snapped the top half in 2 parts, scratched the entire top frame and spilled molten hot lead on the entire pcb could never do this without you! thank you so much!
@@369standrealfine Is there enough space for foam though? I am probably going to upgrade my board with LEDs and lube the MX red switches (quite a lot of spring ping) so I might as well add foam in the process. What are your thoughts?
@@CalvinBacon yeah underneath the pcb there are spaces, need to make some delicate cut to allow the wire but overall there are space and you could certainly add foam
@@CalvinBacon What would you say would eliminate the spring ping the most, lubing the switches or adding foam? I wanted to eliminate the ping without desoldering.
@@dpfutbol I (still) haven't gotten to it yet, but AFAIK only lubing will really fix the issue unfortunately (otherwise I would have already gone through the trouble)
8:00 as a guitar player I would strongly suggest you get yourself some thick guitar picks. If you have a guitar player friend ask them. The cool thing about guitar picks is they are their rigid, they have a slight bevel so you can poke them in there easily and they are of course triangular which makes it easier to target them into the crack. The 1 mm model is great or slightly thinner. Cell phone repair guys use these all the time.
I was able to open the case without scratching it by pressing in two thick credit cards above each tab instead of prying it open with a screwdriver. Your credit cards shouldn't be hard enough to scratch the case since they're both plastic. On the other hand your metal screwdriver is much harder than the plastic, and will happily dig into the plastic as you use force to pry the tabs apart.
Thanks, I think the biggest draw back of this great board is the mediocre switch options. I'm tempted to remove the Cherry switches and add some Box Pinks/Jades or something.
Thank you for the helpful tutorial. I spilled some coffe over it and I was only able to clean the PCB thanks to you. I even managed to open it without scratches. :)
Thanks for video. It's better to use plastic cards for opening keyboard without scratches on plastic, instead of screwdriver. I used 4 cards to open corners, 2 cards on each side, and one sharpened card to insert it into small gap on each side for first time. So it looks like new after opening.
Thanks for this. I will defo attempt it at some stage, it honestly looks more awkward than difficult. Does anyone know where I can find foam for behind the pcb? Thanks
How much room is there in the bottom if you wanted to add foam for sound dampening? I got my k320 with speed silver switches and I've noticed a bell like pinging sound.
So is the pinging coming from the springs? Would that wear in after use and make the ping go away on perhaps MX Browns? Or is it an issue where it requires lubricant? Or like you proposed, would sound dampening resolve it? Did you try it? Did sound dampening resolve the ping? I'm having the same issue 🥴
There were no leds inherently built in my keyboard so i dont see a problem. If you have on yours, then you have to desolder the leds before you can take the switch off
Thanks for this video, saved me some time. It's cool if you don't care, but if you do care, you can use plastic pry tools that come in like ifixit kits or I an automotive panel popper. There's some voids as you mentioned, but for those wanting to foam the whole thing, towards the bottom it gets pretty damn tight. I used more car audio stuff lol, butyl rope to fill in the voids and tesa-tape over everyhing else, works as a decoupler and diffuser, but everybody wants something different.
Thank you for sharing! Yes actually after posting this vid I have gotten so many comments on the tools that you can use to avoid scratching the case. Appreciate all the inputs, as I learn something too XD
Hello I got this keyboard with mx browns a couple months ago and the stab wobble is pretty bad even with pre lubed stabs. I was wondering if there was anyway to band aid the stabs without desoldering. Also I was thinking about getting some dielectric grease to lube the stabs, will I have to wipe off the stuff the company put on? Sorry for a lot of questions haha it’s just the wobble/ ticking sound is driving me crazy. Good vid!
For the spacebar i would recommend to desolder at least the switch at the spacebar position. And since these are plate mount stabs, band aid mod does not do much. I would recommend changing into better plate mount stabs such as genuine cherry or gateron (they release some recently iirc) and lube the crap out of it lol. Best of luck. And in general i don't think you have to wipe off the old lube, as wiping actually does not take it away completely anyways. Only ultra sonic cleaning can unfortunately
@@369standrealfine that's great news, but I will have to take off the PCB to solder the LEDs to it, correct? Also, do you know.if it would support RGB LEDs that I can toggle via software, or would it be limited to a single colour?
@@CalvinBacon just single color led, 2 pin type to be exact. And you can push the led thru the switch to the pcb without taking the plate off if that is your worry. Hope I make sense

Thanks for making this tutorial, I was considering opening it up to put some foam in, but now I've decided I can never do that haha
Ha ha well imo foam is a not a magical item that fixes everything anyways :p

Thank you very much, at the time of making this video that did not cross my mind! Very valuable suggestion, greatly appreciate
Yep definitely use picks and nylon spudgers to open this case

I'll keep that in mind when my parts arrive and I need to rip this bad boy open. Cheers.

Thank you! I wanted to mod this with new switches, got bored of my cherry mx but the keyboard itself is beautiful imo, a good build quality too :)

yes, putting back together is no problem
Are the switches pcb mounted or plate mounted?
mine has plate mount switches
my durgod keyboard wont worm after i plugged the wire in
So does the top plate just snap back in after we are done?
Pretty much yes. Closing is much easier than opening

Just get a guitar pick, or a credit card and slide it around - very easy and clean to open.
I’m guessing you don’t own one
Can u mod leds on this?
Yes! Pcb supports simple 2 pin led
