I so remember when Justin introduced you to RUclips! Your were shy quite and timid. So love how you have grown into a wonderful story teller. Your content is AWESOME!
I remember also. Lorraine and Jason have grown into the homestead and RUclips lifestyle quite nicely. I am happy for them to have been able to upsize in this short of time. They have worked hard for it and it's well deserved. Blessings to all
I love watching your videos I am 68and my spouse is 83 we raise our food in small areas so wish we had grown our own food 46 years ago when we were able and young but we are still trying
Hi Nancy, I'm a 69 year old Nancy and live in TN. I garden and don't have livestock, yet. I'm thinking turkeys. God bless and keep you and just do what you can and hope you are having a great day.
I am 68 and I can't garden anymore. I used do. I would love to have some land with others helping me have a small garden. I am single. I am BLESSED you have gardens and MARRIED. Thank you JESUS 🀄🀄🀄❤️🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️
Oh this made us smile and even laugh a bit -- it can be confusing when you brood your meat birds and layers together! You know where to find us if you want help identifying them. :)
I can only imagine how thankful you were that you brought your brooder and chicken tractors with you. I'm very excited to see what the new property has in store for your family ❤️
I feel kinda silly, as I start watching your video, I’m aware I have been smiling as I watch Jason try to catch his broilers. I know exactly how hard that is, I know what they smell like( not bad, just a definite fragrance) lol the excitement I would get to move and continually care for their changing needs. Oh boy how I love your videos!
If you have a incubator I want to let you know a little secret put a heat pad under it set it on medium and leave it there the whole time you won't believe the outcome and how good your numbers are with your hatching
I’m so sad that after ordering my chicks in January and finding out they couldn’t be delivered until July only to find out that they couldn’t be promised until next year due to the bird flu was disconcerting . My girls are getting old but still laying fairly well for now. I’m happy y’all got yours
Great video, but I must say, did anyone else notice how still that bird kept its head in the beginning, even while its body was being moved around a bit. HAHA so cool!
I can remember grandma and grandpa would go out and get one or if she knowed company was coming she would go get dinner or supper from the coop. Thank you for sharing ❤
*"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago and the next best time is now"* I consider this to be best motivational quote I've heard in a very long time. But motivational quotes are useless if you don't practice what you preach*
When you were talking about not needing to process all your meat chickens at once it made me think about some friends who raise a few heritage breed pigs. Because they grow slower they just butcher one themselves whenever they are running low on pork.
lol.... not even great-great-grandma. That's how my aunt Lora did it. When we visited she walked out into the yard, considered her options and then picked out a chicken for dinner.
We purchased your chicken processing course a couple weeks ago. We have close to 50 meat birds that are about a month old and will be processing them around June for the first time. Your videos are so comprehensive, thanks so much for that! We feel pretty confident that we can do this come June. We'll keep ya updated!
We have 100 Cornish x in a modified 10x20 portable garage with 20' of gutter for feeder and 20' of PVC with 30 nipples and a 5gal bucket with a float valve for water. We move daily around in our 1/4acre yard. Next weekend we'll test out our new featherman plucker.
You're correct about great grandma raising and butchering her own chickens. She was born in 🇭🇺 in 1884. She had a house in Evanston IL just north of Chicago. Now I doubt the neighbors would be thrilled with chickens let alone butchering them in her backyard. It was a different time in the early 1900's.
Great video Jason and yes I would leave the floors just as they are. Even if they are not perfect is really gives the rooms lots of character. Thanks for all the info on the meet chickens and the link to the processing. Have a wonderful week and God Bless.
The 1st year we did chickens, we did the red rangers. And an assortment of eggs layers. I raised them all in the same coop along w some pekin ducks. They had a large fenced yard to roam during the day. Our problem wasnt hawks, it was bob cats and cougars (we live in the mountains). As they near butcher age, keep an eye on the ranger roosters. A couple had to go early as they had gotten quite large and would attack us whenever we went into their yard to feed or lock them up for the night. They were very agressive towards our daughter especially. On the other hand, I kept 2 of the hens for eggs bc they were so friendly.
Having chickens sure does make it feel like home! Our first batch will be here the first of may and we can’t wait for our new farm to feel more ‘normal’ with them here!
Hey y'all! I've been watching y'all a long time. Just signed up in y'alls member area. We live in Monroe NC and I'm hoping we can do your first hands on chicken butchering this year. I have birds coming this weekend! THX so much for y'alls videos!
Congratulations on your success with your chicken butchering course. I enjoy your content and your family very much, but haven't the need for the course. I DO, however, love to watch your videos and wish you continued success. I cannot wait to see how your home and homestead come along over the coming days, weeks, months and years. All the best, Heather🇨🇦
How well do these chicken tractors hold up to wind? We get winds with 55+ mph gusts where we live and have to think about that before building anything, because sometimes it's most of the week with those kinds of winds especially this time of year with all the storms, but normally closer to 30-45 mph, we live between a bunch of farm fields and there are almost no trees around. We want to do meat chickens and want to do them in a tractor and thought of either this style or the hoop coop style with cattle panels. Might have to run them with our layers though instead, they have a big coop and a 100x100 fenced in yard, I just don't know how to feed everyone if they are all running together.
Your wife and you are great teachers. I love LISTENING to you SHARE FROM SE MICHIGAN 🀄🀄🀄🛐❤️❤️🌹❤️❤️🌹💯. I am so THANKFUL you have 14 plus acres. Your daughter is a very special young LADY. LOVE, JESUS.
It blows my mind that chicks can be mailed lol they’re so cute !! I hope to have chickens some day but the idea is super intimidating to me 😬 hopefully I’ll be brave enough one day lol
I like watching so many homesteading chanels and I think yours is great. Can't wait to see how your new property develops! My only problem with USA chanels is I get triggered all the time by the way you use the word 'chicken'! In the UK chicken is to hen as beef is to cow! ...I know I probably have OCD!
So what happens if your freezers or power goes off? Would you loose all your food? We have small group of ducks and hens for eggs. I do know how to process chickens and ducks. I do much canning in fear of loosing what I do have.
I recently learned you aren't supposed to do Cornish crosses over 5000 ft in elevation. What kind of meat bird can you do that still grows big and meaty over 5000 ft? Anybody know?
Question. Is it okay to have your rooster's with your egg layers? Are you able to eat fertilized eggs? I just got my first set of Golden Comets and was curious since I've never raised any.
Fertilized eggs are no different than unfertilized when it comes to eating. Our two roosters mate with our whole flock and the eggs look no different from before the roosters. The roosters will most likely protect the hens and or mount them (causing them to possibly loose feathers from their backs) if you don't mind all that and the crowing you should be fine
Yes I let them go 3 months and had 25 pound birds they were oven stuffing roasters. They got so big their legs were breaking. I did a 100 the first time ever never again will i kill so many at once we were cleaning birds for 2 days
The size of the meat chickens is crazy. Especially because the Australops are already two purpose chickens. Nevertheless, I better like the two purpose chickens. On the one hand you can hatcher them on your own and on the other hand I don't like such industrial chickens. Of course, it's not their fault.
I made a HUGE mistake last year raising my Cornish cross meat birds and my egg layers. I ordered some white jersey giants and I didn’t pay attention to our helpers on butcher day and they ended up butchering most of my white jersey giants with the meat birds. From now on I will only order black jersey giants.
I so remember when Justin introduced you to RUclips! Your were shy quite and timid. So love how you have grown into a wonderful story teller. Your content is AWESOME!

Nancy, I understand, I’m 65 and my husband is 69. We have chickens and do a lot of gardening. We do the best we can. ♥️
Nacy, good for you! You are never to old!
Quail and rabbits are managable for seniors.

It must feel more like home now that you have new chicks on the farm. Now you have beef, pork and chickens growing on pasture. 👍👍
Those pigs are so sweet acting! All your animals are always happy. They are a joy to watch. peace ✌
We did a hands on workshop last year, it was awesome!
Heck yeah!
So proud for what y’all have achieved. So excited to watch as everything changes.
God Bless!

LOVE watching the development of your new homestead. You are doing a great job.
I have two geese and I stopped loosing birds (chickens) completely!
Can really see the influence that Polyface Farm has had on so many channels, spread the vision, its a good one! TY
If you have a incubator I want to let you know a little secret put a heat pad under it set it on medium and leave it there the whole time you won't believe the outcome and how good your numbers are with your hatching
your sure on your way to making this land your own congrats

Great Video! Thanks! We just ordered 26 of the Murrays Big Red Broilers. Looking forward!
lol.... not even great-great-grandma. That's how my aunt Lora did it. When we visited she walked out into the yard, considered her options and then picked out a chicken for dinner.
awesome!
That's the way my Momma done it. When I was younger at home.

You should get a guardian goose with the hens incase of hawks or so.
coming soon!
Having chickens sure does make it feel like home! Our first batch will be here the first of may and we can’t wait for our new farm to feel more ‘normal’ with them here!
Always great to see a video from you. Your chicks are looking good. The beef bros seem quite calm around you. 💖
Loved this and please show us inside the house updates!
Freddy looks like a mighty fine rooster.
So glad that Bernice came with you 😉
Always exciting!
Yes, grandmas used to do it that way. My grandmother would go into her coup and grab two chickens on Saturday for a Sunday dinner with guests.
Fun!
Always good to find your videos, looking forward to see what ya'll do with property. Be blessed.
All the way from south africa 🇿🇦 👏 love you content I've been here since day one

Hey Guys! It’s awesome to watch you in your new land! 1 question... what are the dimensions of your mobile big shelter?
Thanks for another great video Jason, we are signing up for your chicken processing class now. I hope we're not too late to get two spots.
Nice video Jason. Thanks. Chicken, chicken, which type of chicken? I think you got them sorted right.
I am glad to have found you and I subbed
Thanks for subbing

Jason do you have a video on how to make this waterer? I looked a while ago and couldn't find one.
They all look great.
New Bernice! 💕
Your wife and you are great teachers. I love LISTENING to you SHARE FROM SE MICHIGAN 🀄🀄🀄🛐❤️❤️🌹❤️❤️🌹💯. I am so THANKFUL you have 14 plus acres. Your daughter is a very special young LADY.
LOVE, JESUS.
Do you mix your own chicken feed? Also, did you make your chicken tractor? Didn’t see plans in Etsy shop. Thank you for all your knowledge.
How do I find your membership?

Hey Bernice2 🥰
Do the meat chickens reproduce okay or are they like a Cornish cross where they just aren't feasible being older without issues?
It blows my mind that chicks can be mailed lol they’re so cute !! I hope to have chickens some day but the idea is super intimidating to me 😬 hopefully I’ll be brave enough one day lol
Trust me, you can do it.
Will you be getting rabbits? The rabbit manure is VERY Good for plants.

How I can order broilers?
Hey Berniece
I grew up on a farm and we had fresh chicken all the time and I know how to butcher a chicken
Do you still have that "leftover" meat bird in with the egg layers? May be silly question, but she lay eggs?
That Australorp you showed us is probably a rooster
If you order cronish crosses you can tell the difference of those meat birds.they would be twice the size by now
frankenchickens
Yes I let them go 3 months and had 25 pound birds they were oven stuffing roasters. They got so big their legs were breaking. I did a 100 the first time ever never again will i kill so many at once we were cleaning birds for 2 days

Yo Chickies poop poop pee Doo the sow the land needs you🐤🐣🐤🐣🐤🐣🐤🐣🐥
Your land depends on them. They depend on you.
Hay there's a little chicken in with the big ones and the big ones are stomping all over it! Just sayin LOL...
There is one little meat chicken getting picked on, it’s so small.
heya love to see the meat chickens there are growing fast
What are you going to do? They can't all be called Bernice. Or can they?
Only Australorps are bernice
Chickens for everyone😃
❤️
That is how my grandma did it. They killed one chicken at a time as they ate it.
I want chickens😭😭😭I am sure my neighbors wouldn't like it though.
I made a HUGE mistake last year raising my Cornish cross meat birds and my egg layers. Not a criticism. Did anyone notice how much those meat chickens grew between the start and end of the video?
❤️❤️❤️
Did you say in other video holler homestead is your neighbours
