Pop Spring is an excellent introduction to their originals, plus the Evo of MJ is top notch. Not to mention the fact it is all live with great sound, sadly not always the case in some “live” videos….
FYI -- Pentatonix does not have "a" Christmas album. They have put out a Christmas album every year since 2012, although some of those years they just issued a "deluxe" version of the previous year's album with some extra tracks, and 2019 was a "Best of" compilation with some new tracks included. So it's 10 releases -- 1 EP, 5 full albums, 3 deluxe versions and one "Best of". And not all songs are strictly Christmas songs; they also include songs with religious connotations and songs about family and friends. There are covers of traditional Christmas carols, pop holiday songs and some originals, but they all have that Pentatonix touch you were talking about, retaining the flavor of the original but adding creative arrangements to make even the most over-played Christmas carol sound new.
Lol, I avoided listening to O Come All Ye Faithful because I had heard they put their “twist” on it…just proves that you should listen before you judge🤣
Now I can’t listen to the old standard (which I love) without thinking of PTX!!!
Most times getting my phone out and hearing KO’s unique PTX version before I can get it outta my head….
Yes- their originals are all 🔥. For 🤯 beatboxing watch Love Again (original). For more Mitch rapping watch Superfruit’s cover of Feeling Myself (Superfruit is a side project of Scott and Mitch). Superfruit is another excellent rabbit hole!!
I agree with your recommendations above, for more subtle but complex beat boxing I think Little Drummer Boy and Valentine show of some neat skills/variety of Kevin (in addition to the rest)

There is a live version of this that they did for a Dutch radio station on the 2014 European tour. Sounds EXACTLY the same! Did you catch Mitch changing "Iggy, Iggy. . ." to "MItchie, Mitchie"? "Love Again" is an original that Kevin and Avi wrote, featuring some pretty remarkable beatboxing, a rather frightening Avi, and crazy costuming and make-up. You'll probably feel a little stunned, and not sure if you liked it or not. So, you'll have to listen again. . .

It was announced yesterday. Mitch and Kirstie shared it on their Instagram stories.
When you said, you would be singing everywhere, including ordering coffee, I laughed. There is a get to know them type video, it shows Scott with backup from Avi, ordering coffee, singing his order. If you want to hear a cool Christmas song, Do O Come All Ye Faithful, I can't tell you why it would spoil the surprise, just do it, you won't be disappointed.

Yeah their spicy additions still come off organic in unison with the covered track. They are amazing.
I think this was only my second time seeing this video and I forgot just how much I like it. Mitch also raps on their upgrade of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's can't hold us. They also have a video for thrift shop. Pentatonix does not do covers. They do upgrades. Scott, the tall blonde, and Mitch had a side project called Superfruit. They have a video which I'm pretty sure is a cover of Nicki Minaj and beyonce's feeling myself. Mitch does the rapping on That also. On any Superfruit video after they put up Subscribe they always have bloopers. Their Video new rules x Are you that somebody has some really great Beatboxing between Matt and Kevin at the beginning. Pentatonix pretty much owns Xmas When it comes to Christmas albums. One video That people react to Throughout the year is Mary did you know. It was filmed in the cave that was used in the 1st batman movie. You will also get an introduction to pentatonix's wall of sound. To Really hear the wall Sound listen to their cover of John Lennon's imagine. Of course they have thei PTX Spin on it And the way they Deliver the message is genius. You would thoroughly enjoy (and WE would enjoy watching you react to) POPSPRING 2016, a wonderfully produced (MTV) concert that is only 15 minutes long.. all are ORIGINALS except the Michael Jackson medley.
There is a bit of a Trifecta of acapella groups with PTX, Home Free and Voice Play. All are Amazingly talented in what they do. Home Free has stuck "mostly" to the country genre but is very capable of doing pretty much anything. VoicePlay again can do pretty much anything and do it with a ton of character. PTX, you are getting to know through your number of reactions already. As you will see they are very capable of upgrading pretty much anything and doing outstanding originals. Voctave is another group that is very much worth a listen. Thank you for the reactions, I have been enjoying them a lot. take care.

I believe PTX chose this to cover because Ariana Grande is extremely skillful and mindful of today's content/tastes, and they have the ability to work their strengths into a piece for mutual fans..

There are several things that strike me about this cover:
1) I had never seen the Ariana Grande music video until after I'd watched this cover for the first time. I'd have to say that this is another PTX upgrade. While both artists are lip-synching to a studio recording, PTX just LOOKS more like they're singing it live. AG looks like she's lip-synching - things aren't quite on the mark, and it just looks to me like she's just mouthing the words, no effort or breathing involved. I know that when PTX lip-synchs, they usually sing the song again, so that their lips, mouths, throats, breaths, etc. are actually doing what they were doing during the recording. AG just looks like she's mouthing the words.
2) Notice that Kevin is both doing the whisper "one less problem without ya" AND beatboxing at the same time. Now THAT takes some skill!
3) You can't get out of this song without mentioning Scott's insane falsetto. Those high notes during the chorus, that everyone assumes are Mitch - nope, that's Scott. You can actually see a couple of shots where while it is happening, Mitch is just "ahhhing" the harmony, and Scott is really putting in the effort to get those high notes out. Amazing range on that man!
4) And, of course, Mitch's rap. You had some initial comments about wondering if Mitch was lip-synching Iggy's rap. Just before Mitch starts the rap, there's a closeup of Kirstin's lips saying, "Tell 'em, Mitch!" He duplicates Iggy's rap almost perfectly, although I actually prefer Mitch's - he doesn't seem to be trying as hard for the sassy inflection, it just seems to come naturally to him. When the second part of the rap starts, Iggy starts it off with "Iggy, Iggy", which Mitch changed (of course!) to "Mitchy, Mitchy".
For a couple of other PTX songs with rap in them, check out their covers of Macklemore's Can't Hold Us and Thrift Shop.
