Oh my gosh, the just..... Crunch of the flooded switch. I just lubed my current main keyboard(Gateron Milky yellows) and did that third switches amount. Not a light amount, but not too much. Just a nice reflective sheen, but no notable whiteness from too much lube being present, and it feels like a dream. I really appreciate this video's results as it tells me I have the exact right amount for my keybaord, but have always wondered what it would be "too" generous. 10/10
The "splick" noise the extreme switch makes is hilarious and horrifying. I can't imagine the amount of lubricant it would take to do that to a 62 key board.
Father: Son, how much did you spend on building your own keyboard? Son: It costed right around 500 USD. Father: WTF HOW IS IT SO EXPENSIVE Son: I spent 80% of the budget on lubrication
It really depends on the type of switches you have too. When I over lube linears that has more than 62g of actuation force, it feels very unresponsive and uncomfortable to type on. With linears less than 62g of actuation force, I actually like to over lube them, since they don't feel that sluggish. That being said it all depends on how fast you can type as well. I can type anywhere between 130wpm to 150wpm so unresponsive keypresses will bother me a lot. Someone who types slower, like 90wpm, won't be as bothered because the switches will return quickly enough anyhow.
Got to say that I'm on the over lubed team for that one too , i over lubed my corsair k65 mini with a syringe and after putting a bit of neoprene foam and doing the tape mod it sounds so amazing now !
I overlubed my non hot swappable keyboard a few days ago and it became very hard to type on. I had to spend close to 4 hours removing excessive lube from the switches, so whatever you do I can recommend to add less rather than more for your first time.
I overlubed, but not filling the whole thing, I clog the hole in the middle where the key "needle" thing goes down to keep it stabilized. It's crispy responsive but it's way thockier.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO. I'm working on building my first custom keyboard and I was always confused by how much was "too much." This finally answered that question hhaha
If you didn't lube the pole, #4 would likely have not been squishy like that and been perfectly responsive. Same with #5, I don't think it would have been that dramatic were the pole not clogged up to dampen stroke haha. I've always done it between 3 and 4 (essentially paint the rail, hit the spring seats, and lightly run the brush down one side of the spring to form tiny blobs that will dampen ping - using a long-lasting di-electric grease) and after about five years so far haven't had issues with drying out like the boutique greases seem to do when applied so thin. I've got a few before-after's that I've filmed to showcase just how it transforms just about any board, but the only one I ever put up was for a NPKC 60% where I installed OG Zealios. It went from clack-town to seriously quiet, I couldn't believe how well it worked; and any keyboard I mod like this only ever gets smoother as it's used more. ruclips.net/video/2_W8Abs_Gc0/видео.html
Watching this it almost seems like optimal method would be going with extreme overlube and then use brush to remove what you can. You could basically dip everything into the lube and do fast brush. I think that would be so much faster too.
i overlubed my Tangerines kinda in-between #3 and #4 and it sounds insanely good. AND i don't hear any lube sound as well as i don't lose any response. 10/10 would recommend
my mom in the background just hearing the word lube over and over "solid lube" "do i have to lube the stem" "a pool of lube" "it will come gushing out" 💀💀💀💀
The 5 is just over the top ridiculous. I'm between 3-4, I don't feel that's "over lubed". It's not like there is a standard for it anyways, sure the professional nerds say to just put a tiny bit on, but I think it's a preference just like the board or the switches you chose. Just built a Q1 pro with Gateron Black Ink V2 and I like them to be quiet and very smooth and don't mind the slight decrease in responsiveness, I even do o-rings and weighted caps to really get that thick and heavy feeling.
Honestly I'm liking somewhere between the medium and the heavy lubed switch. I typically like to see streaks of the whiteness on the stems and the bottom housing. It may mask more of the switches characteristics but on super clacky switches I prefer muting them more.
While lubed switches are nice, I went without lube on my board and fell in love with the sound and feel. I'm using: Keychron K6 Pro with coiled aviator cable, Cherry MX Black Hyperglide and GMK Shanshui Old Path keycaps. Good production in the video bro, keep it up. 👍
Thanks for the sub! And yeah, this is like the second time lately that the algorithm picks up my video and makes it rocket for a little bit, and then dumps it. Pretty weird...
Funny. I always do as much as the light lube switch, but I think I prefer the medium lubed switch most. So next time, I'm going to try just a tiny bit more lube.
Back in the day i killed two razer blackwidows with cherry mx blue switches by spilling monster on them. I quickly then taught myself how to flush the switches and the keyboard to completely clean it. One day it was all sticky and stuck keys and basically garbage. A day later everything had been flushed out by air tool oil and literally feeling brand new. IMO there is no such thing as too much lube, you can soak those fuckers and eventually it will work its way through the switches, clean them, and then come off/dry up. Then you just lube em normally after theyre all good.
Oh by the way, if you ever have the misfortune of trying this. Blast the heck out of that sucker with compressed air to get the excess oil/lube out faster and soak it up with some paper towels. Air tool oil will literally clean the switches on its way out.
I just lub the guiding channel of the base part. it works pretty fine....only the clicking of my blue cherry switches disappeared, which turned them in to red ones... :D. Easy rule for lubing...start with very less,...add more as required
My head was in the wrong place after you filled the last one full of lube. I thought you said, "testes and see nut" instead of "test these and see not"
He was right about the lynx being smooth for being dry, but i have lynxes, and the stock spring ping. its terrible. its worse than the outemu switches in the redragon k552 i got for my dad.
When I first tried to lube a keyboard I ended up doing a lot of keys like the 2nd to last one. Overlubing actually makes switches somewhat clicky sounding which is probably from the stickiness of the lube acting on certain parts instead of benefiting from the greasiness of the lube. Like a bell curve switches are loudest when either under or overlubed.
Overlube (not extreme) I noticed that after a week or so, it will fix the response time and turn smooth and fast as normal, since the lube will slowly find it's way to not be on the way.

Do you have to open and clean the lube and replace it every so often or what? I was just trying to find a keyboard to replace mine that keeps double typing and now I've fallen into a whole rabbit hole I didn't know existed.
