a dog.
That moment when an animal chooses a person and the person chooses the animal is a magical moment! I have had two very special birds, and I can easily relate to what this gentleman says about Beau. In fact, the "Darwin" in Darwinsmom is my Timneh African Grey. I have also had a wonderful Quaker. There have been connections with several birds owned by neighbours and in pet stores, with whom I have had amazing connections. One of my cats was as attached to my Quaker as I was - they often cuddled together in her wicker basket. There is something about birds that just touches some of us humans deep down, and we are truly the lucky ones. When you are chosen by a bird it is a rare and wonderful thing!

He isn’t “just a bird”! I live in Australia with these, wild. And, they’re incredibly intelligent. They know if you’re a good person or not.
Oh for sure! I love cockatoos and birds in general. Cockatoos are some of the smartest parrots out there, up there with African Greys. From what I know, cockatoos have roughly the same intelligence as a human toddler. They’re super smart animals.

I was thinking same thing. Thank you for mentioning this fact.

What a very special bird ❤❤
Birds are easily trained to fly back to their owners. It’s wonderful to see them spread their wings, and live their best life ❤️
That's so nasty he just takes it around with him. Birds can't controll their bowels or bladder.
In Phoenix so many macaws and cockatoos have gotten loose they now have breeding flocks. Be careful.
Yeah I don't get how some people will clip a Bird's wings or declaw a cat.
All “pet owners” should be this loving to their pets as this guy. They are an extension of the family not just a “pet”.
Yeah, I feel the same way. I never felt I owned any of my animal friends, They lived with me. We have been friends. I don't believe you can own them. Maybe for reasons having to do with legal accountability, but not for real.
I agree 100%
2 years I think and she told me they are like a 2 -3 year old child you wouldn’t expect a child to recover from extreme trauma in only 2 years,
it really hit me then why so many rescue birds I saw were still pulling feathers even though they were in a good home it takes time for them to mentally heal.
I was chosen by a cat of which I am not the 'owner'. I am in a severe moral conflict because of that...

Animals never betray you. Their love is pure, simple and unconditional.
have you met cats?

I loved the fact that he didn't cage Beau. People cage birds because they think that if the birds are free then they will fly away and will never come back again. But the truth is that, if you love someone and if that creature loves you, then he/she will come back to you, no matter what. You don't need a cage, you just need to have a kind, compassionate and loving heart.
sounds very smart to me 🤍 💗 ♡
Friends of mine have a cage for the bird that the bird goes to when it want's to retreat. It's pretty much always open.
I'm glad most people I know with cockatoos only cage them for sleep , f
Though I prefer the friends that dont lock those cages. Once your bird likes ya enough it dont like going to bed just cuz you arent around. Is good to sleep where your bird can see you through the cage
If you love someone, or something, set it free. If it loves you, it will come back to you.
Birds have more personality than most of my coworkers.

Thank you for saving me the trouble - I was going to do the same lecture! lol
Thank you what youve said is really important for people to hear
Oh yes! If Dennis Haysbert can do it for Allstate then why can't Bo do it for home Depot?? Excellent idea!
I meant to spell it Beau... Sorry to the little bird..
Absolutely
One day maybe even promoted to CEO of home depot.
What are they talking about..he's so sweet. I love him!
I went to go get a cockatoo and that cockatoo wanted nothing to do with me….but my auntie was with me and that bird wanted everything to do with her!!! What I learned about them is,,you don’t pick them! They pick you!!! So my auntie took the bird home and they lived happily ever after!!!
A great learning, showing wisdom. Did you find another that wanted you?
@@AndrewBlucher no😂
It’s great that you respected that decision! Some people would ignore the bird’s obvious choice and be determined to “make them theirs”! You’ll find your special someone too, I know it!!

Lol L bozo
This bird is going to always need somebody to completely interact with him the way this man does. He cannot ever lose that.
Let's hope they both live about another 40-50+ years and never have to be without one another for very long.
“I don’t own him, he owns me.” 🥺🥺♥️
There is nothing in this world more full filling than that special connection to any pet that never judges you and is always there for you
I'm thrilled you two found one another
Beau: "I love this!"
🥺🥺🥺🥺
this is too much for my heart. I just wish every single animal in the entire world was so happy and safe.
I wish every person was.
OMG. To quote Beau....,"I love this" What a cool story.....it's the best when an animal picks YOU!!
Beau ~ said that ? 🤗 🥰 💗 🤍
"i gotta go back and watch again" 🙂
friends that can "talk" ~ are neato ♡
being "picked" is very nice 🤍 💗 ♡

Hearing Beau say "Hello." around 2:42 is so indescribably cute, it literally leaves me speechless & makes me laugh, respectively.
Beau is cute, too!...
"I don't own him, he owns me" yeah, that's what it's like having a bird. They are loud 3 year olds that crave attention and own your life. And yet I love them
me too 😂
Dogs & Parrots are highly social animals like humans, you can develop very strong relationships with them.
That's not even touching on the fact they have roughly human intelligence from what I remember
So what are cats they get abused there's alot of strays and your gonna say dogs and parrots are more highly social animals?
And equally, chickens, pigs, alpacas... and even animals known to be not especially ‘social’ such as some lizards, can develop highly bonded attachments to their human companions.
We were not talking about cats, multiple animals have the intelligence to form bonds though
@@imnottalkingtoyouvalenugh5130 nice if you want attention or something then this isn’t the place have a wonderful day.
"Whenever I left, he would scream"
That sounds about right. Screaming in parrots is both an expression of distress and a way of letting their flockmates know where they are.
Aww :(
You both have a lifelong friend that loves unconditionally.
“How could you have so much affection towards a bird?”
Words have been spoken
Sins have been committed
I shall find you
😂
😆😆
“How could you have such affection towards a bird?”
That is not even a question. That’s crazy talk.
Would of been perfect time to get new friends. He's defo outgrown those ..
@@xenuno heh, yeah lol
They must think that a cockatoo is some kind of pidgeon.
If the guy was some kind of pidgeon whisperer i would think that the dude is strange, but a cockatoo is smarter than a dog.
This should be the top comment!
@@AndrewBlucher thanks man, Im trying 😅
@Smileyrie.yeppoon I really enjoyed reading that ☺️ x
You made me cry....... how amazing... wonderful beautiful bird..God bless you both!!
How he holds him up and let's him feel like he is flying is true friendship.
Beau has more personality than a lot of people. L😂L!
Also cuter lol
He’s absolutely the cutest bird I’ve ever seen.
Thank you for sharing your life with Beau, he is so awesome. Give him BIG KISSES AND HUGS from me. BIG LOVE ❤ to you all. xx
