Love, Thoughts and Prayers to the beautiful people of Hawaii XX
Looks very good, from Oregon
I'm in OR too, there is a local to me restaurant that does a good Loco Moco.
I’ve only been to Hawaii twice. I’ve never heard of this dish, but it does look good.
My heart goes out to the people of Lahaina, as well. It was a beautiful town on the beautiful island of Maui. As we say in Illinois after a disaster, Lahaina Strong. Bless you!
Mr Churchill once thanked the American People for inventing and supplying GB with SPAM during the conflict... he also said "Did you have to send so G-D much of it..!?!??" 😋😁😂
In 1937 Hormel made the first batch of Spam. In 2024 they plan to make a second batch. 😂

Hence the Monty Python sketch!
Love to our fellow Americans in Hawaii. ❤
Sorry all the citizens of Hawaii are Americans.
@@rayfujimori9833 I agree with you, but I don't think their comment was meant to imply otherwise.
@@aaronboxwrath1619 you'd be surprised at how many people who visited from the mainland (48 states) think only whites are US citizens, think we're some third world country or looking for our grass shacks.
Sending love and prayers to the people of Hawaii ♥️ 🇬🇧 ❤ 🇺🇸

You should try the Loco Moco Burger. I haven’t had it. But, some friends of mine went to Hawaii a couple of years ago and said it was absolutely amazing, just delicious!
At 4:46, the gravy is too thick. Way too thick. Add more beef stock. Maybe just a touch of water so that it’s not overly salty. You want the gravy. All gravy to be a little on the runny side so that it flows as what you would expect gravy to flow as what you would expect with any other dish. I can here chef Ramsay yelling already 😮😵💫 lol
Btw, “Little H” is absolutely adorable! Her interactions are priceless! 😍
Funny: I thought the gravy was perfect! I love really thick gravy!
If Alana likes it then we know it is good food. She gave that dish her approval.
Thanks to you, Baby H is going to have the most well-developed taste buds of any child in the UK ! It is wonderful that you are exposing her to so many different flavors and foods !
Much love to the people of Maui 😘🫶
Thank you SOOO much for making this dish. It is one of my favorite dishes and just good comfort food. Glad to see you both enjoy it! The gravy is usually darker and runnier, but I have seen it on the lighter side as well. It’s just one of those things that people will make it to their preference. Much love to Hawai'i at the moment!!! ❤❤❤
We'll definitely have it again so will work on the gravy. Thanks for thr tips Kam. Love to Hawaii
It's a very sad time for the residents of Lahaina, Hawaii after fires destroyed their beautiful area. My heart goes out to all of Hawaii. May God bless them during this time. ❤
❤️
Unfortunately the fires here and in Canada have been Majority Arson but they won't say it on mainstream. They want to say global warming is why the Arson isn't mentioned. When there's a disaster I look behind for an Agenda these days unfortunately.
Eeee yeah, I appreciate that they're doing something Hawaiian but I'm not on board with the usual upbeat attitude. Imagine if your town and every resident's home in it were destroyed to nothing but ash. Where would you go? Where do you even begin? If you have a business there then you would have lost your home and your business and possibly loved ones as well. 🥺 I dunno, I love the H's but I could see a little more empathy being used here. Aloha Lahaina. ❤😢
@@SA-hf3fu I get that. This may have been filmed befor the fire. Editing, toddler care, prepping for trip to US, daily duties. They have a lot of balls in the air so its no suprise if 1 got dropped. Nobody is perfect but they are good people so I'm gonna give them a pass on this one.
🙏❤😥Hawaii.
@@SA-hf3fu I don't know, perspectives on things vary. My grandfather had advice when faced with terrible times, "Walk towards the smile, it will fuel your soul, and strengthen your heart in healing". People deal with things differently, I think in bad times, and completely aware of how awful things are, I'd prefer these 3 in my orbit, brightsiding and loving and making me smile. They were absolutely not disrespectful, demeaning, nor un-empathic. They even have a donation fundraiser link in the comments posted 3 days before this aired.🧡🧡🧡
Sending Great Love to all our fellow Americans in Maui Hawaii. Praying the fires stop. Sad for all the loss the fire has done. Beautiful dress Mrs H. ❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy both Mr. & Mrs. H, but I Love Baby H!!
I love Mr H but Elana melts me. Mrs H
I love the family dynamic! Baby H is definitely Daddy's Little Girl!!
Hello @Mrhandfriends I am Hawaiian and wanted to say thank you for the prayers for what happened on Maui, and for the prayers for those who have been lost! You guys did a great job at making the loco-moco! It is a dish that you can get any time during the day from many restaurants that serve it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!
Hawaiian food is more of a comfort food style, similar to southern cooking! Hawaiian food is heavily influenced by the U.S. and asian cuisines, their are different ways to make loco-moco and another version to try is “Chili-moco”! It is rice, chili, cheese, onions, hamburger, and an over-easy egg/fried egg!
Thank you very much! Great vid! 🤙🏽
That is funny, cuz here in St. Louis there is a well known diner dish called a “Slinger” that is exactly like your “chili-moco” except instead of rice it is served on hash browned potatoes.
It looks lovely. The version of loco moco using a thick slice of Spam instead of a burger is my favorite. You can top the loco moco with chopped spring onions, sauteed mushrooms and hot sauce. I don't think cheese would be needed, but I'm sure it would taste good!
French fries instead of rice and it’s called a jitterbug
So excited! I lived on Oahu for 6 years and Loco Moco is one of my favorites.
Rice, gravy, burger, onions, egg...I like 'em all. I think I'll be making this sometime next week. Nice to see a state like Hawaii get some recognition for their food. Awful to see all the news happening there. Absolutely heartbreaking.
Yeah, that looked so good. Everything in the Loco Moco I love to eat. I love everything y'all do, but Cooking with H is one of best things y'all do. :)
Never had that here in the US but am willing to try. Looks messy and yummy... all the things I love!
That looks fantastic. Hello from Iowa. Great video, guys 👍 Good luck to the people of Maui, thoughts, and prayers to you all.🙏🙏
Love this, poke, poi on pork, shaved ice, give me all of the foods from Hawai'i. And my heart goes out to the Maui, HI residents and the lives that are lost. I have been to Lahaina (west) and east Maui to Haleakala crater. The hotel I stayed at that was in the historic part is now ash, the park that had the great Banyan Tree is gone. All of those things have been here since before all of us.
I know. Saw it on the news and it looks awful. Sending love too.
Missouri in the house. prayers for Maui.
I❤how they are willing to try new foods.
Prayers for the people 🙏 of Hawaii, ❤,glad you are trying out new and different recipes.
Please give if you can to the people of Hawaii.
What unknown ominous pertinent timing this was for a Hawaii themed video. My heart goes out to all my fellow citizens there😢
I LOVE Loco Moco! Went to Kauai last year and had it for breakfast almost every morning. It keeps you going all day and it's a simple, but delicious comfort food. I hope one day the H family will visit the Hawaiian Islands - they are magical and you all would love it there!
Been there years ago and must agree!! I saw several islands in one trip and appreciated the personality and culture each one had to offer.
@@MegaMagicdog I love the culture there: the language, music, food, laid back vibe... it's a place everyone should visit at least once in their lives. I've been there twice (Oahu and Kauai), and maybe one day I'll get back for a third visit to a different island.
@@catherinelw9365 Sadly, much of Maui's tourism has been destroyed by the fire. Lahaina will never recover from this. I do think the Big Island would be a great choice to check out - saw a lot of cool things.
Oops! I forgot to name the state... Missouri.
I LOVE really thick gravy; the thicker, the better! Runny gravy is boring❣️
I grew up poor. When I think Hawaii I think spam. We had canned meat so much. We had it with people on the res. The reservation. Native Americans.
Hello from Washington State
You did a great job but that is definitely not my kind of food. I'll take the burger with the onions and the gravy but not interested in the rice or the egg. It's a weird combination of food. 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🙏🏻🥀
We would like to see Mr H cook more. Give mama H a break!
I've had him busy today so keep an eye out for upcoming videos
I think he's afraid of the kitchen.
A year late, but if anyone comes across this, here's some tips:
1.) Don't push the onions into the burgers.
2.) Make the burgers into patties first. Don't make them like smash burgers.
3.) After the burgers are done, use that pan to make the gravy to pick up the frond from the burgers.
4) Use the onions in making the gravy. Add sliced mushrooms as well.
5) Proper gravy includes a squirt of ketchup, and should be slightly more runny than in the video (1/2 cup more beef stock). A very Hawaiian cheat is to add Lipton Onion and Mushroom soup mix to the beef stock to concentrate the flavors.
Wow, great job ,Mrs. H. Even if you don't know your own strength. 😁 I'd pass on the egg part, but the rest is something I'd devour.
It's just awful about the fires on Maui. I've visited there twice, and remember the amazing baobab tree in Lahaina. We went up to Halakalaa on both trips, too. I look at the photos of the baobab tree park, and it and the streets around are completely unrecognizable.
During World War II is when Spam was introduced to Hawaii. it was a major part of military rations. During that time it became so integrated into their society it is one of their staple foods today.
I like fried Spam with Mac and Cheese with green/string beans on the side.
Mrs. H, I'm sure many of your patrons have advised this, but I want to support their suggestions: I see you have a meat tenderizing hammer in your kitchen kit. You can use that, or just about anything else strong, to press the spatula down, rather than using your wrist and bending the arm of the spatula! Hold the spatula firmly over the meat ball, then use the hammer to just press down! Easy-peasy! No more bent spatula! Love you all! 👶
Ahh that's Jon. I will try that next time rather than the spatula. Mrs H 💕
I got married on the beach on Kauai. We had Loco Moco for breakfast every day. I make a dish very similiar, rice, gravy, fried egg, but sometimes with hamburger, sometimes with a breaded pork cutlet. My kids love it.
With the pork cutlet, you made what we call tonkatsu loco. And if you ypu do that with crispy bread chicken, it's Katsu Loco! So many variations😊🌸
I am one of those crazy idiots that like Spam©. I grew up eating Spam© burgers. Two slices of bread. Some mayo on both pieces. Some iceberg lettuce, tomato slices on the bottom. Grill a sliced piece of Spam© to go on top. So basically a BLT just substituting the bacon for Spam©.
My love for Spam© may be a result of watching Monty Python's Flying Circus who did a skit on Spam©. But my dad was the one who showed me how to make a quick meal. 😊
You can now buy a slice of Spam© in a metallic foil pouch as a "single" in either the classic or Spam© lite which has less sodium. That way you don't have to waste the leftover Spam© you hadn't got around to yet. 😊
I am from California so ... Never had Loco Moco.
Hello guys, Mrs.H the Hawaiian loco moco meal looks so delicious. I think I’ll go and make a burger with gravy, Mr.H devoured his so fast and got another one only rated it a eight😳😮the way he ate that looks more like a ten to me😊. My baby👧🏼 H never fails me, she’s lovin that dish also, the girl knows good food. Shouting out from Maryland! 🇺🇸🫶🏽✌🏽👋🏽
Sending prayers to the people in Hawaii. Cooking with H is my favorite part of your channel. My husband loved Monty Python and when I wanted him to try something new, I'd say "it's not got much spam in it" and it became a family joke.
LOVE loco moco! I am from Washington State, but my sister-in-law's family (Ohana) is from Lahaina on Maui. They lost everything in the fires, but they are all OK. Thank you so much for your care and concern for the people of Maui!
We are glad they are ok, but sorry that they have lost so much. Sending love.
Gravy looka a good consistency, gravy in America is much thicker then in the uk. Y'all did good
That is a false statement. I am a professional chef for over 40 years, and there are over 100 different kinds of gravy's in the United States, and some of them are very thin. Gravy should not be too thick.
@@jeffhampton2767 I live in the south all the gravy's ive been taught to make are thick. I'm not stating that all gravy's are thick. But brown gravy I make is thick like that. I'm sorry if I offend you by generalizing us gravy
@@megandrehr3420 I live in the Northeast and we do not make our gravy's very thick and we do not make white sausage gravy. I would say that the Northeast United States like New York, Philadelphia and Boston are the most similar to Europe as far as our cooking is concerned.
@@megandrehr3420 I'm not offended at all. I simply have a lot of experience in fine dining restaurants. I specialize in French food, Northern Italian food, German food, British food, American food and others. Most gravy should be silky and flow over the food onto the plate. I make high-quality gravy's that compliment gourmet dishes. We simply come from two different worlds. Many parts of the Northeast are just completely different than the South. There are 50 states and everybody is use to something different.
@@jeffhampton2767 I lived in Jersey for a few years it's a totally different world then tx. Down here we don't really worry about fat content or what's the healthier option it's about if it taste good lol. But the north east is much different also french cooking is different down here too because we have a lot of Cajun influence here. That's what makes the states great because we are such a diverse melting pot of cuisine
This is appalachia food 💯
I call Worcestershire sauce: Roy's Sister Sheree sauce.
Hi from Indiana! I love fried spam on white bread!
Lived in Hawaii for 6 years and ate loco moco weekly!
I love Loco moco. I made it before. It's not crazy boogers. 😂
Thoughts and prayers for Hawaii. Only state that is younger than me. By about 3 months.
❤️
Love and prayers from South Carolina for the people of Hawaii
❤️
California, USA
gravy varies from restaurant to restaurant in every state, so it's however you like it really
we use tallow and duck fat but we have to go to specialty stores to get it
Amazing job! As a SoCal resident I eat it once a month. The gravy was indeed a bit thick. It should be more like brown gravy over mash potatoes than a thick sausage gravy. Either way. Same flavors. I use jasmine rice add extra flavor. Great video!
As for spam. Do same thing you did here. Jasmine rice. Spam thin sliced, cooked till brown in its own meat. Don’t add butter or oil. (Like bacon). Fry up the eggs in the spam grease like you did here and place all over white rice. Sometimes I use a mustard on the side and/or SRIRACHA sauce. Perfect
I've seen it done both ways, (thicker/thinner and lighter like they did, or darker... even in between...)
Great job Mrs. H. ( as usual) !! Haven’t been to Maui in years, but we always stayed on the West side . Prayers for everyone there !!
The start of the brown gravy you made here is called a roux and is equal parts fat and flour. Roux can be done one of 2 ways: 1) blonde roux is cooked for 3-5 minutes on medium heat in a saucepan while keeping in motion (the goal is to cook the flour so the end gravy doesn't taste of raw flour). 2) dark roux is cooked for 45+ minutes on a medium heat and becomes dark like chocolate sauce and full of deep dark flavors. Blonde roux is good for thickening things like gravy, cheese sauce and bechamel while dark roux is used in dishes like gumbo, jambalaya, dirty rice and other Cajun style dishes. Bechamel is one of the French mother sauces and is the base for a good creamy cheese sauce (like a mornay).
Looks amazing. Good job!
I lived in Hawaii as a child for 3 year....such a beautiful place it is sad what happened there...prayers to all.....
I live in Texas and enjoy your time in Texas...
Grew up eating sliced and pan fried spam. Love it. Love from Upstate South Carolina.
I went to University in Honolulu. This and Spam Musubi are Hawaiian staples.
I was born and raised in Hawaii. I'll say this about the gravy. It's better to be a little thick then two runny. Loco moco is an amazing hangover food. Lol
Hangover food? Interesting. For my dad, it was White Castle!
Spam is its own food group in many pacific basin countries and islands where the US Army and Navy have been based.
Spam is a way of life in Hawaii. Spam eggs and rice is a regular breakfast plate. Along with Spam Musubi. Also know as the Hawaiian sandwhich. Very ono! Or yummy in English 🤙😜. One cool thing a lot of Britts don’t realize is our relationship our royal family had with The British Royal family. Pretty interesting history there and the reason why the Union Jack is on our state flag. Anyways aloha from our ohana to yours.
Needs sticky rice. That rice separates into individual grains too easily.
Spam is popular in Hawaii for the same reason it's popular in a lot of places: it's a decent "ham" substitute that stores perfectly forever and ever, and was easy to ship all over the world during WWII. So a lot of places that depended on the US for shipping supplies during WWII or who were in some way dependent after, incorporated it into their own cuisines, with varying degrees of enthusiasm and creativity. I kind of like Spam, but it's not "the same" as ham. You sort of have to like it for itself. IMO Hawaii has done particularly well at including it in their own cuisine. My personal favorite is Spam musubu...but loco moco isn't bad.
Prayers and Support sent to Hawai'i in this crisis.
It's a long flight from the UK to Hawaii, but it would be worth it for you and Family to visit my Homeland! It is "America", but not quite. If you do visit, reach out to your subscribers that live in Hawaii and those from there. We can get you guys deals and experiences that you can't using a travel service. Unfortunately I don't live there anymore and haven't since 2006. But almost all of my Mom's Family is still there and I do have some connections, though they are limited as time has gone on.
Mmm your baby is so cute!! Just wanna eat her up with a spoon, as my grandmother would say!! lol I’m from Tennessee and Mrs H would like Nashville hot chicken probably, since she likes spicy food!
My grandmother's friend said the same thing to my brother when he was a baby and it terrified him as he thought she was literally going to eat him LOL. Mrs H 💕
The gravy does look slightly thick, but egg doneness and gravy thickness can be to taste. The rice looks -- well normally it would be a shorter grain sticky rice, like what you would use to make sushi, but plain (without adding the vinegar flavoring mixture).
I’m surprised no one mentioned Loco Moco is a breakfast dish (that is perfectly delicious at lunch and dinner too). I think it’s a great hangover cure after a night of drinking.
The name of this dish hits a little different, at least here in south Texas.
In Spanish it means crazy snot or crazy booger.
From what I understand there are a good amount of folks from Mexican heritage in Hawaii as they moved over there to be vaqueros or cowboys when Hawaii started raising more cattle vs pork.
I wonder if this is what it means to Hawaiians.
I would add a Macaroni salad as a side which would make the entire thing a plate lunch. Basically the lunch that keeps working people going through the day. It’s what school kids and workers eat pretty much everyday. A standard plate lunch is some type of protein, white rice, and macaroni salad. Quick and filling.
Never heard of a 12"salad scoop, maybe it's a Hawaiian thing
I have never heard of this but man, it looks so good. Make the eggs a little more runny and yum. One thing that’s funny is you raving about it and then giving it a 8.5. Like a B+. I figured it would be an A from you guys. Hahaha.
I live in Washington state near Seattle, and there are restaurants here with food from all over the world. I've had Hawaiian food in restaurants, but I haven't made it myself. It's good comfort food.
Great job Mrs. H - gravy can be whatever consistency you prefer. Sending love & prayers for healing to all of those in Maui ♥
I seem to remember there being some macaroni salad on the Loco Moco plate lunch. The creamy macaroni salad goes well with the sticky rice. You guys did a great job.
My comfort breakfast is rice with fried egg and spam with a little bit of ketchup
The cutaways to your daughter are great. She’s a little character, so cute, and the perfect mix of both of you.
Hi from the first state
As a Hawaiian living in Germany I make this a lot for me and my German friends. I like to fry spam and put it on an English muffin with egg and cheese like an egg mcmuffin.
Love, respect and prayers from Kansas for the people of Hawaii. I pray that you shall recover quickly and completely.
For a little color, I like to dice a scallion and sprinkle it on top of everything. Otherwise the loco moco is a lot of white and brown!
This is always the first thing i eat whenever i return home to hawaii from being away for an extended amount of time!!!!!
Spam is also great when it’s grilled outside, or you can even smoke it on your smoker\
I felt it should have been thinner but it looked like the gravy was supposed to be under the burger
I love fried Spam. It's the only way I'll eat it, though.
In the south we eat a lot of hamburger steak and gravy over rice with a vege or salad.
Spam wrapped in rice and wrapped with nori [green seaweed paper] please!
Next time try using a coffee cup bottom or the top of your meat mallot to press ..
You need an outdoor grill spatula or at least have to move your hand lower
I believe that the Texas State Fair is late Sept to mid Oct.
Hello from OH, H's.
IO
12:57 *_YAY!!_* Lowercase H gets a bite!
Hey can you guys come here to Hawaii next year???
🤞🏻
@Mrhandfriends our food here in Hawaii is 75% Japanese and then the rest is Mainland American but we all speak fluent English
I am from Arizona and have never seen that dish but it looks pretty good. Here in Arizona we have some of the best Mexican food. Although the green chili from New Mexico is the best.
When you are in Texas you should definitely check out Medieval Times restaurant theater
I'm from Illinois, but I've been to Hawaii, as well as the other 48.
It's great that you're making some Hawaiian food, in view of the terrible fire that took place recently in Lahaina (la-HIGH-nah).
Re. Spam, it was introduced to HI during WW2 by the servicemen, and was an instant hit.
Hawaiian food *favorite
Spelt it the U.K. way - will change it :)
I lived in Hawaii from 3yrs old to 6 yrs old when my dad was stationed over there.
I ate this a lot, but normally with fried Spam. Mom always made extra rice whenever she cooked it, to have it ready for many meals. And with always having rice ready, the rest of the meal was fast and easy to cook.
Note - Hawaii is the state with the highest Spam consumption per person of all the US states.
Note - McDonald's in Hawaii, for breakfast, serves rice with Spam and eggs. Many restaurants and food trucks there serve Loco Moco in Hawaii 😋 YUM !
