- Tom Selleck won an Emmy for his portrayal of Thomas Magnum, a charming private detective who lives in Hawaii on the estate of an absentee millionaire. Though a bit of a rascal, Magnum investigates his cases with skill, deftly moving about an island that is luxurious, exotic, and sometimes dangerous. Successfully blending doses of action, mystery, irreverent comedy, and poignant drama, this series became one of the biggest hits in television history and afforded Selleck and his characterization iconic status.

Can't say how badly I miss these guys!
Angry Higgins was always one of my favorite parts of the show.
The reboot doesn't even compare.. They dropped the ball in so many ways. The original is classic!!👍 Well written.. Unique... Do many firsts in a prime time TV show
Tom selleck's magnum pi was the original series and the best .

What did the turkey really get? 07:50
I dont get it. At the end, How did Magnum get thru the secure screening area to make the switch before anyone else if there were only 2 screening booths and TC and Rick were at #1 and #2 booth?
As I believe, security checks were optional in the 80s...
Actually, airport security checks have ALWAYS been mandatory since 1969, but they were handled by the airports and private contractors instead of the federal government, and they didn’t take anywhere near as long as they do nowadays-they basically just had you walk through a metal detector while your luggage and carry-on items ran on a conveyer belt through an x-ray machine, and that was all. Also, in those days, you were still allowed (after going through the pre-9/11 security checkpoints) to browse all the shops and do whatever you wanted-you could even walk right up to the gates to see off your friends and relatives on their flight. My family used to do this all the time when we saw our relatives off on their departing flights, for example. THAT is why Magnum and his friends were able to do what they did: Magnum went through first, and TC and Rick distracted the thief while Magnum switched the rolls on the conveyor belt. Nowadays they typically don’t allow people past the security checkpoints unless they have tickets for a flight, so you can’t see your relatives off at the gate anymore, and you have to say goodbye to them at the security checkpoint.
