All those years trying to get her to leave them on, now she's not keen to be without (mind you given how cold Winters get around there, I don't blame her wanting a toasty tummy!)
Can I just say how unique this video is? The vet's name: Dr. Plantz The clinic's name: Homey Gnome The clinic: actually has gnomes Cheyenne: wearing a sweater I'm glad the lump isn't serious. More good health to Cheyenne next year and for many more years to come!
Cheyenne actually most of the time wears sweaters now!! Some fan made her some. To keep her naked chicken body warmish. It took her a while to get used to it and she ripped a few but it also helps to not pull out those feathers
More than once makes em, so she has an endless supply! I think they do eventually get torn, but they seem to last a while. And it's so cute she put it back 😂@@Ya_boi_jasper
Cheyenne is such a sweet bird. She’s so tolerant. Not many birds would be that good with all that handling and uncomfortable moving around. Especially with a stranger in a strange place. It just shows how much Emily and Ed work with Cheyenne and socialize her. She’s such a sweet bird.
As a vet tech at an exotic animal practice, bravo to you for how well you’ve desensitized your bird! Macaws are one of the more dangerous birds we work with (think about what a beak that can crack a walnut will do to your finger). Most of the time to do any services on them, we have to sedate them with gas, for their safety and ours. It’s always great when we have a bird that’s so well-handled and tolerant that we can do most services awake on them. Cheyenne is truly wonderful! I’m happy to say I’ve not yet been bit by a macaw (hoping to keep it that way). I have, however, been bit by a sulfur-crested cockatoo. The bite cut almost down to the bone and caused nerve damage in my finger. It was numb for almost two months. And to think, If that bird had been Cheyenne’s size, I likely wouldn’t still have my finger!
Dream clients! We have to sedate 90% of our large birds to do anything to them. Even to just do an examination. I always push for bloodwork and x rays while we have them down to make it count a little more than just a physical 😅
I think people don't think about it or don't realize it's something they can do. Working with your pet beforehand to make exam type motions less scary makes things less stressful for everyone involved in vet visits! I watch a lot of zoo and shows, and I love that they train their animals to perform exam behaviors by choice. I also love Lori Torrini's channel- if she can train snakes to do things like get on a scale, I think most people can do it with their pet! I also know from the vet shows how dangerous sedation can be :
You’re very lucky to have multiple exotic vets nearby. Not everyone can find _one_ within a reasonable distance. We definitely need more exotic vets in the world. ETA: I love that the clinic is called Homey Gnome! Lol.
Right, when I had pet rats there were no exotic vets in my area. I convinced my dogs’ vet to see them because he had experience with rodents from back in the day before vet practice was divided up like it is now. But that vet wasn’t comfortable doing surgery or anything like that. If my rats had needed surgery, the nearest vet was a 3-4 hour drive away. And once we got a single exotic vet, he charged three times what vets in big cities charged because he had no competition. I wish there were more exotic vets and that there were more that specifically specialized in reptiles or birds.
We used to have to drive an hour to see one for my friends rabbits. Thankfully there's now a newer clinic MUCH closer to where she lives. I never wanna have to make that hour long drive with an emergency sick bunny ever again!
I'm fortunate that there is an exotic vet close by. They do normal vet appointments too, but they have specific vet in there just for exotics. They were our go to vet when they were right up the road, but now they're 30 minutes across town without traffic. So we recommend them to everyone, but only go for our exotics
From not loving the sweaters to complaining when someone messes with them... Cheyenne is such a sweetie with a very complex personality! Glad it wasn't anything serious, just love her!x
She's such a good girl! New place, pokes and prods, and needles, oh my. Nothing but just a couple (well deserved) squawks no bites, claws, smacks, she was a total angel.
The panic I felt reading the notification and the reading the description that she's alright. Absolutely unequivocally worried I got. So glad she's alright and its nothing to worry over.
My b&g had a large feather cyst. The vet said it wasn't worth putting her under surgery since it didn't bother her. Like your vet said. My girl eventually popped it herself and she removed most of the impaction and then after talking to my vet I was able to remove the rest and it was perfectly fine. It wasn't bloody or anything and the loose skin shrunk down.
You can tell how much the vet knows about birds by the questions she asks. Always respectful too, you can tell when she asked about the plucking that she didn't come from a place of judgement and knew that it might not be due to ed and Emily
Poor Cheyenne. Naked and lumpy. So glad it wasn't anything too serious. We had a basset hound that the older he got the more cysts he had. Once a year we'd have the vet put him under and get as many as they could in one go before they grew back. His nickname was Mr. Gravy because of how lumpy he got.
That’s such a perfect nickname 😄! My dog often does little barks under his breath, and that combined with the fact that he came from a shelter inspired me to refer to him as my “used subwoofer” ☺️… he’s also a tripod, and his adoption fee was slightly reduced, so I also often joke about how I got the “broken dog discount.” Poor Guy, nobody takes him seriously!
Snake Discovery, I really hope you see this comment, thank you so very much for sharing Cheyanne with us viewers, her representation of plucked birds matters! I have been watching your channel for years now and I want to let you know that I recently rescued a blue and gold macaw who also came from an unhealthy situation and plucked his feathers out too. I fully credit watching Cheyanne for years on this channel for my interest in adopting my boy as when I went to adopt a macaw, I specifically looked for a bird who had their feathers missing because I knew it was only a reflection of the circumstances they came from and nothing about their health or personality. My boy was the longest resident within the rescue I worked with, over 5 years he spent with them, and the rescue believes it is because he's missing most of his feathers. Despite everything he has been through, he has the most amazing personality ever and I can't believe he was overlooked for so many years just because he has some missing feathers. Again, thank you for sharing Cheyanne with us. I genuinely believe watching her over the years made me more interested in adopting a plucked bird as I had comfort in knowledge from seeing Cheyanne over the years. Cheyanne just being Cheyanne helped another bird find a forever home :)
Vets learn really quickly whether to trust the owner to restrain or not. Glad they both trust you that much. Early in my vet tech career, the vet I worked for took an emergency call late one night when she was the only one there. Old guy brings in a cat with an obviously broken tail. As the vet was assessing the overall health of the cat, looking at her gums, old guy gets impatient & grabs the tail shouting "this is where you need to be lookin' doc" Cat climbed right up vet's face & attached herself to the scalp. Then owner tried to "help" by pulling the cat loose! She never saw a pet by herself ever again! Cheyenne was a great patient!
This reminds me of when I had to take my step father's dog to the vet. I was never the one who took the dogs to the vet so he was so perky going to the "post office" until we made a turn. He couldn't see outside but he knew instantly and he was very upset.
She was such a good girl at the vet, I’m surprised how calm she is when you hold her or stretch her wings out. I hope that it doesn’t cause any issues with her health :) EDIT: wow! thanks for all the likes guys ^^
This was adorable. It was definitely time for a Cheyenne video. I definitely do not live a life where I could have a bird- much less a parrot. So I really enjoyed this. She’s so sweet and has amazing caretakers.
I just had my two kitties to the vet yesterday. Besides winter weight, all good! Cheyenne was so cute covering her belly when Ed moved her sweater. She's also so gentle with her beak. You guys have done so good with her.
I have a macaw of my own, but he's nowhere near as old as Cheyenne and I haven't had him for nearly as long as you've had her- only about two and a half years now. Her temperament is incredible and she's such a sweetheart! I'm so glad she has a comfortable, loving and safe home. I hope she lives a lifetime full of happiness and never wants for anything.
My grandmas African grey passed recently and his was such a big staple of my childhood even though he wasn't a very friendly bird. I love seeing how chill and tolerant Cheyenne is. My green cheek is going through his hormonal phase
Hi. This is the first time I’ve seen your videos. You are both so kind and loving with Cheyenne and I’m sure your other animals. You seem like great people.
I about cried when Cheyenne voiced her displeasure at having a sample taken. I've never heard her make a sound like that before, and you know what? I dont like that happening to me either girl.
Poor baby Cheyenne, I'm sorry you had to take her to the vets. I know it's just one of those things you've gotta do when you have pets but it's never nice. I'm glad all is well and I hope you and ed are also well and she didn't scare you to much. Lots of love and take care x
My sympathies, Cheyenne. I get skin cysts all the time and they are annoying and unpleasant. I can't get over how well behaved and sweet she was for the vet. Anybody who looks at her can see she's well loved and living a great life. She's such a beautiful girl. Also kudos to the Vet and that clinic. She was so wonderful and pleasant. When I saw her jacket I finally got why there were a ton of gnomes. Could you guys get the story from her of why the clinic is named that? I'm so curious.
I have a few little ones right now that keep getting inflamed and they are annoying for sure...my mom has lots of cysts and lipomas, so I knew it was coming eventually.
Aww what a sweat baby. Birds are my passion and I’m go glad you guys got that dealt with, I’ve met with this same vet with Doug and it was great! My caique got a blood feather a few weeks ago and sadly it was too thick to me get dealt with but luckily he’s alright now and we’re trying to take him our more and lower stress levels. To give context me and my family is moving so he’s in a very small cage and whilst I’m at school he isn’t getting out enough so luckily we’re fixing that. hoping that will help with the blood feather situations!
I'm glad Cheyenne is okay!! We have a chicken called Gibby who just had a potential feather cyst that had to be surgically removed! We didn't get it tested to see what it was for sure but she had a lump of necrotic tissue around a weird lump that grew under a feather follacle. She's only 4 months old so we had it removed, she survived and is healing well now. Scary times though, birds are infamous for being hard to operate on. Glad Cheyenne didn't need that!!
It feel like yesterday that Cheyenne dislike her sweater and rip them up to be a naked bird. Now she love it because it keep her warm and decent when going out
I remember when we brought my grandma's parrots to the vet, they were super anxious to be anywhere other than home. To combat this, we put them in a shoebox (with breathing holes) and they immediately chilled out. It was bedtime. I always found it hilarious how they instantly went from panic-mode to nap time.
This was a great video thank you, I'm glad your baby is ok. This was amazingly timed as I've been having some medical issues with my little puppy, recently and have been very worried and vetting him too. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, for both.
Aww what a good girl! So glad to hear it’s nothing serious, was worried for a sec!! I have a kitty that gets cysts once in a while and I just put a warm wet(not soaked obv.) washcloth over it for a few minutes and then extract the grossness and they go away…she’s just tries to be too clean and her skin reacts to the constant licking causing them!
Raising cocktails for 30 years I can say I'm a bird person. I've never seen a cyst on a bird before. Hope treatments work for her and no surgery. My best to all and a very Merry Christmas everyone 😘.
I'm just astonished and a little envy how sweet Cheyenne is. We have a pair for years and they're a savage duo all around. One of our girls, Mona Lisa, likes to chase me around! And it is not for kisses and hugs!
I am happy you have a knowlegable vet for both birds and reptiles. I had aheck of a time when i bought a garter/ribbon snake who 2 days later gave birth to 24 babies and i didnt know who to see. Love you videos.
She was so mad 😂 I bet she threw a fit when you guys got home. I’m glad she’s okay! My dog had a pimple on his head and freaked out at first but nope just a pimple haha
10:42 this reminds me so much of our cat Venus. When she was a kitten we got her spayed (as per usual). She apparently had kept messing with her stitches and she got an infection in the surgery area. We took her back to the vet and they cleaned it up and they put in staples as well as stitches. Their recommendation was to put her in a onesie or a sweater (something to guard the site) since she did not tolerate a cone. They also told us to use a warm compress every day. She had the exact same look as Cheyenne does.
Good lord, Cheyenne is such a sweetheart and so tolerant I can't help but love her. I've always been a bit intimidated by large birds because of just how much damage they can do with their beaks. Seeing how well behaved Cheyenne is though, makes me less afraid and understanding that not all birds will be "bitey", it's all in temperament and how they're handled/raised.
Cheyenne pulling her lil sweater back over her exposed tummy just about killed me 😂
I’m so glad she likes her little sweater. I remember when a fan first mailed them to her.
She's so modest
All those years trying to get her to leave them on, now she's not keen to be without (mind you given how cold Winters get around there, I don't blame her wanting a toasty tummy!)
PUT THAT BACK cheyenne: put the sweater back over
I thought you spell Cheyenne like this:Shayan.😭😭
Cheyenne’s little squeak at the cold stethoscope was so relatable
Ikr? You can hear the "AUGH!" From the coldness
She kind of sounded like a duck lol
lOl
WHY IS IT SO COLD
“Btw this will be cold”
“AH IT’S SO COLD!?”
Can I just say how unique this video is?

Cheyenne needs a sweater to match the turtle blanket Emily had at the end!

To combat this, we put them in a shoebox (with breathing holes) and they immediately chilled out. It was bedtime. I always found it hilarious how they instantly went from panic-mode to nap time.
Cheyenne is such a brave girl! Glad she is doing ok!
😢 feel better soon, we love you Chyanne! ❤
I am glad you are so close to a bird vet!
I was a bit worried when I saw the title. I'm so glad your sweet girl is ok!!
I hope to meet you, Cheyenne and Ed soon!!!
It is cute how much she likes her sweaters now. I could see you recommending them to others.
I’m glad she’s okay. Thank you for sharing.
Cheyenne is really so tolerant :o she's such a sweet bird. Glad it's just a cyst and I hope surgery isn't necessary!
Cheyenne was so brave - what a good macaw ❤❤❤
What a sweet girl! So good!
Wishing Cheyenne a quick recovery! Hope you guys have a Merry Christmas as well!
Thank you for putting her diagnosis in the thumbnail. I dislike when people use situations like this for a clickbait opportunity.
She was so mad 😂 I bet she threw a fit when you guys got home. I’m glad she’s okay! My dog had a pimple on his head and freaked out at first but nope just a pimple haha
She’s such a good girl!
I love Cheyenne videos and im so glad she's doing ok!
I have made tuxedos and hoodies for a friends macaw and he looked so friggin awesome loved it cheers Jill Australia 🇦🇺
Good lord, Cheyenne is such a sweetheart and so tolerant I can't help but love her. I've always been a bit intimidated by large birds because of just how much damage they can do with their beaks. Seeing how well behaved Cheyenne is though, makes me less afraid and understanding that not all birds will be "bitey", it's all in temperament and how they're handled/raised.
so glad it's nothing serious!!! Hoping for quick recovery for Cheyenne
Her little chicken screams broke my heart. Glad it isn't serious
