My mum did a good job of making my siblings and i develop a rich vocab. She made us read books and newspaper articles, pick out new words, learn the meaning, and use it in making sentences. I'm so used to it that i unconsciously do it till today. Can't have a phone without a merriam-webster dictionary installed😂😂😂. Bless her heart

With all the modern technology on our phones, you don't need a special dictionary; e.g, every new word l meet daily, I Google it up and then u learn it's pronunciation, from there if u wish so!

Tip 1- Read wide, articles, blog posts, books, you find a strange word, take note of it and find out what it means and how can it be used in a sentence. Consume media with intent.
Tip 2- look out for synonyms to those words, you can be happy, elated, or anger, livid, exasperated.
I'm glad you found this helpful.
    It's my pleasure to share.
Tip 3 - Idioms - figurative expressions that add color to your speech, don't take on much work (don't bite more than you can chew), punctuation, paragraph etc you can learn this when you read
Have a dictionary and be conscious and aware of these things.

whenever you read, always write down something you learn or circle something in the book. This will improve your retentive and retrieval memory. people remember 10% of what they hear - - 20% of what they read - - 80% of what they see. The more you write, the more you see and the more you remember. Also, don't be intimidated to read the same book again and again and again. Always choose motivational books as well

Recently, while reading, I came across the word "teetotaler" - used to refer to one who totally abstains from alcohol.
It could be used in a sentence like this: "Andrew had a reputation as a disciplined, no-nonsense, non-smoking and nonphilandering teetotaler."
I'm elated to add this to my word bank💃.

It is very true in my personal life.
I have struggled with articulating what I want for a long time that I almost learned the hard way that it is important and even healthy that I say loud and clear what I have in my mind.
I enjoy writing and it is one way I use to communicate and feel comfortable because my thoughts flow quickly and much more easily. But I am a mom, I will not write to my children to discipline them; and with my husband when I don't speak it leads to frustration.

😄Yes... Funny enough I learned this word a long time ago from a nickelodeon series 'Henry Danger'. That's where I learned the word 'serendipitous' which means 'occurring or discovered by chance in a happy or beneficial way.'

Wow!.... I've just been swept off my feet. This is a channel to be glued unto instead of wasting ones idle time on things less productive or profitable. Feeling sad that I'm just seeing this channel for the first time: actually stumbled unto this while searching for video clips on how to increase reading speed.
Frankly, I learnt a lot within few minutes that I spent here especially the pronunciation of STIPEND. I couldn't help but jump off my bed with excitement. Your channel is quite educative and I wish more youths, especially our undergraduates, can access this. Before I got to the end of this first episode, I've started sharing the link with my wife and others. It's quite a channel - a unique one at that.
    Gosh! Where have i been?

Vocab building and mastery can truly make one become a commander-in-chief of English Language. It adds spices to our statements. It enables us to talk elegantly like a pro in an eloquent and not in a grandiloquent, pompous or bombastic manner. Don't ask me for the meaning because I don't even know... LOL 😂😂

Pronouncing words properly is something I’ve been taking seriously lately. It’s quite shocking the number of words I figured I’d been pronouncing wrongly. I pay more attention to the movies I watch now and before I use a word, I go to confirm the correct pronunciation and meaning. So much unlearning and relearning to do. 😓
I found this interesting. Thanks for sharing.🤗 Going to follow Derin now.
Here are new words I learnt recently from movies:
    1. Acquiesce
    2. Insatiable
    3. Unscathed.
It is very important to confirm their pronunciations. They’re not as they appear 😂😂

Thank you so much for this video. Some months back a friend of mine jokingly told me that the English language doesn't fit me ( meaning I don't speak English fluently ) it struck me bcs it was so true. That was the beginning of my intentional resort to improving the way I speak. Another challenge is that am a mild stammerer, I don't also have a rich vocabulary but am currently working on it.

I need to add this though.
Listening to you guys helped me realize something that for a long time I was wondering.
English is not my first language.
    I am learning it.
I was born in DR Congo, and at school we spoke French (up until today); I have always loved words.
From primary school through finishing high school my favorite classes were dictation, spelling, vocabulary, conjugation, reading, grammar, and even today years later I love words.
However, when it was time to pick a major at university, I picked a topic related to finance because it hadn't clicked in my mind that words mattered.
That I could make something with the fact that I was good at spelling, dictation or vocabulary and earn a living.
I wondered if people in the real world cared if someone could spell right or wrong.
I almost that being good with words was useless. And the truth is after I graduate from university, I almost lost my interest with words.
But thanks to you guys, I can see how powerful words can be and what they can do for you when you know how to use them.
If I could go back to the past, I would pick a different major, but that is impossible. What is possible, however, is I can get back to loving words again.
    I know better now.
You have given me back the motivation to improve and to do something with this skill I have.
I consider that I am pretty good with words, but I also know I have a lot to learn and practice.
As a full time, stay-at-home mom, I have sometime a lot of free time, so I decided to write a Christian-based blog.
It is 8 days old so far.
I love writing and this is my way to practice and expand my vocabulary.
Your video really cheered me up.
To finish, maybe I didn't use appropriate words somewhere there, just know I am an English learner.
    Bye

This made me a little emotional… thanks so much for sharing.
I am super glad you are not giving up on your love for words. You really don’t have to sit in the four walls of a school to be a master at it. You can be a self taught words master and impact lives with your knowledge from anywhere in the world.
Just take advantage of the internet and gain & create as much knowledge as value as you can.
      I am rooting for you!❤️❤️❤️
