I live in Ohio (right next to Indiana!) -- and I live in Canal Winchester, OH - where there was a restaurant called The Wigwam - owned by Evelyn Barnett! She was a dear friend our family . . and she was known for her cream and sugar pie . . . honestly NO ONE could make cream and sugar pie like she did - (there is a bit of a knack to it) - her would have a crusty bubble or two on top and when you took your fork for that bite cream would run out . . I haven't had C&S Pie like that since.... People came from all over for her C&S pie! I miss her and her pie!!
    MEANS "LISTEN TO HIM" !!!
I'm chuckling because you are stirring and stirring and your stove isn't on . . . Opps!
Ya, I make my pie totally different.... I don't pre-bake the crust - and the cream, sugar butter etc., is lightly stirred and poured into the pie - then baked... Is not hard custard..but a creamy soft custard with spots of cream running out . .

You guys are so cute! Your sweet and lovely family is a joy and the fact you guys are foodies too!! Win win for us!! I have never made this pie either. I'm so proud of you guys baking these pies, too. Baking is much harder than cooking in my view. It's more precise and it just is more complex especially pies and crust and all. I had a chef friend who told me to take stuff out of oven before you think it's done as it will continue to cook! I used to burn muffins, cookies, pie crust! He was right. It works!! Same with meat or anything on BBQ! Take it out cover the meat loosely with foil. Anyway, just a tidbit that works for me! So I told my 15 yr granddaughter a few days ago after she burned the bottoms of the rolls on her first attempt at canned cinnamon rolls to use the method of taking out earlier they will still be ok. She was so upset. We ate them anyway because she made them! I told her how many I have burned too over the years! Bravo and your pie looks amazing!!. All the food you do is amazing! I'm going by your reviews to decide if I will try! I loved your Texas BBQ and Tex Mex videos. I used to live in Houston, Texas in early 80s and remember it fondly!! Yes, I'm old LOL! ! 😂 I actually know who Cilla Black is. I was watching a true crime story about a killer who appeared on the American version called the dating game. The guy who was reading it was English and went on for 5 minutes about Cilla Black because he thought that was her name but wasn't sure and eventually looked it up. He completely set aside the story because of Cilla 😂

i dont make pie crust anymore either. why should i? we can buy rolled pastry shell also, also frozen pie shell (you usually get two in a pack and they are not the shallow ones) or you can buy the prebaked ones (usually a cookie crumb one, which is shallow).. pillsbury makes the rolled one, you get two in the bos, but they are both rolled inside the box..

You're right that the Pillsbury crusts are good and they're easy... and round like the pie plate! I don't understand why the UK would make their frozen pie crusts rectangular?!! 🥧

FYI, "Hoosier" is pronounced HOO-zher. Rhymes with "New fur", and the second syllable is the same as in "measure". No reason you should have known that...

Thank you for this. As a native Hoosier, my grandmother used to make Sugar Cream Pie and then taught my mom who continued the tradition when Grammy was gone. My sister and her husband and I all moved to South Carolina about 11 years ago and Sugar Cream Pie was sorely missed. Finally, our parents moved do our corner of South Carolina in May of 2022 and that Thanksgiving my mom made Sugar Cream Pie. It was so wonderful to experience such a "tangible" memory. Thank you again!

Ask your mom to teach you how to make it. Then you can hand down the tradition in your family every thanksgiving.
