      I'll post a new video to the channel to respond in more depth.
      I had to fix the control panel on it also after what seems like a lightning strike cooked a couple parts a bit. It could of just been heat wear overtime also. You probably have a keypad issue but only a partial failure which is why you're still getting response from some buttons but not the Start or maybe others.

    • @mrficks1838
      @mrficks1838  4 года назад +1

      Actually I'm nearly certain it's your keypad that just went out on certain buttons. You'll still probably get something out of the new video too. I should have it posted in a few hours.

    • @mrficks1838

      Try some penetrating fluid in the tracks and lightly tap the tracks with something that won't damage the paint. You can use a rubber mallet too but thumb pressure should be enough to pry it up. It looks so easy because it wasn't fully in when I re-did it for demonstration.

    • @y2kroxy

      Just finished working on my oven - similar but has convection bake also. The tracks on both sides slide into the panel. There is a little screw near the bottom of the track. I removed it and removed both tracks. When you remove the tracks, you will find 2 little screws holding the control panel. Once you remove them, the control panel will slide out. I dont know why this is different but that is the way mine comes off. By the way, I only cleaned the keypad ribbon cable with electrical contact cleaner and the keypad and oven is working again.

      There are 2 screws that attach the cover to keep it from moving: 1 on each top/side/outside ... very small Phillips that must be removed before you can pop the panel up.

      @richardcline1337 4 года назад +1

      @@frankmallory6584, this step is overlooked in the video and I damaged mine trying to get it out. The trim rails down the sides are hiding these screws. There are also two screws holding the side trim pieces on that need to be taken out.

    The whirlpool parts are discontinued for my oven. I found a company online that manufactures the panel and can determine if it is the key pad or control panel. I am considering purchasing the key pad membrane and installing it myself.

    I have what appears to be the same oven and starting a few days ago I can no longer increase the oven temperature on the display, I didn't get any error messages and I can still turn it down from 350 degrees Fahrenheit but I can't increase it. Is that definitely the control board malfunctioning? Or could it be something else possibly?

    • @mrficks1838
      @mrficks1838  4 года назад +2

      Sounds like the keypad behind the up button versus it being a control panel issue. It's an expensive guess to swap it and see but I'll almost positive that's it, can't see how the control panel would only be affecting one button.

      Pull out off the cabinet towards you some and then lift.. If it won't pull off then it is still screwed in somewhere or someone used an adhesive in which case you can pry with a thin flat but hard plastic piece (pry bar).

      It's a communication error so try cleaning where the keypad connects into the circuit board with this: amzn.to/3fCrNYe
      If that doesn't work then yes the keypad needs replacing most likely. (Make sure the place on the circuit board it connects to is not loose feeling: which would need to be soldered.)

    • @mrficks1838
      @mrficks1838  2 года назад

      You have to 'shimmy' them side to side slowly to incrementally release it. I'd try gripping it with your thumb and forefinger and it'll take a fair amount of grip strength at first. If you have something that will act as a plastic pry bar - this might help too. Just be sure not to stress things too much.

    • @mrficks1838
      @mrficks1838  2 года назад

      I find this to be very useful at prying up connectors - amzn.to/3JQTMNQ
      Just be careful to not put angular stress on the base pins because it can damage the solder joints that hold them in place and require re-soldering.

    Thank you for the video. The Key Pad (8300427) for my Whirlpool RBD245PDB12 oven is no longer available. It beeps on its own. The oven is 19 years old. Unless you have another suggestion Mr. Ficks, I'm going to have to replace the entire oven. Any ideas?

    • @mrficks1838
      @mrficks1838  3 года назад

      Hmmm..if it has the same ribbon (and ribbon width) a newer model keypad might work enough to keep it going. The newer keypad might not have full functionality but if you can turn it on and off it might be worth it.
      Most likely you'll have to buy a new oven, sorry. I haven't tried what I'm suggesting but feel if the ribbon matches you have a good chance. You could return it if not.

      @@mrficks1838 Thanks for your feedback. Repair sites recommended me to send the control board because the screen is completely blank. They argue when power is turned on, the screen should display something even with a completely defective keypad.
