  • When Audrey's first owner passed away, she was so distraught that she pulled out her feathers. One day, the owner's wife met Misha, and Audrey fell in love with him immediately. The owner's wife could see they had a special bond and asked Misha to take Audrey in. As Audrey warmed up to her new parents, they discovered that she LOVES to dance!

      @@thisgame2 I’m white and I love animals and bond with them easily because they are innocent and can all too easily be injured and abused. That said, I was also a teacher of 3 and 4 year olds and a coach for several sports because I feel the same about children. I’m not sure why you say it’s white peoples, I’m from NYC and I promise you I’ve worked with teachers, coaches and animal rescuers of every race,color and creed. Being an empathetic and compassionate human has no color, to me it has to do with my faith in God and Jesus and my inability to purposely hurt any living creature.

      @@TWHowl pet birds can get seriously depressed/stressed when their human isn’t around. There are other animals (wild and domesticated) too that need bonds and attention like this to thrive. Sometimes people can read too much into animal behaviors, but bird depression is real.

    • @OzarkRose
      @OzarkRose 2 года назад +15

      @@TWHowl Actually there have been studies on that. It depends on the animal. Dogs, birds, and donkeys have been observed medically as being capable not only of strongly bonding to people but also able to grieve when they lose a person. Donkeys for example have been proven to develop a closer bond with only one person, and there they will never have the same strength of bond with anyone else. This has been observed with many donkeys, over the course of years. Birds, depending on the variety are capable of developing a strong bond with the handler to the point that as a flock animal they may grieve themselves literally to death. This has also been documented through zoos, and through veterinarians. It’s not just sentimental wishful thinking, but observed and documented reality.

    Audrey understands, that arms are the human equivalent of wings: When Misha waves his arms, she flaps her wings. She's not only mimicking him, it's also anatomically correct. That is amazing.
    It's only a few species, that can pull this off, like apes/monkeys, certain birds and dogs.
    Dogs are such good observers, that they can even bridge the body language gap. They know, that it means something different when you show your teeth than when another dog shows its teeth: If a dog shows teeth, they interpret that correctly as aggression. But if we show teeth, they do recognise it as a smile and don't feel threatened.
    That's all the more amazing, because even our closest relatives - chimps and gorillas - don't know, that a human smile doesn't mean the same as an ape smile. People have been attacked by them, because the ape interpreted their smile as being insolent.
    Dogs and parrots on the other hand aren't just capable of understanding human body language, but other animals' body language as well.
    Even an adult dog, that hasn't grown up with cats, will quickly understand, that purring may sound like growling, but means the opposite. Wagging the tail is usually a good sign for a dog, but cats only do it when they're furious. Vice versa - getting an adult cat to understand dog body language, when it's not used to living with dogs - is much harder, because they're not as skilled at "translating".

      So true. My dog perfectly understands when I am smiling genuinely and when I am not and comes to comfort me. He even knows the difference in the ways we call him. When we call him Sammy, Samcho, Susama, Sami-Salami or even Kuchemun (all nicknames) he would come, wagging his tail, but when we use his full name Samuel- he comes slowly, no tail wagging, ears down and fully knowing he did something bad.

    • @Voodoo_Robot
      @Voodoo_Robot 2 года назад +20

      Good observations. Dogs can also understand hand pointing which even chimps struggle to get. And dogs are able to mimick a smile when they communicate with humans. When apes smile their teeth are covered by lips so you don’t see them. Dog’s smile is full of teeth but you can tell immediately it is not aggression because the body language does not correspond. Ears are erect, eyes have a soft shine, tail wagging and body shape is non threatening. Crows for example show signs of actual culture. That means they communicate information through generations. Which is amazing.

    Now you get to see how magical birds are and they can be like any sentient being - have their moods and be cranky and bit you, but they can also show so much trust and love and be such great companions. Audrey needed a new loving family and no doubt she was starved for love and for every little measure of love you show her, she will show you 10 measures of love back - along with a little crabbiness - like cats. It always amazes me, how much personality is crammed into that little bird brain. Birds are loving like cats and dogs but on a different level and in different ways, it's hard to explain if you have never been a bird owner. I am so happy you are all a nice happy fun family now. I hope Audrey is part of your family for decades - and it's nice the dog is there too - I see so many videos of the birds interacting with cats and dogs - all one big happy family.

I hope she reaches her old age of 150years I unfortunately don’t hold much hope for that with her feather/skin/mite condition. Not much is known about it in Australia because the mites are new to our birds so far nothing can be done to save them. It’s really really sad. Maybe they have more knowledge about the condition there in the US? I pray so. These birds are so awesome and have large vocabularies and hearts.
