I disliked making videos for a period of time because I was making content that gets "views" and not for fun. It worked but I just couldn't get myself to make videos anymore. Hearing you say that you need to have fun for it to last long truly was a game changer for me. Using the example of a committed relationship also made me understand RUclips so much better because it doesn't mean having fun all the time, there are going to be occasional arguments, fights, sadness, anger, all these negative feelings along the way but if I truly "love" making videos, nothing could break us apart and eventually, I believe it'll all work out. Thank you for sharing this video, Ali! Truly appreciate it!
Thanks so much for this video, Ali! This is your best video in recent months (in my opinion 😉). I started my channel in May 2023 after discovering your channel - your insight that "no one cares about RUclips channel" was what gave me the courage to put myself out there and 1.5 years and 80+ videos later, although I'm only on 614 subs, I'm still so glad that I took that leap and have found something I really enjoy doing despite not making a penny from it yet so far. Great stuff Ali, you're such an inspiration to aspiring RUclipsrs out there!!! I hope you and Izzy are enjoying your new life in Hong Kong as newlyweds - wishing you two all the best 💖
Thanks once again Ali! I started this year, after overthinking too much. Even my mentor, Joe Navarro, said I reeeeeeally needed to start making videos. But I wasn't up for it. Not good enough, I hate the camera, ADHD, so remembering texts will be like struggling through my TEDx talk, why should I do that horror every week? And then I remembered what Joe said: "Just teach An!" Ohw yes, I am a teacher and interviewer, duh! I am starting to find it fun! Looking forward to how far we can get this! Thank you or helping me start!
Just love the ambiance and the quality of your content! Your honest advice on starting a RUclips channel is so pure and educational. I am so impressed! I have watched over 50 of your videos. I am an entrepreneur in the food industry. I always wanted to teach people how to cook in simple form. I am tempting to take the plunge of the 7 video challenge. It’s the fear of being on camera and the technical editing part that is holding me back😢😢😢
Solid content as always Ali! I started my channel 4 years ago and with consistency and learning from my mistakes I have been able to grow it! Video's like these always help put things in perspective and are always insghtful.
Hi Ali! Just wanted to come on here to say a few things particularly with regards to your anxiety around this video being more long form. 1. I really enjoy your long form videos as a member of your audience. I feel like I'm getting much more value for my time, more in- depth knowledge, a more holistic perspective in general that this sort of long- form allows which allows you to explore nuance and bring in a wide range of examples. 2. The way your videos are edited is really lovely, and not instantly overwhelming on the senses, which is why your long form works even more, because not only am I getting valuable content, I'm also getting to take a longer break from excessive stimulation. Plus it's better for our attention spans to have this sort of content available as a remedy or a way out. 3. While I understand the need for engagement, I really do not want you to stop making such videos because they really do help more than you realise. Incorporate them in a little more because I would like to see more of them!
I've spent so much time himmming and hawing over creating videos. Fear, imposter syndrome, etc. For YEARS. Every day i think where'd I'd be if I had just made my first video when i ORIGINALLY thought to do it over 10 years ago. Why do we sabotage ourselves through fear & overthinking when it is so easy once we push through those self-limiting doubts...not so much to push through them, but once we do we realize how much we held ourselves back.
Thanks for this, Ali. For me, therapeutic sewing, and learning something new and challenging has been such a passion of mine. A passion project. I just surveyed my channel and in fact I have 11 videos! Three would be considered shorts and are less than a minute. I've already made a very close connection with another sewist who also has a professional "day job" - Watching this video further validates my path. Much appreciated!
I learned a lot after started my RUclips channel as how to speak in front of the cameras, voice tone, editing etc; maybe I will be public a speaker in the future! I already have my business but started RUclips to grow my business!
I’ve learned so much from your videos! Your tips and advice have been incredibly helpful, and they’ve even inspired me to explore my own creative journey in the world of RUclips. Highly recommend anyone who’s passionate about healthy cooking to keep learning and trying new things. This community is amazing!”
I love your videos about this subject. You and Izzy are the reason as to why I finally gathered enough courage to start my own channel. 3 videos posted so far and motivated to keep going :) thank you for having our backs 💗🧜♀️
Hey man, just wanted to say thanks for these videos. Channel has just started to really fly and you inspired me to get back into it after a massive hiatus.
I am on the way brother. as of today I made 43 videos in last 5 months. and I can feel the improvement myself. with that I can explain that dopamine rush in my body after I am done with edit part and sit relax and watch what I just made. this make me so much happy and I hope so people might get some value out of my videos.
Thank you for being honest. I love the question "would you still do RUclips if you never made money from it". I definitely would because I enjoy making content and inspiring others as a mom of 2 who is in college.
Thank you Ali for clarifying that money aspect of RUclips. Bitter American Gen Xers learned you can "make money off RUclips" from Adsense not realizing that that is probably less than 1% of the monetized RUclips population that can ACTUALLY SUCCESSFULLY live off of adsense alone 😂.
I’m an accountant and I totally agree. 😂😂 I’m making videos because I’ve had this calling to inspire others to go for their goals and dreams. It’s opened up this plethora of ideas and passion! Thank you for this logical breakdown. 🎉👍
To everyone who is reading this and hasn’t been monetized, I hope you become successful with your channel. Trust the process and never give up! We’re get there!
This video is a game-changer! So much helpful information packed into one clip. I personally don't like promoting anything in comments, but I simply have to share with you a book called The Gilded Nexus of Prosperity, that book changed my approach to money, the methods in that book are impressive
Thanks Ali but still have a question : I have been watching intensively your videos and you keep saying don’t make RUclips as a source of income because it takes years to build it as business and sometimes you said as a side hustle like you and then as a main business later and source of living. I’m bit confused maybe didn’t understand good the principle. Don’t go for RUclips as a source of income rather approach it as a way to fulfill your self …. That’s I get it . Of course you should put your expertise and enjoy sharing information like you in educational channels but you too you built it to your job. So I didn’t get the point about having RUclips as a side hustle to an part time job in my case and then when it works really quit and fully focus on it as a business??! Maybe you were also stating that approaching RUclips like a business idea take risks and there are no Garantie if it would work. Is that correct or please explain me or any of the viewers who got his explanation right. Thanks in advance.
Start of the content creation era (2025): - Substack: 17 subscribers - RUclips: 9 subscribers - Bluesky: 30 followers (and yes, maybe a few bots 👀) It ain’t much but it is honest work. You gotta start somewhere
Thank you SO much for the ridiculous amount of value you provide - it’s insane. Thank you. Is there anyway you’d do a video on how to make money & get clients / leads when you’re starting out - since you’ve said here it’s not youtube…. So assuming this applies to all social media? Would love your expertise on this. Thanks so much
It seems like being a doctor was more a step in the way if you becoming a entrepreneur/RUclipsr. Did you always want to be a doctor or was this something you just décided would be good to do because of its value and its a safe fall-back? Like did you think "Im a doctor" or does being a entrepreneur more what you identify with or have always identified with?
Hello Ali! Quick question that popped into my mind after the first 4 minutes or so. You state that if your main motivation is to make money, then you should probably have some type of product to sell first as this is the business first approach. My question is, does it not make more sense that you start your channel first and let it grow prior to actually making a product? My first video was a short about a morning in my life... and the one comment I got was "What the hell is this??" I learned early how to get past that 'punch in the stomach' feeling. Happy I'm now at video 88, and getting lovely comments.
With the money question, it depends. If no one will watch my videos, then no. I can't put in all that time and effort only for no one to watch my videos. But, if I can get a strong following and not make money, then I'd defiantly be in. I just need a camera because my phone is 2mp and laptop doesn't have a camera. Once I get all that sorted I will post regularly.
I really enjoyed your video, it’s perfect for a new RUclipsr looking to share their passion. I was wondering if you could also make a video explaining whether RUclips paid promotion could benefit a new RUclipsr and how it works. A lot of bigger RUclipsrs advise against using paid promotion, claiming it could hurt the channel, yet many of them still use it. Could you please shed some light on this topic? I truly believe your channel is trustworthy, and your insights would be incredibly valuable to those of us starting out. Thank you so much!
Hey Ali! /wave I feel like your latest videos are tailor-made towards me. Debasing yourself in public is such a funny way to describe starting a RUclips channel but after going through the process I kinda get it 😂
I've read "221 views" and said right away: "It can't be the real Ali Abdaal.
Then I saw "Published 1 Minute ago."
Thank you so much, Ali. I didnt know I needed to hear the encouragement of the joy. My heart feels extremely full. You are a treasure.

You state that if your main motivation is to make money, then you should probably have some type of product to sell first as this is the business first approach. My question is, does it not make more sense that you start your channel first and let it grow prior to actually making a product? Profession and hobbies are different!
Thanks Ali!
Thanks for this🎉

Hi, is there a deadline to enroll into the 7 videos challenge?
Hey Ali! /wave
I feel like your latest videos are tailor-made towards me. Anyways, I am someone that knows a lot but, when it comes to showcasing and using all the knowledge I have for myself, I end up giving up on the idea before even trying it out or quit due to self doubt. That's living with ADHD for ya.. Anyways, it's almost judgement day and, now, I don't really have a choice. I need to do this. I want to do this. For myself.
Anyways, I wanted to put this comment here for two reasons. #1 - for accountability - I will spend the next 17 days trying to figure myself out and, if possible, create my first video and post it on my birthday. #2 - I would like to know what software you use to film the drawing sequences and whether there's a free alternative for windows. I have an XP Pen drawing tablet and would like to write on-screen instead of yapping to explain a concept..
See you in 17 days!
What is the tool you use to write and share on the sreen.
