  • This is one for both the time crunched golfer or anyone who wants a low maintenance chipping method. Let's be honest, we can't all dedicate the time required to develop a really strong and versatile short game, there are no real short cuts to excellence.
    What we can do though is employ a method that increases our chances of success without having to put nearly as much time in and reduce those really expensive bad shots.
    If this sounds good to you keep watching!

    Just discovered James Ridyard. Don't know about Tour pros, but IMO, he's the best teacher I've ever run across for us "weekend warriors." Have only tried his short-game techniques, but that's where the scoring is, and every technique I've tried so far has been simple, repeatable and effective. Will recommend him to any and all.

    That's a nice simple chipping action for those conditions. ie slow (what I presume) UK greens and nice cushy surrounds. Would like to see what you do with Kikuya grass (that often has grain) over moist sand base and fast greens. Join another club haha...but seriously hope to find some other solutions on your page.

    Thanks James for your videos. I play single length irons, and have followed Bryson DeChambeau's swing for years now. What you are teaching fits my game perfectly!! I have lost at least 5-7 strokes a round by using your toe down methods in chipping, pitching, and bunkers!! LOVE it!! I did have to make a few adjustments to ball position at address, but they still use your teaching. Keep the videos coming! How about fairway bunkers???

    I have just tried this in my garden and it was brilliant - going to my golf club later to practice it with 9,8,7 irons. I’m sure I will approach these shots with much more confidence now. Thanks James.

    Was at my course doing some chipping practice and decided to look through your video's for some tips and this one stood out to me. Watched the first 5 mins then went to try it out and saw immediate positive results. Turned out to be one of my best chipping sessions ever. Thanks James this will really help my game 👍🏾😁

    This looks similar to your easy non-standard sand shot technique - minimal variables. Like your second method, I use different clubs depending on how much green there is between me and the hole - lower loft clubs when there is lots of green and minimal fringe. I try to keep the ball as close to the ground as possible - as simiar to a putt as possible. That way backspin is not a major factor and it is easier to gauge the distance. Congratulations on making golf as easy as possible!

      4 iron. Jk. Actually I hit some nice softies with the 58 yesterday off of grass. The mat seems to really push them down as the contact is so pure and perhaps the contact tends to be lower on the face.
      Can you do a video about uphill lies?

  • @Nick_OSUBuckeye
    @Nick_OSUBuckeye Год назад

    What would you recommend as a thought process for someone who plays off of a lot of grainy bermuda lies that are sometimes even rather bare? I feel like I'm afraid of turf interaction because of this so I blade a lot of my chips.

    • @JamesRidyardGolf
      @JamesRidyardGolf  Год назад

      Yeah this is always a tough one. The grain plays sticky and then when it's bare explodes as you hit it right?
      I wish there was an easy option but there isn't, here's what you have though...
      1 - Learn to pick it off the top, see the tee drill in my recent tips video
      2 - Semi bunker shot, face open, toe down and loads of speed
      3 - Test less lofted clubs opened up/aim left with body. Can create a super steep bounce angle with a short simple swing
      4 - Perfect the ball back/steep attack angle going ball first. Can always open face here too for some height.

    Very helpful. A couple of questions. 1. will this work from the rough? I would put from where you are chipping. 2. How do you transition to the next phase of technique

    • @JamesRidyardGolf
      @JamesRidyardGolf  Год назад

      Yes, works from the rough with a slightly open face. Needs a bit more speed though.
      The next thing to add would be speed/ball flight related. Unfortunately not one answer for all
