  • Welcome to ZDNet’s DIY-IT project lab, where I’m testing resin 3D printers for your entertainment and edification. Today, we’ll be looking at the Anycubic family of washing and curing stations.
Resin 3D printing, known as SLA or stereolithography, is a substantially messier process than the fused deposition modeling process that fuses layers of filament on top of each other. The resin itself is toxic, as are often the cleaning chemicals. Worse, IPA (isopropyl alcohol) has been in relatively short supply due to the pandemic.
When I last looked at the logistics of resin cleanup, we were still using ultrasonic cleaners (definitely NOT advisable with the flammable IPA) and pickle jars to clean the finished parts. Since then, two innovations have made the process no less messy or toxic, but definitely less difficult: water-soluble resins and washing and curing stations.
The curing stations eliminate a lot of the hassle involved in cleaning prints. They provide both a washing action and a UV light source for curing prints after they've been washed.
To learn which is better for you (or if one is better than the other), watch the video!

Thanks, was thinking I would just buy stuff to process to save a buck but I'll look out for a good deal around 150. Going with the photon 4k :)

Any thoughts on the the Anycubic Wash & Cure 2? vs the original Wash & Cure? The 2 looks like it has better UV exposure but the the original is about half the price. I'm in Japan and the 2 costs about 160$ US and the Orig. Wash & Cure costs 90$. I don't need the really huge size of the plus.

There are some minor feature benefits in the newer model (like the mirror base), but the original works just fine as well. Up to you and whether those minor fixes are worth almost half again as much.

Thanks but I’m having an issue with my printer is the same one as you have but the print is sticking to the bottom of the plate of where the Resin set if there be something wrong with my machine or am I doing something wrong in the settings when I made a prototype that came out perfect of them then I tried something new and it’s been a flop ever since can you give me some suggestions please.

Play with exposure time. More exposure makes it hang on tighter. Less reduces it. But more exposure can also make prints more brittle, so you don't just want to crank it up.
